    Those pads are ment to be an interface between a hot surface and a cooler. You might actually see an improvement, if you attached a large aluminum heatsink to the back side of the thermal pads.

      @@grantedgeek You'll want to use the thinnest thermal pads available in the pack, as thermal pads are not the most efficient when it comes to heat transfer. / Thicker pads generally have a lower thermal transfer efficiency.
      Also, the only real improvement, that I would expect to see would be a reduction in performance drop off.

    this…isn’t how thermal pads work? tech guy? 😂

    Instead of doing GB 5 runs, try heavy workloads like exporting 4K video, play high demanding games, use a calibrated thermometer to see what the temperature is after such heavy workloads after a specific time. Like an hour or something. First time without thermal pads, second time with thermal pads. Measure the temperature on and around the area where the chipset is at begin at end of both tests. I’m wondering if they can drop down the temperature after a sustained performance load.

    Yo .... you're supposed to put the thermal pads on the inside .... between the logic board and the chassis

    first those are thermal pads so where are a interface for cooling and second the i pad is not going to get better performance because of the cooling the only thing ia going to keep the temperature and performance stable for a while but after some time is going to not work third use a tec cooler they are better

    The thermal pads are doing basically nothing. As they are acting as thermal masses holding heat and not transferring heat. If you put maybe a heat sink on the thermal pads or maybe a metal sheet or something to transfer the heat away from the cpu. This might help keep the cpu cool and perform better

  • @Mehwhatevr

    why should the thermal cooling pads help here? with the macbooks, they helped because they connected the cpu to a larger heat sink (the laptop chassis). It doesn't seem like these pads should do anything if they're not giving the heat an easier path to a larger heat sink... if the cpu is not already using the ipad chassis as a heat sink, maybe the solution is to open the ipad up and use the "thermal cooling pads" to touch the cpu to the chassis.

    • @emiel333
      @emiel333 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The iPad Pro chassis is actually a metal heat sink for the cpu. So you’re correct. The only thing that can cool down an iPad Pro is a good active cooling device like those razr solutions used for iPhones with MagSafe. But you have to apply a MagSafe sheet under the chassis..

    You don't have a clue how thermal pads or thermal conductivity in general works, do you?
    Here's a crude explanation.
    Heat source | thermal pad/paste (to maximize surface contact) | heat dissipation method passive or active (for a passive heat dissipation you'll need something with good thermal conductivity and and mass like copper or aluminum heatsink which increases surface area which in turn allows passive exchange of thermal energy between ambient temperature and the unit emitting heat. Adding a fan can greatly improve temperatures and the speed of exchange between hot and ambient temperature.)

    You make some fun video’s. I was wondering just for the nerd of it. What about using a little thermal paste and a nice heat sink and do the test again? Not just for speed testing, but see if you really can get some cooling to the IPad Pro? I can’t wait to get my IPad Pro 2021 in a few days! I am using the IPad Pro 2020 due to a little mix up. It handles outside of testing, just great on whatever I throw at it. My brother has the 2018 IPad Pro and it does everything for him he needs. He does photo editing and absolutely loves the IPad Pro. He got me into it because he says such good stuff about it.
    Thanks for the video, Chris!

    Thermal pads are used to transfer heat, not store heat. You need transfer the heat to something else.
