Let’s remember that boys and girls can absolutely show the same traits, boys can present like the “girl” stereotype and girls can present as the “boy” stereotype. Forgetting this can cause a lot of misdiagnosis and ableism .
True! Once I heard presentations by females on the spektrum - I always thought of my son. And last year he got diagnosed. I believe it would have helped if there were considered as types.
I'm female and on the spectrum and I asked my new primary doctor for a new referral for autism and he says "your not Autistic, your talking to me just fine. An you just have quirks." What should I do? I feel looked over and insignificant. I was diagnosed as an adult by a teacher of special needs, and it made my whole childhood and life make sense. But I need a proper diagnosis. Oh, I have more of the Male traits than the girl traits.
If you’re able to bypass your primary care doctor, go online and search for therapists specializing in diagnosing/counseling adults on the autism spectrum. If you must go through a primary for a referral, find a new one. If you can’t find a new one (which I know is difficult sometimes if you have insurance limitations), see if they will refer you to a therapist for another reason, and then discuss with that therapist what the real issue is.
@@bakerfritz4681 Thanks, I will be seeing a new therapist in May an I can discus it with her. Unfortunately because I don't have insurance I'm at the mercy of state care. It is what it is.
Gender identity and expression originates in the brain and is more complex than is taught in public schools or anywhere you’re taking a general science.
Hi dear Sir, is hair pulling when overwhelmed a trait? Selective mutism as a wee child? Only eating white foods? Hearing dogs Bark 9 miles away? Hearing yourself swallow or move eyes. Not kidding, very legit Q? Thanks... I know very little, hence finding you. Your channel seems fab so far. I wish teachers years ago hadn't labelled those as odd, or attention seekers. I've heard the offensive word Malinger. Charming... not. I find this shocking. Blessings and Peace ✌

Yeah I think they should be categorised like type a or type b rather than boy/girl symptoms.

As a woman with Aspergers, thank you for spreading so much information and awareness in your channel.
the uk definitely seems to be leading the way in autism awareness and reform
Wish I could understand what she was saying... Her connection wasn't that great. :(

At what age do people normally get diagnosed?
There is no set age. It’s best to get it done whilst one is young so they get the full support.
Most people get diagnosed within 1 or two years after being born. But it’s possible not to be diagnosed until adulthood
I was 7
