  • Take a walk with us though the streets of Chinatown in Bangkok.
    Our purpose for this day trip was to trade gold in one of the many gold shops in Chinatown. Candy has a couple of pieces, which one was broke. So we wanted to trade in gold to get a new gold necklace.
    We ended up getting a bigger necklace and also a rabbit pendant to go with the chain (the value and how much extra we paid is all listed in the video).
    The cool thing was the lady at the gold shop could tell we had been there before by the necklace we were trading. It had come from that shop when we were there in 2015.
    After our buying and trading gold experience, which was very pleasant and painless, we took a walk down to the Siam Old Town mall. And we share some food and drink experiences with you as well as the interesting walk through all of the street food vendors and shops in Chinatown.
    We hope you enjoyed our video. If so, please give it a thumbs up and make sure you're subscribed.

    It is interesting seeing that they have so many malls that are packed and doing well. Here in the States, malls are empty and
    going out of business. I also can't get over how many power lines I have seen throughout your videos there.

      Yeah, we noticed that, too! Here, all malls are thriving and the malls like Central World, Siam Paragon, Terminal 21, EmQuartier, etc...all of those are super huge, super nice, and always packed!

      In a hot country like Thailand, malls will always do well. Free aircon and all. Plus, you can do almost eveything there - drop your kids at a playground section and go to a hair salon or get a botox/your teeth cleaned etc. There are commercial bank branches in every mall. At the Central of my home province, you can renew your ID, driving license, passport and even get a blood test (the province's biggest state hospital as an "outlet" there).

      Thank you, yes we love the language and are becoming more fluent (reading and writing helps a lot, too!)

    I see you are fluent in Thai being married to a Thai. My biggest regret is not learning my wife's language during our 40 years marriage.

      It's never too late! And to be honest, I have not been studying as much lately so I'm getting back on it (reading and writing Thai as well). TH-cam has been a big help. Channels like Learn Thai with Pod, I get Thais, and several others.

    Due gold shops buy gold from foreigners? Coming back to Thailand in April and would like to sell my gold.

      Yes, they will authenticate by their standards and give fair price. We ended up trading our gold (plus some baht) to get something we really wanted. Very nice people and cool place to walk around.

    Can you tell us how to visit the elephant sanctuary near Bangkok. Also what hotel do you recommend in Bangkok?

    • @candyandjason
      @candyandjason  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We can recommend Centre Point Hotel in Chidlom (we have been here for about 10 days) and it's really nice. We did not visit any elephant sanctuaries but we do know of one in Chiang Mai that truly takes good care of the elephants (no riding or abusing them)

    Do they sell gold bullion in Bangkok too? If yes what is the price per ounce?

    • @candyandjason
      @candyandjason  7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I believe all gold is market price there so that will depend on the time you go.

    • @stevenhull5025

      The gold price would obviously be the international spot price on the day of transaction.

      @@stevenhull5025 no they wouldn’t sell for spot only.

      We got whatever the going rate was. We ended up paying more for what we wanted in exchange as shown in the video
