OMG. I actually might have to say you creating the board was the best part of the whole reaction. Best part of this video…and that’s says lot since the actual reaction of the show was great as well.
Seasons work differently in that world. Both summer and winter can last decades and as you can imagine, it's a bit of a big deal for the North. Only reason why Winterfell is able to survive it that it sits on a natural hot spring. They actually pump the hot water from the spring through the walls of the castle to keep it comfortable, even during the long winters.
seasons did use to last longer depending wich time ur in GRRM got that from real history like alot of things
They don't usually last decades, they're anywhere between a few months and a decade. This summer is 9 years, the longest summer in living memory.
And summers are almost as dangerous because the South becomes so hot it causes the Dorneish to invade
Rewatching the first episodes it really flew over my head that a LOT of time passes between scenes. Every time we move to a different area, it is likely days/weeks/months have passed by already. That's why the Ravens appear to be almost instantaneous communication devices.
I'm also glad someone finally recognizes that Ned has PTSD from the last war, a lot of people thinks is just Ned being worried about something else
I also think it's the combo of PTSD and also the realisation dawning on him that his kid is being taught to kill to defend herself, and the thought of her being in that much peril and the idea that she'll have to use her wits and skills to save herself is a bit chilling for him. It's the contrast between the playful banter of Arya and Syrio's first meeting and the clash of the swords and all the near misses he's pointing out to her.
Ned's face kind of reads to me that he fears what's coming is coming for them all 😰 (none of that was meant to be hinty or spoilery!)

Khaleesi is a title which means "Khal's wife". Daenerys is her name.
The picture of the kid you didn't recognise is probably Rickon, Ned and Cat's youngest child.
You might want to add to the chart that Joffrey has two younger siblings, Tommen and Myrcella.
Khaleesi means Queen as khal means King
@@joshuasutton355 Eh kind of but not really. King and queen are the closest conceptually, but Khal means something more like "great warlord," and Khaleesi just means the wife of the Khal.
In order, that would be Myrcella and then Tommen.

In the game of thrones world seasons last years rather than months. It is believed that the longer the summer is than the longer the winter will be. That is why Winter is so important in Westeros. Imagine being snowed in for over a year. Imagine all the food you and your family would need to survive.
Can't wait tor you guys to do the Histories and Lore for season 1. Things start to make sense when you get the back history of the world. Bran truly doesnt remember what happened. He's not lying to anyone. The actress that played Arya is right-handed but learned to sword fight left-handed because she realized how crazy the book fans were and how picky so she had the choreographer do everything over for a lefty so she would authentic. Great thinking for a then Eleven year old.

To be clear, they DO actually mean "Winter is coming" in a literal sense as well. And the winters ARE abnormally long. Not much explanation in-universe about the seasons, but it could be explained if we knew the size of their planet, distance from the sun, speed that it turns, speed it revolves around the sun, angle of it's axis, etc. But basically winter might be a couple years, few decades, or apparently even centuries, and they just aren't nearly advanced enough to predict it accurately.
GRRM has gone on record saying that the abnormal lengths of the seasons are a magical phenomenon, not an astrological one.

But honestly as far as I'm concerned he's abandoned the books and we'll never even see Winds of Winter or Dream of Spring so I'm not even counting stuff he says in Q&A sessions as canon if it's not already written. Lol.
@@jimmymcgill2772 That's a fair position to take, but it's not true to say he's abandoned the books. He's been updating us regularly for the past couple of years about where he's at with writing Winds. There was a huge update about it the middle of last year.
@@bookswithike3256 ya idk man, I don't think he's really giving anything in his "updates". Last he said was he had written like 1100 pages and still needed 4-500 more. He's a great writer and world builder, but I think his eyes got too big, he overscaled and now he's written himself into a corner and doesn't know what to do, too many threads to tie together in the end, so instead of working on finishing it he just keeps saying "yea I'm working on it..."
Not even trying to be a jerk, but it's just math at this point. His age and health, he'll likely never live to finish the series before he dies at this pace. He's been saying "WoW coming soon!" since like 2010. I feel like he's pretty much checked out.

You'll learn more about him as you continue to watch, but Varys (the bald guy) is The Master of Whisperers on the King's small council. His job is to literally know everything. And his 'little birds' are the spies he has everywhere.

YES it has been summer for 10+ years! In their world, seasons last a looooooong time. And long summers mean even longer winters, especially for the North. For the entire realm, it means food shortages and harder travel (impossible in the North).
It’s like their entire way of life, getting through winter or preparing for winter

You've met a few other parties now that you can add to your board. These are all characters you have already met, and who have already been named (so, there should be no spoilers here). Along with Khal Drogo and Daenerys, you have met Ser Jorah Mormont, who is traveling with the Dothraki. At the Wall, you have been introduced to several key members of the Night's Watch: Yoren, who will be traveling with Tryion to King's Landing (he collects "recruits" for the Night's Watch), Lord Commander Jeor Mormont, the big, burly bear who is the leader of the Night's Watch; Ser Alliser Thorne, who trains the recruits; Maester Aemon, the blind old man; as well as new recruits, including Gren (who got his nose broken) and Pip (who stole the bread to feed his starving sister). In King's Landing, you've also met the Small Council, including old Grand Maester Pycelle, Lord Varys (whose 'little birds' feed him information from everywhere), Lord Petyr Baelish-- also known as "Littlefinger" (the Master of Coins, who runs several brothels), and Renly Baratheon (youngest brother of the King). In King's Landing, you've also met Ser Barristan Selmy (Head of the Kingsguard) and Lancel Lannister (cousin to the Lannisters you already know and love). You are correct about the ending - that was 100% PTSD for Ned. He does NOT like war, and doesn't have fond memories of it like Robert does.

if you want one of those cloaks they wear at the wall its just a nice cape with an ikea faux fur rug sewn to it. they talked about making them and how they used those as a cheap way to do it easily. but they definitely sell those cloaks too as a thing fans can buy.

It always kills me how Ned blames Jaime for killing the king who killed Ned's father and brother.
Ned has high standards when it comes to a moral code of honor, loyalty & keeping your word. He views what Jaime did as dishonorable & disloyal because as a member of the King's Guard Jaime took a vow to protect & serve his king no matter what. Ned views what happened to his brother & father as sad & unfortunate, but he accepted it. The rebellion & ousting of the Mad King was mostly Robert Baratheon's doing. Ned out of loyalty to this best friend went along for the ride. @ least that's how I see it.

Side story for context...
Jaime had long had abhard on for Ned. Not only because he feels like Ned judged him for killing the Mad King, but also because Ned killed Ser Arthur Dayne. Ser Arthur Dayne was one of Westeros' most legendary swordsmen, he fought with 2 swords at the same time. Ser Arthur was also a brother of the Kings Guard with Jaime, and one of Jaime's lifelong idols and one of his teachers. So, Jaime *really* wants a piece of Lord Eddard Stark.

Those wolves they got as pets aren’t just wolves, they’re Dire wolves. I’ve never heard of them til this show. Lol. They’re basically GIANT F’n wolves (full grown). That one that protected Bran, was a puppy and was the size of a full grown husky or German shepherd. The dire wolves that are still around, are gonna be huuuge. Can’t wait lol
