Pearl already looks and acts better. I'm so happy she finally has a diagnosis. She's a beautiful mare and I hope she's able to come back to her full health and enjoy her life now that's she's getting the proper care.
When we first saw Pearl she was so bedraggled, she seemed small. Watching you load her onto the trailer a short while back, I was amazed to see what a big horse she actually is! From beat-down old babymaker to where she is now...WOW! We're all just so happy you took her on.
We adopted a senior dog (17 years) last Feb - there is a satisfaction in helping these animals that have been discarded for whatever reason. We had 8 good months with our little cutie. You take caring for your rescues to a whole new level. You could easily write a primer for taking on auction horses.
I love that you rescued a senior. Knowing that goodbye isn’t very far away yet having enough strength to make sure what time they do have is good time.❤️
Taking on a senior is so admirable and can be so expensive. I think you’re an amazing person to give her a chance in the twilight of her life. Blessings to you and the whole herd.
So happy to hear there is treatment for what ails Pearl. She's beautiful. It's sad that her entire life was having babies and was thrown away after the last one was born. All the horses have their sad tales to tell, but they are now living in Paradise due to your care. Thank you for your kindness to them.
That fluid retention hurts humans. Those in-between temps hurt my bones. I'm no spring chicken. I'm so happy Pearl has a peaceful place to spend her golden years...❤
His facial expressions get me all the time. My friend owns a Shagya Arab and he is the same. One time he had that Kermit the frog expression, it was years ago and it still makes me laugh thinking about it. They really can show when they are not amused (or when they are).
I bet Pearl just got exhausted from the fireworks and with an elevated cortisol level from PPID they feel all of that so much more. My old guy with PPID gets miserable when he decompensates. He’s now up to 2 Prascend a day but much happier. I hope Pearl feels the same with treatment.
@@TheCleverCowgirl my guy is fungus prone too. You might want to look into immune boosting supplements. Seems to have helped mine, maybe will help Pearl. And definitely not sweating is key!
Yeah, just from her reaction to the paper lantern CC found, I bet she had a rough New Year's night. Glad she's feeling better and on the road to wellness!
Could you consider moving the shelter from the quarantine pen assuming of course that it belongs to you? It seemed to me (in some of your earlier videos in 2024) that it would be comfortably large enough for Pearl as it is a large structure and roof in itself but it is also like Nigel's shelter totally open fronted. Conversely could Pearl happily live for a while in the quarantine per away from a "pestering" Scarlett?
Nothing about owning and caring for horses is for the weak of heart. Your knowledge of these very deserving but abused horses aliments is very educational. The time you've spent studying is amazing.
SO glad there is improvement in Pearl, CC! Wishing her continued improvement. You have made strides with organizing your operation too. I love that vacuum. :) Looking forward to your next video and I hope Ziggy can get some more time with you. ♥
I learn so much from you. A friend was appalled at my analysis of my horse’s poop as I was cleaning her dry paddock, poking around with the fork. I don’t blanket my mare because she runs warm and she can forage all night long. I recently read an article about lower critical temperature for horses with winter coats and it supports your methods. I have adjusted her feed and grazing times based on ideas brought up by you about sugar. She is now at a healthy weight with a coat full of dapples and I think she has gained an inch at the withers.
Don't forget that vegetable oils and fats (Fats = solidified oils afterall!) let alone animal or fish oils are in simple terms 2.5 times more energy rich than starches and sugars when comparing similar weights of foodstuffs of similar moisture percentages. In simple terms fats and oils are rocket fuels compared to dietary starch and sugars based on calorific values.

I've never seen a horse that enjoys belly scratches as much a Pearl seems to.
With the edema in her belly, her skin in that area can be a little extra itchy and it's an area which is difficult for horses to scratch themselves.
