  • HUGE 10.6M 130KG 4 Engine WW1 Bomber ZEPPELIN STAAKEN R.VI | ProWing 2023
    Powered by 4 DLA 116 inline twin cylinder engines with a total weight of 130KG. This model is 1:4 scale. The original Zeppelin Staaken had over 40 metre wingspan.
    Pilot Helmut Müller and his flying pals Günther and Ludwig did a fantastic job in building this awesome machine. This model took 3 years to build.
    Filmed by Dom Mitchell for the 'Essential RC' TH-cam channel at the ProWing Show in Bad Sassendorf, Germany using the Panasonic HC-X2 4K camcorder.

    Truly astonishing. The huge scale of this, coupled with the unusual and challenging choice of marque, with its 'pusher/puller' nacelles is brilliant. I have rarely been so impressed with a giant scale, well maybe you could say 'mega scale' model as this one. My heartfelt congratulations to all involved. Hugely atmospheric and impressive. 🌟👍

    As an A&P mech and aviation buff, WWI aviation history enthusiast and having built RC planes myself - what I see here: is - well: an airplane. Not an RC airplane. It's just simply an airplane, built of same procedures, materials and all. Seemingly period true. Only SLIGHTLY smaller! I also see a hint of love.

    I absolutely love model aviation. I’ve built so many flying and static models over my 60 years. But at what point do you ask yourself, “with all this time, money and dedication, why don’t I just get my pilot license?” Which I did at 59. But still, I do admire the dedication of these model aviators.

    • @thatwontwork9046

      This guy very well may have his license, however, there’s a minuscule chance he’ll ever get to fly one of these old German bombers (if they are even operational, probably not) hence the epic model

    I'm sure, for the German aviators of the Great War, flying the full sized beast took some damn cool nerves. Come to think of it, flying a massive model like that today is only a little less hair raising! Smooth flying is the key.

      Too true! The guys who flew these monsters into combat didn’t make names for themselves like the fighter aces, but they had plenty of courage and great flying skills.

      @@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Or less. An excess will cause the pitch instability hown here in the video. Lower rates and lower speed would be my first tweaks as it will clearly fly much slower than it was.

    • @wearemany73
      @wearemany73 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@CliffHarveyRCPlanes Aircraft with comparatively small elevator control surface need to have full deflection authority for slow manoeuvrability. In the the full sized aircraft like this with no hydraulics the Yoke stiffens up as the air speeds up over the control surfaces, in this instance the servos are just delivering as much torque as and when. This is why it gives a “pitchy” non-scale appearance when flying. If it were my model I wouldn’t use an exponent, rather a simple duel rate for any speed over take off and landing speed. You’ve got to love simplicity and arguing with Cliff. ❤😉👍🐈‍⬛🇬🇧

    I miss the "love the sound" posts with radials. It appears that nose wheel has some serious weight on it. Great to see it has the thrust to easily handle takeoff.
    Always amazed when the "not flying scale" comments come out. This is a massive work of art, whose protection is skill, maintenance and power. A 290lbs model, I bet 40lbs is lead or more. That tail touch on landing, needs a bit more lead, like 10lbs.

My (very) elderly German expat mate has his father's photo album from der Grosse Krieg. It includes several photos of these (and other odd types) at his training airfield somewhere near Pillau im Ostpruessen in 1918. 😉
    Even more interesting, it also holds a photo looking straight down on St. Pauls taken from a Gotha bomber! 😱
