Human genius is human genius, but it ONLY transcends when the Holy Spirit touches it. Just look at the non-random lyrics here (cross and passion and Holy, for example). The atheism of former church choirboy Simon does not stand in the way of the divine work (as did not the agnostism of great composer Ralph Vaughan Williams- also British)

@@suecondon1685 Let me start by saying Simon is an incredible vocalist. The audio has been processed by an engineer which is normal. You can tell this because of simple things as in the reverb and echo that is added to his voice along with bits of compression. Pitch correction is a tool and is commonly mistaken for Auto tune, and the thought that you can turn an awful vocalist into a superstar that way and it could not be further from the truth. You have to be able to sing on key for it to be used at all. Its not a dig on a vocalist when someone mentions pitch correction or auto tune, theyre just misinformed.

Simon’s perfection of this very difficult vocal performance is comparable to the perfection of a Bugatti’s magnificence-any Bugatti, any model, any year. Not attainable by any other human past, present or future. This whole arrangement is magical.

I went to see them in 1993, wasn't a fan, but went as a favor to my girlfriend at the time. They blew me away, god they sounded so good. Fan for life now. There is so much more depth than you would ever expect from a pop band.
Similar story here. Back in 1984 I used to make fun of DD and this girl in class gave me her tape of Seven And Ragged Tiger. Told me to listen to it before I make fun of them again. Ever since I have been a fan, own every album and still listen to them to this day. Oh have never made fun of them since.

Best Live version of this song, I think it's because it is more a rock ballad more than a pop ballad, Simon sings it slower and Dom turns up the guitar - 5 stars.

I just watched them in concert this last weekend September 16, 2023 and they still sound this amazing. Le Bon's voice is absolutely incredible! I was so blown away! If you have any chance to see them do it before it is too late!

I got in the car and my wife had left a CD in the player .. it started on this song , it was live version . Now I'm old and not familiar with Duran Duran apart from the first album , I was liking it very much and wondering who it was .. then Notorius came on and I got it .. I got to planet Earth and was playing drums on the steering wheel while stuck in traffic :-)

Best track from Duran Duran ever. They really smashed it with this live version. Much slower than the original version but quite stunning. Simon still has it. Beautiful.

I love the lyrics to this song they have a lot of meaning to me. I feel them so deeply down in my soul! Especially, "Where are my friends when I need them most"? When you have everything, everyone wants to be around you, but when you fall and lose it all and things are not the same. You will find almost everyone will desert you but those very few who stay with you are your true friends!!

Not me. Was a metalhead in the 80s but I can really appreciate and admire their contributions to music.
I caught DD live back in the eighties. I wasn't a fan, my friend bought me a ticket so I could see how the other half lived. I came out of the venue, that night, deaf in one ear. Not from the sound of the band.It was from the hordes of young girls screaming, "Simon! Simon!! throughout the concert. Anyway, thanks for the memories. And thanks for the music.
Even though the lyric was written by Simon about a friend who died, it's nonetheless an impressionistic lyric which we can all interpret in trying to find each of our "Ordinary World's." I know it's been very inspiring to me in the interpretation for my personal life and I hope others that listen to it can interpret it in a positive was too as I have. It's also great to see that these guys still have it, have aged gracefully and are still out there playing. This is the best live version I've heard, although it's hard to tell if there are some pre-recorded tracks in there. If not, its the best 4 man live band (not including the singer) I've ever heard. It usually takes 6 musicians to sound like this. Thanks for the great post. Stephen M.
