I think Uncle Benjen knew who fathered Jon but it was never confirmed in the books and also the man that Ned was with when he found his sister (Meeras father) he had to of course know.

To this day I can never get that eerie and haunting organ music out of my head. Amazing cinematography and score. In my opinion this is THE BEST episode of Game of Thrones and probably one of the best episodes of any series, period. Season 7 has this awesome teaser trailer called "Long Walk" which shows the two queens and the one king walking to their respective thrones, and you can almost sense that this is the peak, the clash is coming and it's all tragedy & heartbreak from here.
Lyanna was "kidnapped" by a certain someone. She was engaged to Robert but never married him. Out comes a baby. Robert hated the Targaryen's and wanted to kill them all. If you think about who Jon's father is you'll know why Ned kept it a secret. And if Cat knew and treated him like her nephew it would've been suspicious because bastards don't ever get special treatment. Ned lied to protect Jon. If you figure out who Jon's father is, you'll know why Ned didn't want to assassinate Daenerys in season 1. Edit: the Stark's actually marry cousins but Ned didn't due to mutual interests during war. The Northerners don't like to mix with southerners. That's why they also have a side branch named the Karstarks. Side note: Cersei killed Pycelle because if the king can't have children and dies somehow, the law requires for the Grand Maester to take the throne. Cersei is Tywin's daughter. She has been fighting for the throne since she was born. She wasn't gonna give it away to Pycelle.

It can be explained in the fact that Cat reveals herself to be rash and unpredictable when it comes to her children: She kidnapped Tyrion Lannister WHILE HER HUSBAND AND TWO DAUGHTERS WERE STILL IN THE CAPITAL! She released a valuable political prisoner (Jaime) in the HOPES of negotiating for her daughters' release!... It's likely that Ned saw this side of her and decided it was too risky to ever let her in on the secret.

We saw how far she went to capture Tyrion and everything. And if Ned told Cat and she treated Jon like her nephew, it would've been suspicious because bastards are not treated like family ever.
Ned knew that if cat was ever placed in a situation where she could protect her family by revealing Jon's parentage, (which was the biggest secret in the kingdom and would have seismic consequences). Before he dies last thing Robert says is "promise me Ned"...but Ned hears that sentence in a beautiful female voice (it's written so well, it's hard to do justice). That's right where I knew who Jon Snow's real mother is. Good thing they didn't try to do it in the show or it would've given away too much. Throughout the first book Ned goes through this crisis of faith when he looks at Robert drinking & whoring & wonders if Robert really was a better alternative to Rhaegar Targeryan. There's moments when Ned is walking through the buildings, and where ever he goes he comes across these relics left by the Targeryans, which reminds him of Rhaeger. The greatest dynasty is gone, and still their imprint is everywhere. It's as if Ned & Robert are the masters of King's Landing & yet they're the ones who feel like outsiders. It's all very beautifully written & that's when you start to wonder why is Ned feeling so guilty? And why would he hide Jon's parentage? Maybe everything we've heard about Robert's Rebellion might not be all true.
This is hands down my favorite episode in the series. So much epic and important stuff happened. If you want an idea on who Jon parents are, watch R + L = J by Robbie McD. There are no spoilers in it, it's basically a compilation of scenes you already saw.
Love this episode and now have a sore throat screaming at you, then sit there captivated when I think you've got it, then you go off on a tangent, scream at you again!!!! This was the most intense episode ever.

You said it yourself. "Don't tell Robert!" she said to Ned. This is your hint. Why shouldn't Robert know? Why was Neds sister protected by the best sword fighter in the seven Kingdoms? Ned made anybody, including his own wife, believe Jon is his bastard son! Because he promised his sister to not tell Robert. So who could be Jons father?

Ned didn't tell Kat because he barely knew her. They got married, had their honeymoon night (where she got pregnant with Rob), then he left for war with Robert. Kat was supposed to marry Ned's older brother, but he got murdered by the mad king. So she got passed onto Ned.
Now.. don’t get me wrong.. I LOVE when people react to Ned’s beheading.. the Red Wedding.. the Purple Wedding.. Cersei blowing up the sept.. & on & on.. but it is THIS.. THIS mind blown moment is the reaction that I look forward to every time.. ~chefs kiss~
Ahh! My fave episode. There are clues back from season 1 and forward about Jon’s parents. Ned said something like “ the next time we see each other I’ll tell you about your mother.” I think he would have. There are fan videos showing the clues of who it is. In the book Ned pretty much explains why he never told Cat. "Some secrets are safer kept hidden. Some secrets are too dangerous to share with those you love and trust". So it's not that he didn't trust Cat like some people are saying, it's that he didn't want to put her in danger by sharing that information with her.
Nedd really couldn't tell Kat about Jon Snow. Not only because of his promise to his sister, Nedd knew Kat would give up Jon Snow to save her children.
Turn Jon in to save her children? That makes no sense. Cat saw Jon as a threat to her children's inheritance BECAUSE she thought he was Ned's son. If Jon was ever legitimized, he could inherit Winterfell instead of Robb. So knowing the truth would have completely changed Cat's relationship with Jon into a more loving one.

Or worse, turn Jon into Robert as Jon was a clear danger to Robert's claim to the throne and peace to the kingdom. Kat only barely tolerated Jon because she believe Jon was Ned's son. There was so many chances for Kat to use Jon as a bargaining chip. Bargain with Robert to keep Ned in the north. Bargain with the Lansisters to get Sansa back. Bargain with Walter Frey...
A couple of things, without giving too much away, before watching season 7 you should 1st react to a video called R+L=J. It will blow your mind. And you should pay close attention to the music at the end of this episode. It's a blend of the Targayen and Stark them tune. Literally a song of ice and fire.

As said in part 1; 6 seasons in nothing indicates Sansa's in love with LF, plenty that LF is infatuated with her. Each Stark at this point were given mentors ( most of dubious repute ). Bran - 3 eye raven = magic JON - NW, Jorah Mormont, Mance Rader = leadership , ruling and command. Arya - Serio, Yoren, The Hound, Beric Dondarrion, the Faceless men = killing, stealth, poisons Sansa - Cersei, Tyrion, The Hound, and LF ( Ramsay out he's Jeyne Poole's devil ) - Politics, ruling and manipulation . Together they have more than prior generations.

while you have forgotten all the little clues they dropped, I did too, the people of Westeros knew exactly who the father of Jon was if told that Lyanna was the mother. And so would Robert. And Pycelle also thought he was going to be around a lot longer.
Ned didn’t tell Cat because his sister Lyanna asked him on her dying breath to basically not tell anyone and Ned promised her not to so he passed him as his own son even though it damaged his honour. Reason why Lyanna asked him to do that is because Robert Baratheon would have killed Jon if he knew about him like he killed Rhaegar Targaryen’s other children. Robert hates Targaryens

jons the oldest hes only 6-8 months younger than rob in the beginning of the series. catelyn gives away jons age when shes talking to ned in season 1 ned brings back jon as an infant about 3-6 months old after being gone for a year. Jon was named by ned after neds mentor former hand of the king jon arryn (died in first ep)
That put them at the same age. Robb was conceived on their wedding night. Which made Kat even more angry. Not only did Nedd bring a baby home at the same time as seeing his son for the first time. Kat thought that Nedd had sex with another woman soon after their wedding night.
Dularr Rob is older than Jon but yes not by much at all only by months like the person above said. And yea cat was very upset bc she was at river run with baby rob and when she went back to winterfell Ned was already there with baby Jon. So Jon was at winterfell even before Rob (even though Rob is a bit older and obviously Cat is like Rob is ur first true born son) but still I hate Cat for the way she treated Jon 😭
All the clues were there from the beginning.. did you really think honorable Ned Stark would cheat on his wife and father Jon Snow? Even Stannis in season 5 tells his wife how he doubts Ned Stark ever cheated on his wife.. all the clues were there :)

"Maybe..... but that wasn't Ned's way."- Stannis I loved that how people knew each other so well they had their suspicions enemies used it to down talk them like sir Alister who was a targaryen supporter loved using that against Jon. But a Stannis just because Ned came home and CLAIMED him and raised him lol Stannis still knew nah that isn't like you to even have him by a whore.
There's a handful of different bits of information scattered throughout GoT that pertain to Jon Snow's real parentage. I'm sure a bunch of other people mentioned it already, but the R+L = J video on youtube puts all the related clips together. I like the flashbacks at the Tower of Joy (that's the name of the tower Jon's mom is in). In episode 6x3, we see young Ned and his posse roll up on the Tower of Joy, searching for his sister Lyanna. They are met by those two soldiers in the cool plate armor. You may not have noticed at the time, but take a look at the insignia on their breastplate. You've seen that more recently on a flag. Anyway, the guy that was wielding two swords is Arthur Dane, aka "The Sword of the Morning". You know he's a badass if he has a title like that! He's got a high-quality sword forged from a meteorite, though I don't think they showed it in the TV show. Anyway, that guy is basically the best swordsman alive, at the time, and they've got him and his Lieutenant guarding that tower. Meanwhile, there's a war going on, so Ned asks why the best fighter wasn't at the big battle where his prince died. Arthur Dane responds, "Our prince wanted us here." That line carries a lot of weight. What could be so important that the best fighter on the continent was stuck way down south guarding a tower with Lyanna in it? Then in episode 6x10 that part of Lyanna's whispers you COULD actually hear, "If Robert finds out, he'll kill him.(the baby) You know he will." A one-two punch of clues that are easy to overlook on first viewing. Especially since you only really hear about Lyanna in past tense, since she's been dead for about 16 years when season one starts.
Remember the first scene by the Tower of Joy in Bran's vision? Ned and his friends fought other soldiers. Taragaryan kingsguard soldiers. Think about it, just think. Why were they there? Robert and Lyanna were not married, they never slept together. I'll leave it at that. :)

You remember before Lady Olenna left Kings Landing, she asked Cersei if she was gonna kill everybody. Well, I guess she almost did. Lady Olenna got out of Dodge just in time. " Yes, well I suppose life is irregular," gotta love Sam. Arya is the real G, ole man Frey didn't see that coming. I guess Jaime didn't save his sorry ass that time. That was so awesome! Worth the wait for sure. Hopefully you are not spoiled on the whole Jon thing, but I doubt it. People can’t stand not spoiling. Also don’t listen to people who say the show goes downhill from here. We all had to wait a year for season 7, and almost 2 years for season 8. All that did was give people time to complain about everything about the show. Just like people do/did with The Walking Dead. Social media ruins all shows now. Too many fuck boys out there trying to ruin it for everyone else. If you like it that’s all that matters. If you don’t then I’m sure you will let us know. When you watch a show with no time breaks it’s a different experience than what most people had. No series is perfect, but that doesn’t make it all bad. There’s a lot of awesome moments left.
Ned didn’t tell Cat because of who the father was it had to be kept secret from Robert as he hated all of that family and swore to kill them all, so by not telling Cat makes it look like she’s pissed at him which helps the cover .... Lyanna was sworn to marry Robert Baratheon but ran away with someone else ,,, hence Robert starting the war and rebellion
We never got to know what The Mountain did to the Septa. I’d say he first gouged her eyes out like he did to Oberyn, because of what Cersei said: ‘my face will be the last thing you see’. Then he probably tortured and abused her.
Walder frey thinks he is called that because the Tullys are insulting him for being too old, and the tullys called him that because he was late to the battle of the trident
Also, here is the theory I have heard of why Ned didn’t tell Cat, Ned had been away at war, this war occurred when Ned was very young and newly married, so the theory would be that perhaps as a newly married man joining his house with the Tulley house (Cat’s family) he may not have known that he could trust her yet. Also, she could NOT have faked that it was hers because if Ned was off at war for a LONG time, he couldn’t have gotten her pregnant, so it would look as if she was with another man. The greatest dynasty is gone, and still their imprint is everywhere. It's as if Ned & Robert are the masters of King's Landing & yet they're the ones who feel like outsiders. It's all very beautifully written & that's when you start to wonder why is Ned feeling so guilty? And why would he hide Jon's parentage? Maybe everything we've heard about Robert's Rebellion might not be all true.

Ned didn't tell Kat because he barely knew her. They got married, had their honeymoon night (where she got pregnant with Rob), then he left for war with Robert. Kat was supposed to marry Ned's older brother, but he got murdered by the mad king. So she got passed onto Ned.

Ahh! My fave episode. There are clues back from season 1 and forward about Jon’s parents. Ned said something like “ the next time we see each other I’ll tell you about your mother.” I think he would have. There are fan videos showing the clues of who it is. If I wasn’t spoiled it woulda taken me a while to guess the father too. Good luck with the expansion!

In the book Ned pretty much explains why he never told Cat. "Some secrets are safer kept hidden. Some secrets are too dangerous to share with those you love and trust". So it's not that he didn't trust Cat like some people are saying, it's that he didn't want to put her in danger by sharing that information with her.

Nedd really couldn't tell Kat about Jon Snow. Not only because of his promise to his sister, Nedd knew Kat would give up Jon Snow to save her children.
Turn Jon in to save her children? That makes no sense. Cat saw Jon as a threat to her children's inheritance BECAUSE she thought he was Ned's son. If Jon was ever legitimized, he could inherit Winterfell instead of Robb. So knowing the truth would have completely changed Cat's relationship with Jon into a more loving one.

Or worse, turn Jon into Robert as Jon was a clear danger to Robert's claim to the throne and peace to the kingdom. Kat only barely tolerated Jon because she believe Jon was Ned's son. There was so many chances for Kat to use Jon as a bargaining chip. Bargain with Robert to keep Ned in the north. Bargain with the Lansisters to get Sansa back. Bargain with Walter Frey...
A couple of things, without giving too much away, before watching season 7 you should 1st react to a video called R+L=J. It will blow your mind. And you should pay close attention to the music at the end of this episode. It's a blend of the Targayen and Stark them tune. Literally a song of ice and fire.

Together they have more than prior generations.

while you have forgotten all the little clues they dropped, I did too, the people of Westeros knew exactly who the father of Jon was if told that Lyanna was the mother. And so would Robert. And Pycelle also thought he was going to be around a lot longer.
Ned didn’t tell Cat because his sister Lyanna asked him on her dying breath to basically not tell anyone and Ned promised her not to so he passed him as his own son even though it damaged his honour. Reason why Lyanna asked him to do that is because Robert Baratheon would have killed Jon if he knew about him like he killed Rhaegar Targaryen’s other children. Robert hates Targaryens
Kat would have given up Jon Snow to save her children.

jons the oldest hes only 6-8 months younger than rob in the beginning of the series. catelyn gives away jons age when shes talking to ned in season 1 ned brings back jon as an infant about 3-6 months old after being gone for a year. Jon was named by ned after neds mentor former hand of the king jon arryn (died in first ep)
That put them at the same age. Robb was conceived on their wedding night. Which made Kat even more angry. Not only did Nedd bring a baby home at the same time as seeing his son for the first time. Kat thought that Nedd had sex with another woman soon after their wedding night.
Dularr Rob is older than Jon but yes not by much at all only by months like the person above said. And yea cat was very upset bc she was at river run with baby rob and when she went back to winterfell Ned was already there with baby Jon. So Jon was at winterfell even before Rob (even though Rob is a bit older and obviously Cat is like Rob is ur first true born son) but still I hate Cat for the way she treated Jon 😭

There's a handful of different bits of information scattered throughout GoT that pertain to Jon Snow's real parentage. I'm sure a bunch of other people mentioned it already, but the R+L = J video on youtube puts all the related clips together.
I like the flashbacks at the Tower of Joy (that's the name of the tower Jon's mom is in). In episode 6x3, we see young Ned and his posse roll up on the Tower of Joy, searching for his sister Lyanna. They are met by those two soldiers in the cool plate armor. You may not have noticed at the time, but take a look at the insignia on their breastplate. You've seen that more recently on a flag.
Anyway, the guy that was wielding two swords is Arthur Dane, aka "The Sword of the Morning". You know he's a badass if he has a title like that! He's got a high-quality sword forged from a meteorite, though I don't think they showed it in the TV show. Anyway, that guy is basically the best swordsman alive, at the time, and they've got him and his Lieutenant guarding that tower. Meanwhile, there's a war going on, so Ned asks why the best fighter wasn't at the big battle where his prince died. Arthur Dane responds, "Our prince wanted us here."
That line carries a lot of weight. What could be so important that the best fighter on the continent was stuck way down south guarding a tower with Lyanna in it? Then in episode 6x10 that part of Lyanna's whispers you COULD actually hear, "If Robert finds out, he'll kill him.(the baby) You know he will." A one-two punch of clues that are easy to overlook on first viewing. Especially since you only really hear about Lyanna in past tense, since she's been dead for about 16 years when season one starts.
Remember the first scene by the Tower of Joy in Bran's vision? Ned and his friends fought other soldiers. Taragaryan kingsguard soldiers. Think about it, just think. Why were they there? Robert and Lyanna were not married, they never slept together. I'll leave it at that. :)

That was so awesome! Worth the wait for sure. Hopefully you are not spoiled on the whole Jon thing, but I doubt it. People can’t stand not spoiling. Also don’t listen to people who say the show goes downhill from here. We all had to wait a year for season 7, and almost 2 years for season 8. All that did was give people time to complain about everything about the show. Just like people do/did with The Walking Dead. Social media ruins all shows now. Too many fuck boys out there trying to ruin it for everyone else. If you like it that’s all that matters. If you don’t then I’m sure you will let us know. When you watch a show with no time breaks it’s a different experience than what most people had. No series is perfect, but that doesn’t make it all bad. There’s a lot of awesome moments left.

Ned didn’t tell Cat because of who the father was it had to be kept secret from Robert as he hated all of that family and swore to kill them all, so by not telling Cat makes it look like she’s pissed at him which helps the cover .... Lyanna was sworn to marry Robert Baratheon but ran away with someone else ,,, hence Robert starting the war and rebellion
We never got to know what The Mountain did to the Septa. I’d say he first gouged her eyes out like he did to Oberyn, because of what Cersei said: ‘my face will be the last thing you see’. Then he probably tortured and abused her.

Also, here is the theory I have heard of why Ned didn’t tell Cat, Ned had been away at war, this war occurred when Ned was very young and newly married, so the theory would be that perhaps as a newly married man joining his house with the Tulley house (Cat’s family) he may not have known that he could trust her yet. Also, she could NOT have faked that it was hers because if Ned was off at war for a LONG time, he couldn’t have gotten her pregnant, so it would look as if she was with another man.
