Wow, you posted this eleven years ago and I'm just now finding it! I watched a ton of TH-cam and multiple search engines trying to ideas on my leak. Replaced a seal, replaced the whole canister valve, was going to buy an whole new tank until I saw your video on the tube siphoning. What was puzzling was that the water would only go so far (the length of the tube) THANK YOU.
Ha! Now you're making me feel old for sure! So glad you found my channel as you can always send me DIY questions anytime on any of my DIY videos. Have you seen how many DIY videos I have? over 3000. Solution two concerning the little black tube was the fix. The bathroom was recently repainted and I suspect that the painter may have accidentally pushed the tube down when he had the tank lid off. The toilet started running every 20 minutes even after I replaced the flapper. I was just about to replace the tank gasket when I looked at this video and found the 30 second fix that saved the day. Thanks! Tom

I replaced a flapper and watched 5 videos before this one getting ready to do the gasket. Turned out I had a siphon from the tube sitting too low. Thanks man, you saved me from wasting an afternoon!

Bam! That's it. I replaced the flapper and it was still leaking. Then I watched your video and you mentioned that the filler tube can be too far down and siphon water into the tube. This caused me to remember that I had pushed the tube down farther so that it didn't come out. As soon as I saw that part in your video, I said to myself, "That's it!" Thank you for your video.
Thanks, Joe, after changing the gasket once and flapper twice my toilet's tank still was losing water to the bowl, by watching your wonderful video my problem solved. The problem was the drain tube which was too deep. I am a woman who likes to fix things around the house and you can imagine my frustration. Thanks a lot again.

Hi Mr. Joe, I am a widow with a 5yrs boy. THANK YOU SO VERY MUCH for sharing these awesome DIY videos! Your videos made my day!! I have this internal toilet leaking issue for months, and I never knew what was going on until I saw your videos. I watches your videos and tried to fix it the laking problem, and I made it! No more leaking toilet problems in my house. :-) . I have been trying to fix things at home all by myself. I don't want to bother my neighbors too much unless I really can't figure it out. Google and TH-cam have been my best friends for years. Again, Thank you for sharing these wonderful videos! *^_^*
You are so very welcome! I am so glad my videos have found you! Thanks for taking time out to send me your kind comments. Much appreciated! Also impressed you were able to fix your toilet. Way to go! Joe :0
God bless you! Your tip on the fill tube siphoning water as one of the causes to leakage RESOLVED my issue. The last plumber I paid to replace my defective flush valve left the fill tube sitting inside the verticle tube, so the leak has been going on for months since. So I pulled it out and have it rested correctly on the white support that is on the verticle tube. The leak stopped immediately. That is why the fill tube must be rested on top of the verticle tube not rested inside it. You are an excellent instructor to mention that culprit. Thanks.
Thanks so much for your message. I appreciate the feedback & good for you for finding my video so you could fix the issue....finally! Look at all the water you are saving plus your sanity too!
Thanks Video Joe, I discovered my leak after many attempts to repair, I watched your video. My leak was your 2nd reason --(the suction was created because the hose was too far down the tube) . I was going to replace the whole toliet this afternoon, so you save me time and money. Thanks again
Thank you for the video, Many other videos keep talking about the flapper. I've replaced it but it was still leaking. I lifted the black tube and it worked!!
So glad you found this video! I have more DIY videos on my channel that could save you ,money around the house. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & have at it. Try it!
You just saved us about a hundred and fifty dollars and tons of irritation. I replaced every part that could've been leaking to no avail. The stupid toilet from hell kept leaking and running...upping our water bill by twenty bucks a month. I was so frustrated I nearly went to the hardware store and bought a new toilet. Then I watched your video and learned about the fill tube siphon thing! Problem SOLVED! Thank you SO much. You're a genius!!
Wow so cool to hear you FINALLY got your toilet from hell fixed! Thank you so much for finding my channel & for your message! Have a great weekend! Joe :0
Thank you very much! Possibilty #2 was my issue. The dumb fill hose was half way down the pipe which was EXACTLY where the water was "leaking" (now know it was siphoning) to.
Awesome job with figuring it out! I have a ton of toilet videos on my channel for more learning. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down. Try it!
Cool!! alot of times this one little pipe does the trick. It was YOU who found this video. I just made it but you found it, watched it, & applied it. You rock! Joe :0
Awesome to hear! That's what to expect anytime you watch any of my 4000 plus DIY videos....you save money, ahem! Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to see how much more money you could save....try it!
Thank you for the video. I have no experience with plumbing and after replacing the overflow pipe, I was at my wits end at why the tank was still leaking. I found your video and after listening to your three diagnoses, I figured out the issue. 1. It's a new flapper and it's not the source. 2. Replaced the overflow pipe with a new gasket 3. Stupid water fill tube was several inches deep inside the overflow pipe and it was siphoning water into the bowl. Thank you again. Problem solved.
WOW! Thanks so much; my problem was the Black Tube Pipe from the Fill Valve!! This has been driving me crazy. Had a maintenance worker that couldnt figue it out, bought parts, though I was going to have to buy a new toilet and this resolved the problem just adjust the pipe. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
Thanks for the tip Joe Our one year old toilet had tank water trickling into the bowl. After changing the flapper (no dice) then removing the tank and sealing the gaskets with caulking ( nope) I shines a light down the overflow pipe and could see the little hose dripping down into the bowl----It was siphoning. I had pushed it too far down into the overflow stand pipe.. The easiest fix is sometimes the one we overlook....Thanks for the video.
Thanks so much for your message. Yes looks easy enough once you learned how! I have lots of other helpful DIY videos on my channel to learn & save from. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down. You won't be disappointed!
Hey thanks for letting me know this video helped you with solving the internal leak issue. glad to hear you were able to pin point the problem & get it fixed. Way to go! Joe :0
Sounds like your gasket under the flapper is bad, & is draining the water very slowly out of the toilet tank, & running into the bowl. Most people call it a doughnut since that's what it looks like. This is the big black round gasket that is between the tank & the bowl. I think that's where it leaking, since your tank is dry. How old is your toilet? Are the bolts loose at this gasket? (probably not). Your gasket is clean wore out sounds like. They can be replaced though. Joe :0
i cant freaking believe it...such a simple fix...i just tried that on my toilet and bam its fixed as well..it been making that dripping sound for YEARS and now its A ok...thanks JOE!!!!!!!
I just subscribed.. Thank you so much for solving my problem. My husband tried by replacing the flapper at first but we still had the problem. Then we adjusted the hose like you suggested and boom the problem was solved. We used a paper clip and configured it to hold the host at the right height. But will go and purchase the clipper thingy to make sure it's secure Thanks a million :)
@Mrsprstewart Did you replace the water fill valve with the kind I show here? You should be able to adjust the float so you will have less water in the tank. The water should be an inch lower than the overflow pipe. How high is your water in the tank? Sounds like your float needs to be adjusted. Joe :0
I would not recommend cutting the hose a little shorter & just leaving it, as it could start flying around when it fills with water. You could fashion a little "S" hook out of a paperclip & do it that way. I've done that before & it works good, if you get the "S" right. Or you can go to the hardware store & purchase just that part. Thanks for commenting. Joe :0
Hi Joe, just watched your video....I just finished replacing my fill valve assembly and everything seemed to be in working order....then I heard the water coming back on....so I shut off the water to the tank and came back the next day to find the tank totally drained, but water was still in the bowl.....when I replaced the fill valve assembly I also replaced the flapper..
@athomas1124 Not necessarily. Your toilet could be running for anoter reason. Give me more info. on your toilet & maybe we can figure out why your toilet is running. Is there a constant noise or periodically? Take your tank lid off & tell me how high your water is to the top of the drain pipe too. It might be that. Send me a response. Thanks for your question. Joe :0
Just found this video. Never knew about the fill tube and siphon thing. pulled the tube out so it was just in enough to work. Toilet hasn't run for an hour. thanks for the info.
Dude. Way to go with finding the issue to your toilet! See the cool things you could learn by just watching ALL of "joe's" videos? Ha! Only about 2000 videos for you to still look at!! Joe :0
Thank you, your video has been the easiest for me to understand how to fix the problem in my toilet which I'm pretty sure is the fill hose. Can I just cut the little hose some if I don't have one of those things to prop it up in the valve?
You should try to use what I use or an "s" goodie because when you cut the tube shorter, it may then have a tendency to fly out of there when the water pressure goes on then flip the tube out & the water could then hit the bottom of the tank lid then letting the water spill out onto your floor...see what I mean? Thanks for stopping by!
Dude , thank you thank you thank you. I installed a new toilet two years ago and the sucker never worked right . Always would drain water and we have been turning the valve on and off when using every time. I just randomly looked at your video and I’ll be d@&$@$$...the fill tube was to long. One snip and it’s works perfect. Thank you thank you thank you
Awesome awesome & another awesome goes here! That's the stuff I make on my DIY videos....all kinds of things for you to learn so you can save more money around the house. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down through the many DIY topics I have waiting for you....try it. Thanks again for your message!
#2 got me. My tube was only about 1/4" down the pipe, but the tank water level was about 1/4" below the top of the pipe as well. I adjusted the water level down another half inch and then made sure the edge of the tube was resting on the top of the pipe. I have one of those s-clips so I can't really go higher than that without it spraying into the tank. I replaced the flap first and I was sure that was going to fix it because the flap had started to decompose and leave residue around the area where the flap makes a seal. That flap was going to be a problem soon, so it wasn't a waste of money.
I replaced the flapper and stem and the two brass screws and the big rubber gasket. It stopped the leaking into the toilet, but now the tank is dripping onto the floor, a very slow drip.
onemon22 Did you put the rubber washers on properly for the two long brass screws that hold the tank to the toilet bowl? Are you seeing the water dripping from there? You might have to tighten those bolts up a little bit more but not too much or you could crack the toilet tank or the toilet bowl ledge. Look carefully & see where the leak is coming from before trying to tighten the wrong screws that are not leaking. I hate working on toilets. Don't give up on it though. I'm pretty sure you'll be able to stop that leak! Let me know how you do.......
I never thought about the drain tube and have been messing with the flapper & tank gasket...Thank you for mentioning the possibility of siphoning...wow and I never heard it happening...
+Gregory graham Yes I had never thought of it either until it happened to me once upon a time. Now you know. Check that out & once you have that tube supported properly & you still have siphoning issues then you can start looking elsewhere. let me know what you find that was causing your toilet tank to drain. Thanks for your message! Joe :0
I replaced the flapper and it continued to leak. It was driving me nuts. Turns out it was just that fill tube syphoning water out. What an easy fix. Thank you very much for posting this
LMAO. That's why i thought I should make a video of this since it's happened to me so I knew it was happening to some viewers as well. Thanks for your message!
I think the number one problem is that fill valve diaphragm is leaking filling the tank and dumping it on overflow tube. So you have to flush it, clean the diaphragm every two years, check water height every 2 months, if water on overflow rim, flush/clean the diaphragm or replace if cracked, advise from apartment owner. Second is flapper, clean algae, replace if stiff/deform, fill tube hose is not a problem even if you put them below water line.
Joe, should the mouth of the hose that clips on the overflow tube be clipped to the inside of the tube or the outside? Since this is overflow, where does the water that flows into the tube go? thansk!
The tube usually gets clipped so it goes to the inside of the drain but I have seen them on the outside as well. This water just goes & fills up the toilet tank after you flush that's all. Great that you're trying to learn to save money around the house! Way to go! Joe :0
I've made some videos on how to replace this gasket but I haven't edited them yet. I'm going to call them "the toilet from hell" & you'll know why once I put that series up on my channel. If you replaced the flapper & the water fill valve, I know you can tackle the gasket bowl. Look closely at the type you have & the bolt pattern ect. & you should be able to get new parts at your local hardware store. Thanks for commenting. Good luck with your project. Joe :0
Yes this one had the triangular piece under but after much work I decided not to use a new one at all rather three separate bolts instead. Worked! I made lots of videos of this toilet! Go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to toilets for more learning if need be!
This is generally what the inside of a 6 year old toilet tank should look like. Thanks for continuing to watch "joe".......so you can impress the hubby! Joe :0
Thanks for noticing the clean toilet tank! Yours can be like that too. Just turn the water off at the wall gate valve then flush the toilet. Now you're ready to sponge the rest of the water out. You can wear gloves if you need to!.....eeeeww! Now you can wipe up the bottom & sides, spray some disenfectant in there even, & presto!....good as new. That's "joe" for you.....always trying to help you out! :0
4th possibility is that previous installer of tank cracked the tank by over tightening the bowl bolts that have the rubber washers holding the tank in place. You may or may not see the crack, but when sitting down on the bowl it can rock the tank just enough to create a leak there. Also, you may find small chips inside the tank that give it away as a clue. Get down and watch as you flush the toilet and sometimes you can even see the water leaking from the bolt area of the tank. The siphon tube was something I was not familiar with. Unfortunately, it was cheaper for me to replace the entire toilet than to just replace the tank in my old Crane toilet. That particular style was no longer manufactured and the comfort, low flush toilet was a good replacement to do at this time, anyway. In fact, I'll be doing just that in a few more hours. Thanks for posting the info. Unless I missed it though, you didn't follow up to say if your leak was resolved or not and if it was indeed the gasket or not.
Great explanation for another thing that could be leaking! I see you replaced your toilet. Might I recommend any time someone replaces a toilet to go with the handicap height toilets since the older we get the better off we all are for a little bit higher toilet! lol Thanks for taking the time to send me your comments! Joe :0
Wow I am a clean freak but that toilettank sure looks clean like new or is it a new appliance anyway apart from that another useful typ for us ladies when the hubby has two left hands and we get to do this odd job again :=)) Happy Easter xoxo
Hey thanks alot for subscribing! I especially liked the part on how you explained you fixed it (Boom!). Did you pick that up from me? Cool !! Thanks for commenting & hope you enjoy my channel. Joe :0
Another place to leak is a hairline crack in the overflow tube and also it can leak pass through deteriorated washers under the tank bolts inside the tank.
How old is your toilet? Does it have the same type of ball floa I show in this video?...or something else? If you lift the arm manually, can you get the water to stop? It might be time to replace the water fill valve unit. Joe :0
Of course there is a video for everything. Yes I also reply to comments....doesn't everyone?!! Your own personal coach, as it were, for your questions on your howto/DIY projects. I want to help you start saving some money! Killer dress BTW! Joe :0
I just replaced the entire inside to my toilet. When I turned the water back on, then the tank filled up. Later, I heard dripping and went in to find the water was overflowing through the handle. The floater did not stop the water flow. So I know where the leak is coming from but do not know how to fix it. Any thoughts or suggestions?
Hey Joe, don't know if you're there or not. BUT....I think that it's the gasket that's leaking in my toilet....can I just dry it out inside and use some caulking around the gasket. It's an older toilet, and probably will be replaced in a few years. Thanks for any help.
VideoJoeKnows Thanks Joe. But of course, it begs the question....have you ever tried? Sometimes, replacement isn't cost effective. Somebody told me Silicone caulk would work.
No I have never tried. I would hate to say it would work only to find you taking the time to do it & to have it fail. My concern would be is how old is the gasket & I would think the silicone may not properly bond to the gasket material since the gasket has become wet, etc.. what did they suggest at the hardware store? have you asked them? Joe :0
VideoJoeKnows Thing is Joe, I have to hire somebody to do it. I'm 62 years old and really have a hard time getting down and behind the toilet to do any major repairs. I haven't been to the hardware store, but I know a tube of silicone is cheaper than a plumber. I talked to the maintenance man here at my condo, he was the one that recommended the silicone, if that's what I was going to try.
Hi Joe, by any chance that you know how to fix the leaking from the upstair toilet down to the basement? only leak when somebody flush the toilet upstair. last time it happened once. i got some plumber to help and it only took him like 5 minutes. this time it happen again, but i want to try to fix it myself first (too expensive to call a plumber :)) thanks Joe
Well it sounds like the toilet wax wing is leaking so everytime you flush the toilet some of the water leaks out from under the toilet then eventually will soak up your floor area on the 2nd floor enough to then start trickling down to the first floor ceiling or adjoining wall when you flush up there. That's my guess but then you could also have some other issue like your toilet bowl could have a hairline crack in it or something else that is causing the leak. What did you end up doing to fix it? I have lots of videos for toilets if you want to learn more for next time you need to work on a toilet. Go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to toilets. Thanks
Is it normal to see very slight streaming of water going into the toilet bowl while the bowl is filling up? And there should be no water streaming into the bowl after the tank is done filling correct?
You like Sesame Street too?!! Actually thanks for the reminder. I will attempt to talk to you other than a 5 year old, as I do not want to take you back to there! Anyway hopefully you still learned something by watching this video. Will keep your comments close, when I prepare my next video. Oh yea...always more videos! Take care & thanks for commenting. Joe :0
Hey Joe. I have a leak inside the actual toilet bowl. There is a constant flow in the front part of the bowl. I already opened up the tank and pressed down on the flap but, that didn't stop the flow. What can it be?
+pepelepew02 Your toilet spud nut/rubber gasket could be in need of replacement. That's the gasket just below the toilet flapper & if this gasket is loose or not holding water anymore it will drain your water from the tank to directly to your toilet bowl. That could be your issue or your water fill valve tube if it's pushed down too far into your tank drain outlet, it could be siphoning the water out of your tank without you even realizing it. Check those things out. it's prolly one of those if you don't think its your toilet flapper. Play this video again to see what I mean.......let me know what you find... Joe :0
I know who the Captain was but never really got into Romper Room. I haven't edited a video yet, for the tank & bowl replacement gasket just yet. I made a video of it but I still need to edit it. I will be calling that video series "the toilet from hell"!...hmmmm, I wonder why?....lol Coming to my station soon.....look for it. Joe :0
Not sure why your toilet "bowl" is not filling up. How long has it been this way? Have you noticed anything unusual happen to your toilet. Do you have water in the tank? If you have water in the tank, when you flush the tank, that water goes directly to your toilet bowl. Is your tank not filling up with water? That';s what it sounds like. Is your water valve shut off for some reason & someone didn't tell you? Joe :0
Ok....i put all new rubber seals, and a new flap...my tube has a fastener so it don't go too far. Haven't checked the gasket yet...but my problem is my tank draining...theres no water on the floor or leaking from tank but I'm having so obvious floor damage all of a sudden and it keeps leaking with no signs of where it is going. If it is the gasket under flap...how am I getting water damage? I'm kinda freaking.
Your toilet floor gasket sounds like it's leaking just a little causing a little water to seep around the bees wax ring every time you flush the toilet. I like to use the waxless toilet seals from now on & I believe I have some videos of that on my channel as well as some other ones that could assist you with your toilet troubles. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists then scroll down to toilet from hell or toilets & take a look. Worry for not getting back to you sooner. i also have lots of DIY topics/videos in the playlists area for all kinds of ways to save money around the house. Check it out! Thanks again for your message & let me know how you get your toilet issue resolved. You should do it soon if you haven't already.
It's a mystery never to be known but I swear it happens all the time. Just read some of the comments & I know for a fact as it happened to me too! Thanks for stopping by!
If the gasket between the tank and bowl was leaking, the water would run down the outside of the toilet bowl onto the floor. It would not leak into the bowl itself as stated. Now if the flapper was leaking, that would leak into the bowl.
number 2 was the issue for me also...........................a plumber installed the overflow incorrectly and it was syphoning water into the bowl. For the month after the repair my water bill trebled
I received some dye tablets from my city office. The water turned blue. I connected the clip and replaced the hose. The water turned blue again. I don't have the traditional flapper the mechanism raises up and re-seats itself. Any suggestions?
Someone told me that my invisible leak (noticeable only because the tank periodically fills on its own) is caused by a "hairline crack" in the tank (that leaks water into the bowl) and that the only solution is to replace the whole toilet. I like to keep my original toilet and would like to fix the hairline crack with something like Flex Seal. Could you explain how to go about that? Is it possible that there is a hairline crack somewhere in the tank that would let water through incredibly slowly? how could I locate the hairline crack? Thank you!
Yes that is possible but I would certainly try other things first like the stuff I show in this video. did you check all these things? I have some other toilet videos for checking a few other things too. Just go to my main TH-cam channel page then click on playlists & scroll down to toilets to find out. What did you end up finding? If you haven't done anything I would see if it's something else first....Could also be a leaking doughnut connection where the water can still slowly drain from the tank to the bowl without you seeing it. I would rule out all things before assuming a crack that just happens to be where you can't see it & no where else & no water seeping anywhere where you can see it or leaking on the floor. Seems highly unlikely to me...but not impossible.
Haha some viewers like how I explain stuff & I try to do it in a way to where any DIY beginner can then see & understand how to do it themselves. Sorry if I came across any other way....
My toilet tank keeps going down to where I'm filling it almost every time I flush it. It's using about two gallons of water a day that I manually pour into the tank. Should I replace the toilet?
Wow I wonder why you r toilet is doing that. There could be a few different reasons. what did you end up doing? Did you replace the toilet. The new style toilets don't take much water to flush either....
I know for sure that my toilet has a leak somewhere but i know for sure it's not in the tank portion BUT in the bowl portion. After a proper flush, water is refilled properly in the tank and the bowl but shortly there after, water in the bowl disappears into the drain. There is no water anywhere on the floor or other parts of the toilet. Can someone explain what they think might be going on? Thanks!!!
+Arbknight Wow not sure what is causing your water to disappear in just the toilet bowl. I am going to guess you may have a hairline crack in your toilet somewhere below your toilet bowl area that holds the water then the water is going directly down the toilet drain in the floor thus you are not seeing an actual water leak anywhere. This same thing will continue to happen until you change out your toilet. I'm sure that is what is happening since there is no other explanation on why your toilet bowl water is disappearing. If you have any questions go to your local hardware store & discuss your issue with a sales person in the plumbing department & see what he comes up with but I would wager he will say the same thing. Joe :0
+roger brambila I know. It was informative but I do agree. And my wife yelled the same thing from the next room "He talks way too much!" :) Anyway, nobody is perfect. Some guys don't talk at all in their videos and make you read all this text in a horrible, unreadable font, while they're doing something really complicated that you can't understand. So I guess we can't complain...
+dvrman Ha! That's the spirit. Thanks for sticking up for me! I try.....that's the main point. Always coming up with ways to assist my viewers. Thanks for giving me a chance! Oh....I get my talking ability from my Motha!...lol
+roger brambila Ha! I get my talking ability from my Motha. I figure the more I talk the more you learn. Sorry you didn't agree.... Thanks for your message.
Have you seen how many DIY videos I have? over 3000. If that tube extends down too far down the drain pipe then your toilet will syphon...
@@VideoJoeKnows That was my problem. Been driving me nuts for months. Thank you!

Awesome dude. Way to go! Bam!!

Hi Mr. Joe,
I am a widow with a 5yrs boy.
Way to go! Joe :0
You nailed it Joe on the syphoning tube! Thank you!
Thanks so much for taking time out to send me your message. Much appreciated!
Try it!
In fact I have lots of DIY topics in the playlists area that could save you money....
Cool!! alot of times this one little pipe does the trick. It was YOU who found this video. I just made it but you found it, watched it, & applied it. You rock! Joe :0
Joe! Reason number 2!!!! You saved me a lot of heart ache! Many thanks!!!!
2. Replaced the overflow pipe with a new gasket
3. Stupid water fill tube was several inches deep inside the overflow pipe and it was siphoning water into the bowl.
Thank you again. Problem solved.
Awesome for figuring it out for sure. You rock!!
WOW! Thanks so much; my problem was the Black Tube Pipe from the Fill Valve!! This has been driving me crazy. Had a maintenance worker that couldnt figue it out, bought parts, though I was going to have to buy a new toilet and this resolved the problem just adjust the pipe. THANK YOU! THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
So awesome to hear! Just a little thing like that can cause so much hassles....right?!!
Cool! I always like to hear when a viewer (you) saves money. Thanks for letting VideoJoeKnow! :0
Hey thanks for letting me know this video helped you with solving the internal leak issue. glad to hear you were able to pin point the problem & get it fixed. Way to go! Joe :0
Thanks Joe! My problem was option #2. Easiest fix ever! +50 handy hubby points thanks to this video.
Handy hubby points?! You got those as well?!! Cool!
Joe :0
The tube was too deep and it was siphoning water into the bowl. Fixed it. Thanks, Joe.
Way to go with making the repair! You rock! Joe :0
i cant freaking believe it...such a simple fix...i just tried that on my toilet and bam its fixed as well..it been making that dripping sound for YEARS and now its A ok...thanks JOE!!!!!!!
So awesome to hear you got it fixed. Yes!!
@Mrsprstewart Did you replace the water fill valve with the kind I show here? You should be able to adjust the float so you will have less water in the tank. The water should be an inch lower than the overflow pipe. How high is your water in the tank? Sounds like your float needs to be adjusted. Joe :0
Thanks Joe. My toilet has been having an internal leak for a month. Will try that.
+Jhon Adams Great. Let me know if it works for you!
Thanks for putting this up. I knew of 2 of the 3, but did not know about the siphon from the filler tube. Thanks!
+Indiana Joe Great job for learning something new today! Thanks for letting me know & hopefully it will help you out with your toilet..
Joe :0
Wow! Glad you were able to find the issue. Way to go!
Joe :0
Great job! Thanks for sticking with it. I knew you could do it!
That is an excellent idea! Why didn't I think of it? Keep those tips & suggestions a'comin! Joe :0
Awesome job! Thanks for the message...
Joe :0
The moment I shortened the tube stoped leaking....I have done a bit of toilet repair and I did this one to myself. Thanks ...
Great job! Way to go with figuring it out. You just learned something new! Joe :0
Dude you are the man! Joe ;0
Dude!!!!!! Thank you so much! It was the dam fill valve! It was too deep. I had no idea that could leak! Thank you!!!!!!!!!! Was making me nuts haha
Steven Asbury Ha! Awesome that you got it figured out! Way to go!!
Thanks, Fixed my problem. The hose was siphoning off the top water because the level was too high. Thanks.
+dasdrums Way to go with finding the issue. Nice going! Joe :0
Cool !! Sometimes that is the issue. Way to go with finding it & making the repair! Joe :0
Thanks for the info. The bowl fill hose was to long cut some off now it works great.
Nice job with the repair. Just a little know how will go far. Now you know...!
Thanks for your informative message!
is this what makes the toilet make sounds like its running? Are you going to show us how you do it?
Exactly my problem! Thanks for the instruction and the heads up!
Cheers!
Good job for finding your particular issue! Joe :0
great video! my filling tube was too far into the vertical pipe, problem solved. I was about to remove the tank and go buy more parts.
Awesome job with finding this video then! Nice work....
@nutier Thanks for taking a few moments to send me your comment. I appreciate it. Joe :0
Joe :0
Joe, I think I have the same toilet and problem as the video. Was yours the gasket (it has that unusual rubber triangle underneath right)?
Joe :0
Awesome! My problem was the fill valve pushed too far down the refill tube! Thank you!!
Awesome to hear for sure. Nice going!
Wow I am a clean freak but that toilettank sure looks clean like new or is it a new appliance anyway apart from that another useful typ for us ladies when the hubby has two left hands and we get to do this odd job again :=)) Happy Easter xoxo
You don't sound too sure. I need help today. Thanks for your video. I'll keep researching untill I'm confident on what I need to buy.
Yes there are always lots of ways a toilet can be leaking & not all toilets will be leaking at the very same place. What did you end up finding?
Thanks. This did the trick!
Awesome. Thanks for letting VideoJoe Know!
Nice info for sure. Thanks for stopping by!
👍👍
Thanks so much for your thumbs up!
didnt think of the 2nd thing ,,, and well it worked .. ty
So awesome to hear! Thanks for stopping by!
Love the double take @ 30 seconds!
Ha! I thought I would edit that out but then at the last second I decided to leave it in. Hope you're enjoying the videos! Joe :0
How old is your toilet? Does it have the same type of ball floa I show in this video?...or something else? If you lift the arm manually, can you get the water to stop? It might be time to replace the water fill valve unit. Joe :0
@ourkids12341 Thanks again for continuing to watch my videos. I make 'em, you watch 'em!
Any thoughts or suggestions?
the 2nd thing worked thank you!
Awesome job...way to go....you did it!
Hey Joe, don't know if you're there or not. BUT....I think that it's the gasket that's leaking in my toilet....can I just dry it out inside and use some caulking around the gasket. It's an older toilet, and probably will be replaced in a few years. Thanks for any help.
Ha! I would highly not recommend you trying to use caulking on your leaking gasket. You are better off to replace it. Good luck! Joe :0
Go ahead & try it then & let me know if it holds! Maybe you can get talk to the maintenance man & see if he can't help you out.... Joe :0
Doesn't sound normal but not all toilet brands are created equal. What did you end up doing in the end?
Damn if you didn't nail it. It was the stupid tube down that pipe too far. Thanks for saving me a whole lot of aggravation.
Ha! Just because I'm an average "joe" doesn't mean I don't know a thing or two.... Thanks for taking time out to send me your message! Joe :0
On your #2 reason how does the tube siphon when there is no water in the overflow tube?
It's a mystery never to be known but I swear it happens all the time. Just read some of the comments & I know for a fact as it happened to me too! Thanks for stopping by!
what a clean tank.....the inside of my toilet tank looks like a dirty smelly junkyard.
If the gasket between the tank and bowl was leaking, the water would run down the outside of the toilet bowl onto the floor. It would not leak into the bowl itself as stated. Now if the flapper was leaking, that would leak into the bowl.
I would say you could be correct but then on other toilets it could just leak into the bowl without leaking onto the floor as I have seen it happen.
I NICE VID JOE
Thanks_mine must be the 3rd. Leaking probably needed to replace gasket under flapper
Nice job with the fix yo!
Learn to be simple and brief
Ha! That's my life story. It's a work in progress. I'm trying to be better. Thanks for your input. Much appreciated! Joe :0
number 2 was the issue for me also...........................a plumber installed the overflow incorrectly and it was syphoning water into the bowl. For the month after the repair my water bill trebled
Wow! Nice job for finding my video then for sure!
Thanks
Thanks for checking out this video!
I received some dye tablets from my city office. The water turned blue. I connected the clip and replaced the hose. The water turned blue again. I don't have the traditional flapper the mechanism raises up and re-seats itself. Any suggestions?
Not sure about those as I have never worked on them. Did you ever get it figured out?
Just sent you some questions. "Fill" me in! & we'll get this figured out. Joe :0
Please tell me exactly what you think your issue is so I can help you further. Thanks Joe :0
Seems highly unlikely to me...but not impossible.
thank you.
Thanks for stopping by...
Your presentation is of primary grade school level. To reserve my level of sanity, I had to shut you down! LOL
Joe :0
+Arbknight Let me know what you find out. Joe :0
I going to call you Mario from now on
Anthony Harris Ha! I hope that's a good thing!!!? Thanks for checking out my videos! Joe :0
Try keeping in mind we are not 8 year olds and you are not Mister Rogers!
I'm not?!!
I put food coloring in the tank to see where it leaks
Well done.. Fill tube too low. Saved money and my marriage. She no longer lets me "fix" plumbing problems. Long story.
+tomabe01 At least the marriage has been saved....!
just this morning I overflew the toilet and most of the water flooded my bathroom and the floor leaked below and flooded the kitchen floor.
uh oh....hope you got your toilet fixed. stop eating so much! :0
You talk to much. Get to the point already......
+roger brambila I know. It was informative but I do agree. And my wife yelled the same thing from the next room "He talks way too much!" :) Anyway, nobody is perfect.
