Just bought my second one (sold original one several years ago as needed something with more trunk space - SL320) and what a lovely, inexpensive vehicle it still is. 17 years old, 55k miles and eager to eat up the road!
@@progste Too early to say with this example, but the 1999 230k I had way back was very reliable and I don't recall any major expenditure. My previous Merc was an S350 (2007), and that seriously emptied my bank account...23mpg, £550 VED, etc so the SLK is a welcome relief!
We are all different with different requirements, however, I was surprised that there was just ok space for me in the car. I have not had a problem with the space in the 3 years I have driven it, a fun and nice car to drive. Regards Kingofarctic
love your review,ive got a 97 slk230k its done 60,000 miles and it drives lovely..ive had it around 4 years..mine had a few issues at first but ive sorted them an now its 100% ...just fancy getting 2 front wings as i have some rust bubbling on both..the rears are great so no worries..i use acf50 its fab to combat any rust issues u may have..

Hello, it is important to check that the roof mechanism is working well. If possible, it is good to check the service history. Mine had been driven about 148,000 km when I bought it in 2019. Now it has passed about 160,000 km, 12,000 km without any problem whatsoever. The only thing I have done is change the front brake pads and changed the tires. Greetings Kingofarctic
I noticed you turned the engine on before putting the roof down. If we try putting the roof down without turning on the engine first it doesn't get very far before it gives up, I figured this was due to the battery being old but am now thinking maybe this is the way it's supposed to be? Any idea?
Hi Sam, I think the roof draws a lot of power. Because of this I always have the engine on when I take the roof down and up. If the battery is new, you can probably maneuver the roof without starting the engine, but I think I prefer to do it with the engine running. Regards Kingofarctic

Hi Nicholas, 500 pounds is extremely cheap, so it should be safe. But I would probably check that there are no very serious errors with the car, in that case it can be very expensive. Good luck!

I think 240000 km is a bit much if you are considering buying an SLK. But if the service history is good and the car is generally in good condition it should be no problem. Mercedes cars are known for driving many miles. Regards Kingofarctic
The interior noise you hear so often is due to the drivers movements upon the leather interior. Once owned a 98 E320 and one more thing when the speedos SAY 160, Mercedes MEANS 160. Best I had it at was 140 but she could have done MORE if asked.

The Chrysler crossfire is Mercedes with a Chrysler badge, from engine to transmission and even the interior knobs/switches are from Merc.
