    I've watched several of your videos before, but as a new builder I truly appreciate your repeated saying to "build it as you want". It's easy to get consumed with trying to build it like other people do but hearing this in every video helps. I love your content!

    Those headers are called 180-degree headers and I hated them the 1 year we had them on my dirt car! The car sounded like an angry vacuum cleaner LOL.......very unique exhaust sound for sure! Awesome build, I wish they sold those wheels and tires on their own!

    Hi Chris, I love how you do the majority of your painting with rattle cans. Can you do a segment where you show your spray paint collection? I think most of your subs would love to see it as well.
    Thanks!

    • @orbitalair2103
      @orbitalair2103 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I thought 1oz acrylic was expensive, but at $8-12 per rattle can these days, I can easily justify an airbrush setup.

      Rustoleum costs under $4 can and lasts for a dozen models.

    mpc's "super stocker series" was first released in early 70's. there were, I believe, four cars in the series, all built on the same variable wheelbase chassis, the pontiac, a chevelle, a mustang & a barracuda. that particular header set-up kept the exhaust opening on the right side of the body (pretty common on a car that only turned left) & not hanging under the frame. very nice build-up, BTW. love your stuff & would like to see more ICM Model T's. thanx

    On real race cars, there would be no floor on the passenger side. That’s why the sheet metal box covers the passenger side area. Helps keep the heat down, and makes it easier to work on things under the car without the floor in the way. Love this build!

    When MPC originally released these their was a 1970 or 71 Mustang super stocker also, it used that same chasis. The Mustang was purple and white, A&W sponser , #99 Dick Trickle. That chasis had very good detail, the 180 degree headers were very cool. 3 of the tires were smooth and one was grooved.

    Likely thinking about 180 headers was to keep from tearing up exhaust on rough tracks? For the adventurous, I do know for a time some rules allowed a driver "doghouse" without full floor or firewalland rear bulkhead firewall behind seat and sheet meetal "tonneau around driver....

    Try strips of cloth medical tape for header wraps. It has a shiny texture that decently approximates nylon straps, so it also makes for good seatbelts, window nets, tow straps and any numbers of uses. It takes color really well too.
    I find using different materials has a huge effect on making your models look even better.

    I’m just so intrigued by that header/exhaust set up. I’d love to know the why’s and how’s to the benefits of setting it up like that. One of your best builds IMO.

    Hey Chris how do you deal with the spru bits left after you cut them off? I find myself always having to paint the chrome parts simply because there are always big ugly scars if i dont.

      Molotow pen solved that problem for me. If you cut it straight and there's no crater behind a touch of molotow chrome will cover it so well you literally won't be able to tell where it was cut off.

    Good kit from the past! Yeah - was a 6 kit series, though Trickle Mustang and Jeg's Camaro bodies were a tad sketchy. Forgot about M. Carlo & 'Cuda.

    I might leave the body off. With all that detail inside, make it look like it is being worked on for the track and they took the body off to gain access. Great build and I really like the color choices.

      Yup, if they issue more then next one will be dented and a bit track worn, maybe some donuts on those nerf bars.

    Hi Chris, wonderful build. Do you recommend a "glosscoat" on the outside body before applying the decals? (i.e., prevent silvering)

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, not unless it's a flat paint job and even then I rarely have an issue.
      These decals are laid on the paint as is, with no clear over it.

    I would hate to have a valve cover gasket leak...........
    Is there a fit issue somewhere in the kit for that rear tire to stick out like that more than the other?

    • @hpiguy
      @hpiguy  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Exhaust going thru the hole in the body pushes the body over to the side a bit.
      I could have spent some time and cut the opening for the pipes a bit bigger but I didn't. Needed to wrap up the video and get it done. :)

  • @ronandanne1
    @ronandanne1 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I wonder if it would get really hot inside the car with those exhaust pipes being routed through the passenger area? I dunno. The model is fantastic. Great job!

    Avid kitbashers may think about pursuing a project I never got "round to = take Petty Kit Car kit + Hemi + rear quick change and plentious parts from this MPC series.... Something for adventurous souls???Nice thing about Pontiac is that technically never was a "big block" - as all from 50's 287 c.i.d. to 455 had same bore spacing & external block dimensions. Their (almost) 350 was ahead of its GM cousins in many regards...
