It's like that King of the Hill ep with Bobby on that quiz team. The one where he had to watch literally everything he could.
As far as underrated animated movies are concerned, Megamind takes the cake. I'm glad to see it getting bigger in pop culture stuff now, but it was just non-existent when it was made, which was a huge shame.
Hot take? Megamind kinda sucks. I watched the movie and, imo, it just doesn’t have much going for it besides some of the same inversions of classic tropes that most all “modern” retellings of stories try to do now. It’s not a bad movie but I dunno, just isn’t very good.

I put Transformers Prime as my favorite its sad how MLP overshadowed it so badly even though i believe it has far better animation and coherent story line and great characters and villains while also being a bit dark but still got humor in it
Pan’s channel in general makes me really nostalgic, but videos like this specifically make remember why I love art and animation so much. It’s a really nice feeling to be nostalgic in a positive way, especially as someone who’s too young to experience a lot of the shows and be nostalgic about them. I have a lot of unnecessary cartoon trivia and it’s all thanks to Pan.
I think I like Pan because of his cynical sarcastic attitude. Most of these kind of year-ender/decade end reviews wouldn't mention how The Lego movie series is probably over or the fact that Netflix probably cancelled both Bojack and that other one because of unionization. I respect him for that alone.

It’s crazy how far this decade has come in animations. I remember the early years were filled with 90s nostalgia, but I’m glad we mostly grew out of it
Sym-Bionic Titan was amazing and I'm legitimately upset it got cancelled after just 20 episodes, but Samurai Jack got a proper finale so atleast there's hope we can get a Season 2, right? right? Also I want a Darkstalkers cartoon

kinda agree I love those characters and I think most people didn't give it enough credit because the setting was so different from the classic. But still this decade had some very great cartoons
Seems like no one talks about it anymore which makes me sad since it deserves to be talk about. Sadly it seems like the same thing is happening to Rise of TMNT which is also a good show and IMO the best animated TMNT show out there.
As someone who likes and watches every TMNT animated adaption, TMNT 2012 was the definitive TMNT cartoon. It got the balance between comedy and action perfectly, it managed to get more disturbing than the darker 2k3 series, and just overall the actual spiritual successor to the 2k3 Teen Titans series for those who were pissed off at TTG. I think it's as close to the Archie TMNT Adventures comic as we're gonna get. It's probably my favorite of the Shredders. he kidnaps Splinter's daughter and brainwashes her because he thinks that he's entitled Tang Shen's love. He let the entire planet blow up just to kill Splinter. Just a horrifying psychopath as a villain with Kevin Michael Richardson's evilest sounding voice.
We're talking on the subject of animated TV shows, but yeah. Damn right the 1990 movie was a perfect interpretation of the characters. Hell, I'd say it was one of the best comic book movie adaptions of all time, and it was made at a time when that sort of thing wasn't viable. Too bad they let the parental groups and angry letters dictate the second one.
Not sure if it counts but one of the best things in animation that happened this decade was A Fox in Space. Not only is it a very good fan cartoon but it's easily one of the best things to come out of the StarFox franchise since... well Star Fox 64. Here's hoping Episode 2 comes out next year.
A Fox in Space is so good that it feels like it came from another dimension. It's a perfect marriage of Nintendo's lore and Adult Swim's aesthetic, yet at the same time, it's way more than the sum of those parts. The fact that it's still such an underappreciated and underfunded independent project is depressing as hell
I really can't wait to see the sequel of Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse and hopefully Peni Parker, Spiderman Noir and Spiderham will receive more screen time.
My only concern is that it is going to be hard to top the original’s creativity and passion. But if there is any team that could, then it is the team that made Into the Spider-Verse in the first place.
I hecking LOVE Gen Rex! I wish they continued the series to show the different kind of threats that would show up and also show what happened with Van Klies (idk how to spell his name) and his crew.
With Megamind getting so much attention now, can we get people to relook at Captain Underpants too? Captain Underpants has a similar story, having to go against juggernaut superhero movie, Wonder Woman, because Dreamworks switched the release dates of Boss Baby and Captain Underpants, and the varied art styles and general care done with Captain Underpants is amazing.

Ooohh, very good one! Though, that movie...made me very depressed. And I'm usually the cheerful one working to cheer up depressed people, lol. Everyone in the movie was rather ugly and mean-spirited or awful things kept happening to the characters. It was such a bitter-sweet ending. Definitely recommend it to people but if you're susceptible to depression, don't watch it alone. I've seen it twice and both times just left me feeling winded. I've not been able to recommend it to my friends in good faith due to its dark subject matter, unless I want to have an all-nighter of cheering them back up.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley That's what I like about it. It's horror that leaves an impact on you. It's not just "BOO! Did I scare ya?". It just has a very dark atmosphere, and an unfortunate situation for the characters. It's the same reason I love the games OFF and Lisa.

3d animation is just as powerful as (or possibly even more powerful than) 2d animation, its just a lot of people don't know how to use it right or take full advantage of it heck its even possible to make perfectly looking 2D animated things with 3d animation

Animat's opinion on Hotel Transylvania's animation is something I will never understand. The first movie is a showcase of some of the best Looney Tunes-esque animation of the decade and a love letter to the 50s and 60s eras when this sort of animation ruled surpreme. Say what you will about the franchise itself (I actually like the first one despite its flaws.), but the animation is certainly not bad by any stretch.
I feel we've really learned a lot from this decade on how we can make cartoons and animation better overall. I feel the 2020s are gonna be a really good point in time for animation.
I'm actually upset at how many people didnt give spiderman a chance because of the animation style, the comic book kinda glitchy look is very fitting and the story is awesome
I'm so glad that Generator Rex and Sym-Bionic Titan, two of Cartoon Network's underrated animated show, are one of my favorite animated shows of my life and so happy to see them on the list

An extremely underrated show for me is still Rise of the TMNT. Even if you don’t like the writing or characters, you can’t deny how otherworldly the animation is
Visually it's gorgeous but in every other aspect it falls flat for me. I'll continue to give it a chance as it goes on, but I will at least place it above the 2012 series (a show I really don't think is very good).

What? No clone wars? That was an amazing action show. What cartoon would have one of the most friendly soldier characters accidentally be killed by one of the protagonists in a hectic friendly fire scenario? There was so much death in that show. Has some of the best war centered action I've ever seen.
Wrong decade dumbass... Also, RIDICULOUSLY variable in quality. Some arcs are great, but significant parts of that show's run are absolute dogshit. If you want a good (and consistent!) Star Wars cartoon that's ACTUALLY from the 2010's, check out Rebels.
I do want to mention that Internet-based animation really took off this decade. While the 2000s only saw independent creators dabble in Flash (especially in the latter half), web animation truly flourished in the 2010s with the rise of TH-cam and communication over the Internet being several orders of magnitude more accessible. Those little animations that animators do on the side are no longer limited to college animation festivals but can be beamed straight to your household on demand over several miles of copper (or fiber optics). One of my favorite things about this trend is seeing how animators grow and develop in real time. I follow a few series and comparing their earliest episodes from the beginning of the decade to now is like night and day. It still somehow amazes me that they put this stuff out for free.
What about legends of the guardians the owls of Gahoole that film is criminally underrated.That movie has some of the best animation ever with the owls looking so realistic. Directed by Zach Snyder a more darker animated movie an owl war film with elements from 300. It also has owl slavery. It had amazing 3D even on the 3D blu ray.
It was one of those shows that should have ended way sooner, not because it was bad, but because it was obvious they ran out of material after a certain point. A lot of shows in the 2010s made me feel that way and it's a shame that my last memory of them is "Oh, yeah I stopped watching that shit a couple years ago."
@@Dominion69420 7-8 seasons is honestly too much. Usually after 5 or 6 seasons, the quality drops significantly (likely because many of the original writers have left) and you start to lose interest. MLP definitely fell into that category because everything after season 5 was awful and the last really _good_ season was season 4.

I’m actually amazed you didn’t spend a sizable chunk of time on Kubo. No, it may not have been as amazing as something like Spiderverse, but it certainly deserved better than what it got, and I have a funny feeling that it will be regarded as The Iron Giant of the 2010’s, since I know a lot of kids will grow up loving it, and we’ll always wish it had done a little better.
it has merchandise that sell really well, getting a spinoff based on the bears as cubs, & a tv movie in 2020. plus it's really popular in asian countries. hell, it even has merchandise that sold only in china that did really good before the show actually got licensed there
I think it's perfectly rated. It's good, but it's also another one of those "comfy" shows where there's no laugh-out-loud comedy, just consistent amusement, and no meaningful writing beyond surface-level emotional moments. It doesn't really excel in any particular area.

I know it's the generation we now live in and it says something about my age but something about a panda using a smartphone just instantly turned me off from the show. No...it was the phone AND selfie-stick. For a while, those things were everywhere and I loathed their existence. Kind of still do. But yes, that alone made me not want to watch it. First impressions and all that...

My TV show this decade would have to be the one about a dog that shouts "Bow Wacka Wow!" (If you guys know what I'm talking about, you're awesome.) As for my favorite movie this decade, **shoulder touch** "Hey."
To this day I just still can't believe how the masterpiece "It's Such A Beautiful Day" still keeps getting so ignored. Don Hertzfeldt made a masterpiece about an ill man, and all of it just has this special feeling to it, the memory loss, and frustration with everything day life are topic that are dealt with such a delicate touch that it just adds this weird but sentimental charm that it's all over the place. My favorite movie of all time and my top animated movie of the decade
As a big Tintin fan who grew up with the comics, I agree. I am a bit disappointed that the sequels never came into fruition despite willingness by the directors of wanting to proceed with it. Oh well, at least the movie is pretty great, and has aged quite well overall.
When it comes to Western animated shows from the 2010s, Adventure Time is still my favorite. I know a lot of people fell off the show during season 6, but I personally enjoyed how it gradually began to cover more existential topics while becoming increasingly story focused. The last season wasn't the strongest, but I really liked the finale, even if it could have used a longer running time. Gravity Falls also ranks fairly high for me, especially for its humor; for whatever reason, though, I was never quite as invested in its overarching story as a lot of other people seemed to be. Overall, the first three seasons of Steven Universe were pretty excellent, but I wasn't particularly fond of the pacing of seasons 4 or 5 or the way in which the story was resolved. I was surprised at how good the first two seasons of Star Vs. ended up being once the overarching story kicked in, but I gradually started to lose interest after The Battle for Mewni. Based on what I've heard about season 4, I'm reluctant to pick it up again. Over the Garden Wall and Infinity Train were both great, but it's a little hard to compare them with the full-length cartoons. Bojack Horseman is definitely my favorite modern adult cartoon in terms of pathos and characterization, and Rick & Morty is my favorite in terms of humor and creativity.
@@fizzpeak123 The third season wasn't so bad, at least for me. The way they set up Marco arriving in Mewni was really iffy, I can look past the break-up with Jackie, however the knights treating Marco terribly really bugged me, especially after his involvement in saving the kingdom. It was in Season 4 that the ships began to hinder the show, but when it comes to appreciated Marco and Kelly's relationship, combined with Tom's personal development. Eclipsa didn't disappoint at all, also Miss Heinous was given much more depth. The season finale was epic, in my opinion, featured the best music in the show. Not a perfect season, but I loved it nonetheless, though it is a pity that a lot of the things it set up were hardly ever followed again in the fourth season.
Finally! You noticed Seis Manos on a video. Ps. one of the artists who worked on the series goes by EmptyFeet on TH-cam (or ToastyHat on Tumblr) I watched it one setting and its thanks to you mentioning it on your Twitter. Cant wait for season 2. thanks for introducing the series to me.

2010 was the decade where it became a norm to watch kid cartoons as an adult.
Maybe, college kids _were_ really into Spongebob back when it came out though. So much so that they started playing it on MTV.

Seems like no one talks about it anymore which makes me sad since it deserves to be talk about. Sadly it seems like the same thing is happening to Rise of TMNT which is also a good show and IMO the best animated TMNT show out there.
As someone who likes and watches every TMNT animated adaption, TMNT 2012 was the definitive TMNT cartoon. It got the balance between comedy and action perfectly, it managed to get more disturbing than the darker 2k3 series, and just overall the actual spiritual successor to the 2k3 Teen Titans series for those who were pissed off at TTG. I think it's as close to the Archie TMNT Adventures comic as we're gonna get. It's probably my favorite of the Shredders. he kidnaps Splinter's daughter and brainwashes her because he thinks that he's entitled Tang Shen's love. He let the entire planet blow up just to kill Splinter. Just a horrifying psychopath as a villain with Kevin Michael Richardson's evilest sounding voice.
We're talking on the subject of animated TV shows, but yeah. Damn right the 1990 movie was a perfect interpretation of the characters. Hell, I'd say it was one of the best comic book movie adaptions of all time, and it was made at a time when that sort of thing wasn't viable. Too bad they let the parental groups and angry letters dictate the second one.
Not sure if it counts but one of the best things in animation that happened this decade was A Fox in Space. Not only is it a very good fan cartoon but it's easily one of the best things to come out of the StarFox franchise since... well Star Fox 64.
Here's hoping Episode 2 comes out next year.

A Fox in Space is so good that it feels like it came from another dimension. It's a perfect marriage of Nintendo's lore and Adult Swim's aesthetic, yet at the same time, it's way more than the sum of those parts.
The fact that it's still such an underappreciated and underfunded independent project is depressing as hell
I really can't wait to see the sequel of Spiderman: Into the Spider-Verse and hopefully Peni Parker, Spiderman Noir and Spiderham will receive more screen time.
My only concern is that it is going to be hard to top the original’s creativity and passion. But if there is any team that could, then it is the team that made Into the Spider-Verse in the first place.
Theyve confirmed that live action Japanese Spiderman is gonna be in it. Im hoping for Ben Riley and Spiderman 2099 to be a part of it.

Captain Underpants has a similar story, having to go against juggernaut superhero movie, Wonder Woman, because Dreamworks switched the release dates of Boss Baby and Captain Underpants, and the varied art styles and general care done with Captain Underpants is amazing.

My man! That's one of my favorite animated movies ever. It blew my mind with how unique, creepy, and surreal it is.
Ooohh, very good one! Though, that movie...made me very depressed. And I'm usually the cheerful one working to cheer up depressed people, lol. Everyone in the movie was rather ugly and mean-spirited or awful things kept happening to the characters. It was such a bitter-sweet ending. Definitely recommend it to people but if you're susceptible to depression, don't watch it alone. I've seen it twice and both times just left me feeling winded. I've not been able to recommend it to my friends in good faith due to its dark subject matter, unless I want to have an all-nighter of cheering them back up.
@@BewareTheLilyOfTheValley That's what I like about it. It's horror that leaves an impact on you. It's not just "BOO! Did I scare ya?". It just has a very dark atmosphere, and an unfortunate situation for the characters. It's the same reason I love the games OFF and Lisa.

Animat's opinion on Hotel Transylvania's animation is something I will never understand. The first movie is a showcase of some of the best Looney Tunes-esque animation of the decade and a love letter to the 50s and 60s eras when this sort of animation ruled surpreme. Say what you will about the franchise itself (I actually like the first one despite its flaws.), but the animation is certainly not bad by any stretch.
Arguably my favorite show of all time is Wander over Yonder, since I love aliens and fun/casual junk.

An extremely underrated show for me is still Rise of the TMNT. Even if you don’t like the writing or characters, you can’t deny how otherworldly the animation is
Visually it's gorgeous but in every other aspect it falls flat for me. I'll continue to give it a chance as it goes on, but I will at least place it above the 2012 series (a show I really don't think is very good).

What? No clone wars? That was an amazing action show. What cartoon would have one of the most friendly soldier characters accidentally be killed by one of the protagonists in a hectic friendly fire scenario? There was so much death in that show. Has some of the best war centered action I've ever seen.
Wrong decade dumbass... Also, RIDICULOUSLY variable in quality. Some arcs are great, but significant parts of that show's run are absolute dogshit. If you want a good (and consistent!) Star Wars cartoon that's ACTUALLY from the 2010's, check out Rebels.

I do want to mention that Internet-based animation really took off this decade. While the 2000s only saw independent creators dabble in Flash (especially in the latter half), web animation truly flourished in the 2010s with the rise of TH-cam and communication over the Internet being several orders of magnitude more accessible. Those little animations that animators do on the side are no longer limited to college animation festivals but can be beamed straight to your household on demand over several miles of copper (or fiber optics).
One of my favorite things about this trend is seeing how animators grow and develop in real time. I follow a few series and comparing their earliest episodes from the beginning of the decade to now is like night and day. It still somehow amazes me that they put this stuff out for free.
What about legends of the guardians the owls of Gahoole that film is criminally underrated.That movie has some of the best animation ever with the owls looking so realistic. Directed by Zach Snyder a more darker animated movie an owl war film with elements from 300. It also has owl slavery. It had amazing 3D even on the 3D blu ray.

I was spoofed, but yeah MLP FIM was the beat that has happened to me.
It was one of those shows that should have ended way sooner, not because it was bad, but because it was obvious they ran out of material after a certain point. A lot of shows in the 2010s made me feel that way and it's a shame that my last memory of them is "Oh, yeah I stopped watching that shit a couple years ago."

@@Dominion69420 7-8 seasons is honestly too much. Usually after 5 or 6 seasons, the quality drops significantly (likely because many of the original writers have left) and you start to lose interest. MLP definitely fell into that category because everything after season 5 was awful and the last really _good_ season was season 4.

it has merchandise that sell really well, getting a spinoff based on the bears as cubs, & a tv movie in 2020. plus it's really popular in asian countries. hell, it even has merchandise that sold only in china that did really good before the show actually got licensed there
I think it's perfectly rated. It's good, but it's also another one of those "comfy" shows where there's no laugh-out-loud comedy, just consistent amusement, and no meaningful writing beyond surface-level emotional moments. It doesn't really excel in any particular area.

To this day I just still can't believe how the masterpiece "It's Such A Beautiful Day" still keeps getting so ignored.
Don Hertzfeldt made a masterpiece about an ill man, and all of it just has this special feeling to it, the memory loss, and frustration with everything day life are topic that are dealt with such a delicate touch that it just adds this weird but sentimental charm that it's all over the place.

As a big Tintin fan who grew up with the comics, I agree. I am a bit disappointed that the sequels never came into fruition despite willingness by the directors of wanting to proceed with it. Oh well, at least the movie is pretty great, and has aged quite well overall.

When it comes to Western animated shows from the 2010s, Adventure Time is still my favorite. I know a lot of people fell off the show during season 6, but I personally enjoyed how it gradually began to cover more existential topics while becoming increasingly story focused. The last season wasn't the strongest, but I really liked the finale, even if it could have used a longer running time. Gravity Falls also ranks fairly high for me, especially for its humor; for whatever reason, though, I was never quite as invested in its overarching story as a lot of other people seemed to be. Overall, the first three seasons of Steven Universe were pretty excellent, but I wasn't particularly fond of the pacing of seasons 4 or 5 or the way in which the story was resolved.
I was surprised at how good the first two seasons of Star Vs. ended up being once the overarching story kicked in, but I gradually started to lose interest after The Battle for Mewni. Based on what I've heard about season 4, I'm reluctant to pick it up again. Over the Garden Wall and Infinity Train were both great, but it's a little hard to compare them with the full-length cartoons. Bojack Horseman is definitely my favorite modern adult cartoon in terms of pathos and characterization, and Rick & Morty is my favorite in terms of humor and creativity.

@@fizzpeak123 The third season wasn't so bad, at least for me. The way they set up Marco arriving in Mewni was really iffy, I can look past the break-up with Jackie, however the knights treating Marco terribly really bugged me, especially after his involvement in saving the kingdom. It was in Season 4 that the ships began to hinder the show, but when it comes to appreciated Marco and Kelly's relationship, combined with Tom's personal development. Eclipsa didn't disappoint at all, also Miss Heinous was given much more depth. The season finale was epic, in my opinion, featured the best music in the show. Not a perfect season, but I loved it nonetheless, though it is a pity that a lot of the things it set up were hardly ever followed again in the fourth season.
