  • In this video I show you how to replace the OEM backup camera in your 2012-2016 Honda CR-V. This usually becomes necessary because the camera stops working or gets cloudy like mine did. There are a couple of options in aftermarket cameras. I would not really recommend the cheaper option, because you loose the multi-angle display, but I will list both options below. (Amazon Paid Links)
    OEM Style Multi-Angle Replacement Camera amzn.to/3qxOLmh
    Cheaper Option with NO multi angle support (Camera Only) amzn.to/3kx6V3K

    Great video, thanks! 🙏 You pointed out all the key issues with trim removal… worked perfectly for us and we avoided breaking anything. We got the multi view cam from the Amazon link you provided, and it worked for our 2013 CRV… crystal clear rear view now! 😅

    What a timely video. Thank you. The backup camera on my ‘16 accord started to get foggy like that. Now, it is completely black, only the guidelines left.

    I just changed mine. Pretty easy to do, except one of the 8mm bolts snapped the plastic inside the black trim piece. I’ll figure another way to secure that. Using permanent outdoor double sided tape for now.

    thanks for the video
    my backup camera comes through the stereo display itself and not the smaller one up top.
    from what i’ve seen it’s a hassle to get the OEM camera to play nicely when upgrading the head unit, and if you do adapt it, you lose the view options.
    if i tap into the signal or power from the original connector for the backup connector, could i get signal to an aftermarket one?
    i believe i read it may not be 12v like most aftermarket units

    Hello, thanks for all the brilliant videos, I'm thinking of swapping my existing CR-V camera for the Joying AR one, do you know which leads are which from the Honda one so I can connect up the new camera. Thanks

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone

      No. They are "sealed" and eventually loose the seal slightly enough for condensation to get in and eventually some dirt. It may be possible, but would take micro electronics ability

    Do they make any that plug into the factory harness that will work with the new joying set up?

      No plug and play for backup camera since the camera is integrated into the imid screen. But everything else is plug and play

    Not sure if a replacement camera would help me, but I'm having issues changing the viewing angle in reverse. In diagnostic mode I am able to switch between the 3 viewing angles. When in reverse, the selector knob changes the radio modes. Any tips would be appreciated.

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  ปีที่แล้ว

      Sounds like your radio / button is defective. If you can change it in diagnostic mode, the camera is fine.

  • @Dennisp421

    Sounds crazy but do you think a hair dryer on a cool setting would dry out the moisture in the camera housing to try to avoid the replacement?
    I'm assuming if moisture found it's way in once, the seal is damaged and would probably come in again so perhaps replacement is the best option...

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Exactly. Even if you could dry it out it will just happen again immediately.

    Hi. Thanks for the video! I have a couple of questions re a 2016 CRV. I had the radio replaced in order to have Android Auto and Apple Car Play on screen which we love. When they did that, our camera switched to what can best be described as "fish-eye". The view doesn't occupy a rectangular screen but is reduced to the shape of an eye (points on the side and widest in the middle). It is usable but I don't know if it's because of the new radio or the camera has gone bad. Do you have an opinion? Also, the "good" replacement camera you mention is no longer available on Amazon. Do you have an updated recommendation? THANKS!

    • @JackofAllMasterofNone
      @JackofAllMasterofNone  ปีที่แล้ว

      It's the default view. You can change it via a secret test menu that I show in this video around the 8 min mark

    • @peterneb
      @peterneb ปีที่แล้ว

      @@JackofAllMasterofNone I really appreciate you getting back to me. Mine is a 2016 and I think it differs in several ways from yours. The backup camera goes to the main radio screen and not the smaller one you are viewing. And I did try your method at the 8 min point and it doesn't work, which I believe related to the wiring difference between the car years. I'm not technically proficient enough to do it, but I think I would have to remove the new radio (with Android Auto, SiriusXM, etc.) and replace it with the original to do as you mention and then test screens by alternating hooking up the new radio.

    I have the problem of a black screen. The lines are still there. Guy hit me from behind. Body shop eventually replaced back window because defrost wouldn't work. A couple of days later is when I started having problems with the camera. A lot of lines across. Now it just black. Body shop says not their problem. Any way, it looks like I will need an after market camera. I went through Honda dealership and their cameras are on back order. After watching your video, they may be on back order indefinitely. I couldn't find your link for purchasing this. I looked on Amazon but frankly I'm pretty clueless. Can you help me please?? I would really appreciate it. I really miss it.

      I'm sure it's a lot more difficult. The camera would have to be completely disassembled.
