That statement perfectly described Ned Stark. He allowed people to believe he wasn’t faithful to his wife because he loved his sister and it was her dying wish that he protect Jon. You know, on the first watch-through of this show, I took Robert to be the comedy relief. It took a second watch to appreciate what a tragic character he really is. He ended up as king because he went to war for Lyanna, who died anyway. He ended up in a loveless marriage with Cersei for strategic purposes. The scene with Robert and Cersei where she asks about Lyanna was something that wasn’t in the book, but it was really a great scene. “You want to know the horrible truth? I can’t even remember what she looked like. I only know she was the one thing I ever wanted. Someone took her away from me...and seven kingdoms couldn’t fill the hole she left behind.”
On the rewatch, I realized how ruthless and power-driven Robert was. He manipulated his friend for his own purposes, and would not have hesitated to turn on him in a second. All those scenes of Robert playing the debauched, laughing king, there's a real rage and malevolence lurking right beneath the surface.
From the very start of the show, we heard of Robert's Rebellion that took down the Targeryan Dynasty. For the most part we heard the story from the Baratheon/Stark viewpoint. We've been made to believe they're the good guys here. But what if that's just one side of the story? History's always written by the winners..After the Rebellion, they spread the story that Rhaegar Targeryan kidnapped & raped Lyanna. But what if this is just a case of the winners slandering the defeated? We saw just how much King Robert hated the Targeryans, he didn't even care about Tywin killinf all the Targeryan children. One of the very first scenes of Episode 1, we saw Robert & Ned in the crypts of Winterfell in front of Lyanna's statue with Robert raging about killing Rhaegar in his dreams every night cause he took Lyanna away from him. But what if that was all jealously & spite? What if Lyanna didn't actually love Robert? Then is Jon a rape baby? We took Robert & Ned's version of the Rebellion for granted. Season 7 will answer if part of the story was built on a lie.
The scene with Ned in the cell, is pivotal, Ned is feverish and he dreams of the battle with the King's Guards and Lyanna asking him for a promise. The promise is echoed in his mind in many scenes including the one with the prostitute with Robert's bastard.
The clues are all there, in what you just posted. Ned is the most honorable man ever, and to protect his sister's son, was willing to call Jon his own bastard, rather than reveal his true parentage. As Lyanna said to him on her deathbed, 'You can't let Robert know; he will kill him.'

Jon is Dany's nephew and Ned send him to the Wall because Robert would have killed him that's why he rubbed it on Robert when he said he can't get his hands on all Targaryens. Littlefinger looked like that at Sansa because he knew Rhaegar didn't hurt Lyanna, like Selmy said he was a champion of people who's soldiers admired and loved him. Selmy said to Dany that Rhaegar didn't liked to fight but to sing, just like Jon told Sansa that he never enjoyed being at war.
Ned did not send Jon to the wall, it was Jon’s decision because he didn’t feel welcomed by Kat and Sansa. Ned agreed because it would’ve been easier for Jon to not experience all the hate from Kat.

As you can also see, Robert HATES anyone with Targaryen blood, because he blames a Targaryen for killing the woman he loves. Since Jon has Targaryen blood, as Lyanna's dying wish she wanted Ned to raise/protect him as his own. Ned covered up who Jon really was by keeping his identity a secret creating a story that would be negative for his reputation as an honorable man (which is just making him so much more honorable lol). ^Everything that is confusing about this to you will have answers provided as you continue to watch.

(may include some spoilers) My take is that Lyanna was promised to Robert, but she LOVED Rhaegar. By all accounts outside of the Baratheon influence, Rhaegar was actually a good dude. He divorced his wife so that he could get with Lyanna. I guess it was easier for Robert's mind and pride to think that she was kidnapped and taken against her will instead of "burning rubber" (Gap Band reference for you young'uns, lol) to be with Rhaegar. Robert, in his jealousy waged a whole war on the Targaryens. Partly because the King was crazy, but MOSTLY because Lyanna bounced. Lyanna KNEW that Robert wouldn't hesitate to kill her baby, so she had Ned swear to keep the secret.

Danny is Jon's aunt. Raegar was her older brother. He was married to Ilia Martel... another arranged marriage. He loved Lyanna and depending on who you ask, "kidnapped " her or "ran away" with her. Lyanna inadvertently got Rhaegar's attention by disguising herself as a knight to participate in the tournament. She beat her opponent, but refused to remove her helm or speak. She was known for being a tomboy, and in the books much is made about how Arya is so like her aunt Lyanna, and of course we have this really strong connection between Jon and Arya, etc.
King Robert was married to Lyanna Stark and Rheagar was married to Oberyn´s sister. Lyanna disappeared with Rheagar, Robert claimed she was kidnapped, so he started a war against the Targaryan´s to get her back. Robert won the war and killed Rheagar Targaryan (Babydolls brother). Robert wanted to end the WHOLE Targaryan bloodline, so he killed Oberyn´s sister and her and Rheagars children (which is the reason Oberyn fought the mountain in Tyrion´s trial by combat, to avenge his sister). Robert didn´t manage to kill the whole Targaryan bloodline because Dany and her brother got away. At the end of the war young Ned found his sister Lyanna in a tower protected by Targaryan´s best soldiers, giving birth to Jon. The remaining mystery that this video tries to answer is: Who is the father? and why did the honorable Ned tell people he cheated on his wife instead of just telling people that Lyanna was Jon´s mother? In this video Aemon is talking about the choice between honor/duty and love/family. What if you one day had to choose? Ned (a very honorable person) choose to dishonor himself when he lied and claimed Jon was his son by some random woman he met during the war. He also choose dishonor when he got executed by Jeoffrey, he dishonored himself by admitting to something he didn´t do. When Ned had to choose, he chose love and family over honor and duty.

I love how we get all these little clues along the way, but we're so caught up in the present timeline of the story that we miss the significance. It's crazy how much carnage came from the way people interpreted one single event.

Promise me Ned. Promise me" So Ned kept his promise. He took this boy as his own, and never told a soul. Even though it meant tarnishing his honour and deeply hurting his wife, who he loved dearly. But he did it because if Robert found out he would have marched on Winterfell and killed all of the Starks.
There is a reason the Book Series is called a Song of Ice & Fire. The in books there is a greater focus on prophecy that the show has chosen to bypass, it occassional refrences some prophecy like Cersei and a little girl visiting a woods witch that gives her tthe prophecy that (predicts the death of her 3 children before her). The big underlying prophecy is about the Prince that was Promised. It was believed that Rhaegar Targaryen was the Prince that was Promised who was to be the saviour from the Night that Never Ends. He is said to be the champion against the darkness and is the bringer of light. This prophecy mirrors The legend of Azor Ahai comes from ancient texts in Asshai that say a champion of R'hllor, the Lord of Light, will be reborn to fight a darkness with his sword Lightbringer. It has been said that Rhaegar Targaryen read something in a book that changed him and he began to believe his son would be that Prince that is promised. Many believe what he read was the promissd one will be the offspring who's bloodline is of Ice & Fire. The Starks (Ice) and Fire Targaryens. The book's tell the story from various Point of Characters perspectives so you know their thoughts. And this also presents confusion of facts. Like Rheagar kidnapping and raping Lianna, which is the Robert Barantheon perspective but truth is something entirely different. Lianna was in love with Rhaegar. Baby Doll is his Aunt.

If you had watched this live. Who is Jon Snows mother was all the discussion for six years. With almost all the clue from the first season. Eddard Stark was a honorable man. But willing to lie to save his family. You know the way family arguments go. The Stark's insisted Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna. But Littlefinger had that smirk like he knew something. Rhaegar Targaryen was the eldest son and in an arranged marriage with Elia Martell. They had two children. Still a bit of a debate on who had Elia and the two children murdered. I still have my questions on why Tywin Lannister would have had them murdered. He could have had Jamie marry Elia and become king, maintaining the loyalty of the Martells. Then send the male child to the Night Watch. My theory it was Lyanna who arranged everything. She conspired to having Rhaegar first wife killed and possibly her children. She would then show up with Rhaegar only living direct male heir. Become the queen if Rhaegar had lived. Become the mother of the king if Rhaegar and Elia died. But Lyanna died in childbirth. Leaving Tywin the option of Jaime claiming the kingdom (he did sit on the throne) or Cersei marrying the next king.

Rhaegar is the Madking's son. Viserys and Daenerys, his other two children, weren't born until much, much later, when Rhaegar was an adult. Jon, being Rhaegar's son, makes him Dany's nephew. The books complicate matters further because Aegon, Rhaegar's first son, is still alive. That makes Daenerys third in line for the throne. However, the legitimacy of Aegon and Jon's claims can be contested because there's no real proof that Aegon's who he claims to be, and Jon's still a bastard. But then there's Robb's will that he wrote right before the Red Wedding that legitimises Jon. That will is currently with Howland Reed (Jojen and Meera's father) and there are a number of other characters who knows about that will, including Catelyn Stark, who's still alive in the books (well... kind of). That said, Daenerys might just brush it off and say that Robb was a pretender and that he had no authority to legitimise a bastard. It's save to say that the final two books are going to get... interesting.
Aegon in the books claims to be Rhaegar's son, but it doesn't seem likely. History is filled with pretenders to the throne who weren't who they and their backers claimed they were, and GRRM would certainly love to play with political machinations of that sort. The books are all characters' points of view, no all-knowing narrator. It's on the reader to figure it out, and you can't take anything at face value.

Jon is the only living memory of Lyanna, A Dragon raised by Wolves.
After Brandon died Ned was quickly married to Catelyn as well. He didn't know her. Plus when he grew to know her he knew that if it came down to protecting her own family and selling Jon out, she'd do it.

You know, on the first watch-through of this show, I took Robert to be the comedy relief. It took a second watch to appreciate what a tragic character he really is. He ended up as king because he went to war for Lyanna, who died anyway. He ended up in a loveless marriage with Cersei for strategic purposes. The scene with Robert and Cersei where she asks about Lyanna was something that wasn’t in the book, but it was really a great scene.

On the rewatch, I realized how ruthless and power-driven Robert was. He manipulated his friend for his own purposes, and would not have hesitated to turn on him in a second. All those scenes of Robert playing the debauched, laughing king, there's a real rage and malevolence lurking right beneath the surface.

From the very start of the show, we heard of Robert's Rebellion that took down the Targeryan Dynasty. For the most part we heard the story from the Baratheon/Stark viewpoint. We've been made to believe they're the good guys here. But what if that's just one side of the story? History's always written by the winners..After the Rebellion, they spread the story that Rhaegar Targeryan kidnapped & raped Lyanna. But what if this is just a case of the winners slandering the defeated? We saw just how much King Robert hated the Targeryans, he didn't even care about Tywin killinf all the Targeryan children. One of the very first scenes of Episode 1, we saw Robert & Ned in the crypts of Winterfell in front of Lyanna's statue with Robert raging about killing Rhaegar in his dreams every night cause he took Lyanna away from him. But what if that was all jealously & spite? What if Lyanna didn't actually love Robert? Then is Jon a rape baby? We took Robert & Ned's version of the Rebellion for granted. Season 7 will answer if part of the story was built on a lie.

The scene with Ned in the cell, is pivotal, Ned is feverish and he dreams of the battle with the King's Guards and Lyanna asking him for a promise. The promise is echoed in his mind in many scenes including the one with the prostitute with Robert's bastard.
The clues are all there, in what you just posted. Ned is the most honorable man ever, and to protect his sister's son, was willing to call Jon his own bastard, rather than reveal his true parentage. As Lyanna said to him on her deathbed, 'You can't let Robert know; he will kill him.'

Jon is Dany's nephew and Ned send him to the Wall because Robert would have killed him that's why he rubbed it on Robert when he said he can't get his hands on all Targaryens. Littlefinger looked like that at Sansa because he knew Rhaegar didn't hurt Lyanna, like Selmy said he was a champion of people who's soldiers admired and loved him. Selmy said to Dany that Rhaegar didn't liked to fight but to sing, just like Jon told Sansa that he never enjoyed being at war.

Ned did not send Jon to the wall, it was Jon’s decision because he didn’t feel welcomed by Kat and Sansa. Ned agreed because it would’ve been easier for Jon to not experience all the hate from Kat.

Jon was basically the prince that was promised. Ned promised Lyanna he would keep Jon a secret as Robert who could never have her wanted every Targarian murdered. Season 7 will explain more and there is a lot of back story in the books on how Lyanna and Rhagar got together.
Big respect to MR Williams pointing out Rhaegar was already married with two children. Rhaegar might have loved the people, but he was a terrible husband.

Rhaegar was married to a Dornish princess (Elia, Oberon's sister) He left Elia for another woman. Lyanna, Ned's sister, was promised to Robert, and Robert loved her. Ned attempted to save Lyanna from Rhaegar at the tower. When he found Lyanna she was dying after childbirth. Jon Snow is her son, not Ned's. He lied to everyone to protect Jon's life, because Robert was killing all of the Targayians. Dani is Jon's aunt. (sister to his father)
Rhaegar was married to Oberyn Martell's (dude who fought against the Mountain for Tyrion) sister. He kidnapped Lyanna Stark (who was engaged to Robert Baratheon) and raped her. This is what essentially caused Robert's Rebellion, which led to Robert becoming king.
You see in the show the flashbacks (Bran's visions) to Ned and his group fighting some of the last remaining Kings-guard of the Targaryens at the Tower of Joy. After the Kings-guard are defeated, Ned goes up the tower to find his dying sister having given birth - to who you now know is Jon.
As you can also see, Robert HATES anyone with Targaryen blood, because he blames a Targaryen for killing the woman he loves. Since Jon has Targaryen blood, as Lyanna's dying wish she wanted Ned to raise/protect him as his own. Ned covered up who Jon really was by keeping his identity a secret creating a story that would be negative for his reputation as an honorable man (which is just making him so much more honorable lol).

My take is that Lyanna was promised to Robert, but she LOVED Rhaegar. By all accounts outside of the Baratheon influence, Rhaegar was actually a good dude. He divorced his wife so that he could get with Lyanna. I guess it was easier for Robert's mind and pride to think that she was kidnapped and taken against her will instead of "burning rubber" (Gap Band reference for you young'uns, lol) to be with Rhaegar. Robert, in his jealousy waged a whole war on the Targaryens. Partly because the King was crazy, but MOSTLY because Lyanna bounced.
Lyanna KNEW that Robert wouldn't hesitate to kill her baby, so she had Ned swear to keep the secret.

Lyanna inadvertently got Rhaegar's attention by disguising herself as a knight to participate in the tournament. She beat her opponent, but refused to remove her helm or speak. She was known for being a tomboy, and in the books much is made about how Arya is so like her aunt Lyanna, and of course we have this really strong connection between Jon and Arya, etc.
King Robert was married to Lyanna Stark and Rheagar was married to Oberyn´s sister. Lyanna disappeared with Rheagar, Robert claimed she was kidnapped, so he started a war against the Targaryan´s to get her back. Robert won the war and killed Rheagar Targaryan (Babydolls brother). Robert wanted to end the WHOLE Targaryan bloodline, so he killed Oberyn´s sister and her and Rheagars children (which is the reason Oberyn fought the mountain in Tyrion´s trial by combat, to avenge his sister). Robert didn´t manage to kill the whole Targaryan bloodline because Dany and her brother got away.
At the end of the war young Ned found his sister Lyanna in a tower protected by Targaryan´s best soldiers, giving birth to
Jon. The remaining mystery that this video tries to answer is: Who is the father? and why did the honorable Ned tell people he cheated on his wife instead of just telling people that Lyanna was Jon´s mother? In this video Aemon is talking about the choice between honor/duty and love/family. What if you one day had to choose? Ned (a very honorable person) choose to dishonor himself when he lied and claimed Jon was his son by some random woman he met during the war. He also choose dishonor when he got executed by Jeoffrey, he dishonored himself by admitting to something he didn´t do. When Ned had to choose, he chose love and family over honor and duty.

I love how we get all these little clues along the way, but we're so caught up in the present timeline of the story that we miss the significance. It's crazy how much carnage came from the way people interpreted one single event.

So Ned kept his promise. He took this boy as his own, and never told a soul. Even though it meant tarnishing his honour and deeply hurting his wife, who he loved dearly. But he did it because if Robert found out he would have marched on Winterfell and killed all of the Starks.

There is a reason the Book Series is called a Song of Ice & Fire. The in books there is a greater focus on prophecy that the show has chosen to bypass, it occassional refrences some prophecy like Cersei and a little girl visiting a woods witch that gives her tthe prophecy that (predicts the death of her 3 children before her). The big underlying prophecy is about the Prince that was Promised. It was believed that Rhaegar Targaryen was the Prince that was Promised who was to be the saviour from the Night that Never Ends. He is said to be the champion against the darkness and is the bringer of light.
This prophecy mirrors The legend of Azor Ahai comes from ancient texts in Asshai that say a champion of R'hllor, the Lord of Light, will be reborn to fight a darkness with his sword Lightbringer. It has been said that Rhaegar Targaryen read something in a book that changed him and he began to believe his son would be that Prince that is promised. Many believe what he read was the promissd one will be the offspring who's bloodline is of Ice & Fire. The Starks (Ice) and Fire Targaryens.
The book's tell the story from various Point of Characters perspectives so you know their thoughts. And this also presents confusion of facts. Like Rheagar kidnapping and raping Lianna, which is the Robert Barantheon perspective but truth is something entirely different. Lianna was in love with Rhaegar. Baby Doll is his Aunt.
Lyanna was engaged to Robert but they didn't get married. Elia Martell ( who was married to Rhaegar Targaryen ) was raped and killed as well as her children under the order of Tywin Lannister during the war. He sacked the city and then Jaime killed the Mad King.
Also... honorable man or not, what kind of a man just leaves someone like that? I never liked Rhaegar.

Ned wouldn’t tell anyone, not even Cat because he knew that if word got out, Robert would kill Jon and Ned had promised Lyanna to protect Jon. So Ned lied to everyone to protect Jon.

If you had watched this live. Who is Jon Snows mother was all the discussion for six years. With almost all the clue from the first season.
Eddard Stark was a honorable man. But willing to lie to save his family.
You know the way family arguments go. The Stark's insisted Rhaegar kidnapped and raped Lyanna. But Littlefinger had that smirk like he knew something.

Still a bit of a debate on who had Elia and the two children murdered. I still have my questions on why Tywin Lannister would have had them murdered. She conspired to having Rhaegar first wife killed and possibly her children. She would then show up with Rhaegar only living direct male heir. Become the queen if Rhaegar had lived. Become the mother of the king if Rhaegar and Elia died. But Lyanna died in childbirth. Leaving Tywin the option of Jaime claiming the kingdom (he did sit on the throne) or Cersei marrying the next king.

Mr. Williams all you needed to do was to pay closer attention to the part of when the young Ned Stark & his crew arrive at the castle to take on Ser Arthur Dayne (The knight with the 2 swords), during Bran's vision. The 30 seconds of conversation between Ned Stark & Ser Arthur Dayne, says all you need to know. You didn't need someone else's video to explain things to you.
I personally don't like to get my mind corrupted by some outside videos of theories & explanations of what's going to happen or happening. This is what makes your reactions pure, because it's Live & not corrupted by outside forces. There was about a 2 year hiatus between season 7 & 8. Too many theories, personal videos from people thinking they were the new screenwriters of GOT. I only wanted to hear & see what the GOT people had in store for me because they never disappointed.

Rhaegar is the Madking's son. Viserys and Daenerys, his other two children, weren't born until much, much later, when Rhaegar was an adult. Jon, being Rhaegar's son, makes him Dany's nephew. The books complicate matters further because Aegon, Rhaegar's first son, is still alive. That makes Daenerys third in line for the throne. However, the legitimacy of Aegon and Jon's claims can be contested because there's no real proof that Aegon's who he claims to be, and Jon's still a bastard. But then there's Robb's will that he wrote right before the Red Wedding that legitimises Jon. That will is currently with Howland Reed (Jojen and Meera's father) and there are a number of other characters who knows about that will, including Catelyn Stark, who's still alive in the books (well... kind of). That said, Daenerys might just brush it off and say that Robb was a pretender and that he had no authority to legitimise a bastard.
It's save to say that the final two books are going to get... interesting.
Aegon in the books claims to be Rhaegar's son, but it doesn't seem likely. History is filled with pretenders to the throne who weren't who they and their backers claimed they were, and GRRM would certainly love to play with political machinations of that sort. The books are all characters' points of view, no all-knowing narrator. It's on the reader to figure it out, and you can't take anything at face value.
I recommend you to read the game of thrones books. I know a lotta niggas dont like reading but it’s even better than the show.
