This shows the delicate craft of VOCES8. I play this regularly as it is incredibly beautiful and soothing. I can now pick out each part and ride the different streams within the whole. All performers are excellent in this. However, Katie’s beautiful voice, assurance, and intermingling lead brings this work to a subtle, though magnificent focus.
I have to admit I'd only ever heard this being performed by a full choir and orchestra and thought that performance was the best, but this rendition has blown my mind! As an ex-chorister of many, many moons ago, this performance has to rank as one of the most superb pieces of Choral Music I've heard. I cannot add to the comments already made, except to add, how can just 8 voices produce such a crystal clear and balanced sound that produced tears of joy and utter calmness! Beautiful!!!
This should be Voces8's signature piece! The emotion emanates forth from each singer. On most Voces8 selections I attempt to sing along, yet on this one I am too emotionally overcome to partake. A true 'Masterpiece' performance, and one I treasure!
An absolutely spellbinding rendition of a particularly beautiful Renaissance Christmas motet. Just when you think Voces8 can’t get any more wonderful …
Tout est merveille , dans l'âme , le cœur et la voix .....Les mots me manquent tat je suis comblé par ces beautés sublimement interprétées comme la pureté de ces visages si
yes it should, but...most people don't like classical music, most classical music fans don't love early music, most early music fans focus on the Baroque, most early music fans don't like sacred music, half of the sacred music fans don't like Renaissance Catholic music, some of the purists that do don't like VOCES8, because they try to 'mix and match' so, the field narrows surprisingly quickly, it seems to me :(
I used to think the magic was significantly on the sound engineers until I saw some videos where they are singing with another choir live and quite informally without any apparent preparation and still it was quite perfect, including the massive presence of the basses. They are just impossibly good, we have to live with that
Jean Mouton's Nesciens Mater Virgo Virum was published five hundred years ago this year - in 1521. I am sure he would be touched by Voces8's skilled and sympathetic rendition, half a millennium on.
We are intelligent matter. Matter comes from background of universe. Language comes from matter. When words came out, Narrative took shape, and no collective intelligence might have existed without Narrative. Narrative is consubstancial to language. Birth of Narrative remained Mother Earth virgin. Word made (our) world, and Word still have to change the world. Keep going! Jean Mouton's Nesciens Mater Virgo Virum comes from background of universe 😉 This rendition is not only inspiring, it is elevating. Thank you
Voces8, you're unique harmony of 'angel'voices, also in this song Nesciens Mater brings us Mother Mary in our heart (again), it opens our doors and gives us the pure love, peace, gratitude and equality in our brother- and sisterhood. Voces8, you have to sing this song in every country > peace on earth! 🙏
Well, not by a big margin, but I think Huelgas Ensemble is in a league of its own. Not in every kind of repertoire but in franco-flemish polyphony - hell yes. Even Paul McCreesh said once that this is how the Renaissance polyphony should sound. Check, for example, Gradual from Richafort's Requiem: th-cam.com/video/byoZq1cjbfc/w-d-xo.html
This is the most beautiful I've ever heard (and I did several times this evening!). Brilliant. Heavenly. Perfect. Touching me deep inside. You are angels. Masters. Make me happy. God bless you all!
A favourite piece of Christmas music: for years, I've listened to the Monteverdi choir and JEG but you folks top it definitely. This needs to be sung in a larger, empty church with resonance :)
Congratulations. Beautiful interpretation. I really admire your ensemble, beautiful flexible voices .... I adore the voice and timbre of the mezzo-soprano Katie Jeffries! Merry Christmas and long live the music !!!!!
As always a perfectly sung motet by Voces8. Balance, intonation and timing are meticulously well done. I don’t know any better choir as this 8 voices group of singers.
Inexpressibly beautiful. As Aldous Huxley wrote: From pure sensation to the intuition of beauty, from pleasure and pain to love and the mystical ecstasy and death - all the things that are fundamental, all the things that, to the human spirit, are most profoundly significant, can only be experienced, not expressed. The rest is always and everywhere silence. After silence that which comes nearest to expressing the inexpressible is music. Aldous Huxley “Music at Night”
I've always been very fond of the performance of this work by Henry's Eight. But this rendition tops it, easily. What a clarity, what a balance in the different voices. Thank you so much.
Voces 8 are my favourite vocal ensemble and the competition is stiff..there are so many wonderful ones Kings singers chanticleer . But what does it for me is the the combination of male and female and maybe just a bit of subjective partiality! I like their personalities and have enjoyed them online during the pandemic. They came out to Australia and performed at my local concert hall Ukaria.
What a marvel! I wish I could listen to you somewhere one day, your performance is always moving for the effusive harmony. Thank you so much for the stream of emotions you give me.
Beautiful! Thank you for all of the incredible music you share with the world! Please record Mouton's Hodie Christus Natus est soon! It's a real gem and in need of a great recording!
An absolutely stunning performance of this beautiful music. Also an excellent recording. Thank you all.

Voces 8 is on another planet. This recording is chill-inducing, absolute sublimity. Gold standard.

How is it that this amazing group has less than 200k subs? Should be in the millions.

What Laurie said. But thank God they do what they do!
This thought has come to mind many times - VOCES8 has magnificent sound engineers.
I used to think the magic was significantly on the sound engineers until I saw some videos where they are singing with another choir live and quite informally without any apparent preparation and still it was quite perfect, including the massive presence of the basses. VOCES8. just has magnificent sound, full stop.

The alto voices are especially stunning here ❤️
Magnifique ! bravo, 8 Voces, vous êtes les voix des anges !

This rendition is not only inspiring, it is elevating. Thank you
Sublime. My favorite vocal group.
moi aussi
A glimpse of heaven. Thank you. ❤️
There are so many words to describe this performance - perfectly balanced harmony, pure bliss, aural poetry.
Дуже дякую! Молодці!

Thank all of you for lifting our spirits, as well as lifting & brightening any environment that 'hears' your lovely voices. ♥️
Merry Christmas. 🎄
Superb. Is there a better vocal group on the planet, I say no.
NO!
They are hands down the best. 🙏🏼

Absolutely beautiful piece of music and incredible singing!
Music full of beauty - wonderful singing!
So wondrous and beautiful-brings me to tears every time I listen to this-thank you Voces8 you're amazing!
this is real ensemble singing in style.... thank you
What can I add to the perfect eulogies of other listeners? Makes one forget what’s unpleasant in this world. Superb voices!!!
amazing how just eight voices sound like so many more-just spellbinding:)
This motet is a quadruple canon, fashioned to represent the earthy and heavenly choirs (8 parts total).
How music can be so academic yet wondrously beautiful is quite the conundrum!
This is the most beautiful I've ever heard (and I did several times this evening!). Brilliant. Heavenly. Perfect. Touching me deep inside. You are angels. Masters. Make me happy. God bless you all!
Possibly the best-looking vocal ensemble south of Rochdale.
So sublime. So perfect. Thank you all. Watching the beautiful faces singing as one. Does it get better? No, it does not.
It sounds beautiful even in August 🙂I´m melting... but not from the heat!

Tres beau et inspirant!

Repertuar godny Mistrzów. Dziękuję serdecznie. PL
I was blown away hearing this, it is beautiful x

Simply beautiful, Such a gorgeous song. Merry Christmas and joy be with you!
Jean Mouton is my favourite polyphony composer. His Salva Nos is also fantastic, especially when you're familiar with its Cantus Firmus.
I second that emotion

We of course miss Eleonore, but we warmly welcome Molly, who with her is shown that Voces8 is as excellent as ever.

Beautiful.
Bravo !
excellent!
Bravi ~ Thank you
So schön ❣️ ❣️
This is absolutely sublime. Am I in Heaven or still on Earth?
Good piece. But there are better ones from Lassus, Gesualdo, Byrd, Palestrina or Dufay.
This piece expresses very well...Heaven has come down to Earth.
Worthy of Heaven its self.
Merry Christmas 🎄 everyone, and peace to all.
Clearly comes from Heaven. Stunning, stunning, stunning..................
And peace to you too:)
@@rodneyrigby7865 Very many thanks.
Just beautiful! Bravo. (I'm still not quite used to seeing a 6"3" soprano....)
extraordinary, as usual !
Gli unici figli di Albione che adoro. 😍
So. Much. Resonance.
I like the sound this video makes.
Beautiful, beautiful... as always!!
Utterly sublime.
Let's hope we hear much more Mouton in 2022, his quincentenary.
