I encourage you not to be scared. Be prepared for eventualities that may happen but also relax knowing that the governments of the countries you will be going to take tourism and tourists very seriously. They do not want a scandal in their hands so they do their best to keep their tourists safe.
Having said that, you do need to be prepared. Here are a few articles I wrote on how to stay safe

Thank you, again, for the tips. I am going to be in Kenya and Tanzania in two weeks, and I am very excited! I travel a lot, but I have never been to Africa so your information is very useful to me.

I rode in many matatus as a Peace Corps volunteer with no problems. The Kenyans were always super nice to the muzungu. I did come out of many with limbs asleep from being so packed in but that was the worst. Of course that was also 40 years ago and the world has not improved. As a tourist I would agree with your assessment.

1st World Countries also have slums & political rallies , just as potentially dangerous & unpredictable in their nature, not just Kenya.
The border region with Somalia is definitely a "No go " zone for tourists.
    Take care.

I'm definitely not going to the Somali border (I still want to enjoy Kenya). I've been to Nairobi, Nakuru, Masai Mara, Lolita Hills. I've been to the Mathera slum ( I hope I spelled that right). We did a home visit and brought food for this one family. Thanks for the video!

By the way "1st", "2nd", "3rd" world countries dont refer to level of developement. Its actually just a spatial geographic grouping, based on cold war alignment.

I regret I didn't use a matatu when in Nairobi. I would have blended in, but could get lost.

The matatus are so cool with their artwork. Some if them are lit, with led lights inside and underneath, also with their music. They should be a tourist attraction. I took shots of some parked,,but should have taken a ride.

Eastleigh is not a good place to visit as a foreigner. It's generally safe for locals though.

    What about Malindi?

Mailindi is ok as long as you stay in good hotels. Watamu area in Malindi is an option you may want to consider.

You are doing your country a disservice. You might think u are helping but it's the other way round.
Why are you maligning your country?? You are just fuelling the "Western" bias of Africa and Africans that some foreigners already have! Are you really a Kenyan?
      Please top! 🛑 😮
