He's downplaying everything, but that is important, too. That means that while he was taking care of you, he never, ever, ever made you feel like a burden.
This is real, true, love. He is respectful of you and your relationship with him.although not talked about, both of you have a deep faith in God. Thank you both for sharing this story, and I hope it helps anyone going through the same thing.
I'm watching this with tears in my eyes! What a wonderful man, to stand by your side, through thick and thin! Thank you, for sharing this very personal journey with us. You're both such an inspiration and will no doubt help others, who have to travel down this road! Oliver was "soaking up" all the love and massages, that Doug was bestowing on him lol Just precious! ❤
Melissa, you made such a good choice in your Doug. A calm, cool, smart man by your side is the best husband. I believed and still believe you made the right decision to have them both removed and that worry to be gone from your heart and mind. I would make the same choice. As a child of a mother dying of breast cancer, and two aunts….we do go through life with that worry in the back of our minds. Thank you Doug, for being so good and supportive to Melissa. We all love her so much, hugs judy
Judy, I really think I made the best decision too. I just would have worried all the time that it would have come back. I am so very sorry about your mom and aunts. It's so hard to see this. Sending you all my love and thanks, Melissa
It makes a world of difference to have support. My son, a physician, flew in for the surgery and first week. My daughter cleaned and cooked. My husband did everything… so grateful. And Melissa I’m so glad you are doing well!
What a wonderful family you have! I felt bad for my son because he had just moved his family out of state and started school to be a minister so he had all that pressure on him and couldn't really help. But we sure are blessed aren't we? Thank you and you take care of yourself.
The way your husband cared for you-tending to your drains and supporting you after your double mastectomy-reflects a profound intimacy. It reaches deep into the soul, forging a connection that flows from the heart.
Thank you and you know something, I so agree. Isn't that intimacy? Caring for the not so pretty needs of the other, and just knowing that person, literally, down deep. Thank you!
You were blessed to have married such a caring husband and so lucky that he was such a participant in your breast cancer journey. I am on the tail end of treatment for my breast cancer, finished up on radiation and now moving on to the drug phase, my husband has been pretty much silent since I was diagnosed..it’s been a lonely journey for me, the FB support group I found was the best thing I could have found …a large group of supportive women with a few men, who like your husband joined to help their wives or partners. God bless you and Doug.
Marcia I cannot tell you how very sorry I am for going through breast cancer and for feeling like you are alone. Thank goodness for the support group. I wanted to join them, but I just couldn't. And I don't know why. It's was like I couldn't admit I had it or I couldn't think about it. I tried to shove it to the back of my mind. I send you all my best wishes. You are such a strong women. Much love, Melissa
Doug is the man every woman would love to have as a husband, partner. I've missed seeing Doug in your videos. Hat's off to Doug and I'm so very happy that he was here to pull you along Melissa. You too are AMAZING! XOXO
Melissa what a beautiful story of your love for each other. Doug is precious and you are so fortunate to have him in your life. You two are so precious together! And your adorable pup. Just getting massaged thru the video and loving every minute of it !! Melissa I pray for you every day.
When my mom was diagnosed with lymphoma, she didn't want to look up anything online either. It was weird because she was always active online prior to her diagnosis. I was the one to research and read and read. Your husband sounds like a great, supportive life partner.
Thank you. Yes, I think you kind of realize there is just so much your mind can handle and I knew I couldn't handle any more. I sure appreciate it and I hope your mom is ok!
Hi Melissa, you two are just the sweetest people! He certainly is a great supporter! I am so proud of you both! I do understand about not wanting to be in a support group. It can sometimes be depressing. Doug’s a keeper! I know we are glad you’re here! Thanks for sharing this!
God Bless you Doug. What a loving, caring, Godly thing you did throughout Melissa’s ordeal. I’m much like Mellisa and I would be so thankful for the loving support you gave your wife. I’m a widow, my husband was also very supportive. May God Bless you both always.🙏🏻✝️❤️🙏🏻
My best friend is fighting breast cancer. We've been friends since we were just teenagers. She introduced me to my husband. Her body struggled so badly recovering from just the original lumpectomies that when they realized she had two forms of breast cancer, one more aggressive, determining she needed a double mastectomy, they were concerned about doing both at once. She had one side done, and her body really struggled with recovering. It just wouldn't heal and was a long process. needing a vacuum inserted to aid healing and busting open, needing emergency surgery. Now she has to get ready for having the other side done and starting it all over again, and this is after two rounds of severe chemo, losing her hair, etc. I lost my husband, my mother and my other best friend within 18 months right when she was diagnosed, so I can't lose her too. As I told her, while we are all saggy, her boobs will be magnificent!
My heart just breaks for you and all the people that love her. And it just makes you wonder - why? Why do people like your friend have to suffer when there are other mean as snake people that are perfectly healthy. You have experienced so my tragedy in the last 18 months, it's hard to imagine. I send you my deepest condolences. Much love to you, Melissa
Hi Melissa! Such a sweet loving husband is Doug. He helped you when you couldn’t help yourself. He was there when you needed him. I applaud him. God bless. Love and Kindness, Teresa
Doug truly loves you and is a good man. To me, there are NOT too many men like that. They are very hard to find. I am a retired RN, 64. Wondering if Doug has a brother? Lol
He really is a good man. He did have two brothers, but they have both passed away, but they were the same way. Very loving. They got that from their father. He was so sweet and devoted to Doug's mother. Take care and I sure appreciate it.
Doug is a great guy. You can see the love between you two. This is what real love is about. God bless you both and thank you so much Doug for being such a great husband to your gorgeous wife. I wish you both all great things. Enjoyed meeting him on here. ♥️♥️♥️♥️♥️🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Beautiful story. Beautiful relationship. And this video is full of excellent tips, like 1) give the patient time to get used to things and 2) do research through talking to patients/survivors and 3) laugh! Thanks for sharing this valuable information!
Thank you, Carolyn. He really did and I was so touched when he came to me with all that information. Oh don't you worry about that. I'm holding on to him if he'll have me! I appreciate it!
This is what marriage is all about! Doug is such a good husband, he reminds me of mine. I have always said God dropped him right in my life at just the right time. Doug is a keeper but so are you Melissa!!
After a recent mammo, I was just diagnosed with breast cancer. I don't have family in this state to assist, and my son lives cross country, so this is going to be a challenging journey, I'm sure juggling both work and my recovery.
I can't tell you how sorry I am. Is this a place you live where you have some long-time friends that can help you? And I so hope your work will be understanding and supportive. It just made me realize that there needs to be a support system for people that don't live near family. Because it's those practical things that you will need.. Do you follow me on Instagram? If so would you send me a private message so I can' kind of keep up with you? Bless you, Rosanne.
@Melissa55 I have a couple of work friends, but they're busy with family. Next week, I'll get my MRI results and proposed course of action. Of course, I'm entitled to some time off from work after surgery. Just pray I'm early stage. I'll have to navigate this solo it seems. Unfortunately, I'm not on Instagram but may open an account. I appreciate your compassion and understanding. 💜
Girl, this was the sweetest tribute to a darling & supportive hubby! I loved it. I have a super supportive husband like him. We are so so blessed & I'm so happy for you both that things turned out the way they did. Kiddos Doug! We live you as much as we live your sweet lady!
My husband is like Doug. I was sick right from our wedding day so he lived his vows from the very start. When I had my breast reduction last year he also changed my dressings every day even though I know he is squeamish. I am so glad you have each other. ❤
You're so lucky Dougs an absolute champion. Not many men could step up like that. Maybe I'm wrong. So glad you have him. And Ollie what a beautiful little Doggy. Thankyou Doug ❤❤❤xxx 🐶🐾🐾
What a wonderful man! Having been through a really tough breast cancer journey I can appreciate how much having this support means. God bless you both.
Doug is a Sweetie and you do the same for him. This world is blessed to have so many good people in it. My hubby is the same and anyone can find a nice partner if they do the effort and look and also be healed themselves. Sometime it would be interesting to hear how you and Doug found each other- your love story.
You two are the best and you bring out the best in each other! You made me laugh when you threw your arms like you did mimicking how you had to maneuver. I called them my t-rex arms and can relate so much! Those darn drains were the worst part of my entire experience with my prophylactic double mastectomy. I'm so glad you and Doug have each other. Thank you again so much for sharing your experience and Doug being willing to share his. You're both helping so many people! 💗
Yes, the t-rex arms!!! And it takes a while to get them back to full use again! The drains were really hard. I am so sorry you had to go through a mastectomy and hope you are doing well now. Sending you many thanks!
Doug is a real Man...God bless him. I wish you would stop feeling guilty for your health issues ...you r an Angel....beautiful inside & out. Previous marriage.❤⚘️
Wonderful video! Thank you for sharing your experience and knowledge. You are each other’s divine compliment and a testament to a lovely marriage. Stay well and many blessings to you both.♥
Melissa this brought tears to my eyes while viewing - the good tears - tears of a love between a man and his wife you have the love of a man that women long for and I know that love is mutual as I see the love between you two - God richly blessed you both love and TH-cam friendship always - Joyce ps Doug is the definition of masculine manhood ( devotion sacrifice service etc) that America so desperately needs ❤
This reminds me of my and my husband’s relationship, I miss him so much he passed suddenly in 2022 . I had breast cancer in 2000 when I was 40.he was very attentive to me like your husband! Keep loving and caring for each other. You 2 are amazing! Love and prayers from Canada ❤
I'm so happy Doug (and Oliver) agreed to do this video, Melissa!!! He really is a role model on how to take care of a loved one. God sure did put you two together for a reason. Love you, my beautiful friend...MaryEllen
😂😂 It really is the best medicine when your partner makes you laugh Mellissa, just like Doug makes you laugh ,very evident at the end of this video . The love from you both to each other just radiates ❤.
Melissa I am so glad you made it through. You’re the sweetest. You and Doug are an outstanding example of a healthy relationship and unconditional LOVE. Love watching your videos together , been watching here and there for the last 7 - 10 years or so❤
Ahhhh Melissa thank you for sharing! I, to, have gone thru a double mastectomy ( same time my daughter did also and she was pregnant when diagnosed.) Both Braca 1 gene. My daughter passed away from her cancer. My husband also did my drains & thank God. I am now 73, this all happened 15 years ago. I have been in shock since. My life just blew up. My daughter was also my very best friend. Life is so hard. May God continue to Bless YOU.
Thank you for doing these videos. I’m going to have a double mastectomy soon and it is overwhelming all the emotions and data that comes at you so quickly. I’m trying to decide about reconstruction.
Melissa, you are an inspiration to me. You’re a beautiful lady that shared a terrible ordeal that we all may face one day. It is obvious that Doug did for you not only becjase a marriage commitment but because he loves you and you do him. Thank you both for this time you shared. God bless you both
Having just gone through it myself, it really does help to have a supportive, calm person as your other half. My husband asked all the questions I didn't think to ask, grilled the surgeon, radiologist and oncologist about statistics etc. that I would have thought about. Once the radiation was over, and I started on the Anastrazole - nothing!! Back to the way it was before the surgery - as if he was exhausted from supporting me and needed a break!
My Doug was incredible, as well. Maybe it’s the name? Haha. Naw, we just got incredibly blessed with our loves. So glad to see you both on the other side of this story.
I want to play with Oliver's ears! Love you both so much. Thank you for this video. Not only the information but for setting the bar high for me to follow your example in my marriage. I really do love this ❤️ love that you honored him. So important.
So glad you have so much support from Doug. Cancer feels like such a lonely battle sometimes even when you have lots of friends and family around because it is ultimately you that has to accept it and come to terms with it in your own way and on your terms. My husband was there for me every step of the way when I had kidney cancer over 15 years. He changed dressings for me because I didn’t want to see the incisions. LOL. I got over it and moved on but I will always be grateful for all the people who rallied around when I needed them most.
Thank you so much for sharing this with me. It must have been such a hard time for you. Kidney cancer sounds so very serious. I hope you are ok now. Take care! And thank you.
Melissa, because of your story I started doing the same 6 month routine you did. Mammogram every 6 months and a breast MRI every 6 months. Thank you!❤ And Doug!! You are a kind amazing and ❤man
Hi Melissa I haven't even watched all the way through yet, but can i just say i LOVE Doug...what a man! Lucky you - he sounds wonderfully supportive and a talented man too. Wishing you both much health and happiness ❤❤
I did my drains by myself 4 years ago. I was so happy when the last drain was removed! I was never given an apron for my drains. That may have been helpful.
This is what marriage is meant to be, in sickness and in health. What a blessing❤❤
I feel so blessed Patricia. He really is just a great man.
You two are so cute together! I wish all women could have a Doug or Jim in their life (if they want one!). Great video Melissa and Doug..Patti 🌷
Patti, I was thinking of your sweet videos of how you and Jim met while I was watching this.
I do too. I really do feel so blessed. Thank you, Patti!
What a wonderful man you have Melissa and he a wonderful woman! Just lovely to see a solid love and marriage like this!
aw, thank you for that. I really feel so very blessed.
He's downplaying everything, but that is important, too. That means that while he was taking care of you, he never, ever, ever made you feel like a burden.
❤❤❤
That's such a good point, Chris. He takes things in stride, at least to me, and that helps me with the guilt so I can heal.
This is real, true, love. He is respectful of you and your relationship with him.although not talked about, both of you have a deep faith in God. Thank you both for sharing this story, and I hope it helps anyone going through the same thing.
Amazing husband!! God Bless him what a gem he is and of course Bless you ❤

When you love someone, it's not gross. It's love. He would walk through fire to make you better. It's obvious.
Thank you. I know I would walk through fire for him!!!

I appreciate you being here !
He really does. When he got covid, I was almost glad (well not glad really) but more just happy I could help take care of him for a change. Thank you!
Beautiful couple!! Doug is a wonderful man.....such a blessing for you Melissa!❤
He really is Heather. I feel so blessed.
Thanks Doug and Oliver for taking care of your beautiful wife.
What a sweet comment. Thank you!
What a kind, kind, man. Helping you and letting you find your way. So sweet❤️

You have an angel there. Your husband is special.
He’s a good man and husband. We all know how grateful you are to you. But that is why we love them. ❤️
Doug taking care of your shower and hair is one of the most loving and caring things I have ever heard. You are cute together.
It really was. Because he knew how much better it would make me feel. Thank you!
What a peach! Doug seems like such a nice person, what a treasure!
Thank you, Sheryl. He really is just a nice man.

Doug is a real sweetheart. You are so lucky to have someone who loves you and cares for you.
I sure am. Thank you, Emily.
It just wouldn't heal and was a long process. needing a vacuum inserted to aid healing and busting open, needing emergency surgery.
A hug being sent to you. Unimaginable losses you have endured. Prayers up for your friend and you 🙏
Hold on! you are a magnificent friend and she will get through this. You will too, I am so sorry for your losses.
Hi Melissa!
Such a sweet loving husband is Doug. He helped you when you couldn’t help yourself. He was there when you needed him. I applaud him. God bless. Love and Kindness, Teresa
Thank you, Teresa. It's why I just felt called to do this video. I wanted to publicly acknowledge what he did. Thank you!
Doug truly loves you and is a good man. To me, there are NOT too many men like that. They are very hard to find. I am a retired RN, 64. Wondering if Doug has a brother? Lol

Thank you, Sandy. I just can't tell you how blessed I feel. Truly.
Beautiful guy! Beautiful couple! ❤
Beautiful story. Beautiful relationship. And this video is full of excellent tips, like 1) give the patient time to get used to things and 2) do research through talking to patients/survivors and 3) laugh! Thanks for sharing this valuable information!
Those are such good points, Kristin. And the laugh point can't be stressed enough. It was vital. Thank you and much love!
Doug is awesome and a wonderful care taker! I am so glad he was there for you. Hugs!
I have a Doug and I’m so grateful❤
We are blessed.

Tears in my eyes! This is true love💕😊

Thanks for the update your husband seems very nice🎉🎉
What a beautiful gesture in calling attention to the help that was offered with love. ❤
I’m pretty certain you are the two sweetest people on this earth. God bless Doug. Both of you! 💓💓💓
Melissa I am so glad you made it through. You’re the sweetest. You and Doug are an outstanding example of a healthy relationship and unconditional LOVE.
Love watching your videos together , been watching here and there for the last 7 - 10 years or so❤

Doug loves you and knew how to care for you, a beautiful example of a loving relationship. Thanks for sharing. ❤
Thank you for doing these videos. I’m going to have a double mastectomy soon and it is overwhelming all the emotions and data that comes at you so quickly. I’m trying to decide about reconstruction.
A good man. Compassionate supportive, caring. ❤❤❤
Melissa, you are an inspiration to me. You’re a beautiful lady that shared a terrible ordeal that we all may face one day. It is obvious that Doug did for you not only becjase a marriage commitment but because he loves you and you do him. Thank you both for this time you shared. God bless you both
Wow! What a blessing Doug is. I am happy that you have recovered and had such an amazing caregiver.
Melissa, so Gr8 that Doug was so positive and such a help and comfort to you, along with Oliver❤
Sending healing wishes to his sister as well!!!
You're a wonderful lady....and you sure did merry yourself a good man...he is so kind. Deserving of each other
Melissa you are such a gift of love and joy!!! Doug is a wonderful man truly the two of you are the perfect couple. Many blessings to you both!!!
You're such a lovely couple! God bless!
So glad to see you both on the other side of this story.
lol. It might be the name. But yes, we are incredibly blessed with our partners. Thank you and you take care!
Doug is such a wonderful husband with a heart of gold. ❤️🌺
He really is. He is very tender-hearted. Thank you.
You've got yourself a great man, Melissa! So glad you're well now.
Doug is a keeper...as is my husband also. God has blessed us!
You are blessed a marriage made in heaven ❤❤
I want to play with Oliver's ears!
Love you both so much. Thank you for this video. Not only the information but for setting the bar high for me to follow your example in my marriage. I really do love this ❤️ love that you honored him. So important.
Melissa , what a beautiful couple you are! May God bless both of you with health and happiness ❤
What a lovely couple you are....and I adore how your dog is enjoying his head massage throughout the video!❤
God bless Doug for being such a great supporter, What a wonderful person
Awwww Doug is one of your biggest blessings and we love him
It’s really nice to have a support system like Doug. You are blessed. ❤
I really am, Vera. So blessed.
Awww, he loves you so much! I’m so happy for both of you that the bump in the road is now in the rear view mirror.
Wow!! Doug is amazing!!!! ❤
Melissa, because of your story I started doing the same 6 month routine you did. Mammogram every 6 months and a breast MRI every 6 months. Thank you!❤
And Doug!! You are a kind amazing and ❤man
Best couple ever! We adore you guys! ❤
Y’all both are so blessed. Doug you and Oliver are MVP’s. ♥️
Love that you two done this. And kudos to Doug for being such great support. God Bless
This is what love looks like. Bless you both!
Happy Saturday Melissa!!!❤
And the same to you, Angel Girl!
