Pro tip for new applicants: Buy the combined book and do all the firearm types in 1 day. I’d say for those looking to get firearms, go for all 4! It’s much easier. In December I did the Semi Auto-Handgun - No issues took me less than a month to get sorted. Then applied for my competency. This past Friday I wrote the Semi Auto Rifle - was sorted writhing a week. Now I have the stress of applying under section 16 😔. How does one go about that? Do I still need to get my wife and 2 friends to go with me? And wait for another 4 months? Do I join a sports shooting club now or after? Please enlighten me 🙆🏽♂️
Yo dude, not at all. Just chat to the guys at Gunlicence.co.za they will sort you out much quicker than that and you will not have to go through all that labor.
If I was arrested for a gas gun but was cleared of the charges because I didn't act maliciously would I still be able to do the competency test and lic for a firearm?
Yes you'll need to get dedicated sport shooting status through an accredited sport shooting organization first before you can apply as it's a requirement to apply for a S16 license. You'll also need to maintain that status every year by completing the required number of criteria/events the organization requires. But as Ryan said, chat to the guys at Gunlicense. They'll furnish you with all the info and application documentation you need as well as guide you through what you need to get in place before you can apply for a S16 license.
The title is a biiit clickbaity, the way it says south Africa's new gun owners test makes it sound like there's a new competency test, not a competency test for new gun owners.
@@greymanoperations Explaining South Africas competency test for new gun owners ? or explaining the test for new gun owners ? Honestly I legit only clicked on it because I thought there was an amendment to the competency test the way its worded.
Proficiency test. But as a thought, maybe just realize the wording or the video wasn't for you. You were a little confused by a title, sometimes things go like that, life isn't perfect. The video has a 99.2% like rating, I think it's good the way it is. Have a good one.
I wasnt confused trust me - I asked ChatGPT - "Explaining South Africa's New Gun Owners Test" what would you think this title means ? chatGPT response - The title "Explaining South Africa's New Gun Owners Test" likely refers to a detailed discussion or breakdown of a recently introduced test or evaluation process for individuals in South Africa who want to own firearms. Here's a breakdown of what the title suggests: "Explaining": The content is likely informative, aiming to clarify or demystify the test's purpose, structure, and requirements for readers. "South Africa's": Indicates the geographic context, implying that the test is specific to South African laws, regulations, or societal considerations. "New": Suggests that the test is a recent development, either a brand-new implementation or a significant update to an existing process. "Gun Owners Test": Refers to an examination, assessment, or qualification process required for individuals who want to own firearms. This could involve theoretical knowledge (e.g., laws and safety rules) or practical skills (e.g., handling and shooting firearms). Possible Interpretation: The title implies that there has been a change in firearm regulations in South Africa, introducing a test that prospective gun owners must pass. The content is expected to provide insights into why the test was introduced, what it involves, and its implications for current or future gun owners. It might also delve into broader topics, such as the context of gun ownership laws in South Africa, public safety concerns, or political debates surrounding the regulation of firearms. So if even a basic language model like chatGPT is picking it up its not me bruv :)
Very disappointed with CFR, did the combination book which means I am able to own every type of firearm. I got my competency approved about a week ago and when I looked at my certificate it only listed handgun even though I ticked all the relevant boxes. Extremely disappointed in CFR. I Waited almost a year for my competency alone.
@ talked to my DFO and he said that they forgot to add the others. All due to CFR’s incompetence. But it’s fine for now, bought a pistol a while ago so I’ll just have to do a further competency when I decide to buy a rifle.

Good morning, just a quick question as i can't get an answer from police or a lawyer, can you use hollow nose rounds in a self defence situation in South Africa and what are the legal implications if you are involved in a fatal shooting of an attacker?
You 100% can use hollow point rounds and there are 0 legal implications. A good rule of thumb is; any round you can buy at a reputable gun store is legal in South Africa.
Hollow points have two advantages. Stopping power and less chance of bullet travel if the bullet makes its way through the subject. FMJ might travel through the subject, making it a stray bullet. They are all legal to use in self-defense, though.
They are legal, they sort of advise you in the handgun book to use them to prevent overpenetration, since you're responsible for where the bullets end.
Hello, I recently started watching your channel as I am interested in continuing Gun Ownership in South Africa. I am a competitive shooter living in Canada and I am retiring to Somerset West. My wife has already moved back home and I hope to join her soon. Unfortunately I have had to liquidate my firearm collection as exporting them is a horrendous process. I assume will need my Permanent Resident status before I can start the process of having a Gun License in South Africa?
Did you post this or a similar story on Reddit recently? I saw a post very similar to this a little while ago. Sucks that the process is so complicated if you want to bring over your firearms
@@E5partano27 I did not post on Reddit, but I may have brought up the same topic on another channel. And yes it really sucks, I had almost $70K USD in firearms when I was actively competing. I managed to liquidate most of my Firearms, except for some AR15 type rifles the Canadian Government switched from Restricted to Prohibited.
@@guidetrack9151 that's horrible. Did you then need to forfeit the AR15s to the state? I remember reading about that when they introduced the new law. I'm sure it pissed quite a few people off over there
@@E5partano27 You have the choice of turning in for destruction, pay to have it rendered in operable or wait until Hell Freezes over for the Government to give you a partial payment towards turning it over. The legal test is super easy (multiple choice questions). it's mostly common knowledge, in my opinion. Took me 15 min 100% I am writing the last two (handgun and self loading refile) on the same day at the end of this month.
Hi @KaraAuba, focus on all the questions in the open book. You will definitely get 25 questions out of the 55 questions. They will try to trick you, e.g, in the open book, they ask you to define something, but in the closed book, they ask you if its true or false.
