Couldn't agree more! This video really puts it into perspective how long I have been watching Etho - I began late on his original world towards the beginning of the Man Cave. Watched most of his vids since then. Team Canada!
Worth noting: Etho is also largely responsible for the advent of block-update detection systems, coining the term BUD-switch 11 years ago. 5 years later, Mojang would introduce the observer block to replicate the functionality of advanced, glitch-reliant block-update detection systems that were being patched out (although Etho's original design could still work to this day).

Etho is the first TH-camr I ever subscribed to and I have been watching him since 2011 when I was 10yrs old. His videos are and always have been a source of comfort for me, especially his let’s play series. It helped me get through one of the worst times in my early life and it’s for that reason he holds a very special place in my heart. Thank you Etho for all that you do and for being an inspiration to us all.
Etho is a special person, not just in the minecraft space, but also the TH-cam space. I've been watching him nearly as long as he's been around. I'm 31 now and if he uploaded until he was an old guy I'd probably watch him for the rest of my life. I can't say the same for any other TH-camr, but Etho has always remained true to himself, he never deviates from that, and his videos are a comfort and a joy to watch even though I haven't played MC in years and years.
His lack of politics and other topics is really refreshing. No other TH-camr has been able to keep their mouth shut and just do what their channel is about. He's a real good guy for that.
Etho raised so many of us, I wouldn’t be the person I am today. His goofiness and kindness has been passed down to so many young people in this world and I can’t be thankful enough for that.
I've been subbed to him since 2013 but started watching since the very first video, and I feel like his community has a lot of dedicated people like that, more than the average popular youtuber.
During situation that he had to take time away from youtube his comments section is nearly 100% full of positive messages i am proud to be a part of his fan base.
This man has changed the lives of the many kids who watched him. With most of them being adults now, it’s nice to see and hear some forgotten nostalgia.
Etho was the first youtuber I ever watched, and when I started watching, I was 9 years old. I watched all of the over 300 lets play episodes available at that time. He still holds a special place in my heart. If I ever get a chance to meet him, that will be a real dream come true.
I don't play Minecraft anymore. I haven't for about 10 years. But throughout that time I have still watched almost all of Etho's videos. Tells you a lot when he was one of the OGs who didn't have to diversify their content when others did as Minecraft was 'dying'. It's also crazy how consistent his viewing figures have been for his main series videos. Shows there are probably a lot of people, like me, who still watch him Just read through all the comments on this video and see how well he is loved by all ❤
I remember that! Almost all the channels i followed that started diversifying back then are dead channels now. Its clear when someone does something he enjoys rather than what gets views. Etho has been a remarkable consistent presence in my life. Even in the moments that i didn't play much minecraft
Etho has been my favorite Minecraft TH-camr for years. Started watching him from his early mindcrack days all the way up until now, and I’m about to turn 25, and I’ve been playing Minecraft for around 13-14 years
I was a little slow to come to the Etho train, as I was never good with the technical side of things. But Etho is magnetic. He makes everything interesting and heartwarming and I’m glad he’s still around.
I would have loved to see Team Canada get mentioned, other than that, amazing video! I've been watching Etho since early 2012 and all I can say is that I'm incredibly thankful he still uploads and cares even more about his videos and audience. Thanks Etho
Your voice is pretty soothing and your content complimates it, keep up the good work (Not to say im trying to restrict you to this and only this ) thanks for making the video man
One fav part about this video: it reminded me of how much time has passed. 2015?!! that was when he joined hermitcraft? that means it will almost be a DECADE since that time. Crazy...surely.
This video is incredible! Excellent job! I used to upload Minecraft content when I was in high school and I know the low view count can be discouraging at times, especially with the level of effort you are putting into the content. I say this to say, don’t give up! You have a rare talent and you have managed to capture that here in this video. I hope to see your channel grow exponentially over the coming months
I love Etho. I’m 26 now, started watching his let’s plays around 10 years ago. Even when I stopped playing Minecraft I would still watch his videos. He’s a big part of my teenage years and has gotten me through a lot. Great video, thank you for sharing.
Etho was the first content creator I subscribed to, but I watched his content long before that and didn't have an account. To this day he is one of the few creators I drop almost anything to go watch because eim never disappointed and always leave inspired in some way. I didn't realize until a year or so ago how much he influenced my way of playing games and now I wouldn't have it any other way!!! He introduced me to so many epic creators and ways to play and games that I still go back and watch his older content. This was a great video that really did capture some of his magic, great job!!
Characters of note: Vechs was a mapmaker who pioneered the "Capture the Wool" genre of maps. Vechs' created a series of maps called Superhostile, of which canopy-carnage was one. Etho played many of these maps (Among other games) with fellow Mindcrack creators Vintagebeef and Pauseunpause. Excellent video and touching editorializing at the end.
Thank you for reminding me of all the reasons i've followed etho for over a decade now. also hittin with a ton of the feels with the same end credits song sethbling used. fond memories all around and great editing
Etho was the first Minecraft TH-camr i ever watched, much like others, and has been a big inspiration to me. If it wasn't for him, i wouldn't have ever started playing Minecraft.
You know hes one of, if not the best, when you still watch him after 10 (or so) years and dont even play Minecraft anymore. He just always keeps it interesting and fun.
I wish you covered OOGE content. I would say that was pretty important to who he is as a content creator today. It showcased his pve skills and knowledge of the game and how funny he can be with other creators. I may be biased as those super hostel maps were my introduction the minecraft in general and I continue to enjoy the content of bdubs and etho to this day. Still great video.
@@The_Bee33 about 2500 give or take. But this group of around 200 videos that start another minecraft OG in his early years was worth a mention in my opinion
One of the core things that keeps his series' more interesting than most other people, is that for a ton of redstone and other contraptions, he just wings it, instead of hours of planning in test worlds. It keeps the old feeling of tinkering intact, and makes it more relateable to how insane some of the builds are when you only see them in a survival world and not pre-built in a test world.
The finale of his first Let's Play was one of the first times I experienced grief. Back then, I didn't even have an email, I just had his channel bookmarked and would check it every day.
Etho is incredibly intelligent and learns things really quick. All his redstone is testiment to that. Endlessly curious and inventive. After his sparring with Gem he's going to spend a week practicing and become one of the best pvprs again. The man has building talent, redstone wizardry and the sharpest wit. Classically charming.
I just find it pretty cool that the same guy who we joke about being washed up, who is the guy who gives crossbows with powerful fireworks to a team called ties on a series for minecraft youtubers called limited life, is also the guy who's been playing th- i'm rambling but i hope you got the point
I keep checking on this video because it got recommended to me at about 900 views yesterday night, and within the span of a day, it's gotten 111k views, despite upload man only having like 2k subscribers. Absolutely bonkers the love for this man.
Etho was my childhood. And I’m sad to say I haven’t watched as much of him lately. The games he played directly inspired me to play them myself to this day. I didn’t even realize the TNT Olympics are what connected me to the 4 Minecraft TH-camrs I would watch. ❤
I probably wouldn’t have ever played the game if it wasn’t for etho’s lets play series. I always liked how he incorporated the context of the landscape into all of his builds and contraptions
You'd be surprised - a lot of Etho's audience is faithful long time viewers because somehow nobody ever gets tired of Etho like they do other TH-camrs. He regularly has comments from people that have been watching for a decade
This genuinely makes me want to cry (not from being sad), I've loved watching etho for so long, and him sethbling jeromeasf and bajancanadian definitely got me into the game. Etho sethbling and docm77 got me into Redstone and technical minecraft then this led to me seeing ilmango earthcomputer and xcom. The only MC youtuber I don't skip a single video from is etho even when it was hearthstone. Etho is genuinely an amazing person. Fingers crossed for more monument shenanigans with team Canada
I've been playing Minecraft since 2011 and watching Etho since 2012. I stopped playing Minecraft daily in 2017 and stopped completely in 2018. I still watch every Etho video! I also remember watching X's and Paul's early videos as well. Man time flies...
I love these videos that honor the older generation of minecraft youtubers we all grew up with. I'm glad new people get to be exposed to these youtubers through videos like this
I’ll never forget the moment I found Ethos channel. It’s was EP 104 in his let’s play. After finding it, I watched every EP before that one. And I don’t think I’ve missed a single episode since then. Love this video! Warms my heart.
Canopy Carnage, wasnt just made by any player. It was a Super Hostile CTM map made by VechsDavion, formerly Vechs. Vechs basically created the genre and has made like 10 of these massive scale maps, including recent ones made with modpacks
Fun fact: As there are currently 25 members on hermitcraft, the chance of two members having the same birthday is 56.87%, which means it is not too suprising etho and cub shares birthdays.
Etho and Junkyard are the reason I started playing Minecraft. I’m now 24 and still play it to this day. I have great memories of watching etho and trying to build my world just like him
“Heeey everybody, this is Etho! Time for another episode here in the Let’s Play world. We’ve got a lot planned for today, so go grab your snacks” I’ll never get sick of Etho’s videos. Seems like such a genuine guy. Always relaxing and fun to watch.
yeah, been watching him for ages, I'm...kinda dissapointed you dind't spend more time on HOW he's a pioneer. the EATS road was one, but what about the "ETHO hopperclock?" or basically, how in his single player with EVERY snapshot, and update, he tears into the new content, investigating all the different mechanics of each of the blocks and items, how they interact with redstone, and such. THAT is him being a pioneer, espeiclly since hed been doing it well before rays works and ilmango started doing that sort of thing.
OK, that Kevin MacLeod ending throwback to Sethbling got me real good. And really brought the point home for me just how long I've been watching these guys. Wow that was so extremely nostalgic. A nice historical overview of things (and wow, just saying that makes *me* feel old for how long I've been watching these videos).
I've been watching Etho for a while now - throughout highschool I'd watch his videos in the background. I don't really follow his multiplayer series but I watch all episodes of his modded series as well as the lets play episodes. His personality hasn't changed, and hes not so extremely over the stop as other creaters which makes him more appealing, its almost relaxing to watch.

Made me realise I've been watching Etho for 12 years... didn't realise it'd been that long
fr, I feel so old
This man has changed the lives of the many kids who watched him.
As a newer Etho-viewer this was really thorough and informative! Loved it! :D
Shows there are probably a lot of people, like me, who still watch him
Just read through all the comments on this video and see how well he is loved by all ❤
I remember that! Almost all the channels i followed that started diversifying back then are dead channels now.
Its clear when someone does something he enjoys rather than what gets views. Etho has been a remarkable consistent presence in my life. Even in the moments that i didn't play much minecraft
Etho is by far one of my ABSOLUTE favorite youtubers of all time, thanks etho for all you do and have done!
An Etho video always has a "coming home" feeling.
Etho was the biggest inspiration for me starting my channel, and still is my favourite on TH-cam
You're doing great things in modded. Love your series. Thank you.
I knew it, your base in Divine Journey 2 gave off such etho vibes
I wish you would come back.. You inspired others same way Etho inspired you.
Hope everything is going well for you in life!
really great to see Etho get the recognition he deserves.
When you said "mindcrack" i just unlocked a whole chunk of memories i had forgotten
Etho definitely inspired a lot of people to try the game for themselves. A true legend!
Etho just has a friendly chill vibe that's hard to hate. My personal favorite hermit.
Thanks Etho
Etho has a big spot in my childhood. I remember watching dwarves vs zombies. That was one of my favorite series of videos.
Your voice is pretty soothing and your content complimates it, keep up the good work (Not to say im trying to restrict you to this and only this ) thanks for making the video man
Means a lot, thank you!
I really appreciate it, thank you for the comment!
Glad you enjoyed!!
Characters of note:
Vechs was a mapmaker who pioneered the "Capture the Wool" genre of maps. Vechs' created a series of maps called Superhostile, of which canopy-carnage was one. Etho played many of these maps (Among other games) with fellow Mindcrack creators Vintagebeef and Pauseunpause. Excellent video and touching editorializing at the end.
They were CTM’s Capture the Monument. They were the best especially when he played with Bdubs.
You just took me on a memory tour of my childhood, great vid!
You know hes one of, if not the best, when you still watch him after 10 (or so) years and dont even play Minecraft anymore. He just always keeps it interesting and fun.
A great summary! I've watched Etho for a while, but I didn't know some of this.
Thanks for the comment!
Ive been watching Etho since episode 3 on Chocolate Island and haven’t missed a video since. This was a beautiful trip down memory lane, thank you
Thank you for watching! You may also like my documentary about ilmango: th-cam.com/video/olsWVBovNOI/w-d-xo.html
Etho's hopper clock...
2K likes and 1.2K views what???
a link to his channel
i don't have much memory from the gold era since i was quite young back then, but i do remember watching sethbling, had no idea he was one of the OG's
ah we love etho .such good childhood memories and still continues to entertain us as we all get older
Good job with the kevin mcleode music, super popular at the time Etho was rising the most
This is very well made and a nice tribute to Etho.
Epic video. Etho is an absolute champ. Also saw doc commented. That’s insane. Equally as legendary to me
The finale of his first Let's Play was one of the first times I experienced grief.
I just find it pretty cool that the same guy who we joke about being washed up, who is the guy who gives crossbows with powerful fireworks to a team called ties on a series for minecraft youtubers called limited life, is also the guy who's been playing th-
i'm rambling but i hope you got the point
I keep checking on this video because it got recommended to me at about 900 views yesterday night, and within the span of a day, it's gotten 111k views, despite upload man only having like 2k subscribers. Absolutely bonkers the love for this man.
Can't believe it myself haha
Etho was my childhood. And I’m sad to say I haven’t watched as much of him lately. The games he played directly inspired me to play them myself to this day. I didn’t even realize the TNT Olympics are what connected me to the 4 Minecraft TH-camrs I would watch. ❤
Etho brings creativity and innovation to all his episodes and that’s why he remains the greatest.
I probably wouldn’t have ever played the game if it wasn’t for etho’s lets play series. I always liked how he incorporated the context of the landscape into all of his builds and contraptions
No mention of the Etho Hopper clock?
Great video! I always wondered what Etho looked like. I never knew he described it. Etho is so damn wholesome he’s adorable.
Bros Channel is older than most of his audience
You'd be surprised - a lot of Etho's audience is faithful long time viewers because somehow nobody ever gets tired of Etho like they do other TH-camrs. He regularly has comments from people that have been watching for a decade
2:04 Ah, my birthday. I shipped out to basic a month and a half later.
6:44 i almost cried from the sheer nostalgia. I remember first watching that late at night when i was supposed to be in bed.
Etho was my childhood. Hands down the reason I played minecraft all this time. His dwarves vs zombies videos were the best thing ever
Grew up with Etho. He has this lasting essence of retro youtube content that can be watched at any time. Absolute legend
I had NO idea this was made by someone with a thousand subscribers
You deserve growth, this is really good
I've been playing Minecraft since 2011 and watching Etho since 2012. I stopped playing Minecraft daily in 2017 and stopped completely in 2018. I still watch every Etho video!
I also remember watching X's and Paul's early videos as well. Man time flies...
I love these videos that honor the older generation of minecraft youtubers we all grew up with. I'm glad new people get to be exposed to these youtubers through videos like this
bro just casually dropped my entire childhood before my eyes
Truly an underrated creator.
What I love is that he combines mechanics to make something that is very difficult to achieve, and is very unique
Fun fact: As there are currently 25 members on hermitcraft, the chance of two members having the same birthday is 56.87%, which means it is not too suprising etho and cub shares birthdays.
That’s not how probability works
How dare you make me learn probabilities.
Actually just under 7%.
@@hazta99 Not true, do the math again. In almost every school class there is 2 people with the same birthday, 56% is definitely closer than 7%.
For those who haven’t heard of it, it’s called the birthday paradox. Which gives rise the the 50% chance of sharing a birthday in a group of 23 people
Etho and Junkyard are the reason I started playing Minecraft. I’m now 24 and still play it to this day. I have great memories of watching etho and trying to build my world just like him
“Heeey everybody, this is Etho! Time for another episode here in the Let’s Play world. We’ve got a lot planned for today, so go grab your snacks”
I’ll never get sick of Etho’s videos. Seems like such a genuine guy. Always relaxing and fun to watch.
NOSTALGIA. Thank you for focusing on some of the small details that I had barely remembered. Reminds me of the magic of the time.
yeah, been watching him for ages, I'm...kinda dissapointed you dind't spend more time on HOW he's a pioneer. the EATS road was one, but what about the "ETHO hopperclock?" or basically, how in his single player with EVERY snapshot, and update, he tears into the new content, investigating all the different mechanics of each of the blocks and items, how they interact with redstone, and such.
The whole youtube world is coming together to beat Etho is washed allegations, meanwhile Etho is dying 25 times to Geminitay in PvP
This video was an awesome trip down memory lane. It's been amazing getting to grow up watching etho and all the shenanigans he gets up to
Whats the song at 10:12 ? Who knows gets a cookie :)
Kevin Macleod - Cipher ;)
I've been watching Etho for a while now - throughout highschool I'd watch his videos in the background. I don't really follow his multiplayer series but I watch all episodes of his modded series as well as the lets play episodes. His personality hasn't changed, and hes not so extremely over the stop as other creaters which makes him more appealing, its almost relaxing to watch.
