- During my pursuit of trying to find the best way to replace the water damage plywood on the inside of the camper, I stumbled upon a new problem. Nearly the entire back wall had become delaminated. I didn’t know anything about the fiberglass lamination. This was the first time I had encountered something like this. The toughest part about gluing the wall back together as one solid unit was trying to come up with an affective clamping system that would disperse the pressure over the entire back wall.
During the repair I added additional studs that I could fasten the new shiplap wall to.
Materials: 2x4s ripped down to inch and a half, Loctite premium, quarter inch plywood underlayment, Plenty of extra 2 x 4 material for bracing, self tapping screws, caulk gun, and inch and a half foam board.

Great job. Interesting that the tubes of construction adhesive worked. I guess the epoxy injection method would be needed, if the interior walls are still okay. Your clamping was inspired and I may steal that idea for a repair I’m planning. Thank you.
Dude! Thank you for sharing your repair. We've had some hellacious storms this summer and i see some bubbling going on. Watching your video assures me that i can tackle it myself. From vehicles, to appliances, to bathrooms, to siding, (and now campers) I'm a DIY'r that relies on folks like you to help keep the costs down. Appreciate your help!

I have done a Job like this on the Front of 5th wheel and was parked next to 16’ tall truck garage an cut 2x4s and 12” wide PCs of 3/4” plywood for pads against the White fiberglass sheeting! They make a glue for large caulking gun to spread with 1/4” grooves! Campers are Usualy Hot Glued and Stapeled are a fk mess to tear apart!
Shoulda got new Stainless self tapping screws! I have put many of these camper windows in different trailers! I always silicone around the perimeter of window also! Another thing to silicone is the edges around all compartment doors. Especially the outside kitchen ones get left open for Roof over opening and will hold water until it soaks up wood inside panel and swells up an rots hinges and inside plywood!

I wouldn’t recommend use the same glues I used. It’s been just over a year and it started delaminating again. I’d go the epoxy route next time.

Not serious issue but personally when rippin any material I keep what factory I can so basically when rippin the 2x4 if you would have helicoptered it on the second cut you would have had factory on both sides to work with. Factory will always be more precise due to human error and what not.

I would try the epoxy kit in the future. I haven’t had any issues with the construction adhesive though. And the ship lap came out nice.
Do you have any videos of replacing an aluminum foam core frame floor? I’m facing all the same issues with my walls , ceiling and floor
What do you think of the Locktite PL Maximum product for laminate and wood???
They’re good products, but not for what I used them for. You can buy epoxy kits online that are for repairing the delaminated walls. I would try that next time.
What is the name of the epoxy kit you mentioned after you used the Loctite product? We are right at the start of doing EXACTLY the job you did here. Ugh!!! 😡

How did the outside clamping system hold enough pressure? Did you have the tiny pieces of lumber hammered into the ground at 6:50 or so when you show the outside clamping system?
I’m also fixing a delamination issue using epoxy right where the side view mirror goes on a class a motorhome passenger side but the clamping system is where I’ve been struggling. I have the mirror off but it’s still a nightmare because I’m no carpenter and I literally can’t think of how wedging against the side of a house for instance is supposed to put enough pressure
I did. I cut a bunch of wood steaks to hold a 2 x 6 steady so that I have something to put pressure against.
It would probably have been much easier to first prefabricate 1 1/2" panels with luan exterior over a styrofoam core, then cut the sections you need from the prefabricated panels. Then, just epoxy the pieces into place and you would be done.
