I did time aswell I startedtattooing in a traditional shop and it was difficult to get used to coils and magnums etc but now I'm at a point in my career were I do my own style of tattooing and now I use the vlad blad 4.0 ultron pen version 2 and comfortable with it it's crazy u opened up a shop and u barely being off paper that's crazy

I’ve been using the packer For a month now and just crazy amazing great in shading smooth saturated and the line work took me a bit time to get used to. But over the packer is one of the best machine. It increase my tattoo style I usually do black and grey and it just step up my game. You gotta try it. Unbelievable. Thanks for the advice brother. Do you think it works with any 4 stoke machine you could get smooth shading bro.. like a flux
I use a 3.7 and I've recently turned down to just above operating voltage and its taken me to new heights. Heard oli talking about it on a stream and went for it. huge difference in my work.
Hows this work with bigger liners?
@@glassmaw_generally I use a 4.2 packer or the 5.0 liner at lower volts for lining. 6.5 ish. Works great with larger liners. Anything less than 4.0 usually tends to struggle with larger liner groupings
Brilliant insight, I'm glad it's not just me learning all the time with different machines, volts speed etc.. The packer may well be my next purchase, I like running machines at lower voltage anyway.

I use the packer myself , 7.2 for lining and 5.5 for my shading mainly with the 3rl
Thank you for your insight! Today I held a tattoo maschine in my hands for the first time and I realized quite a drastic difference about the machines ability to line and shade. This makes so much more sense now! And don’t worry, I only tortured some fake skin for fun :)

Had a small tattoo 1986 in old English, solid black. It was AMAZING!!! It packed ink better than running it higher around 6-7v I finished the tattoo really fucking fast.

The lowest ive run my bishop packer is 6v and cant imagine running at 4v? But will try it. I prefer the bishop wand shader at 9v

What’s up Oliver! Love this video. About to get a bishop machine, I’m still on the fence whether or not to get a packer or the shader. I’m leaning towards the packer, I work fast as well, I’ll keep you updated on how it works out. Thank you for all your teaching and tips and most importantly your artwork.
I recommend going for the packer and maybe getting a cheaper lower stroke for the shades in case you have lots of shading projects and you don't mind using two machines. The packer lines really well and packs the same, and so It'll improve/reduce your time spent on skin alot on non shading jobs.
Nowadays, going for wireless batteries helps with using two machines anyways.
@@rhad333 i can't use it, i don't know whats wrong with me but the bishop keep spitting ink all over the place so i have to reduce voltage, or the needle depth..nothing really change i am not able to line quick and clean...can figure what voltage is good for this one

Been using the Cheyenne nova unlimited 3.5 and I’m looking for something 4+ for engraving black fine line type work. think I might give that packer a go and use the Cheyenne for shading. Thanks for the video

The motors are different in the two. The packers recommended volts are 6-8. The shader is 8-10. The motor in the shader is weaker so it bogs a bit
The shader is basically the bishop Phantom in the Wand platform. The packer and the liner have the same motors
Bishop liner for everything shade and color pack at 5.5 super fast healing.

I ordered Sol Nova Unlimited 3.5, but they made mistake and sent me 4.0 instead, I was feeling down because I wanted all-rounder machine, and it made me feel bad a bit, but after watching this video I think I can adjust to it eventually and do smooth shading with it. Thanks !
Same! Although I bought it purposely and started to regret choosing it over the 3.5mm. Definitely gonna give this a try.
@@CrayonCats Well, I just changed my mindset about it, like, I got good machine, it's up to me to learn to use it and adapt to it. Sure, each machine got purpose, but it's not like we got more than 4.0m, it's fine, and I think it could even be better once we get used to it
I use the 5.0 for everything, try exploring its full Volt range and the two modi (steady and responsive).
And by everything I mean delicate bng microrealism to big fat colour pieces
i use INKEZEE green glide to prevent redness

I bought the Thomas Carli Sunskin Stilo with the 4.2 stroke, for me it is really adjusting. But i am getting there. Great video🤙🏻👍🏻💪🏻👌🏻
I have a cheyenne sol terra 4mm stroke and unsure about it anyone using it have any advice
I use an arrow brand tattoo pen and I usually run it between 3-4.5 volts. It's a 3.5 stroke. I'm kinda loving it
That’s insanely low. Some machines don’t even run at less than 4 volts.
Going to have to try it out with my Packer. I fell that the Shader always heals perfect because of minimal damage though and always lean that way when doing B&G. I run it quite high at 9-9.5 for shader.
I used to run it at that, but even better outcome when lowering volts
I too have been running my shader (sol nova) at 9-9.3. So what do u think would be the sweet spot to avoid less redness?
@@juicyfied87 I could be wrong but I think most redness comes from stroke length and the raking of the skin. Basically you get redness from damage and from the needle travel while it is going in one place and traveling to the other. Not actually snagging but on a very small degree it is. Watched a video of owner of bishop talking about why if the stroke is anything lower that 3.0 it pretty much always catches because there is not enough travel for the needle to get out of the way.
So then you have the component of how hard your machine hits and the stroke length and that can also cause redness from just impact damage to the skin. There is a sweet spot between your hand speed the stroke of your machine and how hard it hits. I don't get a lot of redness myself but I have almost too light of a hand sometimes and that limits damage but can make my tattoo's heal too light every now and again.
Also i feel like the angle of your machine can help or hurt these Variables.
@@kendred7984 make sense. I find my self working a bit faster at high volts. And slower when they are lower. Don’t get me wrong my tattoos don’t come out bloody red lol. When applying light grey wash I get that soft redness not like some that I’ve seen that look just painful. So I know I’m doing something wrong. Because I’ve seen some light grey washes stick really nice and no redness.
Do you use it at 4.2 - 4.5 for lining as well? I've been using it at 6.3 - 6.5 v
I really don't understand some of these comments. Unless the motors in different machines are identical the voltage cannot be compared. If 1 machine works well at lower volts that doesn't mean another machine with a different motor will. It depends on RPMs, torque, stroke etc... The main thing is technique and using the correct hand speed and pressure with the machine you're using.
This is interesting, I’ve been wondering about that bc I use a brushless 4.2 stroke machine & the healing of some tattoos have been weird. I just saw that the bishop packer doesn’t have brushless motor. What would you run a brushless 4.2 stroke machine at for packing black voltage wise?

I wonder if it's the pressure/hand speed we are using with the higher strokes, Aston Reynolds lines with wand liner at 8.5 which sounds like madness till you try it and back off the pressure. If you study his videos it barely looks like he is adding any pressure but his speed is fast, I noticed he would answer people's questions about the voltage months again saying it 8.5 now he says 6 volts but has the same hand speed , I think people fucked up some pieces and he had to edit himself because all the old questions about the voltage are gone, These higher strokes are no joke, but I wonder if you have learned with a 3.5 stroke you are used to that pressure, so you aren't adjusting for it ..Hence why you like lining with the shader .. Hard to say but love your insights Oliver , I hope bishop reaches out to you and shows some love .. Take care!

I slowed my machine down to 5v using 4.0 stroke and no matter what I do. I can’t get same smooth effects as using 3.5 stroke. I don’t want to use 2 machines again. Is the trick in the pressure ?
I hope to find out as well. I ordered 3.5 sol nova, but they gave me 4.0 and I can't send it back because some reasons. So I have to adjust myself to it
When you got it I mentioned that to you and you can use the liner to color packing
What voltage to you run the wand liner? For lining and color packing?
About 6 to six volts I guess depending on your hand speed and what style you are doing!

I felt like using the shader wand would make the tattoos heal almost too light and the solid blacks would not heal dark. It’s too soft, which is a shame because the bishop v6 was a 3.5 and that would heal amazing.

That was something my mentor always told me LOWER YOUR VOLTAGE AND SLOW DOWN ( and that was back in 92’ when all we had was coil machines ) Love your work brother keep the great work Super fan over here .

My new combo is Dan Kubin V 7 for lining or dark packing and Cheyenne Unio for med blending and soft shading. The down fall is that both are still wired but it gets the job done fast. Especially the versatile of the Unio.

Why you go away from using a 2.5 stroke bro? Your work was amazing with it as well. I've never tried tattooing with a 2.5 but I've been curious about it.
Just very hard to get the ink to stay in as your going over with so many layers! Also have to use a higher volt, more chance to overwork the skin

Even if you got all three for the price of one it’s still a massive rip off and a slap to the tattoo community. Bishops been around for a long time and it’s astonishing to watch them do this bullshit.

using a 5.0 mm machine stroke to shade is doable...but it might not be smooth...just see if that type of shading suits the work youre doing

I don't know what are you talking about.It is just a preference. I have the packer for more then 2 years and I do everithing with it. Lining like a beast and smooth shadings always on 6.7 -7 volts.
Yeah the packer is unreal machine at low volts especially! The higher the stroke machine the lower the voltage! I run the packer at 4v-4.5v

Yes for Exo 4.0 8v is a bit high. Tho there are many artists that use it at 8. But for smooth shades and esp if you’re using grey wash which is easier to put in skin, if you try 5.5-6 volts it would be much smoother.

Your shit is red cos you use thin washes and you barely saturate the skin outside of blacks. David Vega uses white washes. They're thicker. They can be packed. They have more depth and allow for smoother transitions that actually hold. You don't need a 4.2mm stroke for washes. It's overkill. Even 3.5 is long for Black n Grey. Slow speed, high stroke for colour/packing. This isn't a secret but actually a method used for decades.
