Loved the video. I found out "nigh" is actually a word, I wasn't sure but I looked it up. Nigh is a synonym for
    almost.

I was in the exact situation but as the instructor. The problem comes when as the blue belt you get the grass is greener mentality. I've had two blue belts leave me because they wanted rank faster. One went to a black belt right up the road about 5 years ago. He is now a blue with one stripe. The other left as a 3 stripe blue and dropped off about a year later. Most self respecting black belts wont take another student on that leaves because of rank. If either of those guys would have stuck with me they would both be purples with stripes by now. If a blue belt comes to me from another place he is looking at least a year before I even think about ranking him. I don't care how good he thinks he is.

Yea that sucks in that situation as well. Communication is key all the way around.

What do you do when you’re a pilot and always moving/switching bases? This results in constantly having to switch gyms and start over it seems. Most Instructors will roll with new students to do an initial evaluation but committing for a year to several years is difficult for some professions to obtain rank.

@@r3goode45832 Communication. Explain your case to the instructor. If you are much better than your current rank would suggest its possible he will rank you. But most won't until you have been there for a while.

@@r3goode45832 I agree, communication is key, explain your situation and that you're training consistently but at different gyms around the country / world or whatever. If they are understanding, you should be able to climb the promotion ladder.

Nigh is a word, just had to clear that up. It’s old English means the same are near. Used most frequently in sayings like “it is nigh impossible”

Thank you for taking the time to address this professor. You're right on the drive; it really isn't that bad. I don't see why I can't get down there at least once a month.
Thank you for the clarity. Communication is something I suck at sometimes, and that's probably why I'm in this situation.
Anyways, I'm staying in Santa Rosa Beach 2 weeks from now. There's a chance I'll be going down to Gracie Apollo Beach to train with a friend. Perhaps I could stop by Bradenton?
Regardless, have a great day professor!

I won hundred percent agree and even do this go with your other guy that purple belt go to the black belt teacher or professor and tell him that once a month you guys are gonna go down there cause you want to train with those guys so you can show that light bill professor kind of your skills and he could be advocating for you and I’m sure it will work

I have never mentioned a promotion to my Professor, but if I’ve been training full time for 7 years and I’m still a Blue Belt, I’d either do some soul searching and examine how bad I suck, or go talk to my Professor about what I have to do to get to Purple. It normally takes someone about 10 years to get a Black Belt, so at 7 years I should be a multiple stripe Purple pushing the boundaries toward Brown. Either this dude only trains 2 to 3 days a week and isn’t progressing as much as he should, or he’s moved around to different academies, his coach is sandbagging him because he’s tough on promotions or he outright sucks. But judging by what other Black Belts are saying, he’s legit. If you’re ready, you’re ready. I’ve heard that some Professors want to sandbag students so they go compete and crush their competitors lol. Like, a legit Purple Belt masquerading and impostering as a Blue Belt and absolutely spanking legit Blue Belts, just to bring home trophies, medals and titles back to the academy and attract more students.
