63.Mastering control of our Narrowboat

- Despite the weather storms we manage to get our narrowboat into Bosworth Marina on the Ashby Canal, during the Xmas period. We make full use of the joys of having electricity at our fingertips and discuss our thoughts on marina life compared to living freely on the cut. Join us as we travel further along the Ashby Canal and take you on a narrowboat journey and a exploration of Shackerstone and the surrounding areas. Steering of the narrowboat is featured a lot in this latest narrowboat vlog as Liz masters taking control of the boat...finally!!!

It was quite funny really as the guy standing with me on the pontoon started moving away from me saying 'watch out' and with that the boat rammed into the narrow jetty and nearly knocked me flying🤣 this was all after the fact that myself and Paul had been off the boat pulling it against the wind with poor Ernie still on the boat drifting out towards the reeds the other side 🤣🤣 I'm so pleased I can now take the tiller. Slowly getting more confidence and I've now passed a moving boat but still got a long way to go until i can confidently control it 😉😄

Hi guys. Woohooo I finally can take the tiller! Winds have been a bit rough of late and we were frozen in for a while but all good, safe, sound and nice and warm. 😀

Hi there Ed. The wind and rain have continued but luckily we have had some beautiful, crisp sunny days inbetween. We have actually released about 5videos since this one not sure if they don't get shown to you in the USA at the release date maybe. Wohooo!! Liz you diamond!! haha knew you'd do it in the end :) Thought Paul would of made you a coffee while you drive tho lol. That's a big boat Paul, in any wind it's hard to control as most boaters do when it's bad weather you hunker down and ride out the storm which over the last couple of weeks has been horrendous. I like trying out different scons and cakes when we go to farm shops and Marinas i'm on a mission to find the perfic scon lol. Always a laugh when wednesday comes along, stay safe and warm you two :)
Woohooo I got there in the end a Steven 😉 well not quite, I haven't actually past a moving boat yet but we all gotta start somewhere a? 🤣 I don't know why but I always think of scones of more of a summer thing but good luck with your search, our narrow bedroom entrance won't allow us to eat too many scones or jammy dodgers for that matter 🤣🤣
@@uponreflection I'm from the north it's scons haha :) Passing a boat is the easy bit you'l ace it, just remember the boat coming toward you is thinking the same thing.

Hi there Andrea. Knew you would want the marina entrance footage 🤣 sadly I was so busy trying not to be bumped off of the seriously narrow pontoon that I couldn't fill it. Trust me though it was frightening to see in that wind. The boat looked like it was going 100mph at some points 🤣

Are you mooring in one place for the winter? The ice and cold looks challenging.
Hi there. No we are moving around still. We just placed our boat in a marina while we went home for 5 days over Xmas. Ice can be challenging but if you expect it you plan to be near somewhere at least with a few shops so you can get supplies etc. The cold isn't too bad, it's lovely and warm on the boat with the fire on. We move a little bit less in winter and when we do it's usually only a short hip along the canal so we don't get too cold. But the rules are you have to move on every 14days. We tend to move on every 3 days or so unless of course frozen in. 😀
Well the marina well pricey £20 a night and people live there hell that would clean me out in no time.
Marinas do do more affordable rates if you moor for longer periods, say a month, or a season etc, the nighlty costs are always somewhat higher priced

I would of thought Ernie"s voice would of been much deeper but then what do i know about rare dogs that speak and wear strange clothes that look like a Mexican pancho, Ed 40 S Vegas

Marinas are too expensive.U both bought the boat to travel and not to be morded up
They aren't cheap are they but good to use if we do need to leave the boat for a few nights. 😀
