- Pokemon Competitive Singles has seen a big shakeup with the release of Gen 9's new DLC. With the presence of new Offense enablers like Ribombee, Alolan Ninetales, a newly buffed Rillaboom and new threats like Manaphy, this metagame is faster paced than ever before.
While Maushold struggled to function at OU's power level in the past, in this new meta it actually fits decently as an Anti-Lead against Web setters with useful Utility. With Tidy Up to remove Hazards against Gholdengo and that powerful signature move Population Bomb, Maushold can also be a scary threat.
This new team by VicBossMG achieved impressive results with Maushold on the Gen 9 ladder. Is our favourite Mouse family better than we thought?

Gen 9 Competitive Pokemon wouldn't be the same without this powerful pink blob. He kinda looks like someone I met in one of my game design and development courses.
Gen 9 Pokemon Showdown is one of the greatest online gaming sites in history. From Pikachu and Charizard, to Palafin and Roaring Moon, The new Pokemon games, Pokemon Scarlet & Violet, have introduced a lot of new faces. Can I succeed in one of the best android games of all time? If so, I'm gonna get myself a Walmart bakery Pokemon cake to celebrate.
Gholdengo is a Pokemon made of pure gold. He must have done some online business management courses to accumulate all that wealth. Or perhaps he might want to learn how to make money playing video games on TH-cam. In any case, he's a powerful metagame force, with absolutely no interest in online game development schools.

30 minutes after upload, I decided to use this team and my first game I met another guy using a different Maushold team. This guy told me his ex made his team and he's still regretting breaking up after a month, so I asked him what's more worth: winning the Ribombee lead matchup or dragging his ex. 5 minutes later he's an improved man who deleted his team and lingering thoughts about his ex and is now moving on, improving himself, and going to the gym. Maushold may not have created a household in OU, but it brought a guy to look up and move forward with his life.

I heard the sounds of munching from my closet and opened it to find that the Maushood had grown enormous. I tried to run, but I could not outpace the Tidy Upped rodent. “This is insane!” I cried, before being instantly killed by a 10 hit Technician Boosted Population.

@@Mepphy99 yeah, but I find it funny we had 2 or 3 cases of pokemon that dropped to UU and then when direct to ubers... "realizing power" became a fear because some of those was clear as day to me they were strong but people ignored them enough for the drop

Another thing to note about that team is how many dark types it has, allowing for very easy ghost killing

If pokemon were ranked in terms of comedic value instead of usage, Maushold would be AG for sure.
Maushold is one of my favourite Pokémon in this generation. The family that slays together, stays together.
It’s also because I do Adore skill link Pokémon like Cloyster and Cincinno. Especially when you can put a king’s rock on it.

Maushold's stats are very identical to Cinccino and Ambipom. High Speed and average Attack with every other stat being low

VicBossMG threw the type chart out the window with this one. Mono weak to Fighting and a bit less to Fairy besides Amoonguss. Only in gen 9

I use tera fairy to invite fighting types and garg can set up vs zama as a result and beat zama 1vs1 ID body press.
This is truly a Tera moment.

Just if people wonder my team is weak to fighting but Amoon Is max def and shrugs the hits forces them out which it mostly tusk and zama which can force zama to tera steel since grass knot breaks their sub, scouting for low kick is nice as well and vs sneasler rilla, you can save red card to pivot sneasler out and threaten with Maushold and tera fairy garg easily can set up on a physical attacker when put in tera fairy because he isn’t a rock type and ID and spam salt cure due to the lack of covert cloak usage. Sammh invites wellspring a lot for free spikes and safely switch into Amoon to threaten it and if they decide to go iron val or great tusk he easily two shots with aqua cutter followed by aqua jet. If you can pin this Thnks also for the video! Maushold is really great fit and forces a lot of Pokémon to switch or stay in trying to predict your decision if you lead it. @JimothyCool

Hate to be that guy but I’ve been rocking maushold in ou since launch. Tidy against ghold combined with bite is nice coverage. I’ve missed on the first hit of pop bomb a few times lol

I was wondering how long it would take players to realize that tidy up is the answer to the gholdengo problem. It's not a perfect answer, because having only 1 frail, if fast, pokemon able to clear hazards in a hazard-central meta is not ideal, but it is still an answer, and that one turn of complete hazard removal might just be enough to throw the opponent off
Court Change Cinderace has been rising too
The real answer is banning goldengo
So conclusion we need more Mons that can learn court change hopefully the dlc will provide

Maushold has invaded my household. I heard munching coming from my pantry, and opened it to see that their bellies had grown enormous. i tried to catch them, but I could not outpace the tidy up boosted mice, i cried "this is insane" before slamming my face into a small hole on the wall, with my head comically taking the shape of the hole

Population Bomb hitting 10 times with Technician actually is 450 base power. 20 base + 10 from Technician = 30 and then STAB. So each hit is actually 45 base power
There is no greater joy in life than switching in your Rocky Helmet user when the enemy Maushold used Population Bomb, and you get to slowly watch the opponent lose hope as their HP decreases bit by bit

I personally use it with magnezone to deal with most steel types, and then use dark types to handle the ghosts.

I really like this team and instantly got a mousehold sweep. But after a view matches I wondered what to do against fighting types when amoongus is down with every other Mon 2x or 4x weak to it
You Tera garg 90% it beats the fighting types and now sneasler is banned the team will thrive more

I know this is a Singles OU video, but I've had impressive success with Maushold in Doubles UU and (some success) in Doubles OU with a sneaky Maushold Set.
Maushold also has Friend Guard as an ability, which in (slightly) lower powerlevel of UU allows them and their partner to survive most hits at least once with a bit of investment in HP.

This set is not focused on doing damge, but more focused on Flinching Key Set Up Sweepers and chipping damage away, or redirecting damage away from your Set Up Sweeper.
Even Burned, this Pokemon can support your team and flinch your opponent to death. Even just by hitting Half of the Population Bomb is already a 40% to flinch.
In Doubles OU with all the Great Tusks, Kingambits and Flutter Mane, is a bit harder to use, so it tends to focus more on redirecting.
I don't thinm tidy is a signature move now that it's given to furret
If dlc give Maushold Hone Claws it's over for us all. This thing can not be allowed an item slot
With a King's Rock and enough accuracy buffs, population bomb would have a 65% chance to make the target flinch. If the target if Paralysed too, then the chance it gets to move is 26%.

Funny story, I picked up Maushold for a Gen 9 draft league earlier this year and ended up against a Rocky Helmet Corviknight…

Hey, relevant story from today! My gf and I each made a team for the shared power metagame on showdown to play against each other (basically every pokemon that enters play gets the effects of their ability, plus any others’ on the party that came out before them), and when the battle began, we immediately realized that we’d both independently come up with teams that centered around maushold. 😂 We had different strategies for powering them up though. I used ambipom, ursaluna-bloodmoon, and hisuian samurott to pass on skill link, mind’s eye, and sharpness (which affects population bomb); and my gf used basculegion, pincurchin, and alolan golem to pass on adaptability, electric terrain, and galvanize, for a super boosted electric type population bomb (she terastalized maushold into an electric type too). I managed to beat her, but only just barely. Shared Power is a fun metagame, you should check it out!

I'd rather use tera dark on maushold to give it that extra damage boost it often needs to beat ghost types with bite and resist gambit's sucker punch
This is not the first time that a team using Maushold has reached top 10 in Gen 9 OU. I used to get swept by it.
