That is a bow tie retaining clip just like the ones on a Husqvarna made riding mower back in the day MTD made riding mowers had the height adjustment and blade engagement lever as one piece

Yes, those old mtd's with the single handle were a real PIA. sometimes even the correct mtd belt would still not work correctly.

@@ridingmowerking I had a powr craft limited edition mower with the single stage height adjustment and blade engagement lever All in one it was a pia when you had it disengaged and the.height lever would just drop without any notice at all 😕😔😡😠🤬
