It truly shocked me on how different these two bikes are. What trim are you getting and why?

I bought the 24 ATAS ES for the gas tank and smaller front wheel. I come from the world of motocross, I have other bikes to satisfy my off road needs

@@BEAST5409xbl agree, heck most AT’s see mainly road, and the way fire roads anyway.

@2wheels.are.better.than4 well I can answer this question now that I went out and traded my Transalp on a base AT. 😄
The AT is much better than the TA. However, the AT really reminds me of the Transalp, so I would consider the Transalp to be a baby AT. If cost isn't a problem with you, I'd spring for thr AT. If you're trying to remain economical, go with the Transalp. You can't go wrong

I’m getting the base model, manual transmission, with that sweet auto-blip quickshifter.

Honda should have made them both same base price. One with 19 and another 21 inch wheels, one with lower suspension travel and another with higher. And from that base they should have added possibility of adding what rider wishes for increase in function/price.
Now it's like that for majority of riders (road riding) it's just much more expensive to get a more focused bike.
    That's really what I don't like about Honda's politic.
Same thing they did with Transalp which I almost bought. It has tubed tires and no cruise control although it's more road focused bike. In order for Transalp not to undercut the sales of Africa Twin, of course.
For those reasons even if I want to add couple of grand for Africa twin (15k) it's just not good enough as I need a few more grand to get a road focused Africa. Really bad in my book.
I actually almost gave up on Honda and thinking of sticking to Tracer 7 GT as it gives lots of stuff for less.
Hoping Honda will change it's approach in the future.

I am glad they didn't go the way of BMW...with all the option packages. I personally appreciate the 2 different models and all-in pricing (aside from some bolt on accessories).

@@coolhandchunkBMW is a "premium" brand for rich people... They do the same with their cars... Base car is like 40 grand but when you add basic tech in and some other stuff to make the car normal and not naked, you look at the price and suddenly you have yourself a 70k car... Its disgusting and predatory. Audi is even worse!

The Adventure Sport has the higher comfort seat as standard. The standard AT has the standard seat. I have the comfort seat on my 24 ATes and the comfort seat is the way to go ref comfort (also have 20mm bar risers).

Could not get any 2024 remaining here in Canada. I ordered 2025 AS DCT. Why DCT? No idea, I just want to try it.
I ordered AS because I like the idea of the 19" wider front tire. Also, lowered suspension and fork travel is better for pavement. I spend 90% on road. More weight does not concern me, I come from a heavy Sport Tourer full of staff.. I will be adding easy 50lb of extra weight to my Africa for long distance adventure trips. Also, full crush bars + rear ruck + Denali lights + centre stand ++++.. Is at least 40lb... My bike (fully accessorized) will be 300kg/670lb total weight + heavy rider (100kg/224lb).
I rented Suzuki Vstrom 800DE. With all extra luggage + my weight it needed full suspension upgrade ($$$). Then I tried Africa 2024 AS Manual and was amazed by how it handled all the extra weight (I always place heavy items down low for precise weight distribution). In my biased opinion new Africa is an amazing machine if you dont want to spend extra premium on European brands and want legendary Honda reliability. If Africa did not exist I would have had to spend another 15ish K Canadian maple dollars to get a GS1250 or 1300...

Honestly I would slap a radiator cover on a Tracer 7, new tyres and that bike would by weight simply beat the ATas offroad. But if you really want some fun you could get an MT09 for the road AND a CFMoto 450mt for those fire roads. Spare change to be had aswell compared to the ATas. I bet you smile more with those.

How do you think the AT base model would be for touring. What are the disadvantages for touring compared to the AS? Perhaps the narrow seat would be uncomfortable?

I have the 2024 AT1100L ES, I am 5 ft 11”, 32” inside leg, I have the following OEM and Puig accessories fitted, Comfort seat (which is thicker and adds additional height), upper and lower deflector kits, centre stand and the Puig MULTI-ADJUSTABLE VISOR 2.0 fixed with screws, and 20mm bar risers. I find this to be great for touring, and I prefer the smaller tank. The Puig multi-adjustable visor 2.0 in conjunction with the adjustable screen the bike now comes with, and the OEM deflector kits, is brilliant (bearing in mind this is an adventure bike and not a goldwing). I got the screw through screen one, as I prefer the permanent mounting solution over the clip-on version. The ES suspension is plush, even in the Tour mode.
Just a shame Honda didn’t fit the AT, ATAS and the NT with shaft drive.

Not having tubeless ready wheels out of the gate on the base model feels like a scam at the price point. Tubeless is not even close to new technology, nor does running tubes provide any benefits in today's day and age, so why is it being excluded?
