      I started Ryobi when all you could get was the Nicad batteries. I only buy the 18v Ryobi because I can use a drill from 20 years ago with a brand new LION battery. I own at least 20 different Ryobi and I have never had one fail.

      yeah I moved on to Dewalt a few years ago putting my six 15 yr old Ryobi tools in mothballs. But the other day I wanted to use the 5.5 ryobi circular saw and my nicads were all long dead.. so I picked up the new Ryobi hammer drill which included 2 batteries and the good smart charger, and now I have all the old Ryobi tools revived. I did not expect that at all! I think my Dewalt stuff is going to spare duties. Also my Paslode brad nailer is a pita needing fuel cans and ni cd battery, so might consider this Ryobi one. When I worked in construction everyone sneered at Ryobi lol. not me I just used it, happily

      @@planesandbikes7353 You can use your DeWalt batteries on most of the Ryobi tools by using the DM18RL adapter, which you can buy on amazon. The only thing when using this adapter is to make sure you don't completely drain your DeWalt battery, which can damage the battery.

      @@larryandrews4298 All blowers do use a lot of juice. There is a unit I've seen that came bundled with a smaller battery, but they actually have three different 18v blowers (last I counted) and I recommend you step up to a larger battery. It will improve your power output and longevity immensely. I have the workshop blower. That thing is small, but LEGIT. Has three speeds and a touch sensitive trigger. I use it to blow oak leaves out of my lawn and rock beds. Not 100% successful blowing leaves out of the lawn, but blowing embedded oak leaves is no simple task. I also clear the driveway and sidewalks after mowing. It is well paired to the 3A battery, and SOOOOO convenient vs grabbing a corded unit.

    • @brothyr
      @brothyr 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      JD I don't believe it would increase the size. The reason chargers are the size they are is because the inside needs room to naturally vent heat. With a fan, the size goes down tremendously. It's the reason PC power supplies can do so much in such a small size.

    • @theomnipresent1

      The fan would need to be redesigned and made slightly larger; due to the fact that the battery pack blocks the AC input.

Had a dewalt that was great but they changed their batteries. The only bad thing about the vacuum is the adapter holders are crap. P721 work light, we simply call it the sun...P318 23 gauge nailer has been fantastic for me at my job, too bad I spent all that money on the air nailer I will never use again. I have 3 different airstrikes and they all work well. Hard to choose a 5th. Caulking gun, angle grinder, and the multi tool are some others that get a regular work out, and never fail me.

      Boyd Tsosie I can't agree that DeWalt is a superior tool in all cases. I build hot tubs on an assembly line and we have a mixture of DeWalt and Ryobi impacts and saws etc... and they are all worked way harder than designed for believe me. on average we lose one to two DeWalt impacts a month yet I haven't seen one Ryobi 18v one+ burn up yet. before I got my job I never would have believed it but I guarantee when I go buy new tools now Ryobi will be the only choice. and I hate that cause I use to be a huge DeWalt fan boy lol

      oh and to the construction site comment, yea you'll see DeWalt and Milwaukee everywhere not because they are that much better but because construction sites are also filled with overinflated egos and everyone there blindly buys whatever they think their peers would approve of them buying. want to impress me with tools show me a site with nothing but makita tools and metabos. that's quality.

    I like all of my cordless 1+ tools, I use them more than anything else. I have a 10 year old blue saw, paid about $83 for a bag of those RECONDITIONED blue tools(drill, rec.saw, circ. saw-both with blades- light,batteries,charger.... ). I have used that drill and recip saw a lot, it is not the most powerful, my guess is it might compare to a 6 amp saw I have. I have a Milwaukee 15 amp Super Sawz all and naturally there is no comparison in terms of power or comfort. Still, I often use that old Ryobi 1st because of battery convenience and less weight, and only resort to the 15 amp when the rough job(like cutting thick roots out of clay soil) and the need for shock absorption and extra power seems worth the way more weight and dragging ext. cords. Point is, the Ryobis are still going after all these years, and of course originally cost a fraction of the good stuff, even if I had paid new price.
    I recently bought a +1 pole saw, it had all the power I needed. But I was wishing it it had either straight or adjustable head angles and that it telescoped rather than having to add/remove a segment. Other than that it worked great! But I had to return it because it quit oiling the blade, so instead of exchanging, I just got a refund because I had decided I wanted those other features. Got a great Sun Joe on sale, but I find I still miss the battery convenience. So here are some ideas for Ryobi: 1: make that pole saw so that it telescopes and with adjustable head angles, and I will buy another one.
    2: Make all models bi-power, why not? 3: Make some 36V tools that use TWO of the 18V batteries! Unless there is some technical reason why that can't be done, I'd be really interested in buying a more powerful 36V tool to use with my multiple 18V batteries and charger rather than starting over with 40V tools in hopes of having more power. Especially if it was dual power!

I have acquired many more Ryobi tools but I think these 5 (actually 6) are a great starter set. After the 6 above, I would add their top end yard blower (Ryobi P2108A ONE+), then a multitool. Ryobi caught my eye early last year when I learned that TTI manufactures many of their drills. Having been a big fan of Milwaukee drills and knowing that TTI makes many of them, I figured I would give a DYI brand like Ryobi a try. Despite being made for the cheaper home owner type market I must say that so far I am impressed. I started with the Ryobi P261 18V ONE+ 3-Speed 1/2 in Cordless Impact Wrench (my personal favorite) works great and I use it all the time as I am a mechanic and I like the 3 speed switch on the top, works great for lug nuts or running down fasteners on vehicles. This drill has got a surprising amount of torque and its good enough to keep me from getting out my air hose all the time and using a larger drill. Next I purchased the P214 Ryobi ONE+ 18V 1/2 in. HAMMER DRILL- I love the ratcheting metal chuck its very well made and works great for everything from masonry concrete bits to running screws down in wood. Next I got the P421 grinder for the shop works great too just goes through batteries fast, even the 108 size burns up quick. And finally last I have the 18-Volt Lithium-Ion Cordless Pole Saw Model # P4361 for trimming up tree limbs it also works great. All this can be found at Home Depot often for less then you can get them on Amazon and the Bay.

    I have much love for Milwaukee but every once in awhile they make a stinker. The Fuel brad nailer is an excellent example of such a turd as is the 3/8" right angle impact wrench which is so anemic it's lucky if you can get 25 ft-lb's out of it. Most of their stuff is great but there as dogs as well. Something that confuses me is why the Ryobi nailer is so good and the Milwaukee is so bad and they're both made by the same parent company. You would have thought that the Milwaukee engineers would have talked to the Ryobi engineers so that the Milwaukee was at least as good as the Ryobi.

      Really? I was surprised that they bothered because there are so few uses where one truly needs to be away from an AC outlet while hot gluing, unless you're a silly girl scout on a craft camping trip. Glue gun is just not something that really needs to be cordless, for just about any remote use, construction adhesive would work fine. I figure they made it just because they could. Now if you really want to know of a more useful tool in their lineup, a cordless soldering iron would rock, because now there are many cases where there is power equipment without an AC outlet.

  • @practicalguy973
    @practicalguy973 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My Top 5 in order are:
    1) The hot glue gun. Did you know it has a check valve and doesn't drip? The Surebonders don't do that!
    2) Airstrike brad nailer
    3) The 8" pole saw
    4) Brushless jigsaw
    5) P737 Cordless power inflator. I Iike that this one can be kept in the car for long trips and its so small the size of a drill.
    I really like most of what Ryobi is doing but I don't like the E torque brushless drill models! I can deal with it by not using the screw settings, but I beg them to offer a brushless drill with a typical 24 setting clutch and 2 speed gear box. There is no 2 speed gear box in those brushless drills, just a speed controller.

    I still have the oldest of these tools that came in a big carry all....The batteries at that time were not strong enough to run the circular saw...and the drill eventually gave out after 15 years or so. I went through 4 batteries and always used 2 for any job, constantly charging the one not in the tool. Than the new green lithium batteries came out...and all the old tools gained new life.
    I do not remember how long ago the new Lithium ones came out, but I have used the same big battery that came with my impact driver. It still seems to work like new...I got it when it first came out...Is that 10 years ago? The battery is the best part of the system. I think I have used this same battery for one tool or another everyday for as long as I have had it...I never really thought about how old it is, but its pretty darn old...I always thought that if I had two one would sit too long and die...and the darn thing charges in less than an hour.
    Favorites?
    Replaced the bulb in the 20 year old grey flashlight to LED never breaks. Lasts all night.
    Ordinary 1/2 drill gets used the most , old grey one
    Green impact drill driver
    1/2 Green impact for lug nuts and car work. Beats the heck out of the air operated in most cases...
    Green and old grey reciprocating saws...Green for pruning, grey has metal blade in it.
    Also have the 40v trimmer and hedge trimmer, need two of those batteries to do my yard. (2.5 acres)..
