Ooh, and I think the name was decided before the enterolith was found! Love it. It was a beautiful name before, now it’s beautiful and an extra layer of cool.
I found a 3lb feral kitten in my chicken coop...when I asked her what her name was (sounds silly to many people), but the name that popped into my head was Pearl. Not a name I would choose, but I left her name as Pearl...and call her Little Pearl as she still only weighs about 4 lbs after a year. Those little weasels are called Ermine...and are farmed to make fur coats when they turn white in the winter. Imagine how many of these cute little creatures have to die to create a single coat for someone to wear a dead animal coat for vanity.
Another name for enteroliths is horse pearls. I did not know that a horse could pass them. That's so interesting. Alfalfa is high in calcium so that explains how horses that get a lot of it tend to get enteroliths. Ziggy's giving you a bit of a pout. He'll get over it when he's feeling better. I feel like his baseline temperament is to be happy and friendly. Good times. I love being out in the barn, cleaning stalls. Smelling horses. Put that scent in a candle! 😆🥰☺️

I am so enjoying Pearl's refeeding and learning so much! Most people with animals don't want to look at the poop, but they also fail to notice if there is a problem! Poop is so important, whether human or animal. Thank you for the education!
I really think teaming Scarlett with Ziggy is a big reason for her improvement in calmness. Arabians like Ziggy (and my old arabian also) have this air of calmness about them that can influence certain other horses to just "chill and relax".
I love the education you are giving those of us with ignorance of horse care and needs.I am so impressed with the work you are doing for your little herd and the love you lavish upon them ,and I am pleased to get a glimpse of this previously unknown world.
Arabians can show that dichotomy of nature. Calm to the point of serenity in their happy place. Then so ready to get up and go when put to work. And they get better with age. Like a fine wine!
@kmpage333 very true when I showed my Arabian he would look like a lazy one, hip hocked head down half asleep waiting to go in the ring. The minute I hit the ring he was head and tail up and showing off to the max lol
The moment I laid eyes on the new girl…I thought “she is a Pearl” and was delighted to see others thought so, too! You have sealed the deal and I could not be happier for her and you, CC! Thank you so much for sharing these sweet members of the family! The world is a better place for all of us because of you! ❤
Thought the same. "Pearl" came in my mind when I asked God how He would name her. Sounds weird but I really wanted to know before I made a suggestion. He knows best... 😊
Thank you for taking care of Pearl. She seems so sweet. The look she gave you during her hoof trim was full of love. All animal like her deserves good care and love. I am very inspired by your knowledge and care of your animals.
Pearl must feel like she has suddenly been elevated to princess status with all the pampering she has been getting lately, poor neglected baby. It’s so cute to watch her curiously looking over her shoulder to see what is going on with her feet. As gentle and accommodating as she is it seems like she must have been gently cared for at some point in her past, or is it just the way of most older horses? Nigel is a little pistol, so it can’t be common in all older equine.
it could be her natural reaction to the love and care she’s receiving now, she recognizes the kindness and compassion and is grateful for her new home 🤷🏼♀️ but whatever the reason, she’s safe and loved and she knows it 🥰
Pearl was so enjoying you brushing her neck. I so hope the enteroliths are small enough to pass. I also have a 25 yo Arab gelding who is prone to choke. I feed him soaked beet pulp shreds and alfalfa cubes. I soak for at least an hour in warm water, then make sure all the cubes are separated and add enough warm water to make it really soupy and sloppy. He hasn't choked on this yet. Maybe try Ziggy's mash a bit more soupy. Just a thought. You are terrific for helping these horses. I so enjoy your videos. Thank you!!
So happy waiting for CC's upload. My favourite TH-camr. Addicted to watching! It's like family I've never met but feel that I'm part of! Can't wait to know her name too!
A friend’s Grand Prix dressage stallion died during colic surgery for an enterolith; they removed a 16kg enterolith (it was the size of a pumpkin). Such a devastating loss of an incredible horse who had been performing without complaint successfully at Grand Prix level with that massive rock inside of him.
Interesting, but maybe use a different object to compare it to, as pumpkins can vary from "fit in your palm" to several hundred pounds, couldn't fit through a door-sized!
A cat where I worked once brought in a little weasel that it had caught, we rescued it, and kept it overnight to be sure it wasn’t too badly injured. It was just fine, and attacked some chicken liver I gave it with awesome ferocity. They are amazing little creatures.
Pearl is a great name. She is so good natured. It's fun to see video of her and she loves to eat. I hope the enteroliths don't end up being a serious issue but she has a great quality of life with you. She seems pretty content. Maybe she'll poop more enteroliths out with the extra beet pulp.
Jeesh! Having rocks in one’s gut puts a new perspective on intestinal distress and constipation! I do hope Pearl can pass the rest of any stones she has in her guts. She has been making them kind of the way an oyster makes pearls (not really, but sort of), so Pearl is a wonderful name. 😊
You can see that Pearl's measuring how you're doing while you're trimming her feet. I think she already liked you but you also seem to be getting a lot of wins with her too. I love to see you continually gaining her trust. I think she was a good catch.
It was over 30 years ago, but a neighbor of mine lost her mare due to a complete blockage - the vet did an autopsy, and she had an enterolith the size of a grapefruit! The intestine had actually telescoped over itself, trying to move the stone . . . I then learned that they are more common in California, and she'd moved to Arkansas from California just a year earlier.
Scarlett’s progress always makes me smile. There is this pride in her eyes when she overcomes her fears. I was amazed when I saw her so relaxed while you were refreshing her stall 😲. And that little glance towards Frisco Bill when you left the stall with her. She is now one of the gang.
I'm pretty sure the 'weasel' is actually a stoat, called an ermine in winter - their fur because of the black tip was used to trim royal robes, crowns, etc. But a beautiful fierce little creature.
Here, weasels are tiny, about the size of a marker pen! A stoat and an ermine are the same animal - brown stoat in the summer and white ermine in the winter.
"The long-tailed weasel (Neogale frenata), also known as the bridled weasel, masked ermine, or big stoat, is a species of weasel found in North, Central, and South America."
Love how little pressure you put on her! Most people want to tie them tight and dictate every move. Most shots show her relaxing hind foot and happy. Very nice to see!!
I enjoy watching your interaction with your horsies. I’m sure they sense your kindness and gentleness. Pearl seems to love her grub, so to me that means she will do well in her healing journey under your care.
I am so impressed with your knowledge. Anyone who owns or is planning to own a horse, matter what age would do well to watch your channel. It would be beneficial to somehow give an idea in your title how much important information you share on not only the physical but the mental state of horses 👍🐎 .
I love that you named her Pearl, she is a gem! I learn so much from watching your channel and any horse in your care is truly lucky! Makes me happy to see a horse get rehabilitation from starvation and I’m amazed that so much has to be accounted for to do it in an optimum way. Continued good luck for our girl Pearl!
Pearl, Pearly-girl, Mama Pearl -- perfect name for this gem of a mare! And the universe confirmed it - she's "forming pearls" in her gut. Thanks CC for another great visit with your herd and various wildlife visitors!
Pearl is a great name for this senior gal!! The lesson on enteroliths was fascinating. I love learning new stuff. Hope she is ok though. Nice to see Scarlet calming down a bit. Ziggy is still adorable even if he is grouchy:)! Thanks CC
Evidence base by checking the horses poops certainly helps your vets diagnosis, great team work and the total care for your horses you have is very impressive❤
Pearl is a wonderful name for her. I hope that she continues to flourish and will become a shiny healthy Pearl. I appreciate your emphasis that it is more important for her to be able to move around for her health rather than stall confinement. She most likely has been outdoors most of her life and Montana is not yet in true deep winter weather so outdoors seems perfectly fine at this point in time.
She looks better every time I see her, the "the stone" in her poop was unbelievable 😮 your videos are so informative, I cant wait until each video appears. 26yrs old and she looks amazing, kudos to you, I hope she pulls through and doesn't have to many stones. Good luck with her❤

I can't believe how much pearl has filled out in just a few weeks, she looks like a different horse. I can't wait to see her next Summer when she has lost her Winter coat and is a picture of health. I think Ziggy and Scarlett will adore Pearl and her sweet, calm nature. ❤❤
It's still a long road for Pearl; she is such a sweet girl, hope all turns out well for her. Ziggy, while still using his good manners, is obviously displeased with you, lol Have a beautiful week.
I'm so glad that there are people like you who are rescuing these amazing animals from slaughter. I hope someday enough people will do that that horses will no longer be slaughtered. Even if somebody can't ride them, anybody who has space enough in their hearts to love them and a place to put keep them as pets can find comfort in just knowing that they saved an incredible creature that's served humanity for eons and deserves nothing less than to be loved.
I used to have a fish pond & this Ermine sweet creature used to come in for a nighttime dip & fishing expedition- when my pond which was 40 years old § failing had to be taken apart. I thought I’d never see my stealthy elegant visitor again😢 but since I moved all my frogs to a big old low sitting birdbath, next to my back porch & one summer night I did see a beautiful silent visitor with a bushy slinky tail - slipping int9 the big lower bowl of the birdbath for a dib! & I’m sure, a mouthful of fat tadpoles which I sighed over 😢 a little since I do love my toads & Frogs.. but sometimes you have to make exceptions. So next day I built a screen box my Tadpoles could slip into & hide if our friend came back. Which he still does in the hot summer.
OMG, white weasels and horse bleps!! Thank you for providing horses, mountains, small critters, and lots of information. I keep telling all my friends how much I love your content!
Right?! He’s a turd, but such a cutie!!! Did I notice a lick and chew when he trotted away and looked at CC?!? 🤣 Like he was so proud of himself in that moment
Sometimes I think Nigel is so happy where he is that he's not going to let anyone catch him because they just might send him somewhere else 😢 CC of course would never let him go.❤❤❤
I just love seeing an old horse that was sold off get the pampering you’re giving here! She deserves it. Mama horse is perfectly named “Pearl!” Very enjoyable. Hoping for Ziggy’s complete recovery. ❤️🩹
And I always thought that veterinarians were wizards. the vet that I used for many years was seventy two when he retired and was born and raised on a ranch and worked with horses all of his life. I paid attention to every word he said and it paid off more than once.
I laughed when the white ermine showed up. CC once said she had a herd of brown cow ponies. Now she has two herds--brown and white. Nigel, Ziggy, Pearl, Prim, Ermine. I know Prim is not "white" and the ermine isn't a horse, but you see what I mean! Of course Tiny is both and one to rule them all.
After watching your chanel for a while I am deeply grateful, that years ago we decided not to buy a horse for our begging daughter. I've been learning that it takes quite something to keep a horse properly.

You’re absolutely right I live in British Columbia and see them often

I enjoy watching your interaction with your horsies. I’m sure they sense your kindness and gentleness. Pearl seems to love her grub, so to me that means she will do well in her healing journey under your care.
I am so impressed with your knowledge. Anyone who owns or is planning to own a horse, matter what age would do well to watch your channel. It would be beneficial to somehow give an idea in your title how much important information you share on not only the physical but the mental state of horses 👍🐎
.
She loves your attention esp you brushing her❤❤❤I'm amazed she has taken to you so quickly she senses you are a wonderful in tune horsey person❤
I'm repeatedly struck by how sweet Pearl is. And how much better she looks. The two of you are a great pair. Thanks.
Thanks CC
I adore Pearl! She seems like the sweetest horse and I can't wait for her health to return.
Evidence base by checking the horses poops certainly helps your vets diagnosis, great team work and the total care for your horses you have is very impressive❤
Thank you from Indianapolis
Your mindfulness towards your four legged companions inspires me to love my little ones even more. Thank you for all you do.
So a Pearl formed around the stone…❤
You are a remarkable wealth of knowledge and it takes all your skill to keep your horses mended! ❤
Good luck with her❤
Pearl is so sweet! She’s so gentle…
Girl, you aint just clever.
You are a genius.
Their burrow holes can be ankle BREAKERS ! KEEP YOUR PEARL SAFE!♥️
You can put little flags at each hole 🎉to steer clear!😉♥️
Merry Christmas & a Blessed New Year to you, your's & all your beasties!🌲🐎❤
I can't believe how much pearl has filled out in just a few weeks, she looks like a different horse. I can't wait to see her next Summer when she has lost her Winter coat and is a picture of health. I think Ziggy and Scarlett will adore Pearl and her sweet, calm nature. ❤❤
It's still a long road for Pearl; she is such a sweet girl, hope all turns out well for her. Ziggy, while still using his good manners, is obviously displeased with you, lol Have a beautiful week.
Pearl is a great name. Takes a lot of time to create the real pearls.
Lovely Pearl, feisty Tiny, and a cute weasel. What a wonderful day.
Pearl seems to enjoy your scratching/rubs. She looks much better already. I hope the beets help her belly.
There’s “ My Boy Nigel! “I can watch him trot around over and over❤❤❤❤❤
Right?! He’s a turd, but such a cutie!!!
Did I notice a lick and chew when he trotted away and looked at CC?!? 🤣 Like he was so proud of himself in that moment
Such a turd❤
Sometimes I think Nigel is so happy where he is that he's not going to let anyone catch him because they just might send him somewhere else 😢 CC of course would never let him go.❤❤❤
I just love seeing an old horse that was sold off get the pampering you’re giving here! She deserves it. Mama horse is perfectly named “Pearl!” Very enjoyable. Hoping for Ziggy’s complete recovery. ❤️🩹
❤ Pearl and CC. Amazing!
❤ to the donator of the salt blocks, what a great idea!
😂😂😂
So sweet, an enterolith is a pearl in an oyster. You do have a deep attachment to the ones you take care of!!!
After watching your chanel for a while I am deeply grateful, that years ago we decided not to buy a horse for our begging daughter. I've been learning that it takes quite something to keep a horse properly.
Yes but she is rehabilitating many broken horses so that takes much more skill. When I bought my horses it was the best time of my teenage life!
OMG - cannot believe her name is Pearl. Too hard to explain but the universe sure works in mysterious ways. Bravo.
Pearly Girl……perfect
That was fun... a little weasel /ermine doing his meercat pose.
That was a cute shot of the Weasel. Pearly Girl sounded good. (New horseshoeing equipment, a water trough to lean on...)
Not going to lie, it was the perfect seat!
@@TheCleverCowgirl I felt MY back relax in sympathy when I you took a seat!
She looks so good
