When you first saw Pearl at the auction she was starved, exhausted, defeated and forlorn. Her situation has improved vastly since then, and I think she is living the best life possible for her, given her physical condition. While you can't save all of the horses facing the same fate as she did, what you did for Pearl was enormous for her, and well deserved after her many years of service to her previous owners - shame on them. I can only keep thanking you for doing what you are doing. May she have many more days in the sun before the end comes.

Then Studman, Goose, & Big Gus are in another dry lot, then there's Nigel (tiny horse) & his next door neighbour, Then there Ziggy who hangs out with Scarlett, and Primrose or Prim who hangs out with and lastly there is sweet old Pearl.
I have to admit, Pearl's medical condition reduced me to tears. I'd like to think of all her foals. She will live on through them. She will never know how many hearts she's touched at the sunset of her long life. I'm grateful she has you. She no longer needs to fear for her next meal or suffer starvation. She's probably had more care since you took her home than the whole of her life. Thank you.
I don’t understand how the owners can starve a horse or any animal to that point, and not have legal problems..Pearl’s previous owner should be in jail!

But it depends on what the mares Own breeding is & what the owners purpose is for breeding their mare !! Other times mares are used as foster mom's for possibly orphan foals & now some mares like Pearl are just used for breeding another mares actual foal, like a surrogate mare whereby the mare who was bred to a stallion grows the foal in her uterus up to a certain number of weeks & then a mare like Pearl is used to transfer the unborn, undeveloped foal into e.g. Pearls uterus..... So that for example, if it's a racing or Showjumpers mare, that mare doesn't need to take time off of racing or Showjumpering etc..... but Yet horses like Pearl get to carry & raise that mares foal Despite that foal not actually being Pearl's !! Are you still confused?? It gets worse coz nowadays the horse industry auctions off embryos from SJ, Racing & Dressage mares, so that these crazy expensive mares don't even have to carry their own foals !! It's like human trafficking but only with foal embryos & it's "perfectly legal" !! 😡

Many years ago I found a three-legged stray cat. I took her home and named her Lucky. After only six months she ended up with kidney failure. Whrn I had to make the tough decision, I said to the vet that I guessed she wasn't very Lucky after all. He said, "Of course she was. She had you at the end of her life." That was a huge comfort to me. Please let the same thought comfort you regardless of what happens in Pearl's future. She is lucky that she has YOU at the end of her life. ❤️

We really need these lessons on how to genuinely care for older horses, and not just treat them as another commodity. It's still shocking she was bred from until literally she could no more, because that's not horsemanship or anything any horse owning person can be proud of.
You are 100% correct. Pearl is exactly where she's supposed to be. No matter what happens, you've clearly changed that girl's life significantly for the better.
Pearl is where she is supposed to be, and finally having some enjoyment in her life. No matter the days left, she knew who to pick foor a home. That rainbow is a sign of hope and comfort.
I've always found most animals just want simple things. Good water, food, friends, a place to run around, and, very importantly, to feel safe and loved by us. Even if they only have it for a short time before they leave us, that time living in the moment loved, is everything.
I provide palliative care to rescue dogs. We fix em up, get em as comfortable as possible and happy with the routine and let their personalities dictate their level of care. Quality of life is the important part. They know they are loved. They know they are safe. They have zero worries and all needs met until the day they let me know it's enough. It's a privilege to be able to provide that for them. Thank you so much for sharing and caring. We know the effort and attention makes a huge difference. ❤
I have adopted old dogs that I pulled from a shelter. I try to give them the best possible life for whatever time they have left. Thank you for giving Pearl a safe, loving place for her last days❤
I'll agree with that. We, being older folks, tend to adopt old dogs. I've made arrangements for them, if we don't outlive them. At the moment, we have an about-15-year-old generic, medium sized brown dog, and the most terrified little min-pin I've ever seen, who is now maybe 7. We adopted him two years ago, when a beloved chihuahua reached the end of her life. Both our current dogs are thriving. Thank you, CC, for doing the same for your horses.

I foster kittens. Some come to me very sick and within a few days, I lose them. Breaks my heart every time but I feel like I have given the love and care for however long I have them. Same with Pearl. You are making her time here easier and you are showing her that someone cares. I would say the universe agrees in the form of beautiful rainbows.

Crap. The title of this video made it clear it was going to be hard news, I just didn't think it was going to be quite *that* hard. I know the work you do is for your own internal reasons and not for recognition from random strangers on the internet but still I want to say how much I admire you putting this particular kind of love out into the world. Of course it is Pearl who benefits most directly but really the work you do heals the whole planet. I feel it myself here on my little horse farm in Washington.
Such a surprise to me that I felt this as deeply as I did. I’m a teary mess. The thing that gets me is Pearl’s total trust in CC from the beginning. She knew she was in good hands and you can’t fake that for ratings on TH-cam!
Double rainbow, double promise! My husband and I had a double rainbow that almost had a triple rainbow briefly on our honeymoon. It was so beautiful, we were driving home and had to pull over and stop to record. Each time we began to leave, it became more brillliant. So beautiful, full of promise. Whatever that promise may hold. We were given 7 wonderful years together before he went home. He is forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing, for the memory, Pearl is blessed to have you! I think Pearl has aligned your small sweet universe. You had all the signs you needed that afternoon. We believe in your efforts too. It is a wonderful thing to be able to take things one day at a time. I kept rechecking my subscriptions today to see if you posted. Stay strong and know you have a purpose with certain special horses that are put in your path.
20:47 would make a lovely picture to put in a calendar, if you make one sometime. I'm sorry Pearl has underlying health issues but she is so much happier. She loves hearing you call her, enjoys her food, has a form of animal company, etc.
I wouldn't worry too much about it. An old horse may well have all sorts of lumps, bumps and even 'cancerous' growths, but anything else can suddenly give out too. We used to have a herd of retired ex-riding school ponies on the farm where I live, all with various health conditions (and most now buried here), but you can't reliably predict how long a horse will live with anything. Old age means by its very nature that the body is starting to fail, so the heart may give out or a horse might stumble and break a leg (which usually means putting them down). My old gelding (who Ziggy resembles very closely) survived founder, grass sickness and a damaged pelvis, only for his gut to suddenly stop working when he was rising 25. My 26 yo mare was fine one day, and put down the next because of a fatal colic. Her daughter, now rising 27, came galloping to greet me today, but tomorrow? My point is, you just don't know, so there's no point stressing over how long you've got with an old horse. Just make the most of whatever time is left, and sometimes they surprise you. Despite COPD and some other issues, one of the old riding school ponies just kept going and going, until she was around 40.
My grandkids got me a wall calendar for Christmas with pictures of our family over the past year. They told me they did it on the computer and it didn’t cost much. I started thinking about CC and her animals family. Do you think it is a possible money making idea for her to make a calendar with all the animals? She could have it stored in the computer and send the calendar straight to the buyers (Us🥰) I’d buy one!! Just thinking how to help her.
From this uneducated observer, Pearl has been a gift; Pearl to you and you to her. She looks so much better than when you first brought her home, stronger even. Whatever needs to be decided when it’s time (if ever), you have the wisdom, knowledge and courage to do so.
Yes, that sad look of exhaustion…that dull eye of hopelessness…gone! She’s alert, perks up her sweet ears to her name! Trusts CC, looks forward to her vet visit ride with the other horses. Doesn’t object to the exams and blankets, and blood tests. Such a sweet mare. And so lucky to have caught the eye of one of only a few that would knowingly take on an older sick horse…sure to cause expense and heartache.

However, this is over 12 years ago now…when we did buy “arborist line” my boss usually used Sherrill Tree and TreeStuff as the companies he bought his equipment from. A dear friend of mine does hospice work for tiny dogs and none were expected to live long, but a few surprised everyone. Perhaps Pearl will surprise us too. At any rate, you gave her a soft landing & perhaps more love than she may have ever experienced. The best things you offer all of your horses is patience and respect.
Your love and care will make Pearl's final days the best that they can be and when the time comes the eagles will be back to take her spirit over that amazing rainbow. You are an amazing person!

I have a similar "dome rainbow" photo of my mom's farm, a couple years before her death from dementia. It makes me think of home, love and security -- all of the things that CC gives to Pearl and the rest of her fur family. I'm so grateful there's someone like CC doing this mission, and sharing it with us.

"Neoplasia" - not a surprise when in your last video you mentioned how her melanomas had grown significantly. Unfortunately they go with the territory when you are dealing with gray horses and they can spread to places you cannot see. But as long as she is comfortable and eating well, I'd just take it day by day. She will let you know when she is done with her journey and it is time for her to leave.
I don’t have horses (yet), but I do adopt senior cats. I know I may not have much time with them, but I know I make their final years infinitely better than spending their last hours in a cold and terrifying shelter. I know it’s emotionally exhausting, but you are giving them a tremendous gift

After seeing her bloodwork and how much extra food she needs to sustain herself, I think they took care of her the best they could. Wish they wouldn't have taken her to a sale though.
@@TheCleverCowgirl But you were there to catch her as she was falling. Remember that the sale was the best thing whether the sellers knew it or not. And you know what, Pearl has something special (as do they all) but I mean she “gets it” about life. She is deeply spiritual whatever that may mean in the best sense. I don’t think it’s just her age, I think she was like this early on in life. I’ve had animals who just seem to have a deeper breadth to them and she’s got it in spades. Some humans have it, some wild animals, and some domestic but NOT ALL by far. Again, thank YOU. It’s delightful to see you care for her.
Hello, I started watching your channel some time ago. One thing that stood up about you something I had not noticed in any channel I had watched in the past. Your love for horses is very genuine. You have a golden heart 💛. Many people need to learn from you, your dedication, the time you put out, your endurance, tenacity, LOVE and your unselfish attitude is amazing enjoy pearl a lot she enjoys you very much. Many years ago I found a three-legged stray cat. I took her home and named her Lucky. After only six months she ended up with kidney failure. Whrn I had to make the tough decision, I said to the vet that I guessed she wasn't very Lucky after all. He said, "Of course she was. She had you at the end of her life."
That was a huge comfort to me. Please let the same thought comfort you regardless of what happens in Pearl's future. She is lucky that she has YOU at the end of her life. ❤️

I've always found most animals just want simple things. Good water, food, friends, a place to run around, and, very importantly, to feel safe and loved by us. Even if they only have it for a short time before they leave us, that time living in the moment loved, is everything.

I provide palliative care to rescue dogs. We fix em up, get em as comfortable as possible and happy with the routine and let their personalities dictate their level of care. Quality of life is the important part. They know they are loved. They know they are safe. They have zero worries and all needs met until the day they let me know it's enough. It's a privilege to be able to provide that for them. Thank you so much for sharing and caring. We know the effort and attention makes a huge difference. ❤
I have adopted old dogs that I pulled from a shelter. I try to give them the best possible life for whatever time they have left. Thank you for giving Pearl a safe, loving place for her last days❤
I'll agree with that. We, being older folks, tend to adopt old dogs. I've made arrangements for them, if we don't outlive them. At the moment, we have an about-15-year-old generic, medium sized brown dog, and the most terrified little min-pin I've ever seen, who is now maybe 7. We adopted him two years ago, when a beloved chihuahua reached the end of her life. Both our current dogs are thriving. Thank you, CC, for doing the same for your horses.

I foster kittens. Some come to me very sick and within a few days, I lose them. Breaks my heart every time but I feel like I have given the love and care for however long I have them. Crap. The title of this video made it clear it was going to be hard news, I just didn't think it was going to be quite *that* hard. I know the work you do is for your own internal reasons and not for recognition from random strangers on the internet but still I want to say how much I admire you putting this particular kind of love out into the world. Of course it is Pearl who benefits most directly but really the work you do heals the whole planet. I feel it myself here on my little horse farm in Washington.
Such a surprise to me that I felt this as deeply as I did. I’m a teary mess. The thing that gets me is Pearl’s total trust in CC from the beginning. She knew she was in good hands and you can’t fake that for ratings on TH-cam!

Double rainbow, double promise! My husband and I had a double rainbow that almost had a triple rainbow briefly on our honeymoon. It was so beautiful, we were driving home and had to pull over and stop to record. Each time we began to leave, it became more brillliant. So beautiful, full of promise. Whatever that promise may hold. We were given 7 wonderful years together before he went home. He is forever in my heart. Thank you for sharing, for the memory, Pearl is blessed to have you! 20:47 would make a lovely picture to put in a calendar, if you make one sometime. I'm sorry Pearl has underlying health issues but she is so much happier. She loves hearing you call her, enjoys her food, has a form of animal company, etc.

I wouldn't worry too much about it. An old horse may well have all sorts of lumps, bumps and even 'cancerous' growths, but anything else can suddenly give out too. We used to have a herd of retired ex-riding school ponies on the farm where I live, all with various health conditions (and most now buried here), but you can't reliably predict how long a horse will live with anything. Old age means by its very nature that the body is starting to fail, so the heart may give out or a horse might stumble and break a leg (which usually means putting them down). My old gelding (who Ziggy resembles very closely) survived founder, grass sickness and a damaged pelvis, only for his gut to suddenly stop working when he was rising 25. My 26 yo mare was fine one day, and put down the next because of a fatal colic. Her daughter, now rising 27, came galloping to greet me today, but tomorrow? My point is, you just don't know, so there's no point stressing over how long you've got with an old horse. Just make the most of whatever time is left, and sometimes they surprise you. Despite COPD and some other issues, one of the old riding school ponies just kept going and going, until she was around 40.
My grandkids got me a wall calendar for Christmas with pictures of our family over the past year. They told me they did it on the computer and it didn’t cost much. I started thinking about CC and her animals family. Do you think it is a possible money making idea for her to make a calendar with all the animals? She could have it stored in the computer and send the calendar straight to the buyers (Us🥰) I’d buy one!! Just thinking how to help her.

From this uneducated observer, Pearl has been a gift; Pearl to you and you to her. She looks so much better than when you first brought her home, stronger even. Whatever needs to be decided when it’s time (if ever), you have the wisdom, knowledge and courage to do so.
Yes, that sad look of exhaustion…that dull eye of hopelessness…gone! She’s alert, perks up her sweet ears to her name! Trusts CC, looks forward to her vet visit ride with the other horses. Doesn’t object to the exams and blankets, and blood tests. Such a sweet mare. And so lucky to have caught the eye of one of only a few that would knowingly take on an older sick horse…sure to cause expense and heartache.

Hey CC, I used to work for a Tree company, if you’re talking about the purple thicker rope on the right of the screen at 7:35ish, I used to work with that exact line. However, this is over 12 years ago now…when we did buy “arborist line” my boss usually used Sherrill Tree and TreeStuff as the companies he bought his equipment from. I hope that helps you find more because indeed, that is fine, fat rope!

A dear friend of mine does hospice work for tiny dogs and none were expected to live long, but a few surprised everyone. Perhaps Pearl will surprise us too. At any rate, you gave her a soft landing & perhaps more love than she may have ever experienced. The best things you offer all of your horses is patience and respect.
Your love and care will make Pearl's final days the best that they can be and when the time comes the eagles will be back to take her spirit over that amazing rainbow. You are an amazing person!

I have a similar "dome rainbow" photo of my mom's farm, a couple years before her death from dementia. It makes me think of home, love and security -- all of the things that CC gives to Pearl and the rest of her fur family. I'm so grateful there's someone like CC doing this mission, and sharing it with us.

"Neoplasia" - not a surprise when in your last video you mentioned how her melanomas had grown significantly. Unfortunately they go with the territory when you are dealing with gray horses and they can spread to places you cannot see. But as long as she is comfortable and eating well, I'd just take it day by day. She will let you know when she is done with her journey and it is time for her to leave.
I don’t have horses (yet), but I do adopt senior cats. I know I may not have much time with them, but I know I make their final years infinitely better than spending their last hours in a cold and terrifying shelter. I know it’s emotionally exhausting, but you are giving them a tremendous gift

After seeing her bloodwork and how much extra food she needs to sustain herself, I think they took care of her the best they could. Wish they wouldn't have taken her to a sale though.

And you know what, Pearl has something special (as do they all) but I mean she “gets it” about life. She is deeply spiritual whatever that may mean in the best sense. I don’t think it’s just her age, I think she was like this early on in life. I’ve had animals who just seem to have a deeper breadth to them and she’s got it in spades. Some humans have it, some wild animals, and some domestic but NOT ALL by far. Again, thank YOU. It’s delightful to see you care for her.
