    you are lucky to have a roofer where I am they would not even looked at doing untill it had edge protection etc.

      We would have done whatever we needed to do to make him safe had he asked for it.

    I am sure you were frustrated with the progress, but man, that's a huge job for one guy. I'm not surprised he has a hard time finding help. Its a reflection on the low unemployment that exists in parts of the country.

      I know what you are saying but how did the second contractor have so much help and get it finished in just a few days? I'm not sure he was trying very hard to find help. Maybe he has just burned out of the roofing business?

      Completely fair point, and that second crew were on point! Thanks for showing us a glimpse of your new home. Making the rest of us jealous!

    should have found a new roofer if he didnt wanna do the strips. Good call on making him do it, will allow air travel and help with condensation on the underside of the metal roof!

      side note, I'm curious as to why you didn't opt for the "all in one" solution? They make foam core metal roof material that is commonly used in Europe.

      I admit I didn't know about it and no one suggested it.

    That dryer vent isn't long at all. You got about 15 feet of pipe plus an elbow. An elbow counts as 10 equivalent feet of pipe which makes the total 25 feet. In my state, NC, we are allowed 45 total feet including all elbows and pipe. You are way short of that and it will function just fine.

    Is the attic vented? To the outside or just to the living space?

    • @MichaelHoybook
      @MichaelHoybook  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Our only venting is our powered Energy Recovery Ventilation system. It is working well.

    Is there any particular reason why the roofer put the furring strips at an angle like that? I’ve never seen them done that way. Just curious

      Venting, continuous airflow to the ridge.

  • @67DocG

    Why didn't your roofer not like the furring strips? Was it a change order he knew he wasn't getting paid for?

    • @MichaelHoybook
      @MichaelHoybook  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, he knew about them from the beginning. He just had never had anyone insist on them being installed under a metal roof and I guess he thought they were not necessary. He got paid for putting them up.

    I've done a lot of reroofs by myself. Sometimes it's hard to get good help. I'm not a baby sitter. The next generation roofers to me are lazy. I'm old school.

    hi all, what thats machine on 10:20 ??????????

    • @MichaelHoybook
      @MichaelHoybook  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a machine that forms and cuts to length the standing seam metal roofing panels out of a roll of flat metal.

      @@MichaelHoybook Your roofer should have hired a man to help. I think he is a cheap scape.

    I hope you waited the maximum time to pay for the roofing...

    • @MichaelHoybook
      @MichaelHoybook  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      How true!! Our General Contractor handled all payments and he only made payments to the roofer as certain percentages of completion were reached. So yes, the roofer didn't make much money for all those months of delays. All the more confounding as to why he did this.
