At the cost of $1000 USD I’d rather buy a small utility trailer to pull my atv that’s crazy
Would take a ton of weight off the axle too and free up the bed for storage.

I couldn't help but notice how much the main support bar attached to the hitch receiver bends when you load up. This is quoted from Mad Ramps site
"Add together the total weight of the MAD-RAMPS Pivoting Ramp System (151 pounds) and two-thirds of the weight of your ATV or UTV (⅔ = machine weight x 0.67)."
2018 CAN AM XMR weight=990 lbs dry
Mad Ramps weight =151 lbs
990x0.67+151=814.3 lbs.
Class 3 hitch tongue weight up to 800lbs.
You guys are on that thin line. I would keep an eye on the structural integrity of your receiver if you plan to use this ramp system. I'm not even going to get into the weight distribution issue with having your quad sitting 1/2 to 3/4 way off the bed.

Far better than a trailer, assuming you're solo of course. The angle it's on makes your departure angle as good as you were with out it.

U know it is getting harder to find the 8 footers. Truck dealers can’t keep them on the lot and the half bed it the “new normal” I have a 2019 8 foot and I had to order it and test drive one with a short bed. 🙄😤

@@duffman1241 dude I sold my diesel. To cold where I live, went back to 3/4 ton gasser. Diesel took forever to warm up
great video, was looking into something better for transporting just one ATV and not having to use my big enclosed trailer. the bonus to this video is i get to see it on the back of a Ram Rebel a i just bought a Rebel last Thursday January 4th. thanks for the video.
When you put that amount of payload behind your axle it's dangerous. I dont like them. I'll tow a trailer any day.
But you hook a trailer to the bumper and tow it! How much does it weigh 750-800lbs? Similar to tongue weight on an enclosed trailer. It’s just a flawed design.

@@turbomustang8417 nope. I hook a trailer to my reciever hitch witch is mounted much lower than my bumper and my hitch tongue rating is 600 lbs. With a 6000lb trailer capacity. I can tow 2000 pounds of trailer and 2 atv's combo and my tongue weight is around 250lbs. My bed is empty for other items I may need.
@@foxracing0211 I've had many different brands of ATV's, dirtbikes and snowmobiles in the back of my truck with a 6.5" bed. The longer the snowmobile the lighter my steering got. The heavier the atv the more body roll I got and lighter steering. I can tow my snowmobile trailer 65mph and corner alot better than having a atv or mountain sled in the back. Your axle is a fulcrum, the more you put the weight behind it the worst the steering and handling gets......DUH. did you miss the part of school about weights and measure and fulcrums?!!! I Guess some people ain't that smart these days!!!
Great job on the video. I'd be interested to know how the extra rear weight affects the handling of the truck. Always good to see diesel. He's upping his actor cred.

It would be interesting to see how mush weight that setup takes off of the front STEERING axle.
There are been set ups that take the weight off tailgates for years by using the trucks rear hitch and some linkages to support the rear of quads. This is no different.
It will do that- bad for breaking and handling. A trailer with trailer brake is a safer solution.

Great Job Cass. I've seen this system in person and it's a pretty neat setup and I'm sure you guys will find it handy.
I know what you mean about towing a big trailer around for one quad, all we have is a 18' car hauler. Great for two or three quads but overkill for one haha.
This is perfect for people with limited parking and storage space. Trailers take up space . And not everyone has the room for a longer truck. I have a crew cab 8’ box .I am fortunate to have just enough room to park it in my driveway. Before that I had a 6’6’’ truck bed and used an atv riser platform to get the quad in enough to close the tail gate so I could tow a trailer if needed.
Nice job on the video guys, you're really upping your game and it shows! Question for you, do you find your steering "light" with the load of the ATV sitting so far back?

I never woulda been installing these ramps with flip flops. Drop any piece of this system on those toes and you'll be in a mess. BTW, that Girl has a rockin body!!!

My woman responding - I would never be without a diesel pickup and gooseneck or Tufflift(hydraulic sled deck, which uses snowplow motor and cylinder to set deck down over a closed tailgate. Things I never knew existed, now my superman shows me all about - traded in my bmw suv for a lifted duramax like my superman's

Don’t like the design but for everyone asking . Payload capacity is around 1500lbs Atv weighs 759-800lbs So it’s more about securing the load. No different than have a load of lumber in the bed.
That is a Can Am XMR 1000R which is on the Max 2up frame. From the factory it's a 1014lb machine. I have the same machine it sits in the back of my 5 1/2 truck bed basically from window to the end of my tailgate. You definitely know that machine is in the back. I've added DG tailgate supports because I don't trust the cables to hold that beast. Been on the fence about going the Mad Ramps route to get it off the gate or just buying a trailer. Only bonus about the mad ramps is storing them. I don't really want a trailer sitting in my driveway all year long but the trailer is definitely the safer way to go.

I'm confused, if you didn't have the truck cover would you still need that ramp? looks like it'll fit if the quad was pulled all the way into the bed or buy a truck with a long bed.

I ordered an extended cab with an eight foot box for this reason, and a trailer. Quad stored inside trailer for the winter frees up garage space
I don't like the quad sitting on the tailgate, loading is one thing - driving for miles with a load on the cables is another.
With the load that far back [1000lb ATV] how much weight is taken off the steer tires?
How far do the ramps stick out from the rear of the truck? I believe anything over three feet needs a red flag.

Yes, the rebels have bags from factory
OffroadDan uses these and they seem to work great. I'm lucky that my box length is big enough to just drive the Grizzly in and close the tail gate.
My old 1st gen was the same way I miss it, but theres always a solution!

Would be interesting to see that setup scaled before and after to see how much weight gets transferred off the front axle... Air bags improve sag but don't do anything to limit weight transfer and that's a lot of weight leveraged behind the rear axle. Lawyers would have a heyday in the case of a rear ender collision.

Depends on the atv weight, personally. I didn't mind in my ram cause it had air bags
I dont know if this was mentioned here yet i did notice though when you have the quad in the back and the ramps retracted to driving position thay they are really close to ur exhaust tips wonder if the heat would cause some melting or discoloration of the product ?

Simply pull pin and lift it off. Not very heavy.
oh my lol she talked about overkill at the beg of the video but those ramps are truly overkill, cant the tonneau cover just fold up and the back tires sit on tailgate like on my dodge dakota 5.5ft bed ?? ive got a grizzly 700 tailgate down back tires are right on gate tonneau cover folded against my back window

As long as you follow lighting regulations and maximum weight capacities yes. Depending on your truck and atv ie utv weight I'd suggest air bags or a 3/4 ton truck. That being said if it's a grizzly or something of that nature I wouldn't worry at all.
Just buy a trailer, it will be so much more useful.
For my situation these ramps are the perfect solution. I camp down a fire service road and towing a trailer 40+ kilometres down a pot hole and washboard road is miserable. I’ve also gone the sled deck route but it’s a pain to remove and store while I’m not using it. Also my truck is a 3500 mega cab so I don’t have an 8’ bed option to begin with.
Sorry, but I’ll stick to using my trailer to haul my four wheeler around.
These look neat, but I'm not really understanding the need for the lights. It doesn't block the tail lights on the truck. I think they could knock off at least $100 if they skipped the lights. I'd still love a set for my work truck.
After you put the ramps in there is not much ground clearance.

To each their own. I have NEVER seen this contraption used anywhere. Did not know it existed. And I can see why. So many cons to it. Others no doubt will cover it all. But wow, not impressed. I was wrong. Nobody mentioned the fact that driving a quad into the back of the truck with the cover not completely out of the way was an accident waiting to happen. lol. It only takes a few well thought out moments to do something correctly. Impatience/laziness invites disaster. ;).
As much as these cost I'd just buy a trailer 😂
That's the scariest solution to a non-truck hauling an oversized load. Anyone who buys the useless 5.7 bed is just tossing their money away and has NEVER owned a truck before. They dont know how useful it becomes and how many friends want you to help them when you own one lol.
