While learning how to drive in a race setting on a track, I had an instructor tell me "If you lose the spin, both feet in", meaning, if you can't recover control of the vehicle, you should have your foot full on the brake and clutch. I feel like a lot of these loss-of-control incidents wouldn't have resulted in impacts, or such large impacts, if the drivers had followed that advice.
