Oh goodness! When does this promo expire? I'm not sure I have time to switch my server over right now, but that's a very good deal! Even without the promo code, logicserver costs less than what I'm paying now.
@@MrShrog When the world download is available, get some friends together and go nuts! (I can never convince my group to do a month of hermitmaps. Maybe I'll just spring it on them for April Fool's)
The mindcrack clips really bring back some nostalgia. I only found hermit craft after my favorite mindcrack players such as etho, bdubs and doc moved over. Saying that, hermitcraft has surpassed anything any predecessor could have imagined. The originality and creativity of the hermits grows every day and hermitcraft today is a absolute masterpiece
I really relate to this always loved mindcrack when at the end it all just kind off fell a part. Loved seeing hermitcraft grow into wat it is today!🙏🏼❤
In some distant future there will be university lectures or entire courses on Minecraft SMPs, and I don't see how it doesn't all begin with Hermitcraft. We're living through history kiddies!
I remember finding Hermitcraft through Generikb, back when he joined the server and quickly formed the B-Team with Bdubs. (God, the original B-Team storyline was such a fun storyline.)
Not only has HermitCraft lost it's "that MindCrack clone" reputation, MindCrack is now seen by many people as merely a footnote in HermitCraft's history. I've seen so many videos and posts refering to MindCrack as "that server that inspired HermitCraft". It's actually quite sad to see personally.
@@Myne1001 PauseUnpause man. Because his Twitch numbers dropped off so badly, he just accepted a full time job starting the middle of this month so he will only stream once a week now. I will always remember Pause’s big days in the spotlight.
@@BreeZaps I absolutely adore Pause's streams. I watched so much of him growing up and when he streams he is always very attentive, says your name and always reads every chat. Having that interaction while I still consider him a great youtuber is so awesome to me.
I just stumbled onto this video while watching some S10 HermitCraft episodes. Suddenly saw my own face in a recommended video (this one) haha. It's awesome to see how far HermitCraft has come and see the awesome community you've all created! I'm honored and humbled to have played some small part in its origins.
knowing how much impact Hypno and Joe have had on the server really makes me wish they got much more love and attention! I love these videos, a real blast from the past :)
They get plenty of attention but they don't get that many subs because their content isn't mainstream. Hypno pretty much just does normal let's plays and Joe has a special personality and way to play minecraft .
Since you still have a lot of long-standing members currently playing, maybe the next video series (or something within this series) would be an edited round-table discussion of other Hermit's experiences as they joined the HC server and played their first season or two. JoeHills, Etho, Doc, Cleo, Mumbo, Hypno, etc. How they got invited, what they felt like when they started, if they ever thought of leaving, how they feel about old members leaving the server (or new members joining), how their approach to each season changes. I think it would be neat to hear more voices.
I remember Guude did something like that when he was making the UHC monument in, I think, Season 4 of Mindcrack. He talked to certain members whilst building a statue of themselves about how they joined and all. Etho had an episode, from what I remember. It's really well worth doing, especially for the older members of Hermitcraft like Cleo and False.
Oh man, seeing Zisteau pop up in those clips made my heart flutter. Vonsway, the E Prank, Super Hostile... good times. :) After Mindcrack, I stopped watching SMP stuff until a random Grian up years later, about the S6 civil war. Binge watching ensued. I'm happy I found this community.
For anyone wondering, Zisteau hasn't made minecraft content in a long time, but he still streams and uploads other games regularly. His videos are just as over-the-top as ever, if not more so. True Zistonian fashion. I highly recommend the Factorio or Satisfactory playthroughs.
@@IndyJay53 Seconding this. I still regularly watch and rewatch some series. In fact, I'm rewatching his first factorio series again. He's still really fun and I wish he would pick up Minecraft again. But only when he's ready to.
I used to love it. Its upsetting to see some of them never made it successful. Arkas was little known, but his building skills were ahead of their time. His skills 10 years ago rival some of the best to this day. Also Etho = Goat
Dude, I really loved your rules that matter series. I even started (never finished) my own rules that matter series. Are you going to be at the marathon next week? Would love to at least see you in the UHCs.
Really recommend going back and watching all of Etho, Beef and Pause's CTM maps. People have made playlists of them and it's one of the best things I have found through first finding Hermitcraft during the pandemic.
@@riaingalligan8461 It stands for Capture The Monument. It was a popular Minecraft map genre back then which was created and popularized by Vechs, who was a member of Mindcrack. Super Hostile is the most popular CTM map series, created by Vechs.
I remember finding Mindcrack when Etho joined in December 2011, not long after the official release of 1.0. I was 17 at the time, and I loved watching the Mindcrackers' escapades. They really did set the standard for an unmodded SMP Minecraft community. It's a shame to see how far they've fallen from the limelight, but as you said X, they were the ones to chart new ground and so had the most risk - and IMO they also just didn't handle the sharp decline in Minecraft's popularity it experienced in 2014 very well. Still, I'm thankful for the memories I have of them - Zisteau was my favorite through the absurd scope of his builds (which are tiny by today's standards!) and the insanity of his pranks. Good times.
@@IndyJay53 I feel like comparing the sizes of bases in Factorio and Minecraft isn’t really fair, especially considering that Factorio lets you have robots build things for you. The base is still enormous, even by Factorio standards, but it’s not a fair comparison to Minecraft megabases
This is such a nostalgic vid. I’ve been watching you X since season one and you are still one of the only few TH-camrs I still watch. It was great seeing you mention old hermits and got me real nostalgic for Static, Generik, Kieshar, Monkeyfarm and the rest
Team Canada will forever hold a special place in my heart. The mushroom prank, Guude's Funhouse prank was also legendary, also their playthroughs of Vechs' Super hostile maps. This is what childhoods are built on.
I still remember Guude having people genuinely convinced that Beef has no legs... I loved Mindcrack when I was in middle school, and seeing some of my favourite creators come back with HermitCraft so many years later and also leading me to new creators has just been the most amazing thing
@@Frostingale I remember some who was disabled leaving a long kind comment on one of VB's videos saying how they were inspired by Beef's success. I wonder how they feel knowing it was all a meme?
im too emotional to comment on the rest of the video, but i will literally never forget how hard i laughed when pause fed that notch apple that cost 1000 real life dollars to the horse in charity uhc
As someone who started watching through Grian in season 6, I was really interested in the history of Hermitcraft, I tried finding out more about it back then but it was too much for me and I got lost. After watching more hermits in season 7 I tried looking it up on your channel but it still was too much (lol) thanks for making this trilogy, it explained (probably) every unanswered question I had about Hermitcraft and even more! Love ya X
X, props to you man, the amount of editing and work you put into this mini series is impressive. Learning the inner workings and history of hermitcraft has been delightful.
This was a fascinating journey back in time. For people who have found HC in later seasons, so much context is lost to history. It's absolutely fascinating to learn not only how the Hermits have found each other over time, but also how Minecraft as a game has developed alongside the ideas of the community. And I find it beautiful that the game is still being developed with the community even after all these years and the incredible success of the game. As they always say, alone you go faster, together you go further. Thank you for this amazing Trilogy, I really enjoyed it!
That segment on your favourite moments was such a wild nostalgia trip. Seeking out my favourite mindcrackers last year when I got back into the game is how I first found Hermitcraft, but the old times of the E pranker and dramatic UHC twists will always be incredibly close to my heart.
mindcrack was a staple of my early years as a teen, i'm so glad you guys carried the torch over and i get to continue to watch great smp content well into my adult life
I literally only discovered Hermitcraft because Beef joined, and I am so happy he did because this community and these wonderful creatives have filled my days with joy and excitement. Thanks for all you do
I remember watching the early days of mindcrack, that’s when I started watching Bdubs and vintage beef. I really enjoyed the dynamic between Bdubs and Generik, it’s sad that he had a falling out and isn’t part of hermit craft.
these days GennyB is a Vtuber on Twitch and he mostly plays Modded when he plays Minecraft he apparently tried rejoining Hermitcraft a few years ago but the server voted to reject his application
@@lamsmiley1944 I've heard that you have to have a unanimous vote of all currently active members to be accepted So all it would take is one person voting no
@@lamsmiley1944 One of the prerequisites to joining is showing longevity in keeping a steady SSP or SMP series. Genny didn't fulfill that requirement. It's not personal, it's practical. Hermitcraft wants their members to be active, especially if they are new.
I’ve watched Beef and Etho since the mindcrack days and seeing that the server they came from inspired Hermitcraft is honestly the most random sense of pride ever but I love it, and am glad we still have the couple OG Mindcrackers here to this day ❤️
The Taste that xisuma shows by showing the team canada sky mushroom prank in the favourite moments is impeccable. I still go back to watch that and king of the ladder video to this day.
good lord this video really was a trip down memory lane, I still watch Etho, but I also used to watch all of Zisteau's mindcrack series and his Lens was a project that still lives rent free in my brain when I make floating builds. I fell off of minecraft for a bit only really watching etho's content, but eventually stumbled onto Grian, Mumbo, and back onto your channel and have been working my through the hermit craft series. I used to do a lot of building and was really good at it in the past, but since I came back from my break there's so many new blocks to use that I find myself getting lost with building and the hermit's vids have been phenomenal to give me inspiration and ideas for builds.
I am loving these origin discussions, kind of wish there was documentary based on the viewpoint of the different Hermits. Maybe even each member going back and retelling old stories from their current prospectives.
So nostalgic! While I already knew much of this history on the Mindcrack side, it’s been fun to learn the Hermitcraft side and how the server was able to stay afloat even after periods of inactivity. Incredibly inspirational for SMPs of all sizes! Thanks X!
As a Mindcrack Patreon member, it’s great to see Hermitcraft giving it a mention. I hope there will be a day where both servers content creators cross paths again as I think it will bring people like me back to the game itself! Even if it’s a charity event, just to give us some nostalgia, one last time. Great video X, as always!
Its a shame so many people may have missed out on the height of MineCrack. Sure they made some mistakes but they paved the way for future SMP servers like Hermitcraft, Empires and more to thrive with engaging content. I've been watching Xisuma since he joined Hermitcraft, its been great to see the evolution of this server and everyone evolved.
Great video X, I loved Mindcrack back in the day. One thing I wish you talked about more was Zisteau! He was legendary on Mindcrack and kind of pioneered the idea of a mega base for a while with The Lens, and his Arcology. I wish he still played minecraft because he would be perfect for Hermitcraft
I've never been able to recapture my feelings toward Mindcrack with any other SMP over the years. For me it was a perfect storm. I'm so glad Hermitcraft is there for others in a similar way. While I do still watch from time to time, there was something special about that time in my life and I've never been able to dig in and excitedly wait for the next episodes. Thank you for standing on those shoulders so that others have been and will continue to capture those feelings.
Seeing the Mindcrack logo in the thumbnail after all these years is melancholy to say the least. Thanks for all the great years of content. Glad most of them made the migration to the hermitcraft server. Hope you are doing well Guude you inspired many :)
I have nothing but adoration in how you run Hermitcraft without pushing for “All the Control” you run a very entertaining server of a lot of very talented people in a way that is clearly and evenly decided by the group. Good going Xisuma!!
Always love a cheeky mention about the Yogscast, people tend to forget about how impactful Shadow of Israphel was back in the day. Especially because they just don't play the game anymore.
I think you’re slightly misremembering the mindcrack UHC; hardcore mode was already in the game before mincrack UHC, but the gamerule “naturalHealthRegen” was added to minecraft after dinnerbone played in a UHC. This meant they didn’t have to use a mod for UHC anymore, and it grew the game into the phenomenon which still exists today
I'm getting so much goosebumps from this. Most of these content creators have been there since I was a teen (I'm 27 now) and started watching in the early Mindcrack days. Forever grateful for all those people, especially in recent times where I have been struggling with a strong depression. My favourite Hermits always made their upload days "liveable" for me While there are and were many amazing memories, I think the B-Team is one of my favourite. I also really enjoyed discovering Grian when he joined. Feels like he brought a lot to the entire server and other Hermits
I was definitely recommended this series because i was looking into starting up a server of my own and hoping it would become a small community one day. I pretty much just play solo casually as it is but I've really been yearning to start up something bigger. I really like the idea of how big Minecraft is and how there's so much space for people to come together and work on communal projects and also have enough space for everyone to have a place to call their own in game.
Mindcrack is the reason I play minecraft. Specifically beef. I have been very lucky to have played with beef, making him a museum to all his best builds. Which ironically got me invited onto mindcrack just like he did :)
3:39 to which copyright laws as they are today have give a massive blow. I remember when YT was a place where creativity flowed freely and a lot of talents (in the music world for the most part, but others too as a ramification of music) got their start in the early days. From the clicky clacky videos that made compilations of memes came great editors that still work in the community today, we have great musicians today that used to do covers here, and many more. Now... that's kinda risky. Gets your channel slapped in 3 and with the new CEO who somehow manages to be even worse than the previous one... things are certain to take a turn for the worse. Modern copyright was never meant to be used this way and the ramifications are even greater than YT, but YT is the microcosm lens that shows us the bigger picture. From poorly written movies and tv shows, to books that are mediocre and unable to get out of the rut of same same because the authors are afraid to be deemed as plagiarists or thieves, to the incessant reuse of older IPs that has destroyed many franchise from the POV of their core essence (Star Trek, Star Wars and many others).
I remember watching mindcrack since etho joined, and then i started watching hermitcraft when dmac joined. Mindcrack did things that kinda helped kill itself. And i was so excited when etho joined hermitcraft as it was long awaited by most of his viewers!
It's so good that you mentioned PaulSoaresJr. even tho he's not a big SMP guy, he's videos were my first introduction to this game, I can still watch them anytime!
Even just a few days ago I caught myself humming "Two Baj's" after I heard Bdubs sing something else. Between that and watching some old Zisteau LPs, it's had the nostalgia kicking in well, and this is a nice cap on that wave I feel.
A good recap of it all. Its interesting to watch it put together on the timeline having watched Mindcrack's height, decline (video and legal and all) and the shift to Hermitcraft - as I followed the content creators. I really enjoy Hermitcraft content, it's always fun to sit down and see the shenanigans, builds, and increased RP of the server/players these days after work
Going through the Mindcrack history hit me with a major wave of nostalgia. All these old people in the video that used to be big, that I used to know off the top of my head. And of course, the same goes for Hermitcraft's earlier seasons. Redeyes, Spumwack, Monkeyfarm... I do also miss UHC, wish Hermitcraft could join together and do it again
@@PuncakeLena not sure who's attending this year in person, but Guude, JSano, Nebris, mhykol, beef, pakratt, arkas, sethbling, Aureylian, sevadus, coestar, OMGChad were all there last year. And usually some play in the UHCs or online in other segments like pause, Kurt, doc, baj, MC gamer, zisteau, and avidyazen. Plus all the friends of mindcrack and new "unofficially official" mindcrack members.
UHC was always super exciting and intense for me though it would always lead to tons of drama the subreddit. The drama is the one thing I do not miss lol
It was Paul Soares' Survive and thrive that got me into Minecraft. And it was PSJ that lead me to Mindcrack and then to the Hermits. Funny thing is that Paul's way of story telling and roleplay would fit much better into modern day Hermitcraft than it did Mindcrack back in the day.
Younger me, watching Survive and Thrive Season 1 in 240p after school would be blown away by how far Minecraft content has come, and that it's still around frankly. I agree that Paul's style definitely fits better with Hermitcraft than it ever did in Mindcrack. He really thrives in singleplayer though, where his stories can flourish.
I've been watching since the beginning as I was a Generik B fan early on. Glad to see the server still going even if I don't tune in as much since I have to adult more. 🙌
This was great to watch! Brought up so many names I've just not thought about in so long (Generik, Guude, Vechs) and reminded me of how cool Mindcrack as a server was to me when I was younger. I never got into watching Mindcrack much (was more the target yogscast audience age) but I remember all the people I watched regularly at the time saying great things about Mindcrack.
I love your respect for the other content creators. Your remark at 3:59 really pays tribute to your maturity and respect for the game, the community, and everyone who just wants to enjoy their experience. Thanks for making content, educating, and entertaining us, X!
Pretty much the same pipeline for me, though I did separately discover hermitcraft through kingdaddydmac back in the day and watched a few people back then, but only really came back to hermitcraft with bdubs and vintagebeef joining.
Great to know more about Minecraft and Hermit Craft history. Looking back, let me just say Thank You for stepping up so many years ago. Hermit Craft probably would not have survived this long, and you would not have brought so much joy to so many people.
I’ve been watching Minecraft since 2011 and playing on and off since 2012. You reminded me of soooo many good memories that I forgot about. Thank you X for the trip down memory lane from a veteran HermitCraft viewer since season 2!
It makes me happy to see someone that is apart of one of the currently most popular SMPs acknowledge that Mindcracks influence on not just SMPs as a whole but with Minecraft makes me happy as someone who use to watch that server.
"Content creators shying away from multiplayer" is a relatable mood. I've wanted to play SMP and even pitched the idea of a server to my group of Hetalia roleplaying friends on FB (not necessarily for recording, just to have fun on and rp as Hetalia characters playing Minecraft... it's _almost_ "Empires but with extra steps" 🤔), but nothing came of the idea due to incompatible schedules, some people only being able to play bedrock edition, etc... plus it's really hard to be a multiplayer content creator when you have no control over your own availability and can only "record and edit when you luck into having time to yourself" (which also locks me out of being a streamer, since streams live and die by consistent scheduling). This entire series has been enlightening, and it's nice to get a peek behind the curtain at stuff like this!
Yes, it's hard. Some of the things that got Mindcrack going was that Guude had (has?) money. He apparently used to have some sort of business that he sold, and so he wasn't nearly as dependent on ad income, and he had more time to make and edit videos. He could even try things like the PlayMindcrack server (which was very fun, but not profitable!).
One of the most beautiful videos on TH-cam. The impact mindcrack had not only in the game but also in the form of content creation is honestly heart warming.
I started my minecraft journey by a friend showing me "Bite-sized Minecraft" from Sethbling, which led me to Mindcrack, which led me to Etho, which led me to Hermitcraft. I haven't been there from the earliest days but I have grown up with it. Very cool video and awesome to see the people you play with now, were the players you were watching.
I am pretty sure Sethbling brought me to Mindcrack as well. he did a thing with 8 bit rom and then he had a thing with a plug in that added video or something 3 way irl and minecraft. It was weird.
I remember a friend sharing a video of Zisteau playing single player ctm. Which led me to pause, joe and Cleo. And I've been watching them since before hermitcraft and Mindcrack. And the growth each person and the whole community have had over the past decade has been amazing. This was so nice to be reminded about the early days and humble beginnings. Excellent vid, X!
It is the nostalgia of this era yogscast Etho and doc that brought me back to hermitcraft and TH-cam itself very recently. I ultimately became a subscriber to you all the hermits and even empires!
I never thought of Hermitcraft as "copying" Mindcrack - they seemed like two very different styles of gameplay to me. Mindcrack was more like a vlog-style SMP (especially with Guude and all of the stories he had to tell). Just about everyone of his episodes had an interesting "So I doing such-and-such in this city and met this guy..." story. Guude always seemed to have a more business mindset to Mindcrack (new Mindcrackers joining the server actually slowed down after they got to around 20 members). I think it was the slowing down of getting new members that was a contributing factor to Mindcrack's decline, or maybe a symptom of its' decline. Around 2012/2013, I noticed a change in Minecraft content - what used to be "all day, every day" (Single player one day, SMP another, custom map a 3rd day, group map on day 4, etc.), started having 1 new game per week, then Minecraft videos down to 3 days a week, once per week, every 2 weeks, and eventually, half of Mindcrack members were focusing on livestreaming other content, with a quarter focusing on their TH-cam channels. From what I remember about Guude's stories about him growing up (sounded like he had a rougher childhood, and/or grew up in a rough neighborhood), he always seemed more cautious about his close network of friends, which I think was part of the reason the contract came about. The only Mindcracker that suprised me the most by not signing it was TheJims - I could see where the other members maybe had a valid reason for not wanting to sign it, some of which even hinted reasons in earlier episodes. Consequently, the ones that didn't sign were usually the ones with fast growing TH-cam channels (with DocM77 and VintageBeef (who did sign the contract) following Etho and Bdubs to Hermitcraft). Once they were gone, there wasn't a reason to watch Mindcrack anymore. I think the tldr is that Guude's style was a chill vlog-like episode everyday, but members with growing channels were starting to focus on the quality of episodes. Oh, and who can forget the Mindcrack Podcasts? As for Hermitcraft, I've been watching since the beginning (although it was competing with the Mindcrack videos coming out every day, so it was hard to watch everyone). I do remember watching X, Keralis, Static (I miss his videos), Slipgator, Hypno and Dmac.
I kind of miss the Mindcrack server. With the likes of Guude, pause unpause, zisteau and others. (Etho was my favourite tho) anyway I am glad you took inspiration and started this amazing server.
thank you for this mini series! I have attempted making servers of my own for friends groups in the past and we have decided to try again! your videos have been so helpful to me in learning hoe to identify concerns and advice on how to address them as well as pointing out some much needed quality of life resources. thank you!!
Loved the video, but i do think what you said about some smps turning into "single player" on a multiplayer map is kind of what is happening to hermitcraft at this point and why the empire crossover is soo good. Lots of interaction with many people. I personally felt like in hermitcraft a hermit can become so completely isolated and not knowing whats going on on the server. I enjoy that content as well, and I get not everyones scedules lining up. No critism just thinking out loud!
Season 3 or better known as the second online season of Mindcrack is still my best memory of watching gaming channels on youtube. The content benefit from being new and exciting. While the tempo of videos were a lot more chill back in the day when people had attention span. While I truly enjoy the quality content of Hermitcraft there’s no longer a 30 minute video were VintageBeef tells a story and places around 800 blocks on his castle.
I do miss the simpler times when creators would just ramble while building. I think in Season 9 X and Doc especially have done a great job calling back to those days, just playing the game and taking you along for the journey.
Hermitcraft has been a part of my life, since season 2 and to this day, I'm still enjoying the content just as much now as I was back then, if not more! It's still as refreshing as ever, seeing new interactions and fun had between hermits, with you guys stepping it up every season, creating new and exciting content for the viewers!
I've adored this little series, it's a really nice blend of your Xisuma says channel and the main channel, and I can really see the passion behind the recent vids. I think you're such an intelligent and well spoken person- I would love more videos like this, just peeling back the curtain to the point where you're comfortable
Fascinating! Cool to see so many faces I'm now familiar with from waaay back then. I wasn't even aware of MC yet, & I learned later my son was playing after school at friends, who later urged me to try it after my beloved Farmville fell. I've loved it since day 1, and watching HC has encouraged me to try so many different things! Thanks for this!
I guess that _kind of_ goes some way to explaining how Generikb went from founder of the server to persona non grata, just up and leaving the group with nobody in charge, but there's got to be more to that story. Seeing all those old Mindcrack clips brought back a lot of memories. I was one of the Mindcrack fans from way back, watching from the first multiplayer season, and you're right, it really did show how Minecraft _could_ be played, but wasn't. It made people want to play with their friends in more cooperative worlds. It literally founded a genre of video-making and of gameplay in general. I think it's fair to say that Mindcrack was responsible for Minecraft not being a flash-in-the-pan sensation that disappeared overnight, because it really did seem like Mindcrack _was_ Minecraft for two or three years there. Most of us had gotten bored with our 2010 purchases by 2012, and Mindcrack was the life support system fueling interest in the game. That role has passed to Hermitcraft fully, by now. Minecraft, as enjoyable a game as it is, really has no reason to have stuck around for, if you count the Alpha releases, thirteen years now. It certainly wouldn't have without the TH-camrs keeping the interest high. The legal issues that killed Mindcrack are our gain, though, because Hermitcraft has risen up with a much more wholesome culture. It's kid-friendly without being childish, and that's an achievement. The main reason I don't watch Empires is because I feel like the roleplay/lore aspect is a bit too childish for me (or I was never enough of a theater-kid to appreciate it), not a criticism of it or anyone who watches it, it's just not for me, but Hermitcraft has this "just friends playing a game together" kind of vibe. Hermitcraft generally has a lot more time put in per video compared to the old days on Mindcrack, too, with hours-long builds being condensed into 50 seconds of timelapse. I remember watching Guude painstakingly completely clearing out a jungle block by block, just because he liked the grass colour better than in other biomes, while he told stories about his home town. Like, yeah, I enjoyed that. Watching someone clear out a forest has almost the same kind of catharsis as mining out a big area, but I kind of want to get to the part where it's DONE and the build begins, and the Hermits do that. Here's to ten more years of Hermitcraft! (but not eleven more, that would be too many ;-) )
I agree that Hermitcraft has a great balance of wholesomeness without being too childish for those of us who grew up on Mindcrack to watch. I remember coming home from bad days at school and listening to Guude ramble on while grinding away at some hopelessly large project. It was so comforting. I think in season 9 X has done a great job of calling back to those days. Just playing the game and taking us along for the journey, with less focus on the theatrics. Not that there's anything wrong with fanciful storylines, I just miss the simpler times I suppose.
You also got to remember how the game functioned back then to how it does now. With the editions of enchanting, repairing tools, mending, elytra, hoppers, etc stuff was way more of a time investment to complete.
Those early Mindcrack and Hermitcraft videos were what first piqued my interest in Minecraft. ^_^ Then a friend of mine started a server... I think was on 1.5, as he was all into redstone. Then horses were added in 1.6, and that became my obsession haha! I think it was BDubs or Etho who made a video about how to build a racetrack to measure your horse's speed, and that got me hooked! Unfortunately, that's also when my friend decided that it was more fun to mess with people than to mess with redstone... and when he burned down everything I had spent the last year building, I gave up on Minecraft for a bit. I started a singleplayer world a year or two later tho, and have been a big fan of singleplayer Minecraft ever since. Tried public multiplayer servers a few times here and there, got ganked and griefed a lot, didn't bother going back, and just have no real interest in trying multiplayer SMPs anymore. What you guys have with Hermitcraft and Empires -- the trust, respect, cooperative spirit, and general sense of community -- is a truly wonderful experience that a public server will never be able to replicate :( But I still really enjoy the game and watching all those Hermitcraft, Empires, Afterlife and Legacy videos -- they've kept me interested in playing, even after all these years ^_^
Ultra hardcore is not the same game mode as the hardcore game mode in Minecraft. In ultra hardcore, food didn't give you health back! Dinnerbone did add the "natural regeneration" gamerule to the game inspired by ultra hardcore, though!
Weird to learn that I started playing Minecraft before you! From what I remember, survival multiplayer simply wasn't considered very "stable" in alpha and beta. Mobs glitching out, "chunk errors" leaving big holes in the world, that sort of thing. I remember digging out an entire chunk to prank a friend, who relogged like 3 times trying to get it to load before realizing what I'd done. (I think carving out the corner of a big tree is what really sold it) There was actually some tension over this in early minecraft development, which eventually led to the "snapshot" system for people who wanted to prioritize new features, and the "releases" for people who wanted to prioritize bugfixes and stability.
This almost made me cry lol great time. I remember Nebris saying he cheating in one of the contests to become a member. He would also have all the best gear in like the first few episodes. he was then called cheaty Nebris. UHC was something I always looked forward to and all the legendary moments. If I could have Nebris, Arkis and AnderZel join a server that would be a dream. All three are amazing builders and some of my favorite Mindcrackers Another favorite moment is when bdubs build the mindcrack logo and everyone called it a potato on a stick lol i know he didnt like that, cuz he take pride in his builds but i would be funny for someone aka a hermin to bring it up and see what he says, sorry bdubs lol
I found about Hermitcraft through Generikb's channel, and then I found your and Biffas channels, been a follower since the beginning. Hermitcraft has come a long way. Looking back at those times, it feels really nostalgic. My fav thing back then was the TEA.
Oh this warms the heart, started on season 1 hermit craft and maybe some mindcrack even before that, I’ve stopped watching from time to time but the breaks never lasts more than a few months. Thank you :)
oh man, these leadership vids have been really cool! And this episode really gave me nostalgia, wow. I hadn't realized that static was ever part of hermit craft, I thought he had stopped making vids before that. And I didnt realize you had joined it so early on! Great vid as always!
Very inspiring. I remember watching MonkeyFarms before he left, he is the reason why I make my base into a dome. I never woulda thought that I was watching Hermitcraft. Keep doing what you hermits do best.
Multiple members said no. GennyB doesn't have a squeaky clean background and that's probably played a factor in some of the hermits not wanting to have him back. Seems like everyone has moved on from that though.

Hello there x, im wondering if i could maybe play on the hermicraft server while the hermits are on Empire's
@@MrShrog I don't think X would allow that since there are still some hermits in the hermitcraft universe such as xb, beef etc.
X is there any expire date per say for the discount or is it valid whenever
@@itmeurdad yeah, in some obscure contemporary new media history graduate class of a couple people maybe lol.
I remember finding Hermitcraft through Generikb, back when he joined the server and quickly formed the B-Team with Bdubs. (God, the original B-Team storyline was such a fun storyline.)
That’s exactly why I started watching hermitcraft because of the Mindcrack guys moving over to hermitcraft.
It really is quite sad to see, as they are more then that. My memories of Mindcrack is something I will always hold close to me.

What??? He's just a guy
Sounds like a podcast...a really cool podcast...
This made me tear up, Mindcrack was so special back in the day! Absolutely loved the series, and it still holds a special place in my heart ❤❤❤
Same here buddy!
Seeing Paulsoaresjr getting a mention always makes me happy. He was my introduction to this entire game
Lava bucket hoooooooooo!

Arkas was little known, but his building skills were ahead of their time.
His skills 10 years ago rival some of the best to this day.

Joe's been around forever. Guude used to mention him all the time.
Really recommend going back and watching all of Etho, Beef and Pause's CTM maps. People have made playlists of them and it's one of the best things I have found through first finding Hermitcraft during the pandemic.
CTM?
Eyyy Ladders, I go up and I go down.

Good times.
those builds are also tiny compared to Zisteau's modern standards. The new Factorio SE megabase makes the Arcology and the Lens look like playthings!
@@IndyJay53 I feel like comparing the sizes of bases in Factorio and Minecraft isn’t really fair, especially considering that Factorio lets you have robots build things for you. The base is still enormous, even by Factorio standards, but it’s not a fair comparison to Minecraft megabases

The Lens was *so* incredible! I still think about it all the time, too.
Awesome trilogy, X. Im sure so much work went into these videos, as far as Im concerned, it all paid off. Very enjoyable and informative. Lots of love

The original UHC's were absolutely iconic.

My favourite Hermits always made their upload days "liveable" for me
While there are and were many amazing memories, I think the B-Team is one of my favourite.
So keen for this video! First started enjoying minecraft back in the early mindcrack days
Mindcrack is the reason I play minecraft. Specifically beef. I have been very lucky to have played with beef, making him a museum to all his best builds. Which ironically got me invited onto mindcrack just like he did :)
Why is it not surprising that JoeHills was a primary catalyst for Hermitcraft surviving and thriving in Season 2!

Mindcrack has their annual charity marathon event on November 14th. Such a great group and lots of fun times.

Oh god could you imagine Zisteau on HermitCraft? The devious things he'd get up to.
Same! and it was either him pushing me into Mindcrack or it was the algorithme back then. Ik that's how I found Etho.
Man, the memories and emotions that this video brought back. Great job, Xisuma, this has to be one of your best. Thank you.

Does anyone remember Dwares vs Zombies? Part of the team Canada, mindcrack scene. Great minigame with funny videos from Pause and Beef.
I still sometimes think of Hermitcraft as Mindcrack's little brother, even though it is now leagues larger than Mindcrack ever was
It is the nostalgia of this era yogscast Etho and doc that brought me back to hermitcraft and TH-cam itself very recently.
Hard to forget the podcasts when they are still going.
;-; man I get emotional whenever people talk about mindcrack. I loved that time soooo much.
Mindcrack...
Man what a trip remembering that smp.
The nostalgia is immaculate.
"You're watching Guude Boulderfist...."
Immaculate is not the correct word in this sentence. I would advice expanding your vocabulary rather than ramble incoherently.
i didn't know that Hypnotized named the server! great historical video!
Great comment. I do miss Guude’s stories, and just that style in general, it made them feel more alive.
You also got to remember how the game functioned back then to how it does now. With the editions of enchanting, repairing tools, mending, elytra, hoppers, etc stuff was way more of a time investment to complete.
12:45 - That's the Joe Hills Difference! Thanks for compiling this X!
What you guys have with Hermitcraft and Empires -- the trust, respect, cooperative spirit, and general sense of community -- is a truly wonderful experience that a public server will never be able to replicate :( But I still really enjoy the game and watching all those Hermitcraft, Empires, Afterlife and Legacy videos -- they've kept me interested in playing, even after all these years ^_^
Love that you used a Tardis!
Loved this video, really took me back to the old mindcrack days lol
(I think carving out the corner of a big tree is what really sold it)
There was actually some tension over this in early minecraft development, which eventually led to the "snapshot" system for people who wanted to prioritize new features, and the "releases" for people who wanted to prioritize bugfixes and stability.
All three are amazing builders and some of my favorite Mindcrackers
Another favorite moment is when bdubs build the mindcrack logo and everyone called it a potato on a stick lol i know he didnt like that, cuz he take pride in his builds but i would be funny for someone aka a hermin to bring it up and see what he says, sorry bdubs lol
I would love to see someone add a custom potato on a stick texture for the baked potato and give it to Bdubs. Seems like a Tango-sized antic to me
I've really enjoyed this series, X. I love a good origin story!
My favorite Mindcrack moment was Nebris making a god apple in hardcore and destroying someone.
that happened a few times now. Nebs op
Applerise
@@CBWP UHC 17 is the one I remember.
This all seems somewhat soured knowing that Generikb asked to come back to Hermitcraft, and to my knowledge Xisuma said no.
Multiple members said no. GennyB doesn't have a squeaky clean background and that's probably played a factor in some of the hermits not wanting to have him back. Seems like everyone has moved on from that though.
