  • @refiii9499
    @refiii9499 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    You really should change out that ignition to a 00-01 cr250 ignition and also run a 01 cr125/250 carb. Have rob selvy port the carb appropriately to the carb you choose (I’d go the cr125 carb with that smaller sized engine). You won’t regret the throttle response difference using the bike carb and ignition. If you choose the cr250 carb you probably won’t need port sizing done to match the displacement. Normal carb bore should be sufficient. It was one of the best upgrades I’ve done to all my Trx250r’s!

    hpi ignition $ 299.95 . fly wheel sold separate at 75 $ and you also have to buy a indicator at $125 . total of 500$ lol same as cr250 set up . BUT i like this LED set up better . i wonder if i can run this on a factory cylinder if it would help racing XC .

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is definitely better over stock. I think you can get a dial indicator for much less than 125, BUT, that's the one I used in this video so it's the one I recommend. Call Arlan at LED, he will tell you for sure if it's worth it.

    GET A TORQUE WRENCH ADAPTER for torquing the cylinder nuts. You might think you can feel what 35ft lbs feels like, but you cant. and being you are using a spacer with 2 gaskets, it is even more important for you to torque the nuts properly. It's literally $12 for the adapter. I'm sorry if I sound like a dick, I love your vids, but I cannot comprehend pumping all that money into the bike, and not spending 12 extra dollars to properly torque what could be the most important nut, or nuts on the whole quad. Build it to last.

    • @MichaelSabo

      You're not being a dick bro; I learn a lot from people such as yourself from the comments; I actually do have an adapter but it didn't not fit in this particular case. Regardless, I think you're right; I should find an adapter that allows for accurate torque.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

    when you install the circlips the Gap needs to point either up towards the Piston or down towards the skirt shouldn't be left of the sidereason being is that the clip is easily compressed that way and could allow it to snap out and do a transfer port. The opening on the wrist pin clips should be straight up or straight down. They can come out and destroy your top end with the way you installed them. When the piston moves up and down it can actually compress the c clip enough to come out.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I learned this from some other comments; thank you for the info. Personally I've never experienced failure due to wrist pin orientation but I will do 12 or 6 from now on for safe measure. Thanks again!

  • @mxthunder2
    @mxthunder2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    gaps in piston clips MUST be straight up at 12 o clock or straight down at 6 o clock. so many freaking people dont do this and it drives me nuts.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Someone else said the same thing. I always just make sure the ring end isnt near the half moon cut out so the clip can easily be extracted. Do you know why 12, or 6 is important? I've never had a clip fail or give me problems come time to remove.

    • @mxthunder2
      @mxthunder2 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelSabo its important because think of the momentum of the clip as it goes up and down with the piston - if the gap is at 3:00 or 9:00, when the piston comes to a dead stop at either TDC, or BDC and then instantly changes direction, the gap in the clip can be compressed, allowing it to pop out. if the gap is straight up or straight down, the clip cannot flex in the same manner, therefore cannot compress and come out. Think of how a hoola hoop would change shape if you threw it up in the air, and it landed on a concrete driveway. It would become oval in shape before it returns back to a circle.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  4 ปีที่แล้ว

  • @F5Tornado44
    @F5Tornado44 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I'm not sure if you showed it in another video, or forgot, but before putting the cylinder on, you should put a couple drops of oil down both the main bearing lubrication holes in the case and a couple drops in the rod/crank bearing slot. Also, I was told by my engine builders at Klemm Research to assemble the piston and cylinder dry or with just a shot of WD-40 on the cylinder walls. It helps in the quicker seating of the rings. You don't want to glaze the walls before seating the rings in. The build is looking awesome though bro. Can't wait to hear that baby fire. Oh, 1 more thing. I know on the 86 - 87 TRX 250's the stock pegs position is high and forward, compared to the 88 - 89. If you get nerfs with built in pegs or just aftermarket pegs that are set to the more optimum position (as close to the swingarm pivot as possible), you may have an issue with the shifter and rear brake pedal length. Something you may want to look into soon. Good luck and keep up the great work. Looking forward to the next vid bro.

    • @MichaelSabo
      @MichaelSabo  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thank you for the info bro; definitely a good idea with oiling the crank, etc. I don't doubt what Klemm is saying; this is just the way I've always done my motors and they seem to hold up and run well; I'll have to research it some more! Yes, I had Factory 43 make me some nerf bars with pro pegs; I'm not sure if it alters the peg position though.

    • @F5Tornado44
      @F5Tornado44 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MichaelSabo Oh yeah, no worries bud. They just told me that's what I should do when I was on my way to Denver Mile High Stadium. I didn't really have a whole lot of time to break the motor in and seat the rings on the way there, so I had to start the quad, put it in high idle on the trailer, and then drive for a half hour, pull over and shut the quad off. Did that a couple times, stepping the throttle up a bit more each time. Got some funny looks on the way, because people could hear the quad revving on my trailer. lol. Turned out great though, because that's the MTGP ATV main event I won. I even started back in the 3rd row. Yeah, hopefully Factory 43 brought your pegs back and below the swingarm pivot. So much less abuse on your body when you're standing at the pivot.
