@@zwowwasmr the show is HIGHLY inaccurate lol. Catherine and Henry never exchanged letters prior to meeting. When she got married, Henry was around ten or eleven. They did get engaged later, but after Isabel's death, Catherine lost her status as a desirable and eligible bride so Henry broke off the engagement at the suggestion of his father sometime in 1506. Her father, Ferdinand, refused to take her back in Spain. No one would give her allowances nor willingly keep her at their royal court, she was in virtual poverty till her father announced her as the Spanish ambassador for Tudor royal court. After Henry VII died in 1509, Henry VIII said that his father's last wish was that he married Catherine. They married when Henry was almost eighteen and Catherine twenty-three. I sometimes feel like Henry lied about his father's last wish on his deathbed. He might've actually fallen in love with Catherine. She was beautiful, smart, strong, and kind. It wouldn't be a surprise.
Henry never fought to be with her. It was his father’s last wish, and he as only 18 years old. When he actually fell in love with someone he got kinda crazy and created a whole new church to be with this someone.
Actually it isnt author she married,he was Henry's brother.in a nutshell this is very fiction.same w the white queen and princess.margret never expected Henry to be king.
ann l she was married to Arthur , his brother but then she got married to Henry and was queen for a while until he banished her and annulled their marriage . That’s when he moved on to Anne Boylen.
I think in the actual show she says something to the effect of “No, of course not”. The video is just edited to make it look like she didn’t say anything.
Henry was so desperate for a son to rule after him that he never realised that he had two amazing and powerful daughters who would rule the world after him. He didn't love any of his wives. He just gave them affection until they couldn't produce an heir. He was happy that one wife was able to provide him with a son but I don't think he actually loved any of them.
I like how both the actors picked as Henry and Catherine, have similarities in looks with the real life monarchs. Like Catherine Aragon has red hair and blue eyes and Henry has red hair. Usually they make Henry with Brown hair and make Catherine brown haired and brown eyes. I wouldn’t mind if it were either way, but this way it’s very pleasing. Lol
I felt so bad for her 🥺 she had heart cancer and she probably thought she was dying from a broken heart..... the fact that he deserted her forbid Mary to see her towards the end of her life .... cruel I heard Anne and Henry both cried on the day of her funeral bet it’s from the guilt.
no, henry and anne never cried because of their guilt towards catherine. they even wear bright colours like yellow to celebrate catherine’s death, when people bash them the council justify their action by spreading information that yellow are the mourning color in spain. thats why until now some people still think like that when in fact spain mourning color are white and black. anne is said to be very happy that finally she is the only queen of england bc even after the divorced people still calls catherine as the true queen of england
It's a good depiction of young Henry with auburn hair instead of black as in previous shows or movies. And he's slim and good looking as he was meant to be when he was younger. Also I love this Catherine .
I want to clarify something, spain didn't exist at that moment, there were two kingdoms, Castilla and Aragon, it wasn't until other king that it became Spain but at the moment this happened Spain didn't exist but they keep calling it like that even thought at the beginning of this video.the woman says princesa de Castilla and the subtitle says, princess of Spain Edit because I really see that many of you failed history at school. The were known as the catholics kings, Fernando II of Aragon and Idabel I of Castilla. Not any Spain reference yet. Then they conquisted Granada. And, with Navarra kingdom, Canarias and Melilla and some others it was like the first time that all this territory was under the same kings but each place had its own rules. That's why Isabel was queen of Castilla and consort of Aragon. It's very simple. Spain wasn't a thing. Next.

The series is an adaptation of historian and author Philippa Gregory's ; "The Constant Princess" from her Plantagenet & Tudor series of novels. Gregory writes historical fiction from the female participants viewpoint; quite well given there is so little on record concerning these women at the heart of this infamous period of English history. Also most of these events occurred when written records such as journal, diaries and personal letters would have been very dangerous to keep. StarZ has made TV series of two others; "The White Queen" and "The White Princess" and "The Other Boleyn Girl" was made into a movie with Scarlett Johansson. My fav is "The Lady of the Rivers" the story of Elizabeth's mother Jacquetta which along with "The Kingmaker's Daughter" (Anne Neville) and "The Red Queen" (Margaret Beaufort) were dovetailed into "The White Queen" series but are well worth a read or listen on their own. "The King's Curse" is excellent too.The entire set of novels are available on Audible too and the narrators are very, very good.
I find this really confusing. Instead of making a british actress learn spanish and fake a spanish accent wouldn't have been much easier to pick a spanish one? I mean even if she performs well, for me a native speaker it sounds ridiculous. When she speaks spanish it sounds british and when she speaks english it sounds too perfect, you hardly notice the accent. How come they have chosen a spanish actress to portray the mother and not one for the main character?
Elena O im a native spanish speaker too and to me it doesn’t really sound that bad idk why people are making such a big deal out of it. at least she resembles the real Catherine of Aragon which was a redhead with blue eyes other shows portray her with black hair, brown eyes and a tan because of stupid inaccurate spanish stereotypes. Also her mother Isabel in the show looks nothing like the real Isabel either which was blonde, pale and blue eyed.

PRICK! Up your ears I’m the Catherine who lost her head~ (BEHEADED) for my promiscuity outside of wed lock up your husband’s lock up your sons Kate Howard is here and the fun’s begun~
1. Queen Isabella was blond, had fair skin and blue eyes. 2. Black people who had converted to Christians served a maids NEVER as ladies in waiting. 3. Spain didn't existed yet, not until Juana's son Charles (Catherine's nephew) inherited the Kingdoms of Castilla and Aragon uniting "Las Españas." Positive point: Spanish people speaking English noways have a very similar accent to the one presented in this series.
One note. Charles, Catherine's nephew did not inherit the Kingdom. His mother was so mentally ill that after the deaths of her mother and husband she broke down totally. Her husband was Phillip the Handsome, heir to the Holy Roman Empire, so her oldest son, became the heir. When it became obvious she could not rule or even function, her father, Ferdinand, took control of Castille, he was the King of Aragon, but under the marriage pact with Isabel he could co-monarch both Kingdoms. After that he essentially locked up his daughter, Joanna, and made her co-heir with her son, Charles, then age 7. When Ferdinand died in 1516, Charles was 16 so he ruled with his mother but within 2 years became the King outright, despite the fact that his mother was still alive and only died 3 years before he did. He also became Emperor of the Holy Roman Empire at age 19 when his grandfather, Maximilian died.
Although Queen Isabel de Castilla (Isabella for English speakers) is always represented as a brunette woman in foreign productions, she is actually described in the chronicles of the time as a blonde one. In any case, Spanish actress Alicia Borrachero appears here quite epic wearing armor.

"Do you see now how destinies are only meant for men in England" from the girl that through her marriages foreshadowed the union of England and Scotland.
Just a little historic explanation. It was not the Pope who stood against the annulment of Katherine and Henry's marriage. Yes, annulment, not divorce. It was her nephew Charles V, King of Spain and Holy Emperor, who considered it a humiliation for his aunt and for him. Besides, during the reign of Katherine's father and nephew, Spain and France were fighting each other for the control of Italy. Most popes supported France, so Charles, a devout Catholic, considered them his enemies and enemies of Spain. The marriage annulment was a good excuse to neutralize the Pope, so he sent his army to capture Rome. The city was sacked by Catholic soldiers and the Pope fled through a tunnel to Castel Sant Angelo protected by the Swiss Guards, most of whom were killed. Clement VII had to accept Charles' conditions, including the refusal to the marriage annulment
This has got to be the worst, most inaccurate historical drama I have seen since The Tudors. Prince Henry was 10 years old when Katherine married Arthur. Hardly the age to write passionate love letters to a woman he had never met, much less sneak them thru diplomatic channels to Katherine. Ridiculous. Queen Isabella did not go around wearing armor, she terrified the Muslims without it. One city surrendered when they heard that Isabella was on her way. There was no Muslim attack on Katherine and the queen as they were on their way to put Katherine on the boat. Surely, someone at the time would have mentioned it. Also, Isabella had blonde hair. Prince Arthur was not as depicted. Despite the numerous allusions to Arthur being sickly, contemporary correspondence from the Hapsburg ambassador does not support this. He describes Arthur as very handsome, tall, healthy and intelligent. The Italian Ambassador noted that the prince was tall for his age and had a ‘singular beauty and grace’. Hardly the description of a sickly person with TB. And that was just the first 40 minutes, I didn't need to watch more.
MyrnaMinkoff it does not need to be completly accurate. It is a TV show not a documentary. They took a real life story and made it into entertainment. These kind of shows are not supposed to give you a history lesson, but open you to a world you might have not been interested in before. They open your appetite for history, incouraging you to learn more. That is my view on it. I saw The Tudors when I was 14 I think, and that was the time that I fell in love with English history. I went on and learnd about the Normand conquest, the Plantagenets, 100 years war, War of the Roses, and the Henry VIII, The Stuarts and so on.

I think that she did consummate with Arthur. In 8 months of marriage where they were fond of each other...I doubt there was no sexy time at all. Then she denied it in court to avoid being repudiated.
There is evidence that people were lying to win the favor of Henry. Before She and Henry were married the pope himself said that the marriage was valid in the eyes of God. It’s only when Henry wants a divorce that people all of a sudden question her virginity. She was extremely pious and wouldn’t lie to the pope.

A beautiful tribute to the beginning of a sad story of Catherine of Aragon.
Beautifully edited!
thank you!
Queen Catherine led armies to victory in Scotland while she was pregnant. She really is a magneficent woman.
She did it with older men and young boys because the professional army was with Henry

I love how Katherine responds to Henry asking if she’d lain with Arthur. Just turns and walks away. Epic! 😎
Charlotte Hope did a great job as CATHERINE. She kept me in the series till the end. Really enjoyed it.
Actor who played Henry was so wickedly good! And this last scene was delivered so flawlessly that it made the hair stand up on my neck.
Lol
Daughter of Spain, Queen of England, girlfriend of Ramsey
😂😂😂
And queen lucy of Narnia lol 😂😂😂
Wow.. wow..wow

Maissa flore Catalina de Aragon is played by Charlotte Hope not Georgie Henley
Welp looks like Lucy left Narnia for good and is working for the english court lmfao
She went way back into the past
It's a good depiction of young Henry with auburn hair instead of black as in previous shows or movies. And he's slim and good looking as he was meant to be when he was younger. Also I love this Catherine .
I want to clarify something, spain didn't exist at that moment, there were two kingdoms, Castilla and Aragon, it wasn't until other king that it became Spain but at the moment this happened Spain didn't exist but they keep calling it like that even thought at the beginning of this video.the woman says princesa de Castilla and the subtitle says, princess of Spain
Edit because I really see that many of you failed history at school.
Next.
It's perhaps "generalized" for those, who don't know history that much, I suppose :-).
And Navarra Aka Reyno de Navarra.
It is put at the end or beginning of each episode that it isn't historically accurate.
@@michaja2 How can you know something when you do not know how much and you respond like a fool ...
The average person probably wouldn't know there were two separate Kingdoms. Using "Spain" makes it easier for the audience to follow the plot.
Catherine of Aragon is one of all time tragic figures in history.
A true queen indeed. She knows when to fight for her rights without even bowing her head.

For those that keep asking. This is from the Starz tv station in the US it’s called “The Spanish Princess”. It was a 8 episode tv series.
This is beautiful!! The ending was intense!
They could of used Mario Castro actress from Galicia Spain. th-cam.com/video/9QAHDy7I3uU/w-d-xo.html
I suppose Spanish girls with red hair and blue eyes are harder to come by.
@@tanyahicks Plenty of people with blue and green eyes in my family alone, let alone the whole of Spain. Redheads are pretty rare period. The country with the highest concentration of redheads is Scotland at 13% of the population.

I love her and I love this edit! Good job wow 💕
1. Queen Isabella was blond, had fair skin and blue eyes. 2. Black people who had converted to Christians served a maids NEVER as ladies in waiting. 3. Spain didn't existed yet, not until Juana's son Charles (Catherine's nephew) inherited the Kingdoms of Castilla and Aragon uniting "Las Españas."
Positive point: Spanish people speaking English noways have a very similar accent to the one presented in this series.
They should've done a show about how he divorced her and created the church of England

Although Queen Isabel de Castilla (Isabella for English speakers) is always represented as a brunette woman in foreign productions, she is actually described in the chronicles of the time as a blonde one. In any case, Spanish actress Alicia Borrachero appears here quite epic wearing armor.
But she never fought in any war.

Why do movies and documentaries always portray her as a brunette when the Trastamaras are known blondes?
Stereotypes and clichés, many anglosaxons think all Spaniards are dark-eyed and darkhaired, that is genetically imposible to be Spaniard and blond

Julio Salazar such a devouted nephew 💞
@@SG-pu3rx yes, the dynasty was above all
This has got to be the worst, most inaccurate historical drama I have seen since The Tudors.

Henry loved Catherine because back then they would have to be headed her but since she was a infanta and Henry love her so he spared her because he knew deep down that Chatherine was the one😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭

This is so historically in accurate where’s Maria De Salinas and Donna El Vira Maria and Katherine’s friendship is so important in the telling of her life story she was there till the end.
Including Maria De Salinas and Donna El Vira Maria makes for a much better story than focusing on the lives of her servants. Perhaps we will see them in season 2?
She was the one wife Henry VIII knew he couldn't execute, because otherwise he would have to deal with Ferdinand of Aragon and Isabella of Castile.
They were dead when the divorce was happening. The problem there was Catalina´s nephew, Carlos V the emperor
They were dead. He was more scared of her nephew Charles since he was extremely powerful.
She was already a Princess in our own right. Then a very well known and poplar Queen in her own right. He couldn’t do it. It would’ve had to have been a terrible accident. Cause he would’ve been put to death in the process of trying. Also yes Aragon, Castile and Rome would’ve all converged upon England very swiftly. Henry VIII knew who not to try.
