Your video of building the Tester 68 inspired me to start small, as I fell into a rabbit hole of custom keyboards without even trying it. I literally ordered Tester 68 with some cheaper keycaps and gateron pro yellow switches (as they're factory lubed, noticed it being mentioned in the comments under your video) to try it out at first. So thank you for sharing your own adventures in this hobby, looking forward to your future videos!
the milky yellow now costs only 0.15$ ( where I live, new stock prelube ) while the jelly black is still around 0.25$, so I think the answer is clear. Also, using different plate material or taping + pe foam modding will make jelly black seemingly "clacky", so if you're new and want to get into mechanical keyboard, just split well your money on keycaps & keyboard kit, focus more at typing experience and let your next build decide which kind of sound it will have. eventually you will know whats your preference and find a perfect endgame build although it can be very very cheap.
Loved this video. You didn't over- complicate it and make a short video 30 minutes long! I'll be sticking around for sure as I'm starting this hobby too! Subbed😁
Excellent video! It was so clear, detailed switches aspect, pricing, lubed vs unlubed, typing sound test, how you feel about them all in under 2.5 minutes! Appreciate your effort in making this video!
I found your video with a random research about keyboard and I have to say: Wow ! With such a nice quality I thought it was a big channel and was surprised when seeing your subs, you deserve more ! Thanks for the video, here, one more sub for you !
I got some milky yellow pros, awesome switches, come pre-lubed and shorter stem then regular yellows. Love them. But I wanna try jelly blacks sooner or later.
how can a spring have a weight of 50g but the whole switch only 1.5g? This parameter describes the weight needed to compress the spring, not the weight of the spring.
Yes. The weight of the spring is referring to the strength require to compress the spring fully and the weight of the switch is referring to the entire weight of the spring in Grams.
Milky yellows sound nicer to me, the Jelly blacks lack a bit of character and just seems too muted. It may also be because of the way that you have lubed the switches as well. But personally it may be be cause of my personal preference. I am a Hyperglide Black on Aluminium enjoyer with that higher pitched clack.
Did you do any modding to the tester 68? And if you did, which mod did you feel had the most effect on thockiness? I currently have the same barebones board so I wanna get some tips
I got gat yellows for my first budget keyboard, and I'm considering getting them again for my first real build. They just feel so smoooooth and sound great
Gateron Silver Pro is factory lubed. I have it on my AK816 pro. Very smooth. I also have Akko jelly black and pink on my 3086. They are pretty ok stock also, but I prefer the Gateron Silver.
i love my Silver Pros, but they aren’t exactly “thoccy”. it’s higher pitched in tone and very smooth. but it’s great for gaming bc if the shorter travel and faster actuation
Tips: never buy akko switches Jelly black is scratchy af, jelly white is even scratchier. cream yellow is the ktt kang white recolor with higher price, tactile switches like ocean blue or lavender is so bad (lavender sh!tty bump and experience, ocean blue leaf ping&spring ping af). The only good akko switches is matcha, but it is not worth the money now.
cream yellow, cream blue arguably the best budget linear, tactile switch.. you can say about ktt rose. but kang white/cream yellow is cheaper than rose/strawberry and the difference between them is barely noticeable..
really depends, it's all personal preference anyways. akko switches are fine to me. A much better tip would be to just listen sound test videos since it's the only way you can figure out if it's good or not.
if this man heard my keyboard I just know he would just ship me everything I need to make my own keyboard and force me to make it so humanity would never have to hear my keyboard again. (and if you're wondering, they're really horrible blue switches, the offbrand style)
Gateron Oil King, end of story. THE best linear ever made bar none. It is on the top tier of expensive for Gaterons but they are sooooo worth it. Next up on my top list, the Gateron Red Pro switches and last the Akko Matcha Green lubed and filmed.
jelly black sound quieter. Also, how can one get rid of that echo that you have when typing? I have the same problem with a Phantom keyboard. I’ve tried double tape mod and it already had foam inside but still get that echo sound. I would probably need a better quality foam or something.
I just got into the keyboard hobby, and bought a Newman GM610. It is completely native, and i might be getting new switches soon. I was planning on getting alpacas, and my stock switch is the gateron red. Let me know some budget suggestions for switches or keycaps.
I've always said that the best "budget" linear are the Gatereon yellows/milky yellows. Great price, super smooth, reputable manufacturer and has a nice bit of thock to it. Now these switches are not budget per say but if you are looking for some real THOCK, the Boba linear thocks are incredible. They are hands down my new favorite. Second to those would be the Gatereon Oil Kings which are similar in price to the bobas so again not "budget" but 100% worth checking out if you're looking for thock.
debatable akko has some crazy good switches for less than 25c, like the cream yellows (20c per switch btw) paired with the right board it can be so good. Ktt switches are also great they have the kang white for 27c per switch its actually crazy
it's still all personal preference. you could even argue that the scratchyness of akko won't be that noticeable if you focused doing one thing. or you could argue that all of them sound the same which is true since the "thock" will only happen to the keyboard itself not *just* the switches. Like i said it's all personal preference anyways (and yes i know this is 1 year old already). If you want a budget switch but don't trust online shopping services (ex: amazon - potential damage loss or if you live in the philippines lazada/shoppee who also has cases of damage packaging) then these switches, akko, are purely fine. It's all in the end personal preference and the situation that person will be in.

Your mic is too near or at least lower the volume. Imagine what people would hear if they are actually typing. Emulate that and adjust your volume.
His mic is a USB based mic. U can tell from the static.
Randomly stumbled on this video, looking forward to more content (THOCK)
Also like the box type switch cause keys are more solid and in place
are you using the Sudotack ST800? if you are, how do you make your mic sound good? i have the same mic

My keyboard has the tes68 with jelly blacks and pbt keycaps. I was wondering if you've modded the keyboard in the soundtest at all
I did do a foam mod but that was pretty much it. I also have a video on it.
will the cherry profile key caps have no problem with the milky yellows?
nope, cherry keycaps will only have issues with north facing leds
Watching vids for a while! ❤❤
there is a more prevalent pinging sound in the milky yellows than in the jelly blacks and that hurts something inside of me.
do you need to charge the tester 68?
I can’t even fill the scratch from a silver gaming Akko switch
What is the best 3 pin linear switch for gaming with a thocky sound.
Are they better than g3ms saphire or epomaker wisteria ?
Thx so mutch😊❤

I want a thock /deep sounding tactile switch. Wich ehould i get? It needs to be budget and shipped to EU

for my choice is jelly black lubed, why because it had box stem so less woble
Do all thocky switches have to be linear?
Not at all, it just happens that the best budget THOCKY switches are linear

Frankenswitches Gateron Dust Proof Milky Blacks. Check out ZZ Keyboards my second channel for that video.
what are your keycap name and profile???
Im new to keyboards so is anyone here that can explain to me what "lubed" means?
It's what it implies, you open up the switches and apply lube to the spring and other parts. You can google lube guides on how to do it.
