The Chevrolet Chevelle is a mid-sized automobile that was produced by Chevrolet in three generations for the 1964 through 1977 model years. Part of the General Motors (GM) A-body platform, the Chevelle was one of Chevrolet's most successful nameplates. Body styles included coupes, sedans, convertibles, and station wagons. The "Super Sport" versions were produced through the 1973 model year and Lagunas from 1973 through to 1976.[1]
After a four-year absence, the El Camino was reintroduced as part of the new Chevelle lineup in 1964.
The G-body Monte Carlo, introduced in 1970, also used a platform that was based heavily on the Chevelle platform, although it was lengthened ahead of the firewall.
From 1964 through 1969, GM of Canada sold a modified version of the Chevelle that included a Pontiac-style grille and a LeMans instrument panel, marketed as the Beaumont.
The Malibu was the top-of-the-line model through 1972 and completely replaced the Chevelle nameplate starting with the redesigned and downsized 1978 model year.
In 1970, sheet metal revisions gave the bodies a more coke bottle styling, and interiors were also redesigned. The 1970 Chevelle and the 1970 Buick Skylark share the same roofline. The 1970 Chevelle came in Sport Coupe, Sport Sedan, convertible, four-door sedan, a couple of wagons, and coupé utility (the El Camino) body styles. Only three of these (Malibu sport coupe, Malibu convertible, and El Camino pickup) were available with a choice of one of two SS options; RPO Z25 with the SS 396 (402 cu in (6.6 L)) engine and RPO Z15 with the new 454 cu in (7.4 L) engine. The base model was now simply called Chevelle in lieu of the former base 300 Deluxe, and was only available as a Sport Coupe or four-door sedan. In Canada, the base series retained its 300 Deluxe name, with appropriate badging on each front fender just behind the front wheel well. The 300 Deluxe 2-door sedan was canceled and replaced by the base Chevelle Sport Coupe, a 2-door pillarless hardtop. The hardtop, convertible, and sedan received the upgraded sheet metal but the station wagons and El Camino retained the previous year's sheet metal panels (which went on for the next 2 model years). Station wagons were the entry-level Nomad, the Chevelle-level Greenbrier, the Malibu-level Concours, and an upscale Concours Estate. New options included power door locks and a stalk-mounted wiper control. Production was expanded to the GM Arlington Assembly plant in Arlington, Texas (where the Chevelle was assembled with its corporate siblings in this case the Oldsmobile Cutlass).
Great build - love the John Wick movies, except when the dog died.
Famous last words..."It was just a f***ing dog!!"
Easiest way to get that green strip in the grille is shoot some paint in the cap of the color you're using for the body and apply it carefully with an eyeliner brush, wiping off any excess with a Q-tip.
Outstanding build and tutorial as always Chris! Happy holidays to you Brother! Rock on!
I like that green and the overall finish. I understand the U.S. racing colors in Europe was green with white stripes. That’s another hook to the “real-world” for John Wick
That is one beautiful car 🚘! Love your videos! Always inspirational!
Nice build.......molded in white is extra nice.
Great build of an old tired tool. I really do wish they would make a new tool 70 to 72 Chevelle Series kit. Also I am surprised they didn't do the Mustang first.
good day. Thank you for all the videos you upload of each car model you build, it is a great encouragement for me to continue building models. When I was younger I did it, I stopped doing it 20 years ago and I'm building model cars again. After watching your videos, I was encouraged again. thanks again
Glad you like them!
I'm glad they've seemingly remedied the front fascia's fitment! Perchance to dream, but I wish the exhaust and rear suspension were all separate components. Yes, the kit is a product of its time and this tooling is ancient, but that rear end is misaligned and remedying it would go much quicker if you didn't have to perform surgery on both the exhaust pipes AND the rear suspension!
Very nice looking classic car this Chevy Chevelle SS John Wick I like this car so far it's a kit I want to build. ❤😊🎉 Happy New Year in advance.
Very sharp looking automobile 😊❤👍
Great video Chris keep em coming I'll keep watching
BEAUTY.
Speechless...
Great Christmas gift to US, your viewers
Merry Christmas to you ! !
Thank you very much!
Great job. I actually had a 396 '70. Will build this copper with black stripes to match mine.
Great build thanks
I built one of the previous versions of this kit about 24 years ago and I found the process of fitting the full headlight and grille assembly a bit tricky but it looked really good in the end. The logos on the body also stood out - the only decals for this kit were optional black or white stripes and license plates, but it had some optional wheels which weren't very attractive and I took it off display when a taillight went missing. Happy to see it back, especially with that new comprehensive decal sheet and those lovely new tires.
Yay, best color I say! Although I do like my matching pearl white interior more than the usual black. Thanks for showing all you get in latest boxing. Good holidays
Sweet! If someone wanted a more detailed chassis you cold use the one from the Revell 68 or 69 Chevelle.
👍👍. Glad to have this kit back out. Looks like it has some common pieces of the '69. I had the "Red Alert" version. Many thanx Chris. Happy Holidays.
Merry Christmas to you and yours Chris! Thank you for all you do on here. God bless!
Very nice kit, good job!
My late friend and mentor did a SS396 out of a prev. version of that kit and used 2 other AMT kits for certains parts and the Craigar from an AMT '66 Nova.
I also did one of the prev. version of that kit and it seems to be the same. 'cept with the addition of the Tork rims.
It’s funny, looking back, ‘68-‘72 had some of the greatest muscle cars ever! Merry Christmas Chris! 😎🇨🇦
man that's a awsome looking kit i just baught john wick keanu reeves figure and the dog so to get this kit it will be perfect for 3D printed carrictor and dog ..awsome definitely on my list hope we get it in Ireland soon
I tried building AMT's 70 1/2 Camaro kit. That was my first and last AMT kit, lol. The engine fit together fine but that was about it, nothing else fit right. Some pieces were so bad, custom cutting and gluing couldn't even help it. I had to completely leave a couple pieces off and still barely got it together. It came with nice looking pre-coated chrome bumpers and the sprue attachments were on the top of the bumpers, rather than just putting them on the bottom, out of sight, forcing everyone to have 2 big sections cut out and needing to be touched up, which is nearly impossible to match. So many problems that I _never_ have with other brands. This kit looks like it went together much nicer, at least.
Looks awesome as aways Chris. I got my John Wick SS on pre ordered. I can't wait for it to come in.
Great build. Merry Christmas, Chris!
Merry Christmas from Iowa
"Not just a CAR, not just a DOG!"
SA-WEET!!!!!!! Happy Winter Solstice!
I would definitely like to build one for each show! Dazed and confused had a lot of cool cars! Reacher and John Wick are awesome! Great build! Great video! Thanks for the color tip!
I believe that you can pretty much build every car in Dazed and Confused easily lol.
Great kit and review. I have watched the John Wick movies, always liked the cars. Hopefully they will come out with the Mustang from the first movie soon. Merry Christmas to you and the fans of this channel. Have a great day!
Awesome build. Did mine this week, just in semi-gloss Hunter Green. AMT obviously did some work on the tooling, because other versions of this Chevelle (such as the Jack Reacher red Chevelle, and Wooderson's Melba Toast) needed some fitment work to make everything fit together. Not so with this kit, which was a pleasant surprise. Also, that music at around 29:09? Keep using that. Very nice. 🙂
Nice I built the Jack Reacher chevelle. The front end was tricky fitting the grill and headlight piece in
Great job! I think that may be one of my favorites that you've done so far
Nice job with this one!!
My first car was a 1970 4-door Malibu that I bought for $200
Great looking build Chris, and a merry Christmas to you and a Happy New Year 🧑🎄🎉👍👍
Awesome build as always Chris. Love the green. This is definitely on my 2024 list to do. I have a great hobby shop not far from me and it's run by a husband and wife couple that used to work for a Chevy dealer. The wife runs it and has all the model cars arranged by make and model. They even carry that Duplicolor Green. Hope you and your family have a great holiday 😊
Sweet looking build! Merry Christmas to you and yours! Thanks for your reviews they are fun and inspirational. Thanks 🎄🎅🏻🎄
Thank you for all of your video's. Merry Christmas to you.
Excellence build and review Chris! Perfect color choices! Merry Christmas to you and yours!!
Very nice build. It looks like the kit goes together very nicely. Excellent job with matching the green paint. Those BF Goodwrich tires look really nice. They need to put those in a parts pack. Thanks for sharing.
Nice build Chris. I'm going to have to pick one up a I agree those are nice looking wheels and tires
Awesome Builds Chris Thank you Sir Keep em Comin eh Merry Christmas
Awesome
Marry Christmas and another beautiful build an paint job Cris an thanks for the video an time you invest for us
You do a great job on these kits.😊
Merry Christmas!!!
Beautiful job on the build and I love the style, in fact I love it so much that I've owned 2 70 chevelle's and a 70 elcamino plus 4 models but,,, I don't know what amt did to their molds but the side's of that car are not as clear as they were on the monogram kits I've got, the light seems to get lost on the body line's where the high crown over the wheel openings are supposed to a be smooth elipse, that kit just doesn't carry the right reflection down the side's
Nice build. The body needs to be retooled, the sinks in the body sides make it look like it smacked a guardrail, not unrealistic for the movie car, I suppose.
Merry CHRIStmas 🤶 🌲🎅 and thanks for the videos, they made a lot of inspirations for all us modellers.
Great wishes from Denmark ☃️ 🇩🇰
Nice job cool kit they have a 69 mustang in green in JW 1 got trashed.
That Mustang is actually a slate gray in color. I'm replicating it using the Revell '69 Boss 302 kit and some parts from other kits.
You could maked the "Dazed and confused" Chevelle with that kit.
He already has made Melba Toast Chevelle. Check his previous videos for the review and build of the car.
Nice build need to get one 😅....... Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 🎊😅
Looks good, Chris.
Very nice build Chris love the deep green perfect color Happy Holidays to you and your family thanks for the reviews
Looks like a fun kit. I really wish there were some 71-72 conversion parts for this. It would be nice to build Independence and Liberty from Vice Grip Garage.
Be nice Round2 had the molds for the 71 chevelle, I’ve seen an original one on eBay going for $100 bucks. I wouldn’t be able to justify building it for that price lol.
Oh, this is good!
Another Great build Chris! Love watching all your videos! Merry Christmas!
I love your videos Chris. Thank you! Merry Christmas to you and your family.
I think the actual body color was Fathom Green metallic.... Same as the '69 Z/28 I used to own... Oh, and Merry Christmas!... 🙂👍
There's a Dupli-Color spray available called Forest Green Pearl metallic that VERY closely resembles the actual color and you can find it at most auto parts stores. Hope this helps and Merry Christmas/Happy New Year to you and yours!
nice
nice build merry xmas
Merry christmas Chris keep up for good work. I can't help that round t w o keeps on sending you crap to build
Can you do a vid on where you get ur models from and what you do with them ❤ ur vid
Can't find this around me yet. Speaking of movie cars, I need a Wayne's World AMC Pacer.
Only issue I have with this is that the dual stripes are not made so they can be slid off together. Which I believe the Revell version is.
a strong car in the first movie. obviously not stock. came out of that garage like a bat out of hell ..
Any information on if there will be a John Wick Mustang ?
In the movie his car had a 72 rear bumper
Do you ever use an airbrush? Or just the rattle spray cans & hand painting?
The Pledge clear looks a bit hit and miss on this one. Maybe due to the green being quite flat. Nice job just the same.
What glue did you use
Great looking kit. Hopefully amt will release
the John Wick mustang as well?
Great build, Merry Christmas
Where do you get your pens that you do the dash
I believe I saw a couple at my local Hobby Lobby.
That is a very nice model, but no way is that John Wick's car. There's not a single scratch or dent on it.
Merry Christmas.
You must be a fireman ; hosing down everything from glue , primers to paint... But gotta admit that the endresult looks very nice :D
Why woukd you title this vid as SS396 when it is a SS454?
Because it's a 396, you can even see the emblems in the movie and the company that built the cars for the movie says it's a 396.
Looks like its just a cash grab. This kit has been repopped way too much. Time for a proper tool to be done.
And this is the chevelle from John Wick 1 and 2 right? I thought it was black?
Dark green. Wooderson drove a black one named Melba Toast in Dazed And Confused 😊
Absolute garbage kit. Stay away. Flash everyplace. Intake won't fit right. The worst I have ever tried to build.
What a poor model in terms of details. Copared to other brands, it is something to not waste your time.
You said build a 396?? 1970 ss chevelle came with a 454
396 and 454 were both options in the SS for 1970.
@hpiguy true but John Wick chevelle was a SS 454..look it up
LOL, it's a 396 car.
www.hagerty.com/media/entertainment/cars-of-john-wick-the-boogeyman-and-american-muscle/#:~:text=There%2C%20Wick%20takes%20delivery%20of,final%20assault%20on%20the%20Russians.
@hpiguy John Wick is obviously a muscle car connoisseur of the highest order since the next John Wick’s car driven was a gorgeous and equally rare and expensive Chevelle SS 454 LS6.
John Wicks picks up the 1970 Chevelle SS 454 LS6 from chop-shop owner Aurelio when his Mustang is stolen. Despite John Wick’s car screen time very limited, it does feature when John drives home from Aurelio’s and then once more when he drives to the Continental Hotel.
And that came.from sports car digest
Wish they would come out with the revell monogram kit then the amt
Every 70 amt chevelle I bought was really warped in the front
Unless I missed it, surprised nothing on the Mustang John Wick had.
HEY-DAR 👊😎👍: Great Review as always, Fellow Cheddar-head 😊 except for a much better decal sheet, extra set of Torque Thrusts Rims and different pad-print on the tires this kit is EXACTLY like the one that came out in 2021that's light green on the box. Turned out Nice, Good Job 😄 You win a cookie in the form of a LIKE. LOL. Watch You Later, (MODEL CAR)🎭(MAN CAVE)
