You are so right, great video. I have definitely been an all of those scenarios that you described.

Menus on the wall are the worst. I do just tend to get my phone and using the magnifier but I definitely understand the awkward feeling.
Thank you for the shoutout by the way 😊

I agree. I hate when I go anywhere and can't see the whole menu. If I have a friend with me, I can ask "what's on the menu?" but instead of reading it, they usually ask me "what do you want?" It's very possible they could be skipping over something I'd be interested in ordering.

What’s worse is when you ask if there’s a large print or Braille menu, the staff act like they have no clue what you’re asking about. (I can’t possibly be the first blind customer to ever walk into their establishment) With extremely strong reading glasses, I can see a standard print menu, but my boyfriend can’t see any of it at all. Starbucks is a nightmare. Even trying to use my monocular, I can barely see the menu behind the counter. So, I pretty much walk up to the counter and say, “I’m very tired. What’s the strongest coffee you guys sell?” My white cane I hope is a clue why I don’t look up as I ask that.
I agree with every point you made 100%

A very good video Karey with very good subject. I have always asked the employee to read the entire menu when it is on the wall. Just so they become aware that people like me exist and we enjoy eating out like every one else. I also say yes, when a restaurant server asks me if I would like a braille menu. I don’t read braille, but I think it is important that they understand that blind people appreciate accommodations and I will except them whenever they are offered. Besides, they don’t know that I can’t Braille, they only know that they assisted a blind person who is out eating at their restaurant. LOL!

That's awesome! We need more people like you. ☺️ My husband and I are the same way. But you know what if kind of annoying?when I do read the large print menu, they tell me that certain items are no longer available on there. ️☹️this is why I really like it when they have it online. That way they can keep it updated for everybody. And I can also check out the menu before we even get there.

Yes! This is so true! I have to ask my husband or family/friends to read the menu for me or ask for a to-go menu. It would be awesome if all restaurants were required to have large print/braille menus!

Absolutely. But I also think they should have everything always updated on the internet so we can check it on our phones!! I know someone trying to work to make braille menus as well. :)

Totally agree! I also think having an app where updated menus of all restaurants would be neat. I wonder how time consuming that would be lol

Thanks Tonie! Yes, it's harder for us since both of us are blind. LOL. Best wishes for your next restaurant adventure.

Ask if they have a take-out menu. Most Chinese restaurants have a stack of them on the counter near the cash register.

Yeah, the problem is that a lot of the time other places don't. ☹️ But that's a really good tip if it is a Chinese restaurant. 👍
