The Lenovo Legion Go. This is a portable Windows 11 Gaming PC with AMD’s Ryzen Z1 Extreme processor and AMD RDNA 3 graphics. This means you get powerful gaming in a little package with an 8.8 inch QHD+ touchscreen display with a 144hz refresh rate. But how does it actually stack up against some pretty beefy competitors?

Have had mine since launch and still love it
I watched loads of reviews and decided to buy one because I wanted a handheld with a bigger screen and since having it I use it all the time
Is amazing bro the dream handheld device
I've had mine since it came out and I love it. Battery life is not great but overall gaming is just butter especially rpg games. I play Helldivers 2 on this and it's been awesome!
It is always nice to see people’s different choices when it comes to these handhelds and how other people are viewing them other than handheld focused super nerdy channels I guess.
I think whatever you choose you will have a nice time.
Perfect for Dragon's Dogma 2!
I have to say, having all of your game launcher in one app does seem nice.
Hi friend!
You can do that via Steam too regardless of display size. I really should learn how to set it up myself but I've certainly admired others setups using, I think it's the big picture mode.
Nice practical review. Loved the couch references as that seems to be where I’m doing the majority of my evening gaming lately 😅
Saaaame!
Actually you can use it as a desktop pc if you have to. I do so when I'm away from home and need a pc. I hook it up to a monitor and use a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard and it can run just about any windows program and app.
I like the Legion Go, its my go to handheld but it is NOT lightweight. The reason Shannon says so is because when using it over a table, your arms rest on top of the table, not being able to feel the weight of the Go in your forearms. However, if you're in bed or on the couch while holding it, you can start to feel the stress of the weight in your forearms, feeling a little sore after a solid hour. This is also subjective depending on your workout regimen lol
I actually used it a ton when walking around, but I'm also used to holding a 15lb cat so I guess I'm buff 😂. I don't think 2 lbs is heavy, but it IS subjective.
It's not heavy if you find it heavy then you need some dumbbells not a handheld gaming device (I jest)
I use the same case as a stand when I'm in bed and it's great
For a 6’0 250lb body builder like myself that works forearms, I find it uncomfortable when I’m playing in bed.
If they can lighten it and get rid of the gimmicky buttons (scroll wheel, side buttons, etc.) this could be good.
I plug it into my swivel monitor thats hooked up to my bed 😂
Waiting for a better speced OLED version. Will also keep an eye for the next OLED Steam Deck hardware upgrade. Handheld PCs like VR are still in their baby stages. Maybe 3-5 years from now will we get comparable gaming exp to a decent rig
I hope they do OLED!!
Nvidia is supposedly cooking up a portable handheld, but given Nvidia it will probably be very expensive. Microsoft is also hinting to enter if not why would they bother to make an OS for windows handheld.
It may look like another Nintendo Switch doppelganger, but the longevity could be far less than a year, even if more handhelds were to come bearing stronger specs.
When I saw the multiple battery charge indicators, my brain really wanted it to be Zonai charge from Tears of the Kingdom.
*high fives michael*
Great review and information.
Thanks Shannon! Your review is top notch.
Thanks for sharing your review. Blessings on your day!
Thank you! You too!
I was gonna go with the ally and steam deck but that screen size is hard to pass, it's gives games better immersion
Very lovely review. Congrats! Subscribed
Thanks for the sub!
I think they all are great BUT I can’t justify paying almost $800 to play games basically less than a series X love the video, very informative :-)
Hi, great review but why wasn't steam deck mentioned? Just curious...
I actually have not tested a steam deck, so I don't have any personal opinion on the product.
It’s a beautiful system but the ergonomics are a bit rough :-/
The controllers are a little big for me 😂
@@ShannonMorse yeah same. Hell the switch is rough on my hands too, captain.
Lowkey kinda reminds me of a turbographix 16 hand held from back in the day
Great review! I finally helped me to make the choice. Subbed :)
Fantastic review!
Thank you kindly!
I have both this and a Switch. And I barely consider this a proper handheld. I'm not saying it can't be used as such. But the battery time is just debilitating. So whereas I often play my switch away from the charger. The Legion Go I always keep in the charger when using it. I basically use it as my play in bed device as well as the one that I take with me for conferences and such. With a Bluetooth keyboard and the FPS mode it's basically a full fledged laptop.
Nice review Snubs
I had it for a week and it was great but it was way too big for me. I returned it and got the Ally which feels perfect for me. The Legion Go isn't for everyone
Z1 or Z1 Extreme?
Removable is awesome you can take it to work and use it at the desk and no one will suspect a thing 😅 just need a detachable keyboard option transferable as a laptop then.
I personally have experience of the 780M graphics which is the same architecture as the Z1 and I'm excited to see the next two PlayStation pc ports running on these.
That FPS mode makes other handhelds weep. But how much of a desktop do you need to use it effectively? Can you be on a plane and use the table tray effectively?
Always try low Hz and low watt combinations battery life increases greatly.
My biggest concern is weight distribution and balance and ergonomics.
I had the GPD Win Max and it wasn't easy to hold and the speakers were downward firing. I have the Onexplayer which looks similar and that was heavy and not ergonomic. I have the GPD Win 4 7640U love that psp replica look and the AYANEO next lite which uses the dated 4800u that released two months ago for £245. I love integrated graphics. Steam Deck made me an AMD convert 😅 Intel drivers in my experience to much headache and hard work.
800p is the general rule of thumb for handheld pcs and watch the frame rate if it's rarely hitting 60fps and mostly 40fps or closer to that then if the screen or FPS cap can be set limit it to 40 Hz / FPS you'll loose the screen tearing. They really should offer a 40Hz option. That's something that really removes the tearing and lowers battery use. Don't need 120Hz on a handheld unless it's a VRR display.
Talking on displays is this native landscape or portrait display? This is important for older pc titles. It's easily checkable via bios. If the bios text is sideways it's not native landscape.
All handheld fans sound like a jet ready to go but it's the pitch that makes or breaks the fan levels.
40 fps ? 😂 its not a steamdeck 🎉 enjoy z1 extreme power
@@seppeseppe-jq7nr locking to a lower frame rate / Hz is something some bundled with some companies management software, it's not just a steam deck thing its dependant on the panel used.
Z1 Extreme, 144hz Screen.
@@seppeseppe-jq7nr Generally that's to increase battery run times which is a valid move to make on any of these handhelds
The legion go only comes with the z1 extreme and either 512gb or 1TB.
Nice work
Thank you! Cheers!
Just got mine and after all the updates, I finally downloaded a game, and it's painfully SLOW to download it's been 14 hours and it's only15 percent done. HELP PLEASE what do I do?
In my opinion they should have focuses on making a new Yoga specialized for gaming. a 14 inch gaming 2 in 1.
People saying that legion go is heavy seriously need to hit the gym
😆😆😆 seriously, I DO NOT find this thing to be heavy. And I'm relatively dainty.
lol😂
I was close to getting a ROG Ally but the overheating sd card issue kept me from buying it, even as it’s the cheapest option right now. Yeah you can ignore it and add a large ssd but this will impact its selling price later, no one wants a defect.
Great review👍👍should I get asus or msi claw or Lenovo?? I like lenova screen
Lenovo
Ally.
Lenovo
I've had steam deck, ally, and legion go. I chose to stick with the legion go and returned the other 2. The screen on the legion lets me play every single game even. if it is small text
Legion go it’s the king 👑 I have the sd and the Msi claw is just ally copycat
i plan to use it as tablet before i bought it. the only problem i got is it doesnt have front/back camera for zoom and camera for document, weak battery, weak speakers, and ir blaster. windows is glithcy aswell. onex has the same aproach with removeable controllers its a great option aswell but im happy with LeGo. wished i went with 1tb games takes so much rom even with microsd
Am I able to play games I've downloaded offline on the go at work without a Internet connection?
I got the legion Lenovo go 1 tb. And then go to Best Buy and see the rog ally display and I thought it felt cheaper. Though performed good and I own a asus rog strix g15 laptop.
Imagine a Beowulf cluster of those...
I've been considering one but I'm still unsure if its a good purchase.. I have a powerful gaming PC so I play most of my games on the max settings on a 1440p monitor. Obviously this wouldnt be able to do that but I'm kind of afraid the downgrade in framerate/ graphic quality would be too 'disappointing'.
I have a great gaming PC too, but sometimes I want to game from different places... The portability is nice!
Yeah definitely. I want it for a couple of reasons: plane rides (fortunately plane seasts have sockets nowadays so I can keep it charged up) and watch movies/play games and also play some games in bed especially the gathering activities like fishing in ffxiv (mmorpg player here. I'm just seeing a lot of mixed opinions regarding this and steam deck/ROG.. its quite an expensive purchase so I'm still trying to figure out if its really worth it@@ShannonMorse
Hello Shannon! Can you please do a review on Asus ROG ally as well?
i can request a review unit from Asus!
@@ShannonMorse That would be great! Counting on that
Question, since I have a gaming pc, should I wait for Version 2 of legion go 2 Rog Ally 2 or MSI Claw 2. It’s a very difficult decision and I don’t mind waiting, is the legion go worth it now or even the Ally.
Id wait if you're happy with your gaming PC. The battery life needs to increase a bit more for me to be fully invested.
@@ShannonMorse thank you for the reply, awesome yeah I am leaning toward waiting it out- would love one of these just not sure.
I say wait till 2025 when AMD announces their next Gen chip then you are pretty assured to get 60 fps in all games. The Z1 extreme chip still makes it possible with frame Gen tech.
Subscribed. ❤
Thank you!
Can you play Microsoft Flight simulator 2020?
It sure can, with any flight sim 25-30 fps stable is more than enough.
I didn't try it but it should work! And with the joystick tabletop mount it might work really well.
@@ShannonMorsenow I might need to get it after I look at at the specs and the specs for Microsoft flight simulator 2020
I wanted to love it, but it's crazy uncomfortable. For me, it's not worth it. If handheld is in the name, it should feel good in the hands...but it doesn't. I'd rather sacrifice the screen size and get better sound an ergonomics from my OLED steam deck or my ally.
CUD U USE THE INTERNET BROWSER TO WATCH TH-cam AND TWITCH?
Yes! It runs full windows 11, so technically you can do anything on it just like on a laptop
Any news about something to connect the controllers to each other?
They've been all over Etsy and Amazon for months but Lenovo will be releasing accessories in the summer .
More important, how well does it run Linux?
According to what I've read, pretty well! This was a review unit though, so I wasn't able to modify the OS. Had to leave the original account set up for the next reviewer.
Hi is fan sound too loud ?
Somehow no one of these reviewers mentions the loud fan sound
Coo handheld!
I dread opening the legion space app 😂
Does anyone know how to download games from ps4 to legion go. Without repurchaseing games. Also, maybe from switch. I'm not sure how to.
You can definitely get the games on the legion go with a external disc drive but the legion go won't be able to run them since PS4 emulation is still in the early stages but PS1- PS3 emulation works just fine . But you can stream tons of ps5-ps2 games with PS plus for PC .
Funny thing is you’re going to think that she’s biased but she stating the facts. Lol😂😊
People always think tech reviewers are biased but Lenovo didn't give me anything for this review, and the product is being sent back to them (wish I could keep it haha!)
@@ShannonMorse absolute must get. Won’t regret.
*its purdy*
those controllers look terrible. Like, what's with the pogo pins sticking out?
Tbh I didn't really notice the pogo pins when playing with them disconnected.
i RECOGNIZE YOU FROM Hak5 dam i miss you all!!
I'm here every week!
Could you stream to twitch
Pretty sure. I haven't tried yet, but I don't see why you couldn't. There is a mic built in as well.
Like for MTG!
Beat my friends last night with my Tatyova commander deck!
@@ShannonMorse My friend has the same deck)
Is this device work for programming
And no occulink port, 👍👁️👁️
Just wish they had an OLED on the z1 extreme handhelds. I cant pay a premium price on a lcd.
Dude it's gorgeous you won't care about the oled
How much would you be willing to pay for the OLED upgrade? You already consider $699 a premium price, and an 8.8in 1600p 144hz OLED probably would make the handheld cost $200~300 more. They could go with a lower refresh rate screen like 120hz or 90hz, but I still think the price would be near $1K.
Lol "Only" 750$ ☠️
IT IS LIGHT WEIGHT 😂😂😂😂😂
I'm also used to holding a 15lb cat so I guess I'm buff 😂. I don't think 2 lbs is heavy, but it IS subjective.
