- This statue of Mary was cast in 1957. It has been placed a top a hill at Pat McGuires ranch for over 30 years. the statue was very weathered after all these years, loosing her nose at some point. We made repairs and placed the statue back on the hill where she will watch over the ranch and loved ones.

Its about time to repaint it I will definitely look into using house paint. i haven't seen the statue forever so we will see how it held up after all this time!

I used acrylics from Walmart and did not clear coat before taking the statue back outside. This statue was made out of cement and I found out later that Epoxy would have been best to use. There was a statue of Jesus at the same place that was made of plaster and it had fallen apart. Mary has been sitting on top of a hill for three years now, it is chipped and a little weathered but still looks great!

It looks good. In the future, you should use outdoor house paint. It's actually cheaper than acrylics and is much more durable, especially on cement. You can buy sample sizes at Home Depot that will be enough to cover the entire statue. Use a white primer coat first, though. After the final painting dries for 24 hours, spray it with a clear mat finish, which will help prevent chipping. Just don't pray the bottom of the statue, as it needs to breath.
