  • Finally folks, the bike is run in and its time to give my own personal impressions of this fantastic motorcycle. This upload is 1 of 2 that highlights both the motorcycle and some of the great roads n Northern Ireland. Oh and forgive the schoolboy error, I refer to the traction control light, it is infact the the gear change shift light which seems to be set around 7k rpm! Sorry about that ;) back to the manual to see how to change it!

      I tend to keep the screen in the middle position all the time and don’t notice too much buffeting. In its lowest position the wind is directly onto my chest

    Very good review. I'm returning to the UK in a few months and this is the bike I'm planning to buy. Seems like a perfect all-rounder and with the bags, great for a few days of touring.

    Great video David. I do like the fact you had one Z1000SX and liked it enough to replace it with another one. I hear a lot of owners change away from the Z1000SX after not owning them for very long, saying the bike "Is not what they expected". I don't understand what it was they expected but I find the 2017 model very tempting as it fixes the one or two niggles I had with the earlier models.

      pipnmaz Thanks for watching and commenting. I only had my 2013 model for a few months and 1600 miles before changing. I loved the power so it ticked the sports box, the handling and ride were predictable and go enough to tick the sports/touring box, it was the touring side that needed to be better due to seat and pillion comfort and wind protection. My 2013 also lacked abs and few lockups, power wheelies and slides made me a bit wary! So when the 2017 was announced that addressed all the areas I needed, it made perfect sense to go for it. I came from a vstrom 650 and naturally looked at s1000xr (too vibey) , r1200gs (odd handling when accelerating leant over) and multistrada (best of the lot but eye wateringly expensive) and tried the z just because I'd a free hour! I don't plan mega mile tours so the 2017 is perfect for me. The sports Tourer is always a compromise, I personally feel some people have unrealistic expectations, then blame the bike!

    So it is possible to change the rpm when the light starts blinking? Thats good news, I also thought that the rev-ounter should change color when the revs Went up. But i didn't see that. Or did i just miss it?

    My test ride was delayed until today, (note to self, don't book test rides on Mothers Day) really liked this bike. Had to put the windshield in it's lowest position otherwise my visor took the brunt of the wind blast. Love the engine it's makes overtakes an absolute breeze. I was expecting this to be a bit of a handful as I'm used to a much lighter bike but this hides it's weight really well, low and higher speed handling was a doddle. Almost certainly my next bike.
    I would be interested to know if the panniers make any difference to the handling if anyone has experience of this?

    • @davidhobson7851

      Zane an aftermarket screen like my powerbronze might work better since it's an inch higher. I've had the panniers At 100+ unloaded without issues

      Wayne Dafter thanks for watching and taking the time to comment, the new led lights literally night and day compared to the old Ines! For a start the pure white light seems to penetrate further on dipped headlight, maybe because both are on unlike only 1 being lit on earlier models. Main beam is just amazing with the distance it lights up, a sharp cut off in the reflector design and that ultra white light! I'm very pleased and don't worry about being caught out in the dark when riding home

      Hello David,thanks for the fast response. It baffles me why they put such poor lighting on the previous Ninja's. So many owners complain about them.
      The latest iteration of the Ninja has some very tasty upgrades...and great credit to Kawasaki for doing that. From beging to now they have continued to steadily improve the bike in so many ways.
      Cheers for sharing your experidnce with us.

    It seems like this bike is more popular in Europe than the US. I own one and it's a great bike... I usually ride in traction control mode 2. However, in Ireland I would assume is a wetter climate and the bike would work better in traction control mode 3.

    Got mine 5 days ago, traded in a Daytona 675 and a blackbird. This bike fills the void completly and closes the gap between the 2. I don't really notice the roughly 20 hp less it has compared to the bird as its geared lower. Can't say i miss the 180mph capable bird, this being 15 years newer makes a huge difference in comfort and rideability and its 160mph topspeed is more than enough on a bike with a fairly upright riding position. The transmission/engine is buttery smooth, It hides its weight really well and feels nimble and lightfooted. Rapidly falling in love with it . s2.postimg.org/oo5tfkyft/20170729_151806.jpg

    • @Sunedosa
      @Sunedosa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@modoudrammeh It's a great bike but take a testride before you make up your mind. I had it for 4 years and after an ecu flash the fueling was near perfect, the throttle was a bit jerky before that.
      I never quite could adapt to the very upright riding position, speeds over 100mph meant a lot of wind in the chest/shoulders but i think they have improved that now, the screen is a bit wider. Sold it last year and bought a 22 ZX10R instead.

      That's a very good point!
      I've always worried about the upright position! But I really don't want to get a busa or zx14 atm
      Just wanted something lighter than the blackbird which is already lighter than the busa and zx14r
      I think I'll book a test ride for the new ninja1000sx but I don't want to speed all that money on a new bike
      Looking at the bars I always low-key knew it was too upright, I really need something comfortable that can cruze at 120! Lol

      @Sunedosa 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@modoudrammeh I changed the bars to a set from overracing called OVER RACING Sport Riding Handlebar Kit 55-84-11. They're adjustable and in their lowest setting they're about 2 inches lower than oem and that made the bike feel better. It came very close to perfection with this, it just made me realize i wanted a spotbike again lol 😀

    I used to have a z1000sx so much so that I'm considering part exchanging my triumph tiger explorer for the 2017 bike. How is the pillion seat in comparison to the old one - is it still ridiculously uncomfortable?

    • @davidhobson7851
      @davidhobson7851  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I had a run on the explorer but it was just too tall for me, great engine though! My other half has only been own the back for 2x 45minute trips and she was far happier than on the 2013 model

    • @Attiph
      @Attiph 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeh - biggest problem with the explorer for me is just the sheer weight and size of it. Motorway cruising it's a dream. Comfortable, best wind protection I've ever experienced on a bike. Twisties shit loads of fun. But really one year in, the weight / height unfortunately just take that appeal away after a while - it becomes just a bit "too much" to take out for a spot of fun, the SX however at least for a solo ride was always adrenaline on tap.
