      @@hop101 I typically get ~4-5 hours of usage time, and I work shifts of 12-16 hours periodically. There is no room for “oops they didn’t charge” in some occupations, you buy several sets and bring several charged sets to work.
      The point is that even if you bought 6 sets, they would still be far cheaper than conventional hearing aids.

  • @GeorgeThalassinos
    @GeorgeThalassinos 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +77

    If 6 hours are not long enough, do what we did 30 years ago with the first Nokia mobiles (we were carrying a spare, charged battery). So.. get a spare pair of AirPods. Each pair will charge in its case while you're using the other. Still a cheaper solution than a pair of medical (...) hearing aids.

    • @BridgetCarey
      @BridgetCarey 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

      Well there are over-the-counter hearing aid models today that last 24 hours on a single charge, so if you already use a hearing aid like that, you wouldn't just replace them with AirPods. But it certainly will be a first step for many who haven't even tried one, or a supplemental device for people who already use hearing aids. And keep in mind, this is for mild to moderate hearing loss, if you have severe loss then AirPods are not a solution.

      @@BridgetCarey Fair enough, if price is even lower and performance is adequate there is nothing to discuss! But why would you even bother to replace such a unit with any other?
      I cannot forget my father who was always complaining that he couldn't hear properly even with a German made 1500 Euro unit. He would swap batteries far sooner than needed in his struggle to address the problem. And the unit would emit a high pitch sound. It was a constant mess. If that was the case today I would buy him 1 pair to try and buy a second if he were happy with the quality.
      It always comes down to what keeps you happy and at what cost.

    Good to know that the hearing test is universal between civilian doctors and the VA. Not even a year after I retired from the Air Force, my wife begged me to get a hearing test done. I’ve been using hearing aids for a few years now. Seeing this makes me happy.

      I got my hearing aids from the VA also. The model I have retails for over $6,000, has bluetooth with Siri integration. I listen to music and videos with them all the time. Incidentally, the VA is the largest provider because so many people come out of the military ( I was Navy) with hearing loss and tinnitus. Costco is the #2 provider! I truly hope these Air Pods will convince people to get the help they need without the stigma of hearing aids. I personally couldn't care less what they look like, but many people do.

    I've been wearing hearing aids since I was in my mid 30s. I have the Airpods Pro 2 and I am excited about the new features. People with hearing loss should get proper hearing aids after a proper hearing test. Of largest importance is the fact that Airpods "occlude" or block your natural hearing. Most of us have natural hearing that gets "boosted" in the right frequencies by hearing aids. I am excited about the new features because I am also a musician. I can now listen to music with the Airpods compensating for my lost frequencies. Conventional hearing aids and headphones don't mix well. Rock on!

    Thank you for making this video! You did a deep dive into a very important topic. I’m 54 and have moderately severe hearing loss. I had to start using hearing aids last year and have struggled with each one I’ve tried. They all struggle with ambient sound and isolating and amplifying voices so you can understand what someone is saying to you. I paid $5000+ for a pair of Phonak hearing aids and they aren’t great. I understand AirPods aren’t intended to address my type of hearing loss, but I am eager to try them out. Just having a conversation at a restaurant and hearing people in noisy environments is currently very frustrating. If the AirPods can help in certain situations for me, it would be a huge help.

    • @Spongegoose
      @Spongegoose 3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      You might want to consider either going to a different provider or seeing what your current provider can do. Airpods will not be serviceable for a severe hearing loss unfortunately, as they really aren't meant to aid in anything more than mild to moderate aids. Phonak has been doing this for a long time, so I'd be surprised if your provider or someone more skilled can't take care of this for you.
      Unfortunately restaurants and background are really difficult. We're just now seeing some evolutionary changes to background noise for hearing aids, but that's on newer hardware.

      The most important thing in my opinion is a good service and individual adjustment of the hearing aids from a professional. I tested various devices and they wanted to sell me some really expensive ones. I changed the acoustician and got a much deeper and better consultation and service than before. I went with the basic ones which are covered in costs by my insurance and they really improve my daily life.

    This really is amazing! Even before this software update, you could already do this, but you had to rely on 3rd party hearing test app (then upload the hearing test result to iOS to adjust the hearing aid setting) and the setting was quite complex to do, I hope this update has made it much easier considering it's all Apple now. Hearing aids are so expensive here in Australia, even entry level ones are at least $1-1.5K, and going up to more than $3K easily, Apple getting into this market is a great news for consumers!

    As an acoustics expert. The volume of the music doesn't damage your hearing (within reason) it's the odd harmonics and amplifier clipping that are the real culprits. Not to mention jack hammers, drills, saws, rock crushers, automotive/motorcycle loud exhaust... etc are extremely bad ...So play your piano, guitar, violin all day. Drums are not in this category... Loud natural even order distortion is pretty much safe (within reason of course)

    Hi, I have been using my Airpods Pro as hearing aids for at least 1 year and a half...This feature is not new, by itself. I entered a proven record of my hearing capability into the App, so that my iphone can set the proper adjustments corresponding to my specific hearling loss. (I used Mimi app to record my hearing loss and get the audiogram). However it seems that some features will be new to me, e.g. conversation boost, or the media adjustment...I am really impatient to say the least to try it as I still have some difficulties to hear properly even with airpods pro2, in particular I find the sound a bit too bass nad not very clear when listening to media (like youtube). I don't know if and in what extent my current airpods are adjusting the sounds now, coming from the media. I am very pleased to have the transparency mode which really helps me listen to the noise that my ear can not hear anymore. thanks for your video. Cheerz from Paris

    I have mild hearing loss, and last year I bought a pair of AirPods Pro 2 with the intention of using them as hearing aids. I scanned my test results from the doctor's office, just like Bridget did. I'm not sure what additional features Apple will offer that I can't already access, aside from possibly quicker access to the menus and my audiogram. I've also used them at several concerts to protect my ears. My guess is that you can already achieve most, if not all, of what Apple is promising, but it requires more effort to make it work.

    I suffer from medium hearing loss and have 6000k Phonak hearing aids. I’ve tried the new seeting on iOS 18.1 beta and seriously, this is a gamechanger! It will kick the entiry industry in the a**! The only downside is battery life and that people will look at you if you‘re wearing your Pods all the time. The natural sound you get is stunning and Apple did really really well! My Phonak aids might adapt to changes of the environment a little quicker but that‘s nothing Apple can‘t fix. They blow my „cheap“ aids for 1500k I had before out of the water! Thank you, well done Apple!

    This was a great thorough video. I’m in my late 40’s and have been wearing hearing aids for 45 years. I am very tempted to go buy a pair of AirPods to try them out and see how they do with my moderate to severe hearing loss. These could be a potential backup to my hearing aids though, as mentioned in the video, the battery life is not enough. But, for the price of one of my hearing aids I can buy five AirPods… something to think about!

    Have bought the Airpod pro 2 Last year to improve my Hearing loss in the Higher frequency areas. It was Not Helling at all. Finally I have tested and bought a Hearing auf die 3000€ and I am Happy. Even Mord my Airpod pros sound terrible now. I am looking forward to test the new feature. It would be great because I could stream music from my Apple Watch without having my iPhone with me. Thank you for this great review 💪💪💪

      Yes, only the AirPods Pro 2 model in the US and Canada. And you need iOS 18 or iPadOS 18 to take the test when the software update lands.

    What's important to note here is that the type of fit is not ideal for all hearing a losses. A closed fit might be beneficial if you also have low and mid frequency hearing loss, in addition to high frequency. If your loss is purely high frequency based, you will have to rely on the aids to also deliver sound in the frequency ranges that you might have no aidable loss in, which is obviously not a 1:1 experience. If you have good low and mid frequencies, you would likely be better off with an open or vented fit.
    Not to mention, these are limited to mild to moderate losses, and for a lot of high frequency loss uses that just isn't going to cut it. I've yet to test these myself but do not consider this a replacement for actual aids or a full hearing test. You should get tested with an audiologist. There's a lot of value in the additional tests run by an audiologist or HIS, and this can lead to medical referrals for something more serious which is invaluable.
    With that said, I think this will be really awesome for a lot of people who don't know they have hearing loss or just need something while they wait. And the hearing protection is awesome as that is already expensive to purchase if you want to protect your hearing but wanna go to loud events.

    Thanks, I have severe hearing loss from military service as a Gunner's Mate on a river boat in the Vietnam War. I use Phonak hearing aids from the VA but I recently tried the AirPods Pro Max over -the-ear headphones and they are great. Super enhanced my connection to the Mac and iPhone and the TV. Especially they noise cancelling feature. I hope improvements you mention come to play with these devices. Maybe a food for thought for a follow-up vid on these devices. Even if they do no have the hearing aid update they are still great for the hearing impaired.

    *edit…I just did the hearing test and my hearing is pretty great I guess. So that’s good.

    Gooooo apple!!! I’ve been using the live listen mode since 2017 as a regular hearing amplifier. It’s been the biggest blessing since my insurance doesn’t cover and I can’t afford to purchase regular hearing aids. This upgrade is a game changer! I wanted to wait for Black Friday sales, but I’m in need of an upgrade, so I’m going to purchase and review this week. I’m so excited!

    Well, regarding your 9:00 comment, hear problems have become much more common in the past few years with increased use of earphones. While Apple is working hard to differentiate themselves with their health focus; the growing hearing epidemic is, in part, because of the popularity of their products.

    So people can just buy 2 of these and be set for 12 hours, or 4 of these and wear it during sleep too, I'm not sure if its safe or healthy to wear during sleep, i am assuming its unsafe, but if its possible it can save people from some accidents where they are not able to get alert on time, maybe apple would try to increase its battery to 8 hours with newer versions

    I’m haven’t had a hearing test since I was in school and the nurse tested us. Kids get better healthcare in a lot of ways but they are young and super healthy. I’ve pretty much always had problems understanding people in loud environments like a bar. It sounds like these will help. I like studying foreign languages and obviously a little hearing loss might not matter much for your native language but it gets a lot more challenging when you’re trying to understand a foreign language.
    You don’t go over this in the video but I’ll have to get some third party rubber hooks. No apple earbuds have ever stayed in my ears without help ever. One size does not fit all. Nor three sizes.

    I’m hard of hearing, but I was told if I use hearing aids it will impact my good ear over my bad ear with hearing loss.
    I tend to use over -ear headphones with a seal over my ears, than in-ear headphones such as the AirPods Pro’s, I might explore the AirPods Pro since now it’s a requirement feature but the only problem if it is approved in the US then it needs to be addressed in the UK and Europe.
