A couple of things you missed Sean when you load these bikes up with a passenger and all the gear you need a little more power to get moving. Sport tourers are amazing for crunching the miles out when you want to get somewhere. I do 500-600 miles a day when touring, I have tried cruisers and to be honest they look cool but it's much more comfortable on a sport tourer for covering big mileage and the gas mileage is just amazing 45-50 MPG.
I've got one, had it a few years, after 3 Pan Europeans and an FJR1300, and this is the best of the bunch, with a lot more useful functions on it. A truly lovely bike to ride.
I have an '09 K1300GT, have put just over 20K miles on it over the last 4 years. Most of the miles from touring, I love it, amazing power, comfort, great luggage and good handling for a large touring bike. The only maintenance issue was a shaft drive seal that started to leak on a trip to Calgary AB. The BMW dealer in Calgary replaced it for just over $100 USD (great service there). Other than that the bike has been reliable and a joy to ride.
I have a 2009, it is the nicest, best bike I’ve ever owned and ridden. It has all the options that allow you ride it every day to work or go to the store or go for a long trip. It’s got tons of power, feels super safe and stable at all speeds. Even has an adjustment for the headlight alignment if you are carrying two people and luggage. Only downside is expensive maintenance and you need specialized tools to repair or fix it.
ESA is electronic suspension adjustment, there are 3 modes comfort, normal and sport, plus u can change another setting for the load, either solo rider, solo with luggage, and driver plus passenger and luggage. The bike has abs and traction control (ie. you can’t do burnouts on it) but you can pretty much crank on the throttle and the bike will go. I love mine. Cuz it’s got the heated seats & grips and full wind protection you get a long riding season. I live in Canada and I can ride from April to December if there is no snow. It is a very practical bike that has all the performance you can ever want. I ride it every day in the warmer months cuz I only have one car and the wife uses the car. One great thing is the bike is quiet at idle and street speeds and cruising, but if you want to rev it up and gooooo it roars like a beast! It’s got like VTEC or something. Another thing is the bike is big and very safe looking, an “old man” or mature rider bike, so cops don’t even bother when u zip by, probably cuz they know they have no chance to catch up too ;) I took it to the track and u cans get it up to 250-260km/h easily. Very smooth.
I have a K1300 GT. Amazing bike, my favorite of the three bikes I own. It is the Swiss Army knife if bikes. It has two personalities, mild mannered under 5k rpm. Then it goes into insane mode from 5k up. It bike is slender and light. I prefer it over the K1600GT. I am disappointed BMW quit building it.
I also own one with 30k kms. For me the perfect bike, I also own a Monster S4 but different animal. The K16GT it's a great bike but after owned one I still prefer the K13GT.
I have a 2009 I bought new. I have had lot of great tours on the bike including a 7200 mile Florida to California and back. The engine is a beast as we owners all know.

I had a K bike. Chipped and piped. zero to sixty in 2.5 and so smooth you can read license plate numbers in the rearviews at 100. First gear goes to 90mph before you hit the rev limiter
Lovely bike it is,and an improvement over the 1200 engine. Though most bikes are expensive to fix,this one is very costly too repair. If it's been maintained it should last a long time like other bike. Just BMW s are $$$$

I've owned a K1300GT for five years and the most I have spent on service was scheduled valve check/adjustment at 18K miles for just about $900. Otherwise the only other service has been scheduled maintenance of oil changes, brake pad changes.
@@PS749. he could be referring to if you don't flush your brakes and you have an ABS system it will eventually take the ABS pump out and they're about $2500 for a new one. If you keep your brake fluid flushed with DOT 4 fluid it'll probably last most of the bikes life. I guess they can get them rebuilt now for about $500 though.
I have a 2015 R 1200 RT and love it. These big bimmers are perfect for crunching miles. My last bike was a Triumph Street Triple R, and while it was a great bike, the kind of riding I want to do has changed. Still love going fast through the twistes, but I want to be able to do it all day and not suffer. The new K is a bit too big, but the 2013 looks great
Really really nice bike. Love the Remus exhaust. But be aware, this bike will cost you a lot of money at some point.. - Shaft fail, gearbox fail, bosch abs blocks fails, and the bike is pretty much put together so only bmw dealers can wrench on them..
I swapped a R1150 GS for a K1200 GT (06). My biggest gripe about the GT is that it doesn't have an overdrive sixth gear. My second biggest gripe is the weight. My third biggest gripe is that it drags the pegs too easily.
Amazing bike just leave everyone else in your mirrors til you lift. Yeah Top speed is like 160. Excellent engineering to support running those very high speeds at comfort all day long.
Nope not at all. I have an RT and it is honestly easier to work on than my previous bike a Goldwing GL1500. All the common maintenance i have done is much easier on the boxer engine. It really comes down to what you want and what you like but nothing is impossible.
@@bryananderson985 yep, I love how easy it is to Work on the Boxer Engine. Change the Plugs, no problem. Adjust the Valves, no problem. It’s like that pretty much for anything on the Bike. Who needs a BMW Service Dept. it’s the Easiest Bike I have ever owned to Work on. The only hard part on my 2006 R1200GS, is if the Clutch has a problem. Then you have to split the whole back end off the Bike. But the Clutch is so big, like out of a Car. You rarely would have a problem with it.👍

I rode a K1300S for 4 years and put a ton of miles on it, it's by far one of the fastest bikes out there. The shift assistant is a fun experience. Too bad BMW couldn't incorporate the shift assistant feature into the K1300GT. Makes no sense to me as to why they couldn't?? Also odd is that the K1300GT was still in production in Europe in 2011 yet here in the US it went away when the K1600 was released in 2010. Mystery to me...
I had traded a 2011 K1300S for a 2014 R1200RT. Totally love the RT but missed the K13S so much I purchased a 2015 Motorsport edition. Now ride both. Different weapons for different missions. Not selling either.

They al ready had the engine:) and hate it when they down tune a fast engine for “touring” Touring is the way you sit upright and hold your grips. A fast engine just makes it the second option next to the k1300s

Got rid of it Kick my ass for doing that Wish I could find another one like yours for under $8000 I think I would buy it mine was a 2013 while I had mine they came out with a six cylinder same format looked just like my 4 cylinder nice red. I have looked on line and I don't think they make them like these anymore.
I had that bike and I regret selling it fir the k 1200lt. We drove this bike from Texas to the Grand Canyon and the power was unlimited. My only complaint was the plastic prevented highway pegs, so my legs got uncomfortable during the trip. But, the power is unreal! Now, I’m going to keep my k1200lt and get s Harley! The best of both worlds!!!

Very nice machine, but I'll be keeping my '97 Cbr1100xx, I don't want anything over its 550 lb weight, and I don't need all the fancy stuff that will eventually break anyways. I commute with it daily except winter, all highway, all rush hour, it's great!
I had a 2007 K1200GT and put 130K miles on it. Love it so much, I bought a 2009 K1300GT. I have 65K miles on it right now and absolutely love it. It's a hell of a bike. I ride it everywhere and even split the lane here in California with all of the luggage on the bike. The 49L top case is a must have if you get this bike.

If governed, 125mph top speed. Ungoverned is 156mph; depends on country where it was sold. I work with a guy who has one and it will definitely go faster than 125mph (been with him when he hit 140mph and let off throttle-not on a track).
davidleoncampbell We were cruising on the A8 near Stuttgart when my pillion tapped me on the shoulder and came through the Autocom, “it’s getting a bit breezy up here. Can you slow down a bit? I can’t hold much longer!” I checked the speedo which was showing almost 150mph. Oops! Fair point! We settled on 125mph as a comfy cruising speed. This was with panniers and a duffle bag on the rear rack and the screen up. Without bags or pillion and the screen low I reckon the bike will do 165-170mph... Before anyone points this out - I know: BMW recommends not exceeding 85mph with panniers ;-)
@@jbrucksnc It does have linked braking. But when the K1300GT was introduced, BMW already stopped using the evo brakes. The k1200 GT that looks very similar to this one did have the evo system. At least that is how it was in Europe. If you pull the brake lever you should hear the servo's whining.
I agree with those who wish BMW had kept making the 12GT. My favorite bike of all time. I had a Corbin seat and a taller AeroFlow screen. Just a wonderful motorcycle. More nimble than the 16GT. If they had updated all the tech and kept making it, it would be in the absolute top tier of sport touring motorcycles. I made a big mistake selling it. The only thing that kept me from going back was it was a bit tall (even though I’m 6’ tall) even though it just fell into curves unbelievably well and tracked like it was on a rail. It’s also a bit heavier than my current desires dictate. I just got a 2020 R1250RS and although it’s not as fast, has no electronic windscreen or heated seat, it’s seat height is a bit lower and it’s 100lbs lighter.

No, it's too wide. Well, you could do it, but you'd be so stressed out that it'd not be worth it. You yourself would be a wreck when you arrive at your destination. Not worth it.......Yea, you could do it, but ....why do it? Get a more narrow bike for lane splitting.
Reason for big BHP in the UK is to overtake cars. so much traffic and all bikers overtake all the time. Driven in the US often and no one overtakes, even on dead straight roads. Why so many solid lines? Drives UK drivers and riders spare.
No offence Sean, but you're dismal at 0-60, you always bog down before the power of the bike bales you out. You need a couple of thou more revs before you release the clutch lever. The bike is quicker than you are. But I'm still enjoying your videos so please keep it going.

Waiting for Sean, I'd pick the R1200RT. I've owned similar to both (K1200RS, R1200S). The boxer has more "character", and servicing is easier. But it just comes down to the deal you find.

I sold the 3 hard boxes and went with Nelson Riggs soft side bags and LOVE them and the decrease in weight. I used the K1300 to travel every mountain pass in WA state and did so, then sold it for what I paid for it.
I have a 2010 k1300 GT(17,975 MIle) I bought it 5 months ago(April 2022)its very clean like brand new, and I parked the bike in the garage, I use the bike only 5 times till now and that fifth time it happened to me(clutch) but luckily the mechanic said you are very lucky because it's only a clutch hose liking oil. so I ordered a clutch hose from BMW for £135 and paid £150 to a mechanic for fixing it he told me to sell the bike because this type of bike has a clutch problem and many people complained. Anyone can advise me if should i sell it or keep it? I bought the bike for traveling in UK and euro and it works like a clock right now. I really like the bike but I'm scared if something like a clutch thing happens to me middle of nowhere.

my 71 R75/5 still rides and drives fine after unknown miles. if it breaks I can fix it with a screwdriver, a rock and electrical tape (slight exaggeration). thanks but i'll keep my money. I doubt that bike, nice as it is will be around in fifty years.

Id love to see a review of a K1200R 05-08. It basically the same engine but its more like a naked superbike

My first bike was a 02 Honda VFR V-tech. Absolutely loved it then...have it still currently and still love it!!
I sold my 02 VFR 800 & miss that V4 & single sided swing arm. Sold mine with 65k on it. I had Staintune exhaust, best sound on the planet!

These are the biggest pain in the arse bike to work on. The dry sump inclined 4 banger being the scourge of many a mechanic.
I love the sport-touring bikes and I used to do all my own work on my Concours. Really hard to do your own work on a BMW.

Very nice machine, but I'll be keeping my '97 Cbr1100xx, I don't want anything over its 550 lb weight, and I don't need all the fancy stuff that will eventually break anyways. I commute with it daily except winter, all highway, all rush hour, it's great!

I had a 2007 K1200GT and put 130K miles on it. Love it so much, I bought a 2009 K1300GT. I have 65K miles on it right now and absolutely love it. It's a hell of a bike. I ride it everywhere and even split the lane here in California with all of the luggage on the bike. The 49L top case is a must have if you get this bike.

If governed, 125mph top speed. Ungoverned is 156mph; depends on country where it was sold. I work with a guy who has one and it will definitely go faster than 125mph (been with him when he hit 140mph and let off throttle-not on a track).
davidleoncampbell We were cruising on the A8 near Stuttgart when my pillion tapped me on the shoulder and came through the Autocom, “it’s getting a bit breezy up here. Can you slow down a bit? I can’t hold much longer!” I checked the speedo which was showing almost 150mph. Oops! Fair point! We settled on 125mph as a comfy cruising speed. This was with panniers and a duffle bag on the rear rack and the screen up. Without bags or pillion and the screen low I reckon the bike will do 165-170mph...
Before anyone points this out - I know: BMW recommends not exceeding 85mph with panniers ;-)

This one does not have the power brakes. BMW stopped with those in 2007.
You dont need power brakes TRUST ME! These things have overly sensitive braking in my opinion.

It does! It's part of the linked system. Under hard front braking, it also engages the rear brakes
@@jbrucksnc It does have linked braking. But when the K1300GT was introduced, BMW already stopped using the evo brakes. The k1200 GT that looks very similar to this one did have the evo system. At least that is how it was in Europe. If you pull the brake lever you should hear the servo's whining.

I agree with those who wish BMW had kept making the 12GT. My favorite bike of all time. I had a Corbin seat and a taller AeroFlow screen. Just a wonderful motorcycle. More nimble than the 16GT. If they had updated all the tech and kept making it, it would be in the absolute top tier of sport touring motorcycles. I made a big mistake selling it. The only thing that kept me from going back was it was a bit tall (even though I’m 6’ tall) even though it just fell into curves unbelievably well and tracked like it was on a rail. It’s also a bit heavier than my current desires dictate. I just got a 2020 R1250RS and although it’s not as fast, has no electronic windscreen or heated seat, it’s seat height is a bit lower and it’s 100lbs lighter.
Sorry the 13GT! That was my bike and only made for two years.

BMW designs great toys, it just their toys' reliability and longevity is another story.
I am jealous that it is faster than my VTX 1800, but I feel better that the repair costs and maintenance is much higher than mine. Those facts have to console me, I suppose.

Their longevity will probably beat most others, these bikes run for EVER. They can run into reliability issues though.

No, it's too wide. Well, you could do it, but you'd be so stressed out that it'd not be worth it. You yourself would be a wreck when you arrive at your destination. Not worth it.......Yea, you could do it, but ....why do it? Get a more narrow bike for lane splitting.

Reason for big BHP in the UK is to overtake cars. so much traffic and all bikers overtake all the time. Driven in the US often and no one overtakes, even on dead straight roads. Why so many solid lines? Drives UK drivers and riders spare.

No offence Sean, but you're dismal at 0-60, you always bog down before the power of the bike bales you out. You need a couple of thou more revs before you release the clutch lever. The bike is quicker than you are. But I'm still enjoying your videos so please keep it going.

Waiting for Sean, I'd pick the R1200RT. I've owned similar to both (K1200RS, R1200S). The boxer has more "character", and servicing is easier. But it just comes down to the deal you find.

@@billmelcher625 I bought an '09 K1300GT and a '13 1200GSA. I had them both but kept the GSA and it's my daily commuter. I sold the 3 hard boxes and went with Nelson Riggs soft side bags and LOVE them and the decrease in weight. I used the K1300 to travel every mountain pass in WA state and did so, then sold it for what I paid for it.

I have a 2010 k1300 GT(17,975 MIle)
I bought it 5 months ago(April 2022)its very clean like brand new, and I parked the bike in the garage, I use the bike only 5 times till now and that fifth time it happened to me(clutch) but luckily the mechanic said you are very lucky because it's only a clutch hose liking oil.
so I ordered a clutch hose from BMW for £135 and paid £150 to a mechanic for fixing it
he told me to sell the bike because this type of bike has a clutch problem and many people complained.
Anyone can advise me if should i sell it or keep it?
I bought the bike for traveling in UK and euro and it works like a clock right now.
I really like the bike but I'm scared if something like a clutch thing happens to me middle of nowhere.
I'm considering buying a bmw. Are these bikes reliable?
