OH MY GOD THANK YOU. I WAS LITERALLY LIKE "WHAT THE FUCK I DON'T REMEMBER THIS SONG AT ALL FROM MY 2 DISC SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK DVD SET I HAVE FROM MY CHILDHOOD"!
I really wished I had clocked that it was a parody BEFORE I clicked play on the playlist that included this song for my 3rd graders today. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️ While I love the song, I nearly got myself fired from my substitute job today by trusting a playlist made by someone on the internet. 🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️🤦🏼♀️
The real schoolhouse Rock cartoons aired on ABC Saturday mornings from 1973 to 1985. The topics covered included grammar, science, economics, mathematics, history and civics.
Damn that was really good. It was made very clear and concise. And it was totally faithful to the old Schoolhouse Rock shorts. Great job to whoever put this together!
My teacher actually had us watch this in 8th grade. I couldn't tell what original Schoolhouse Rock song it was supposed to be a parody of, but it seems to be based on the noun song now that I listen to it again.
There is nothing blatantly false or misleading about this video. It is an excellent educational piece that takes an objective view of the often forgettable recent history of US foreign policy.
You forgot to mention the presence of "pirates and emperors" in our schools. If an attractive and "normal" person persecutes others, they become well-respected. But if a less attractive and "strange" person does it, they're labeled a "wannabe" and shunned.
You forgot about the cocaine Reagan allowed the contras to sell in the US as long as they promised to use the money to fund the war against communism.
I think you mean the contras. The Sandinistas were / are communist in out look. Also, I'm not entirely sure if coca plants would grow in Nicaragua's climate.
:D Here I was hoping that School House Rock was back in action and actually teaching *real* history. Oh well, maybe some kids will watch it by accident and learn something. :D Very Well Done.
I saw this for the first time in accident roughly 15 years ago when I was in the 5th grade and it absolutely got my mind moving, especially being from a conservative area
Nice job. I love all the School House rock incorporations. The duck- genius. Although the overall message is a bit strong and perhaps too critical the video itself is absolutly amazing.
I like how they have ancient Greeks speaking 16th century English. I guess the marble columns and having them dressed in chitons wasn't enough to convey the antiquity of it.
Alexander was NOT a Roman. He was GREEK (or technically, Macedonian). So the hoplites are one thing they actually got right, although they have him wearing a laurel wreath like a Roman (I suppose to convey the idea of him being an "emperor").
I'm reading the 2005 reprint of Sydney Lens's classic "The Forging of the American Empire" (Haymarket Books/Pluto Press). This cartoon should be a companion piece. Brilliant!
Some people still don't understand an aggressor is an aggressor, does not matter if it's a pirate, an emperor or your favorite president. THEY ARE ALL AGGRESSORS, DO NOT JUSTIFY AGGRESSION.
This is brilliant ... modern day moral and political issues done in the schoolhouse rock tradition and style ... absolutely BRILLIANT. And you know what? Most of it is probably plausible. Its hard to say whether any powerful nation would do any differently, but still, the allegations are definitely plausible. So ... :P to all those who disagree.
Speaking of Guatemala, how cool is it that the US is sending Elliot Abrams, famous for nothing if not his humanitarianism, to Venezuela to oversee the peaceful and democratic transfer of power there?
It's not actual School House Rock, I think that show got cancelled before the events in this song took place. But you're right, these people really put effort into this!
I like how they left out a few words from St. Augustine's passage: "what are great empires without justice if not robber bands on a large scale?" - that "without justice" part kinda makes a difference if you're defining the rule of law particularly in talking about America.
I think this summarizes Mega Man X very well. Especially the last part with the duck. It happens over and over again; “I’m not a Maverick, I’m an anti-Maverick! Why, I’m counter-Maverick! I’m calling the Maverick hunters!” Repliforce, Red Alert, the Rebellion... And the Saddam part is a good summary of Colonel. Was a pal until the conflict. Same with Red, Redips, Epsilon, maybe even the X-Hunters.
"Because I do it with a petty ship, I'm called a robber. Whilst thou, who does the same with a great fleet, art styled 'emperor'!" Sorry...it just seemed to fit.
It is a parody; and it is based excellent summarization on book: Pirates and Emperors, Old and New: International Terrorism in the Real World by Noam Chomsky. Fun Fact: Khomeini was known for the American Hostage Crisis, in turn-USA funded Saddam to defeat him LOL
Kimmy, I have to argue with your point. I strongly approve of this animation. I found it informative, and presented in an amusing way, so as to reach a broader range of viewers.

I agree; you should have tagged it differently. This is not genuine SHR; it merely uses the style. As other people have mentioned, a lot of the things mentioned in this video hadn't even yet happened when SHR stopped production.

I did not know that Alexander of Macedon was a Roman emperor. Or that he was bald. In any case, the story, with its accompanying moral, goes back at least as far as Cicero; it doesn't originate with Augustine.
The patriot act allows the government to invade all personal privacy without a warrant. "Suspecting" connections with "terrorism" is all that is required. They can then make an arrest and hold the person indefinitely without trial. Yes, this applies to all citizens everywhere.
I should point out that this a parody, not an actual School House Rock cartoon-
But it totally _nails_ the style.
OH MY GOD THANK YOU. I WAS LITERALLY LIKE "WHAT THE FUCK I DON'T REMEMBER THIS SONG AT ALL FROM MY 2 DISC SCHOOL HOUSE ROCK DVD SET I HAVE FROM MY CHILDHOOD"!
Damn, I was convinced this was just something they made for a different audience.

Those are actually romans, but they are dressed as greek hoplites. That's not the only muck-up in this video though.
Alexander was NOT a Roman. He was GREEK (or technically, Macedonian). So the hoplites are one thing they actually got right, although they have him wearing a laurel wreath like a Roman (I suppose to convey the idea of him being an "emperor").
Saint Augustine was a Roman. I assume the other poster interpreted the animation as St. A's imaginary mock-up of the events with Roman actors.
I'm glad we reside in countries in which we can critiicize the government and live.
Sadly the real schoolhouse shit is pretty pro-imperialist.
lol this is great, I already knew all of that, but it's really nice how they animated it and gave it a nice "kiddish feel".
