29:20 To answer your question..... White Walkers first appeared thousands of years ago and were supposedly defeated by the joint forces of the Children of the Forest and the Night's Watch. They came during something called the Long Night, a long and fierce winter that brought darkness to all of Westeros. The Wall was eventually built to keep them out, and it is said that the structure is protected with ancient spells and sorcery that prevent anything of a magical nature from crossing, i.e. the White Walkers. Targaryens and their dragons didn't arrive in Westeros until 300 years ago (by the time of GoT). Prior to that, the dragonlords of the Valyrian Freehold had no interest in Westeros. By the time of their arrival, the White Walkers had not been seen for thousands of years and were regarded as nothing more than fairy tales to frighten children. In 58 AC (less than a hundred years before HotD, about 240 years before GoT), Queen Alysanne Targaryen took her dragon Silverwing on a royal progress to the North. While waiting for her husband, King Jaehaerys I Targaryen, to join her, she got impatient and made a visit to the Wall. She attempted to fly Silverwing north beyond the Wall on three occasions, but the dragon refused her orders (something Alysanne never had difficulty with before), greatly troubling the Targaryen. It was almost like the magical creature couldn't cross the magical barrier...... or just that a dragon (which is known as "fire made flesh") just didn't like the cold. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Rather than the Nights Watch, I thought it was the "heroes" from the Age of Heroes: Bran the Builder, Lann the Clever, Garth Greenhand, Symeon Star Eyes, etc.??? Then the NW was formed afterwards...???
@@jcompton8507 no it was the last hero’s companions who defeated the white walkers (maybe that’s why ur thinking of the word hero) who are different from those “founding lords” you listed. And many of those heroes seemed to be green mages of some sort, going by their names.
Winter is coming is the word of House Stark - Its a statement that hard times are coming it is literally a play on words for the Long harsh winters in the north and also the Coming (return) of the white walkers and the long night. They bring the cold and death. Bran the builder ( guy who built the wall winterfel and many castles in Westeros thousands and thousands of years ago ) started house stark as the first line of defense from the white walkers. This is to remind them that the white walkers are coming.
Seasons in Westeros work differently. As you saw, seasons of winter and summer can last years at a time. While is IS summer, Winterfell always has 'summer snow'. They grow their food in hothouse as the castle is built on hot springs. The reason this coming winter is dreaded is because they've had a particularly long summer which means a longer winter. Stark works mean literally winter is coming ie of course winter will come but also serves as an ominous warning...the Starks have a special relationship with 'winter', the Wall and the Nights Watch...all will be revealed!
I like the idea that during the last long night the white walkers were stopped in some sort of battle around the location of winterfell. Hence that is where winter “fell” as in “was defeated,” as in “they fell in battle”

That’s why they call Jamie the Kingslayer. Catelyn was supposed to marry Ned’s older brother but when he was killed by King Aerys, she ended up somehow marrying Ned. What keeps white walkers north of the wall is the difference between daylight and darkness more than it has to do with temperature. Remember they said that with winter comes darkness There is no sun during their winter so if their winter is 10 years they're in the dark for 10 years. When the nurse told Bran he was a sweet summer child that indicated that it had been summer for at least as long as Brandon had been alive. Of course I never quite understood whether the opposite of that is true. Is it always daylight in the summer never dark? It would be like living in parts of Alaska or other places where it's never really dark at some times of the year. I don't really remember seeing night time in the South so I'll have to watch more carefully as I'm watching it again with you guys.
Hmmmm...I don't think it has to do with Light and Darkness in the way you're explaining it. Since George admits he didn't really understand genetics with enough depth when he wrote some of the stuff coming up here in S1, there is probably as much of a chance that he doesn't understand how and why we have seasons. (Sorry George! Haha!) From what we've gleaned in the books, the WW had been "dormant" north of the Wall for thousands of years. So many, many dark and cold winters had gone by. So before GoT starts, something "woke them up." Lots and lots and lots of discussions over the decades for just what that may be... And the reason we didn't find out in GoT is because HBO had their Long Night show in the pipeline (Was it called Blood Moon?) So disappointing that it was cancelled. I would have rather had a show about the Age of Heroes than HotD - so much more interesting!
It is impossible to burn/melt the North. It is an immense territory. Furthermore, during the events of The House of the Dragon, the southerners had no idea what lived north of the wall. Winters arrived without anything strange happening.
For the record, the white walkers weren’t around when Dragons were in Westeros. White walkers apparently came thousands of here’s ago. Aegon came over and conquered Westeros roughly 500 years before game of thrones. And when the white walkers fought men in Westeros, Valyria was still around (the place that the dragons, Targaryen’s and Valaryions are from) and that’s in the eastern continent that didn’t get the white walkers. White walkers only came in Westeros
Actually, Aegon had only conquered Westeros 300 years before GoT. And the first Long Night was 8000 years before GoT. I'm pretty sure Valyria came thousands of years afterwards (perhaps 5000 years before GoT?), since it fell around 400 years before GoT.
Will you guys be reacting to the “history and lore” of Game Of Thrones as well at some point? Also I’m loving your reactions, can’t wait for episode 4!
@StudioGek Hey boys just a heads up I’ve seen quite a bit of spoilers in the comments so I would avoid the Game of Thrones comments or maybe have Jack read them first to make sure they aren’t any big spoilers. For some reason people cant help themselves and seemingly get off on spoiling this show. Either that or they just can’t wrap their heads around the fact that people who haven’t seen the show won’t have all the same knowledge as them who have already seen the entire series. I have seen other reaction channels get spoiled of major character deaths or at least given a heads up that something major is going to happen on a particular episode. And I think that completely ruins the experience of watching the show for the first time blind. So maybe have someone you can trust who is knowledgeable about the entire series moderate the comments of the GOT reactions going forward. Because this show has some of the craziest twists and turns that you just don’t see coming at all I feel it is more important to shield yourselves from potentially being spoiled more so than some other shows.
The budget for seasons 1-5 of Game of Thrones was about $6,000,000 per episode. The budget jumped to $10 million per episode for seasons 6 and 7 and up to $15 million dollars per episode for season 8. The budget for the first season of House of the Dragons was $20,000,000 per episode. You should definitely do Lord of the Rings reaction for whoever hasn't seen it.
This is a parallel world or dimension where the earth’s orbit is elongated rather than circular and thus long periods of winter or summer are possible.
Love the game of thrones uploads. You guys have the best reactions to every series that you watch, it genuinely feels like I'm watching with a group of my friends
They keep asking for a map to show all the locations in the world despite the fact that such a map appears in the introductory titles of every episode!
Absolutely, you must watch the History and Lore every season, at least until season 5 (I believe 5 or 6 covers the Dance of Dragons in some depth). It's included as part of some very important Targaryen lore that definitely adds to one's appreciation of GOT, but one of you old hands need to go through it and edit it around that.
There’s been no fossil evidence of dragons. However, as mentioned by Cannon, it’s crazy that many different cultures from around the world have dragons in their lore. There’s a theory that dragon bones could’ve been like bird bones and just too brittle to turn into fossils.
You guys must watch the Histories and Lore of Westeros after each season finale. They are told from the POV of different characters and explains a lot of history for characters like Robert, Tywin, Ned, Maestors and the Nights Watch
@@dtmt502 I don't think so - the shows in development are not based on detailed scenes or stories, it's lore and mythology. To better enjoy GOT, these dudes need to know the history, lore and political culture of this world. Or else, they'll stay confused about important details Knowing how Aegon conquered the 7 Kingdoms isn't going to reveal the details of his relationship with his sister wives or how Dorne devised a strategy to stop the dragon invasion.
@@dtmt502 If they react to it now, I highly doubt they'll still remember most of it by whatever time a show about Aegon's Conquest comes out. It probably won't be created until after HOTD is done anyway, so it'll be a few years before we get that yet.
"We live inside the blue-eye of a giant named Macomber" Now, if you may indulge me, take a look at the title cards, the detailed animation of the world's map. Now tell me it doesn't seem like the inside of the sphere, rather than the outside. How the earth bends to the inside, rather than the outside. How the sun is in the middle of the empty space within. Genious
Remember in Hotd when people were debating whether Viserys was a good dad because he did the bare minimal ? Ned ends the debate . He is what a good dad looks like 🤌
btw winter doesn't mean no sun. that's just a myth from 8000 years ago of an event known as the long night. when winter set in and the sun set it didn't rise for a generation and during the long night the white walkers came. after they were defeated winter ended and the sun rose once again and afterward the first stark bran the builder built the wall in case the white walkers ever came again
the winters Tyrion has seen are short if he saw 9 and they last between months and few years it means he never saw a true winter, those true winters last like a decade
Guys, please be careful, when you continue to watch this show. In season 3 or 4 there is a girl, who spoils the end of house of the dragon (Because she is kind of explaining some history stuff). Please watch out and maybe ask you patreon subscribers to notify you before you watch the said episode.

House of the Dragon takes place 300 years before Game of Thrones. In the first episode of GOT, Eddard Stark says the white walkers haven't been around for thousands of years. When Targaryens took over Westeros with their dragons, the white walkers were a fairy tail from millenia before. There was nothing in the North but wildlings. Targaryens couldn't care any less about them.
To the White Walker point: In the books, the characters actually question whether the White Walkers come when its cold, or whether they bring the cold with them when they come.

I think Jaime wasn't trying to be an ass with Ned there, but it came off wrong
Ned is a real jerk to Jaime, jaime’s justified in being one back.
these guys are really cute 😆 love their reactions too
What keeps white walkers north of the wall is the difference between daylight and darkness more than it has to do with temperature.
Haha!)
From what we've gleaned in the books, the WW had been "dormant" north of the Wall for thousands of years.
People are so lame
The budget for seasons 1-5 of Game of Thrones was about $6,000,000 per episode. The budget jumped to $10 million per episode for seasons 6 and 7 and up to $15 million dollars per episode for season 8. The budget for the first season of House of the Dragons was $20,000,000 per episode.
You should definitely do Lord of the Rings reaction for whoever hasn't seen it.
hell yeah keep the episodes coming bois
This is a parallel world or dimension where the earth’s orbit is elongated rather than circular and thus long periods of winter or summer are possible.
Before GOT, Sean bean was called Sean bean no matter what charater he played. Now we call him Ned Stark.
I didn't even realize it, but you're totally right.
Actually when people (like my self) watch LOTR first then he is forever Boromir
In episode 1 Robert Baratheon the King said Ned’s sister was killed by the Targaryen’s…by Rhaegar Targaryen if I’m remembering the names correctly.
Love the game of thrones uploads. You guys have the best reactions to every series that you watch, it genuinely feels like I'm watching with a group of my friends
Best comment ever
Not usually a fan of group reactions, but I adore you guys. Great job. You all are catching on quick!
"Winter is coming" = "Shits about to get real"
They keep asking for a map to show all the locations in the world despite the fact that such a map appears in the introductory titles of every episode!
Ohh i didnt noticed you guys startet Got, just saw the House of Dragon videos which im not into.. i like GoT, so im back hehe °^°
I think avoiding the scene in season 3 episode 4 with the spoilers for HOTD would be good, no?
Please binge watch the rest of season one!!!! 😊😊😊😊
Yes you guys should definitely do the LOTR movies!
Ohhhhh I waited for this one
Please react and post daily each episode.
There’s been no fossil evidence of dragons. However, as mentioned by Cannon, it’s crazy that many different cultures from around the world have dragons in their lore. There’s a theory that dragon bones could’ve been like bird bones and just too brittle to turn into fossils.
Ok I’m sorry but can we talk about how how fine Brigs’ hair looks 🙈
Do it. Do LOTR series with Brig.
Y’all should watch/react to the history and lore videos after each season
You guys must watch the Histories and Lore of Westeros after each season finale. They are told from the POV of different characters and explains a lot of history for characters like Robert, Tywin, Ned, Maestors and the Nights Watch
They should not it will spoil future HBO series that are in the works
@@dtmt502 I don't think so - the shows in development are not based on detailed scenes or stories, it's lore and mythology. To better enjoy GOT, these dudes need to know the history, lore and political culture of this world. Or else, they'll stay confused about important details
Knowing how Aegon conquered the 7 Kingdoms isn't going to reveal the details of his relationship with his sister wives or how Dorne devised a strategy to stop the dragon invasion.
@@andilezulu292no they should not it will ruin their reactions. People are here for the reactions because they are not dorks.
@@dtmt502 If they react to it now, I highly doubt they'll still remember most of it by whatever time a show about Aegon's Conquest comes out. It probably won't be created until after HOTD is done anyway, so it'll be a few years before we get that yet.
Yup Histories & Lore reactions after each season!! 👏 👏 👏
Every house have a tagline.
Starks: winter is coming
Lannister:
Targaryen:
Mormont:
Etc.
Hear Me Roar
Fire & Blood
@@johnnyskinwalker4095 i know. I don't telling for don't spoiler
Should watch and probably react to “History and Lore” from the bluray. It will helps with the world building.
I never ever ever comment on yt videos but y'all should definitely do a lotr series
Every family (house) has their own words (Saying). The Starks: "winter is coming", Lannisters: "Hear Me Roar!" And so on and so forth.
"We live inside the blue-eye of a giant named Macomber"
Now, if you may indulge me, take a look at the title cards, the detailed animation of the world's map. Now tell me it doesn't seem like the inside of the sphere, rather than the outside. How the earth bends to the inside, rather than the outside. How the sun is in the middle of the empty space within.
Genious
Brig doesn't look like Joe Burrow. Joe Burrow is the one who looks like Brig.
Love getting a notification from you guys. Your GOT reactions are making my mornings a lot better! Keep em coming ☺
Another video of Brig without his cap on! lezzgo! and this is my second day of commenting about it until he notices me. lol❤🔥
Maybe I’ll keep scrolling so the compliments keep rolling in 😁
@@brigandrus gosh, you noticed me already? i'm actually hoping for my 1000th day of commenting the same thing if you hadn't noticed me already. haha💜
the winters Tyrion has seen are short if he saw 9 and they last between months and few years it means he never saw a true winter, those true winters last like a decade
yes yes and yes for the lotr series
Can you please post your names each episode? New watcher here and I get lost with who is who.
Guys, please be careful, when you continue to watch this show. In season 3 or 4 there is a girl, who spoils the end of house of the dragon (Because she is kind of explaining some history stuff). Please watch out and maybe ask you patreon subscribers to notify you before you watch the said episode.
That and the conversation in the sept i think also from that season(?)
I really feel like this is not going to “spoil” people. Watching the way the story plays out blow by blow is enjoyable. I read the books before watching and know all that’s coming but didn’t enjoy it any less
I really feel like this is not going to “spoil” people. Watching the way the story plays out blow by blow is enjoyable. I read the books before watching and know all that’s coming but didn’t enjoy it any less . In fact I anticipated more eagerly
Bran is named Brandon they call him Bran for short. Easy to remember that way 😂😂😂
Massive yes to LOTR series!!
We need the rest quickly!❤❤❤
