1969 Pontiac GTO The Judge 1/24 Scale Model Kit Build How To Assemble Paint REVELL NEW KIT PREVIEW 85-4530 14530 rmx4530 4530 854530
The Pontiac GTO is a front-engine, rear-drive, two-door, four- or five-passenger automobile manufactured and marketed by the Pontiac division of General Motors over four generations from 1963 until 1974 in the United States - with a fifth generation by GM's Australian subsidiary, Holden, for the 2004 through 2006 model years.
The first generation of the GTO is credited with popularizing the muscle car market segment in the 1960s.[2][3] The Pontiac GTO is considered by some to have started the trend with all four domestic automakers offering a variety of competing models.[4][5]
For the 1964 and 1965 model years, the GTO was an optional package on the intermediate-sized Pontiac Lemans. The 1964 GTO vehicle identification number (VIN) started with 22, while the 1965 GTO VIN started with 237. The GTO became a separate model from 1966 to 1971.
The GTO model was revived from 2004 to 2006 model years as a captive import for Pontiac, a left-hand drive version of the Holden Monaro, itself a coupé variant of the Holden Commodore.
The 1969 model eliminated the front door vent windows, had a slight grille and taillight revision, moved the ignition key from the dashboard to the steering column (which locked the steering wheel when the key was removed, a federal requirement installed one year ahead of schedule), and the gauge face was changed from steel blue to black. In addition, the rear quarter-panel mounted side marker lamps changed from a red lens shaped like the Pontiac "arrowhead" emblem to one shaped like the broad GTO badge. Front outboard headrests were made standard equipment on all cars built for 1969.
The previous economy engine and standard 350 hp 400 cu in (6.6 L) V8 engine remained, while the 360 hp (270 kW) "400 H.O." was upgraded to the "400 Ram Air" (though now colloquially referred to as the "Ram Air III", Pontiac never used that designation), rated at 366 hp (273 kW) at 5,100 rpm. The top option was the Ram Air IV rated at 370 hp (375 PS; 276 kW) at 5,500 rpm and 445 lb⋅ft (603 N⋅m) at 3,900 rpm of torque,[17] which featured special header-like high-flow exhaust manifolds, high-flow cylinder heads, a specific high-rise aluminum intake manifold, larger Rochester Quadrajet 4-barrel carburetor, high-lift/long-duration camshaft. Unlike the highest rpm Chevy big-block and Hemi engines, the Ram Air IV utilized hydraulic lifters.
By this time, the gross power ratings of both Ram Air engines were highly suspect, bearing less relationship to developed power and more to an internal GM policy limiting all cars except the Corvette to no more than one advertised horsepower per 10 lb (4.5 kg) of curb weight. The higher-revving Ram Air IV's advertised power peak was actually listed at 5,000 rpm-100 rpm lower than the less-powerful Ram Air 400.
A new model called "The Judge" was introduced. The name came from a comedy routine, "Here Come de Judge", used repeatedly on the Rowan & Martin's Laugh-In TV show. The Judge routine, made popular by comedian Flip Wilson, was borrowed from the act of long-time burlesque entertainer Dewey "Pigmeat" Markham. Advertisements used slogans like "All rise for the Judge" and "The Judge can be bought". As originally conceived, the Judge was to be a low-cost GTO, stripped of features to make it competitive with the Plymouth Road Runner. The package was US$332[18] more expensive than a standard GTO, and included the Ram Air 400 engine, Rally II wheels without trim rings, Hurst shifter (with a unique T-shaped handle), wider tires, various decals, and a rear spoiler. Pontiac claimed that the spoiler had some functional effect at higher speeds, producing a small but measurable downforce, but it was of little value at legal speeds. The Judge was initially offered only in Carousel Red, but midway into the model year, other colors became available.
The GTO was surpassed in sales both by the Chevrolet Chevelle SS396 and the Plymouth Road Runner, but 72,287 were sold during the 1969 model year, with 6,833 of them having the Judge package.

My favorite GTO is the 1964. I was fresh out of High School, woking at a TEXACO, pumping gas and washing windshields. A friend's older brother bought a GTO and they came by and gave me a RIDE ! ! 1964 GTO.

I was 7 years old, out in my front yard playing with my Hotwheels cars, when I heard a rumbling noise coming up the street. I turned to see my next door neighbor in a brand new '69 Judge. I was too young to understand exactly what he had but I knew I liked it...a lot! I blame him for my love of late 60's, early 70's muscle. His beautiful car mysteriously burned 6 months later. I'm sure it had nothing to do with insurance, though. 😉

This was my favorite GTO ever since 1969. The year it came out. I was in 5th grade at the time, I cut a Pontiac GTO Judge ad out of a magazine at the school library and kept it taped to my closet door. Then 7 years later in 1976 when I got my license I looked high and low, checked news papers, check the Wheels and Deals magazine's just to get my hands on a 69 Judge,
No Dice. If they were any good people were hanging on to what they had, or they were trashed, wrecked, or in the junkyard.
As a matter of fact Chris, the thumbnail of your video looks a hell of a lot like that ad and had a guy standing next to the car wearing a blue windbreaker.

Never realized that GTO "Judge" kit had in parts to make the standard version - always liked this particular model but I have never owned it. I'm glad to see the Pro Street Mark VII back; don't think that's been around since the early 1990s and I'd love it if it contains parts to make a stock version of the car. I recall an issue of "Scale Auto" back in 1990 saying you could use the chassis from the stock Thunderbird from the same era for that purpose. The Torino Cobra is one I'd love to attempt - my last Torino Cobra was the old 1969 MPC model which only lasted a week in my collection, and I've never owned a Shelby Cobra kit but I've always admired them.

Another neato Build, *Chris* ! I'm with you regarding the Pontiac & Buick A bodies ; just gorgeous !
When I first built that kit - c.1984 - I was pleasantly surprised at the separate arm rests, brake drum detail, and the correct air cleaner.
Those "smokers' windows" are for the (incorrect) 1968 iteration. There are so many other subtle differences between a 1968 and a 1969, that the 'Model 55 A/C' don't make it alone. At least we have that gap delightfully filled by the *Round2* 1968 GTO.
Since you enquired to you followers; I'd say that the 1968 & 1970 - 1972 GTO are my favourite. Still waiting for someone to create a 1970 with the Ram Air V with the *VOE* exhaust as an option ( Ram Air V and VOE weren't available together, as the former doesn't create enough vacuum for the VOE due to its radical cam profile ).
    Additionally, I'm a fan of the Colonnades ( 1973 - 1977 , with the GTO being a 1973 only ).
I'm with @danielvoller2254 regarding the *1958* *Fords*, esp. the Ranchero ! Likewise, I'd be keen on a 1969 Chevelle 300 Deluxe Coupe with the SS 396 option ; a 1968 L79 Chevelle 300 Coupe would be quite nice as well.

Great job again Chris. Love your reviews. If Revell is listening, I hope tgey would come out with a 71 Cuda...it's a no brainer same goes for a 69 Dodge Charger 500, the one that is missing from that great series.

You bring up a good point here. Who owns the rights to the 1/25 (stock) 1970 GTO tooling? Is it MPC? Whoever it is, it needs to be re-released.

They modified the body mold many years ago, turning it into a modified circle track race car. That version can still be found cheap (relatively). Maybe, with encouragement, Round 2 Models will give the '70 GTO the same treatment they've given other old kits by tooling up a new body to combine with existing mold parts to create essentially a new old kit. They did a great job with the '64 Cutlass/442 kits, '68 Coronet, and so on. We need to resurrect the 1970 GTO!

@Revell USA Mr Chris the Revell guy, here's some suggestions of a few Revell/Monogram kits I'd like to come back... The '78 "Midnight Z" Z/28 Camaro, the 1/12 Ferrari F40, 1/8 Camaro IROC-Z, the 1/8 Harley-Davidson bikes, #6399 Chevy Impala SS, and the 1/16 Swamp Monster/Giant Tracks Chevy Squarebody monster truck duo. I know I'm forgetting some but these were the ones that came out off the top of my head!

Hey Revell Chris, tell them to knock the dust off those late 80's Grand Prix molds and get those kits back on the shelves!

80's Crown Victoria and Caprice police cars and modern Explorer Police Interceptor Police SUV ! Police Vehicles are vastly under represented,, yet we all see plenty of them everyday.
