Great drumming. The video really demonstrates how taking one rudiment and changing the ostinato/orchestration can really make an interesting solo and how one rudiment can be and should be practiced at length to really reap the benefits. I am inspired to now go and practice as I am often guilty of moving from one idea to the next without exploring the possibilities. Thanks for sharing 😊
I ve been wearing out the single paradiddle for one week, and i still find great soundig new variations....rudiments are just awesome, its the key to every goal
@GrooveDrummin Very important indeed! You might wanna put up videos of the paradiddle variations Ian Paice uses, I'm interested and I think many people would be interested to know about it as well! And thanks for your lessons. You have AMAZING and as far as I can see, flawless technique and execution. Great work man.
Great stuff, thanks so much for sharing. This is a very musical rudiment and these rudiments make executing grooves and fills a much simpler and easier endeavor. Your drums sound fabulous.
i noticed that my traditional paradiddles get better when i vary them and do (for example) paradiddle-diddles, variety is the spice that keeps me going!
dan you are fantastic. Thanks......you make me want to go practice. I have a video using the paradiddle-diddles but you blow me out of the park. Keep making more vids!
Im at a loss for words,Dan you are 1 of best drum teachers on youtube!!! UH I dont know what to say. I guess just keep them coming your helping alot of drummers young & old! Keep on rockin Dan!!!
Hey Kool D I enjoyed this video and for awhile I thought I was listening to Don Brewer a style many have forgotten and many don't know of....As always your the man and thanks for another great video!!!!!!!
Hi, great rudiments, i like playing single paradiddle around the kit with the last two strokes using the bass drum... if that makes sence... great drumming loving your stuff : )
@dagozepp Yes for sure, this one I use all the time too! Dig this, I learned it a little different but when you get going it's the same as you mentioned. It matches this lesson here but instead it's LR. LRLLRR whereas this vid shows RLRRLL. When I practice stuff I like alternating between the inversions ex) RLR / LRL. Thanks for the input!
@TheDrumChannel What I find interesting is that I can do the same licks in single stroke and make them sound almost the same. I should have joined the drum corp wjem I was a kid.
Excellent- A new teacher w/ some Bonham-technique (since I last looked a few years ago...) If you de-interlace your video when you output it you'll lose that 'combing' effect, btw. (or maybe shoot progressive if poss.) Thanks again!
@Volentry Yes, that's right, i was trying to think of a catchier name for it but I guess I should have just call it as was already named. Anyway, this is a very useful stroke and it is my intention to share this one especially because I think it's a very important one to know.
is the floor tom pitched higher than the rack tom? -Willy Freebody (posted comment from offsite) CONFIRMED BY CLUBBBC TV FROM LOOKING SOME WEIRD RESULTS FROM YANDEX
@@GrooveDrumming Oh i get it because i just copied a Willy Freebody's comment that he made on many years ago. the floor tom is lower than the rack tom and Willy Freebody is kinda not smart at all when he thinks that the floor tom is higher than rack tom
did you have to drill a hole in your lud tom in order to install the pearl mount? and is that the omni mount that attatches the bottom rim as well as the top?
On your toms, do you use coated Emperors over coated Ambassadors? And please, will that combo sound good for jazz too? Or are the Emperors too thick? Thanks.
GrooveDrummin : Ok, thanks. I’ve got coated Ambassadors over coated Ambassadors right now. Going to coated bottoms was an improvement. I’ve added the para-diddle-diddles to my doubles and para-para-diddles, so thanks for that too.
That diddle really sounds like you're playing single stroke rolls! At the end of Highway star is Ian Paice playing (on his snare drum) a rudiment like this, or simply doing dbl stroke rolls or single stroke rolls? Please "fill" me in!
it's supposed to sound like single's...but doing it this way adds a wicked control factor to playing around the kit....Paice mixed it up...most of the time doubles
hey i had trouble playing this so i start with my left hand rather than my right. so instead of RLRRLL i do LRLLRR. is this normal? or is this even okay to be considered a paradiddle-diddle?
Thanks for a great lesson Dan. This was easy, and made a great addition to my vocabulary.

I am happy to hear your observations!

Thats awesome, so were are you 30 years ago for me. I could have been a contender. Great job God bless. Cheers.
I could watch your videos all day. Keep em coming
Dude. You’re a good drummer. And that’s coming from a drummer. 🤟🏻🤟🏻🤟🏻
Hey, thanks!
Dan is the Man !!! (with the best sounding kit on youtube !! )
Gee, thank you so much Frank!

Thanks for this lesson ! Your Paradiddle-diddles helped a lot,
you are a great song !
NICE... really like the way u ... break up the accents in different ways in the double paradiddle.. u are very smooth and even w the rudiment.
i noticed that my traditional paradiddles get better when i vary them and do (for example) paradiddle-diddles, variety is the spice that keeps me going!
Good lesson... I have learned it as, RR LL RL...samething. Simply a 5-stroke with added single.
Good Groovin, GrooveDrummin!
Also, because of my new-found appreciation for my drums, my 3 year old kid has recently started "swinging the lumber". Thanks so much.
dan you are fantastic. Thanks......you make me want to go practice. I have a video using the paradiddle-diddles but you blow me out of the park. Keep making more vids!
Really enjoying your channel! Helping me so much.
that's awesome!
Great video Dan!! I can see the Ian Paice finesse with the John Bonham thunder in your playing!!
@GrooveDrummin wow thanks man ...good idea will start working on it ...THANKS very much love your lessons especially the upstroke kick lick !!!
awesome playing. sounds great.

Hey Kool D I enjoyed this video and for awhile I thought I was listening to Don Brewer a style many have forgotten and many don't know of....As always your the man and thanks for another great video!!!!!!!
excellent lesson man, thank you very much !!
I have an original set of those Ludwig's with the champagne sparkles from the 60's! I love them
@Equeporquenao
That's a single paradiddle which is a longer stroke, the paradiddle-diddle is RLRRLL and shorter.
great stuff, your lessons are very helpful!!
These are really great lesons. Sadly, I've never been a rudimentry drummer.
Finally a real John Bonham replacement! Page call this guy for the next reunion tour!
Thanks for the tips!!!! Rock on!
@thunderdrumass
Don Brewer ROCKS! One of my favs for sure.

The very last measure at the end of the video with the diddle on the bass drum was hiiiip!
good work

That's very cool to hear :) wow....THANKS
My dad is an old Be-Bop drummer, played with Chet Baker, etc.
very cool
I do both for you should always try the alternate....
@Who2Are1You
I'm glad to have been of help but who is Bam?
what ever feels best to you and produces the same sound is ok. I would suggest practicing both ways.
@joshnelsonnj
You're welcome and that's cool.
@GrooveDrummin Any tips for making your double stokes sound as powerful and consistent as the singles?
That was sweet
Awesome 👍
Dan, where did you study drums? Not only is your playing inspiring, but your teaching methods are really accessible. Thank you.
@tambodrums8
Yeah, I use that one too but I like to do it this way: LRLLRR accent the first LR
@AldridgeHalenFreak
5A, thanks a lot!
love it :)

practice double strokes on a pillow for a week and then try it on the toms...

any tips or tricks would be kind of you ?
thanks!

Correct! Depends if you're hitting them hard. I would suggest coated Ambassador over coated Diplomat for jazz.

Thanks for getting back to me! I really appreciate it! I've always had trouble breaking down these fills in my head, and it frustrates me! :-\
They are called Paradiddle-diddles.
HOT STUFF
