- Today I'm taking a look at the Russell-Alexis Mk.14 Formula Ford Assetto Corsa mod by Stereo.
The Russell-Alexis Mk.14 can trace it's roots right back to the beginnings of Formula Ford. However, this Assetto Corsa mod represents a car as it would have appeared decades later, competing in the ever popular Historic Formula Ford series. The main differences are the addition of a few modern safety devices, such as an enlarged roll hoop and a fire suppression system.
Assetto Corsa is a bit short on no-downforce single seaters, so this mod is very welcome. Thankfully this is a well put together Assetto Corsa mod and does the prototype car justice.

I went to the Russell driving school in '72 and drove this car. It was shocking to me, how quickly and precisely it responded to the wheel. Made my street car feel dangerously sluggish by comparison. Turning in, your shoulders get slammed by the frame tubes. The vibration of both wheel and gearshift gave you blisters on your hands. But yes, it was easy to throw around. High slip angles, no problem. "Fun?" not really, with a demanding instructor ready to call you out in front of the others if (when) you mess up.

I just found this mod so I checked your channel and sure enough you had a review on it. I'm really loving this car, hell fun to drive and its really a great car to feel that grip shift during weight transfer, also a great car to put theory into practice. looks like since your did your review the mod has had a few tweaks. So much fun driving these vintage style cars, its a real nice mod , stereo and his crew got a big thumbs up review from me. they have done a great job with this mod.
I know this is an older video (and mod), but I still want to thank you, Chris. I am fairly new to sim racing, and I was searching for a Formula Ford (cars I used to drive in the 1980s). This video came up and my search was done! And as is so often the case, you have also whetted my appetite with your choice of track and your fabulous presentation.

4 years later……. I love this mod, it’s an all-time favourite. It’s a challenge, but a rewarding one. Can bite you on the brakes! Love it so much I’ve started looking for the real thing and working out how to get into hillclimbs maybe…

Agree with the review. This is hands down the most authentic feeling mechanical grip single seat race car in the sim racing world. It is an absolute blast to drive and has tons of character, something missing from many mods.
Completely agree. I got back into sim racing and AC when the quarantine hit. The MK14 has been so much much fun to race but also quite a challange. It reminded me of my first attempts at GPL all those years ago.

Another outstanding video, Chris. Tying this in to progression with the GPL mod is an interesting exercise - start out in these to get the feel, graduate to the MS7 / Lotus 33 for a GP2 feel, and then into the big boys. Looking very much forward to putting these for a spin around the tracks. Maybe I'll actually make turn 1 on Feldbergring!
Hey Nick - funny you should say that, but I thought the same thing and nearly mentioned as much in the video. I'm not ashamed to admit that I took out about 12 cars on my first attempt barreling down the hill through the town in Feldberg in the Formula Ford. Apparently those cobblestones aren't as grippy as I remember!

Not to long ago I parted ways with AC, I can't put my finger on why exactly, it just didnt feel right anymore. Fast forward a few months and I discover your channel through GM. You've been breathing new life into AC for me with your excellent, high quality videos (and your totally underrated skills as a musician). I finally decided to give AC another shot, downloaded it again and to my surprise had great fun. With your recent video on Good and Bad Weather Suite and now these rather unusual tracks shown in the background of this video (racing through fog in an old town and a forest), I was wondering if you'd show interest in making a sort of "Chris Hayes favorite mods" video? Maybe even to wrap up 2018 and give your audience a new perspective on simracing for 2019, for I think you use AC in a different way compared to most of us by focusing on historic as well as modern cars, not only the latter. I imagine it'd make your mod-list a welcomed contrast to all the other "essential, must have, ..." mod lists out there.
Just wanted to throw my idea out there!

Thanks for the kind words Cybersys - glad to hear you're finding the good stuff in Assetto Corsa. Having so much content is a double-edged sword, and it can mean that it's hard to sort the wheat from the chaff. But, for me, that's half the fun ;)

I think you do an incredible job on your video's , and are extremely informative. You dive into the paticular's in way's some other's don't , and then go into Lamen's term's on how certain thing's are , and why they are that way. Definitely subbed to your channel here. Before getting straight to the simple question I wanted to ask, I would like to seize the moment to tell you that I do really like the way you introduce new content on your channel. It's really intriguing for an English learner like me. That being said, I was wondering which track were you driving on at 4:37. You know, driving an Abart 595 SS or any other oldies there might be appropriate and enjoyable.
PS: I like the mod too, so maybe I will give it a try in the future, at least after getting the hang of the most kunos' content.
Hey anto31ad - thank you, it means a lot. The track is Feldbergring - which was created by Fat Alfie and can be downloaded from Race Department. It's one of the best mods for Assetto Corsa in my opinion.

@@ChrisHaye Whoa! This track is way longer than I could imagine. I mean, the cobblestone grounded section caught my eye, making me figure about a relatively short track built around a little town where low powered cars could race.

Hey Cully, funny you should mention that, I reinstalled it the other day but I'm getting all sorts of crashes. Might take a while to iron out a few of the kinks first.
Great video... I owned a classic Formula ford for 10 years and they are extremely good fun to race, probably one of the best racing schools with Go Karting. However I was a bit dispointed with the handling of these FFords in Assetto corsa. Did you find a way to set them up to get closer to the real handling? any tips welcome :) Thanks
