The Buick Skylark is a passenger car formerly produced by Buick. The model was made in six production runs, during 46 years, over which the car's design varied dramatically due to changing technology, tastes, and new standards implemented over the years. It was named for the species of bird called skylark.
The Skylark name first appeared on a limited production luxury convertible using the Buick Roadmaster's chassis for two years, then was reintroduced in 1961 as a higher luxury content alternative to the entry-level Buick Special on which the Skylark was based upon. It was then positioned as Buick's luxury performance model when the Buick GSX was offered. As GM began downsizing during the late 1970's, the Skylark became the entry-level model when the Special nameplate was used as a trim package designation, then in the 1980s was offered as a front-wheel-drive vehicle where it was both a coupe and sedan for three different generations.
In the 1966 model year, the pillared four-door sedan was replaced by a four-door hardtop. The 1966 two-door Skylark was available with the optional 340 ci "Wildcat 375", engine which produced 260 hp (194 kW) and 365 lb⋅ft (495 N⋅m) torque with a 4-barrel Carter carb.
    1967 Buick Skylark coupe
The four-door sedan would rejoin the lineup for the 1967 model year, making a total of five Skylark body styles. The 225 cu. in. V6 was standard on the two-door sedan, the 300-cubic-inch V8 on all other models, but the four-door hardtop sedan, which came with a 340-cubic-inch-displacement V8 engine using a Rochester 2-barrel carburetor and producing 220 hp (160 kW) at 4400 rpm.[8]
In 1967 Skylarks included the Federally-mandated safety equipment as other U.S. market passenger cars, including a dual-circuit hydraulic brake system, energy-absorbing steering column and wheel, 4-way hazard flashers, shoulder belt mounting points for outboard front passengers, softer interior surfaces, and recessed controls on the instrument panel.
The Gran Sport became the Gran Sport 400 to reflect its engine. A Gran Sport 340 was added, using the 340-cubic-inch V8, available only as a two-door hardtop coupe.
Inspired in no small part by the sales success of the 1964 Pontiac Tempest, LeMans, and GTO, a Gran Sport option became available in mid 1965, offered as a coupe, hardtop or convertible.[14] The Gran Sport featured Buick's 401-cubic-inch-V8 with a Carter 4-barrel carburetor that produced 325 hp (242 kW) at 4400 rpm,[14] listed as 400-cubic-inch in sales literature to elude a General Motors limit of 400 cubic in intermediate-sized cars. Unique Gran Sport badging, a heavy-duty radiator, and dual exhaust were also added.

Hey Boss, need to get this out. Most importantly, whatta say thank U for the channel. What I forget (like many others) is that U do reviews & build out of box. U promote having fun by building to suit individuals own taste. U point out possible issues w/ a positive intent. Been chomping @ the bit for this car! Again, many thanx 👍👍

      Thanks a lot!
I also build fast and simple, not for shows or 'perfection', but instead, I build how the average hobby modeler who doesn't make kits their life builds in a two day rainy weekend after seeing a kit in a store and thinking "I'll try one of those!"
I want average folks out to just have a good time see what they can get out of the box with about 6-8 hours of total work over two days.

Chris: thanks for reviewing the "trees" before your assembly. I was angry at first when I discovered no engine support base on my parts tree that held the firewall, et al,..., until I remembered your advice from a previous build: "this is MODEL building ...!". So I cut off a scrap piece of plastic from another tree and scratch-made another engine support of my own for this build ! Thanks for keeping me focused, Big Guy !!

Back in the sixties they raced cars like this but they put duels on the right side and an undersized wheel on left side. Then they put slicks on the rear. With speed up in the turns the left tire was always a foot in the air ! 😂. Great build . 🇨🇦

Very cool build. The nail head Buick came in several sizes but the only one that had real performance was the 401 with the factory 2×4 carb it made 425 hp.

    • @CalvinSharpie-jd9cd
      @CalvinSharpie-jd9cd 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

The 401 was never offered with a 2x4 setup, the 425 version from the Riviera Gran Sport and the big cars had that option. It does however find itself on a lot of 401s. I am always in search of one myself for my 65 Gran Sport.

And of course the friendly reminder to build for you which is always inspiring to say the least. Oh and thanks for taking the time to show us the paints you're using. Appreciate it.

I built this kit when it first was released about 1973. Thought it was very cool as there was two short tracks within about 20 miles from my house that I went to often! Both paved tracks and, yes, the super stockers had really big tires back in the day. One of the tracks,Spanaway speedway, was replaced by a housing development. But the other , South Sound Speedway, is still around and post video every week on TH-cam!

I live a few miles away from an old southern dirt track, and they really do use tires like this for some classes. Same with duct tape numbers! These kits are great in that you can do anything you want to them. New, old, clean, dirty, wild crazy colors or flames. Turn it into a demolition derby car or figure 8 racer, or maybe the Mad Max route. Or just use them to experiment with different techniques with weathering dents and rust. They are a great break from the pretty shelf queens lol

I've built 2 of the original kits and 1 re-make . The re-makes are better than the originals. The new kits have better tires , glass...and decals. They aren't great kits ..but are a lot of fun. The Super Stockers are fun kits too. . I wish they made a Mustang and Camero. Oh, I found some music wire ( like they used to use for RC ) is great for metal axels if you need another size . Thanks for sharing Chris .

Just some engines that were in most Buick's 215, 360, 430, and 465 some had 455. In the 1965 Skylark was a 225-cid V-6 that pumped out a sedate 155 horses. Somewhere light green some light blue some chevy orange because GMC got in trouble for not having mixed motors in their cars

Regarding engine colors; being modified stock cars what you say is true about the engine may having come from any other vehicle that would mate up. Plus, being a race car at some point that engine was pulled and rebuilt and what a perfect time to repaint it your team colors, right? When I restored a '69 VW bus I painted the engine bay and tin shrouding to match the exterior of the vehicle and redid the block in the OG semi-gloss black. Unless you're building a specific auto like one of Petty's cars or wanting to make a 'factory fresh' example there is no limit to your color palette.

Want to know one of the reasons you have trouble finding those old cars you love? Take a look at this class of circle track cars. Tri-5 chevys, Malibu/Chevelles and many more were pulled from junk yards and following the rules (wink, wink) raced. This leaves with mixed feelings. Feel bad for the car getting hammered and beaten to death or smile knowing another hellraiser went out doing what they were built for. Great channel Chris, just had a rant moment, and I'm done.

As far as the ENGINE ( motors are electric ... internal Combustion ENGINE ) is concerned ... you can never believe the box art , the plastic inside doesn’t remotely resemble the box art
