      there is a really nice forshadowing sentence in the first book, when king Robert is at Winterfell with his family. Jon isn't allowed to practice sword fight with Joeffrey and Tommen like Robb and Bran do because "a bastard isnt worth to fight against a prince" (or something ike that)

    My guess is Ned would tell Jon Snow about his parents right before or after he took the oath to the Night Watch. Once Jon Snow renounced all titles and lands, he would be safe.
    I also like the theory that Benjen helped Lyanna escape to the Tower of Joy.

    5:11 he absolutely would have kept his word. if the time had ever come, Jon would’ve been bound by his Nights Watch vows so any threat of his claim to the throne would be irrelevant. Ned knew the Nights Watch was the safest place Jon could be

    When Ned had to choose between honor/duty and family, he chose family. He "dishonored" himself by pretending that he cheated on his wife to protect Jon. He dishonored himself by pleading guilty to treason (right before he was executed) to protect his daughters. I think the morale of the story is you can have your principles, your morals etc., but when it comes down to it, nothing is more important than family.

    Spoiler Alert!!!!
    This video is so masterfully done, not just in how it presents the evidence for Jon's identity, but also the way presenting Ned's choice and sacrifice at the end of it, ends up forshadowing Jon's choice and sacrifice. Because although he is Rhaegar's son, more than anything or anyone, he is Ned's son in every way that matters.

  • @keighlancoe5933
    @keighlancoe5933 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

    I think he would have told Jon, absolutely. Ned keeps his word after all, and he promised Jon, he takes promises and oaths etc very seriously. Second to that, once he was safely at the wall where he had renounced his name and titles, lands etc, he would not be able to claim the Throne so Ned would be secure in the knowledge that telling him wouldn't start a war. What I really want to know, is if Benjen was aware of his identity as well. I'm positive Ned confided in his brother.

    The part of the story in the show that is missing is the Saga of the Knight of the Laughing Tree. If it is true that Lyanna was in fact the Knight of the Laughing Tree and Rhaegar, who was sent to find him/her, did indeed find her...it adds to the answer to the question of 'Why'. awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Knight_of_the_Laughing_Tree

    • @dafarsher9738
      @dafarsher9738 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ebonheart Pact nothing says that, however given they are documented to have gone South its fair to say it is extremely unlikely that Rhaegar passed Robert and Ned’s territory and further North to the Wall following the tournament at Harrenhall. Of course Lyanna is even less likely to have visited Castle Black as despite the number of woman there during the later seasons, Westerosi women very rarely visited the Wall. She could have visited in disguise I suppose but to openly carve initials in the post within a common room frequented by the men of the Nights Watch similarly seems unlikely to me!

    This vid made me so emotional. lol To my shock, it made me realise that when Ned was so opposed about Robert killing the Targaryen girl, he was thinking of Jon too. When Ned was wanting to the L when he had his head cut off, he was not only protecting his daughters but Jon also. He died keeping the secret to the grave.
    About Baelish, I think he's the one that spread the lies about Rhaegar kidnaping Lyanna and raping her. I mean it all adds up. How has this lie been created and why? Baelish hated Brandon Stark who had injured him in battle cause Baelish loved Cat. Then after the "kidnaping" of Lyanna, the kingdom goes to Hell, pissed off Brandon Stark goes to King's Landing and he is burned alive by the Mad King. Maybe Baelish convinced Rhaegar and Lyanna to escape together. Then spread the lie. And who knows, maybe he could have sent a letter to KL to the Mad King himself passing himself as a Stark saying "we're coming for you" or something like that, making the MK even more paranoid.

  • @CLCHRD

    Pardon the rambling ass TL:DR 😂 but this is how I explained R+L=J to a friend after the season 6 reveal as it leaves us with Jon's parentage, but not his status:
    Me : So from the very start of the show, we heard of Robert's Rebellion that took down the Targeryan Dynasty. For the most part the story is told from the Baratheon/Stark viewpoint. But what if that's just one side of the coin? After the Rebellion, the story spread that Rhaegar Targeryan kidnapped & raped Lyanna. But what if this is just a case of 'history is written by winners'? In S1 we saw just how much Robert hated the Targeryans(with some justification), he didn't do anything about Tywin slaughtering all the Targeryan children. If you remember the very first scenes of Episode 1, we saw Robert & Ned in the crypts of Winterfell in front of Lyanna's statue with Robert raging about killing Rhaegar in his dreams every night cause he took his betrothed Lyanna away from him. But what if that was all jealousy & spite, what if Lyanna didn't actually love Robert? We took Robert & Ned's version of the Rebellion for granted cause the show painted them as infallible heroes from the jump, but....
    Friend : But what if they were covering up a lie the whole time?
    Me : And what lie is that?
    Friend : That Lyanna & Rhaegar loved each other. Hmm..but would Robert go out of his way to kill bastards who are not in the line of succession & so were not a threat to him?
    Me : Joffrey did.
    Friend : But Robert never came across like that. He had somewhat of a moral compass. He could still be reasonsed with. Like he spared Dany.
    Me : True. But is there something that would make sure Robert kills Jon?
    Friend : If Jon is not a bastard.
    Me : So what, he's still a vertically challenged border patrol agent with 1 facial expression throughout 8 seasons 😂😂😂

    Jon is more than a bastard, he's a great bastard because both his parents were from noble houses. They called him the White Wolf in 6x10 because in their history, sometimes bastards started their own houses and it was common for them to invert the colors on the sigil of their parents' house. And the Stark sigil is a gray wolf on white field, so it would be a white wolf for him. Big clue in the very first episode, giving Ghost to Jon.

    • @keighlancoe5933
      @keighlancoe5933 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They missed an opportunity there after the Battle of the Bastards, when the Stark banner is unfurled over the battlements, it's the old Stark sigil. It should have been a white wolf on a black background. A minor bit of symbology, but it would have been cool to see. I wish we could have seen Jon wearing his crown as well, another minor thing but it would have been interesting.

    What really moves me about this video compilation is that Maester Amon tells Jon that sometimes a man will have to choose the ones he loves over honor. That statement perfectly described Ned Stark. He allowed people to believe he wasn’t faithful to his wife because he loved his sister and it was her dying wish that he protect Jon. Ned also publicly dishonored himself to keep his family safe, but was killed by Joffrey. The last thing Ned does before he is killed - as all of the background noise fades away, is look to the statue of Baelor to confirm his friend saved Arya and that she wouldn’t have to watch him die. Heartbreaking. 😢❤️

    I think you'll notice when Sansa brings up with Littlefinger that Rhaegar kidnapped Lyanna, his facial expressions show he knew better...he's the one that had to have told Brandon Stark (Ned's older brother) that Rhaegar ran off with his sister, which started the war on a larger scale (Robert probably would've blustered about trying to rebel, but wouldn't have had the Starks or the Arryns or the Tullies and their bannermen if Brandon had not been goaded into going down to King's Landing in the first place) And do not get me started on how quickly their friendship would've severed if Robert had treated Lyanna the same way he treated Cersei (Rickard, Brandon, Ned, and Benjen...not to mention Lyanna herself...would've killed Robert for that shit...Tywin thought it was more pragmatic to look the other way, but ultimately, he did her almost as dirty as he did Tyrion)

      Not entirely true. GoT seems to follow English monarchical law. When Henry VIII for example struggled to produce a male heir, the English crown would have fallen to his bastard son, of whom he was very fond of. The only reason he wasn't legitimised was because eventually Henry did produce a male heir. Even bastard sons rank higher than natural-born daughters if there is no natural-born male heir. Usually they are legitimised
